I was nearly run down in the intersection of 14th st and Mission st by this company's truck. I was going to get a hold of them via their website or email, however they have neither and this seems like this is the only way. I've unfortunately had to file a hit and run report w SFPD, I was walking in the crosswalk, (west on 14th st) during my turn and he made a left turn into the intersection (coming from the east) before slamming on his breaks, he tapped me with the truck and I was barely able to jump out of the way in time to avoid serious injury or fatality! I have a very small bruise on my hand bc was instinctively covering myself as I saw the truck coming at me, but if I wasn't able to move and move quickly, it absolutely would have ended badly. Also, I see someone else posted on yelp abt a month ago abt a reckless driver with this company! What are the chances!?!?!? Yikes!! While this company may be great a paving, who cares, seems like they need to train their drivers to safely navigate and follow traffic laws so someone doesn't get hurt or lose their life unnecessarily. This man saw he hit me and that I could have been seriously injured as he barely slammed his breaks in time and I was able to jump out of the way in time to avoid getting hit harder. His reaction was to shrug his shoulders and keep driving, completely disregarding the seriousness of the situation and demonstrating a lack of empathy for human life. read more

My house remodel/ addition was done but the one piece of the puzzle was still missing which was my drive way. It is an encroachment so I had to deal with cal trans, I called a good number of asphalt contractors either they only do commercial or if ever they do residential I get a push back because it's a small job even tho on their website say "no job is small for us to do". It was stressful time as this is the last thing we need to get done and do a walk through with county inspector fortunately one day I got a call from Chris and I couldn't honestly remember his company as I just filled up forms online or just left voicemails on different companies, he gave me a bid the following day then to find out my permit from caltrans expired so I had to get extension and pay another fee etc. the conditions/requirements of cal trans was too much as they want a 7day notice etc. told Chris my concerns even tho I have not secured or committed with him and he said he can give them a call the next day even tho he said that; I still reached out to cal trans so atleast I can maybe help expedite the process because I know Chris is probably busy with other clients. As soon my extension permit came out I secured a day and signed the bid. In short Bay Area paving really stood on what they advertised and Chris was really patient with me, he communicated well email, txt and on the phone. Pricing was very reasonable and no surprises, regards the work so far so good the workers were quick, very detailed oriented and they clean up after themselves. The pavement was done today so I couldn't comment on it but I was there the whole time when they were working as I needed to take pictures requested by caltrans for submission. I'm no asphalt contractor but his workers explained it to me step by step and by the look of it I can say they did a great job! So if you are needing an asphalt contractor residential or commercial definitely hit up Bay Area paving! I wish they do stamp concrete because definitely will be needing that down the road for my backyard hopefully I can find someone detailed like this company! read more

At first the job planned and drawn out did not work out that way after monies were paid. I was told things could be done and promised, but after the start I was told those things could not be done. It made it easier for their crew. Installation of a drainage system was substandard. I am reporting this from a job that was done several year ago. Now the asphalt is cracking in many places as I am told the ground was not properly prepared prior to doing the asphalt. I would not use them again. read more

I met with a number of companies for driveway work, and Chris from Bay Area Paving was the only one familiar enough with the Redwood City permitting rules to correct my understanding of what was allowed. From there, he quoted me a price and stuck to it despite some complications that increased cost. Some neighbors and I needed paving work done on a bit of common roadway. Cars were being damaged by bottoming out, and the area by our mailboxes was a muddy mess. After we agreed on what we wanted done, the repair crew came one morning and by that evening we had a smooth new roadway, and getting the mail is no longer a chore. We had an amazing experience from start to finish with Chris and his crew at Bay Area Paving. We were able to schedule him for an initial visit very quickly, after which Chris gave us a very detailed estimate for the job within a day or so. Upon signing a contract with him, he worked with our permit office to ensure that everything we wanted to do was permissible. We quickly received approval from the permit office to move forward, and then Chris' team was immediately hard at work on the job. All of his staff were very courteous and completed the entire job in 5 days! They removed a giant section of ivy and dirt by our driveway, installed new wood retaining walls, and added a large section of new asphalt where the ivy used to be. The entire time, they made sure that all underground utility lines and drains were protected. We are so happy that we now have ample extra parking space and a nice paved area for our kids to play bball! Couldn't have been happier with the outcome! Thank you Chris and team! Quite possibly the worst experience ever!!! We paid for a very particular scope of work and did not receive what was on the contract or discussed. After one week the driveway had already CRACKED AND WARPED due to regular usage (1 compact car and 1 SUV). The repair and follow-up were handled terribly. Upon finishing the repair of the driveway, a workman walked to my door and scolded me for driving my car onto the driveway. I had my infant son on my hip and asked that he finish and leave. The OWNER finally returned a call and proceeded to yell at me for having driven my car onto the driveway! I have never been treated so terribly in my life! I am writing this review only to avoid this happening to someone else. read more

This company is as good as it gets for concrete and asphalt paving! I own an apartment building that shares a driveway with another apartment building. The driveway is cracked and broken and needs repair. Along with that, we must replace part of the sidewalk and the driveway approach. This is a complicated project and to add to the complications, it is on a street that is a state highway so we must deal with Caltrans. After speaking with nearly 100 concrete contractors, meeting with 35 of them (only those who were experienced, qualified and willing to tackle such a complex job), I only received 12 bids. Many of the contractors were either too expensive, the bids too difficult to decipher, not interested or withdrew their bids after thinking about it. Chris Quinn was qualified, experienced and willing to take on this project. He and his workers are great to work with, reliable, reasonable, and do a fantastic job. He worked well with the Caltrans inspector and got him to approve rebar in our sidewalk (which is usually not allowed) and even got him to push our permit through in less than 10 days instead of the usual 4 - 6 weeks. I'm extremely pleased with the outcome. As for cracks in concrete, Chris warned me that concrete always cracks; however, if you are foolish and don't allow it to cure for the recommended number of days and drive your vehicle on it before it is completely cured, you will weaken it and surely have cracks and other problems with it. With proper curing and rebar, the concrete will remain strong for many, many years even with the cracking. I strongly recommend Bay Area Paving Company and Chris Quinn. read more

Chris and his crew at Bay Area Paving were the right choice for our residential asphalt driveway replacement. The finished product looks fabulous and the surface is very solid and smooth! The whole experience with Bay Area Paving went very well. Chris was responsive to all my questions and created a quote quickly. His price was comparable with the others. A slight modification to the contract for a minor addition to add a second under-pavement downspout drain pipe was handled quickly and easily. He was available to work on the project sooner than the other companies, and we quickly settled on a July start date. His team started pretty much on time (they started a few hours late the first day due to overlap with another nearby project but Chris notified me of that), removed the old asphalt driveway, cleaned, graded, and laid down the final surface all within the 3 days quoted. Watching the Bobcat move so deftly in tight spaces was like watching a ballet dancer! It was also fascinating seeing how quickly his crew and equipment worked on the last day as cooling asphalt waited for no one. We envisioned a like-for-like driveway replacement with straight edges and lots of right angles but the curved edging they recommended looked much more pleasing. Chris was very accessible and responsive during the entire project mainly over email. I worked from home during the project so I could monitor the progress and be available if questions came up. A few questions did come up that required slight rework in edging placement and adjustments to the slope of the grading. They accommodated these changes quickly and professionally. Because the job site was in residential Palo Alto near downtown, it was challenging to provide enough temporary street parking permits for the work trucks. However, Chris told me ahead of time how many trucks - and permits - were required during the 3-day project: 2 for the first and second days, and 5 for the third day. While I felt some anxiety before such a large project, in the end everything went smoothly. I would certainly use Bay Area Paving for any similar projects in the future. read more

We had our driveway redone with 2 inches of asphalt overlay. Part of the driveway, which measures about 4000 sq. feet, had to be dug out. Pressure treated header board was placed around the periphery. The final result was perfect !!! Chris gave us the estimate and explained in detail what should be done and the reasons for his recommendation. His workmen were meticulous and courteous. The job was completed on time. I cannot recommend this company's services even though they did a passable job on my small project. Their customer service was unacceptable. They did not have the courtesy to inform me that they were going to be delayed to start my project. After a couple of hours of waiting, I reached out to them. Eventually, I got a response "They will be there". After 5 1/2 hours I had to leave. When they did show up, they began demolition without a set of plans to show. They assumed the scope of work. Needless to say, they had to rip out what they did when I returned. It was in the afternoon of the next day that I received an email explaining what had transpired and why they did not come. At the same time, they stated that in three days they would come back to finish the job, if they passed base inspection. They passed. Within hours of pouring, I received my final bill by email. I replied that only after the permit card was signed off would I pay the bill. As it turned out the inspector wanted more things done, which they did. I was then emailed and asked to take my permit card to the city to get it signed. OK work is not enough in a service business! read more

The customer service was great. Not only did they provide me with a quote in a timely manner, but they were flexible in scheduling the work around our tenant's business needs.
