We used precision paving for some hard scape improvements, including building a pickleball court as well as rebuilding some old stairs. Project proceeded smoothly, there were some delays towards the end due to additional work added, and supplies took some time to arrive. This is understandable if you have been through any major projects as you will know that timelines never go exactly as you expected. In a big project like this, the requirements could change in the middle, and Precision Paving was willing to adapt to our new requirements. I hired Precision Paving to do my backyard remodeling. A few good things to mention about this business. Ricardo offers reasonable price, good communication with English and accomodating on small requests coming together with the large project. His father is also friendly and accomodating and help supervise the progress of the projects. This place is getting busier, which means that they are popular and competitive. On the other hand, it's important to list the scope of the project more clearly in contract or in messages, work with Ricardo more closely along the project to double check the details are as you wanted. Most of the time, if you find what you don't like early, Ricardo will accomodate it well. But if it's not specified or reminded, things might be overlooked and different crew members might come and work with their own schedule/priority/understanding. Overall, I see some of the minor caveats happen in most places when a business grew from one project at a time to multiple team members with concurrent projects. With Ricardo still being reasonable and trying to keep his business in good reputation, I would still recommend this place. I will start to see how their work in my backyard lasts now. read more

These guys are doing a job for my across-the-street neighbor right now. I can see as the crew works hard and diligently on his property this week. I leave a review here for Precision Paving today because I wanted to share what I witnessed on my camera system today. A person from the crew that I assume may be the owner or foreman, saw that today's strong winds were blowing my empty garbage, compost and recycling bins all over the darn place. He decided, out of the kindness of his heart, to walk over and lay them all down, lined up neatly onto my lawn so they wouldn't end up a mile down the street in someone's pool. He didn't have to do this. He didn't know me. He's *just* a good human being. I thanked him when I saw what he had done and I truly appreciate it. It's a small thing and something he had zero obligation to even think about, but he showed he has great character. And that character likely is reflected in this company's work. Ricardo and his team at Precision Paving worked on transforming my backyard from a barren field of dead grass to a beautiful Japanese-style garden. The work included adding a concrete patio topped with ceramic tile, a second, smaller flagstone patio with walkway, a large dry creek, two redwood fences, planting over 20 trees and shrubs, an irrigation system, and low voltage lighting. And keep in mind this is only one of the miscommunication examples that just happened today, there are so many other ones I could rant about. But I'll stop it here. They are more suitable if you have a lot of time, don't care about project delays, and/or usually WFH. ======== 1st update below So the wildest part is, after they saw my bad review, they privately messaged me asking if they could pay me to delete it. They promised everything would be done by Saturday (except the path, which they said would be Monday). I was thinking, "Okay, great," because I planned to spend Sunday cleaning the yard and finally moving all this outdoor furniture that's been piled up inside my house thanks to their bad timeline. Of course, Saturday evening rolls around, and what's actually done? Basically nothing. The grass isn't finished, the pavers aren't done, the lights aren't even connected. It's 5 PM, and I've heard nothing from them. Complete silence. No one proactively told me it was delayed, why it was delayed, or what the new timeline was. I had to be the one to reach out and ask what was going on. Only then did they tell me the new completion date was Monday. Well, guess what? Today is Monday. And now they're saying it'll be Tuesday. For God's sake, I haven't changed a single requirement this entire week, and they're still trying to find ways to blame someone else. I'm just so exhausted by this. Oh, and the story with the pathway is just ridiculous. You want to know why it's delayed? I went to the exact store the contractor recommended and bought the materials two full weeks in advance. It turns out, he didn't realize that store is closed on weekends, so he couldn't even pick up the materials on Saturday to do the work. And the best part? He only realized this because I was the one who reminded him. You just have to laugh. I literally had to take a day off work to go to his specified store, and he doesn't even know their hours? Seriously, who is actually managing this project? As someone who also has a normal, demanding job (牛马), this is just too much stress. I hired Precision Paving to put a 30' x 10' concrete slab in my backyard. It involved removing a tree and moving some sprinklers around to accommodate the slab. There was a minor miscommunication regarding the tree removal. We had agreed up front that the stump would be ground, but they were planning to leave the stump after removing the tree. I pointed this out and Precision Paving was very responsive and they were able to get a stump grinder out very quickly, although I did pay a small extra cost. Other than this one issue, the work they did was great--the slab turned out very well: it is quite flat and the dimensions and placement are spot on what I specified. We communicated mostly via text and I was very happy with their responsiveness. I would definitely recommend Precision Paving for a future concrete job. read more

I hired this company to build my driveway, but it was not a good experience. Their in-house demo team seemed OK, but when it came to the actual paver installation, they outsourced the work to other workers-- maybe just random contractors. The workmanship was unprofessional, and many important steps were skipped. Most of the time, I would only see one or two workers working for 1-2 hours a day. When I followed up with messages, they would verbally promise to fix issues, but nothing was actually resolved. The project was supposed to take two weeks, but it ended up taking almost five. They never cleaned up dust or debris, and several of my neighbors complained to me about it. During construction, they made a huge mess around my property. We recently contracted Precision Paving for a backyard and driveway remodeling project. We are overall happy with the result, and are delighted to share our experience. We have a swimming pool, a wood deck and a lawn in the backyard. They are all kind of old. We want to have a new patio, new pool copping and synthetic turf. We also want a new driveway. We sent out a request for quote on Yelp. Precision Paving responded. Ricardo, who is the owner, came look at the property. He also showed us his work recently finished nearby. That turns out to be very helpful. The quote came the next day and after a couple rounds of negotiation we decided to go ahead. The best part we like about his proposal is that it is straight forward in simple terms that gave us great certainty. The contract is to install paver for driveway, patio, pool sides, and to put artificial turf for the lawn. It is an all-inclusive contract. The work started the next week on Oct 4th and finished Nov 4th. It is a little longer than planned but not bad for project of this size - we anticipated delay. We are generally happy with how the work is done. During the demolition phase debris are removed and hauled away quickly. Pavers are laid very nicely even though there are some touch shapes in our yard that require nontrivial cutting of the paver. The pool copping and turf are all done reasonably well, though not as super as the paver. There were unplanned changes, glitches and moments of disagreements, but all were resolved in a friendly manner. There is one more thing that worth mentioning. Regular sand was initially used to fill the joint of pavers in the backyard. But we find out that there is a lot of lose sand around especially after rain. This is not good for a backyard. It is a mistake to agree to use regular sand in the first place. We raised the issue, and Precision paving agreed to send in a crew to fix the issue with us just paying for the polymeric sand. We recently hired Ricardo for putting pavers in our backyard and sideyard. We got his number from a neighborhood friend who also did pavers in his backyard. Of course we got many quotes and Ricardo's quote was one of the lowest which was an important factor with today's high inflation. Work wise also Ricardo and his team has been very accommodating to our needs. Our house is located very near to the foot hills and therefore there is different in the ground level from one side to another. Needless to say that there was a lot of digging required (much more than 8" that is the recommended minimum for doing patio pavers). Another is putting at least 4" of base rock for a stable base for the pavers. This is where most contractors would try to cut corners but not Ricardo or his team. As part of the laying down pavers, Ricardo and his team also put the necessary drainage work. This was included in his overall cost of per-sqft pavers installation. Of course I bore the cost of material but still his team continuously accomodated my little adjustments here and there. Ricardo's team also was very resourceful and saved all my existing mulch and put it over the loose soil in a different section to help prevent any future weed.
