He didn't have the skill, knowledge or education in order to treat the rare type of cancer I suffer from. Though he did say he had some experience, he wanted to defer every aspect of my treatment to my other Oncologist at another office. Though he gives out a professional profile on Epic Care's website that Oncology is personal to him due to family members dealing with the disease. You would never know that fact by his bedside manner. I would never treat a family member with cancer the way he treats his patients. He has a nervous, boyishly shy demeanor, (doesn't look you in the eye while talking)and will promise you things in his office fulfilling your requests. However, becomes aggressive and underhandedly arrogant at other times when you're not in person. He's fairly new to the Epic Care Antioch staff, and its my opinion that he is the worse asset for that team. He's insensitive, unsympathetic and nothing you'd expect from a caring Oncologist. He doesn't TREAT his patients, he passively observes and allows other clinicians to do all the work. He will not support your input and allow you to be a partner in your health care decisions. It is very difficult to begin with one Oncologist but having to switch because things didn't work out. He never contacted me to hear what my concerns were or how he could improve my experience with him. Now, since I'm still a patient at Epic Care he stares me up and down as if this is a street fight. I hold my head up knowing I made the right decision to let him go. And that I have gained clinicians that are real Oncologists that truly care about my well being, and show it. Cancer is hard enough to go through, do not add this inadequate doctor to your "dream team" of healers. Heed my warning and avoid Dr. Tong while battling cancer. He won't last very long at Epic Care if more patients honestly see him for who he really is and boldly speak up. Shame on him for taking advantage of people while they are suffering and in their most vulnerable stage.

Dr. Tong is professional, compassionate, always there when we needed him. There wasn't a single part of her journey he wasn't involved in. If he was taking a quick trip or short vacation he always made sure we knew exactly what to do and who to contact, who would be on call, signs and side effects to be aware of, etc. He never once left us with unanswered questions of expected outcomes or how to deal with them. Every transfusion, scan, chemo, radiation, every little detail he was there and I mean right there for us. I can never adequately explain how dedicated he was throughout her 14 month journey. He never gave us false hope, honored every single one of my mother's wishes, and never questioned her ability to fight her disease to the best of her ability. I saw Dr. Diane Kwan in June 2025 for a suspected hernia above my belly button. She diagnosed an…read moreumbilical hernia and confirmed it with an ultrasound, which clearly identified the hernia in the exact area where I had pain and a visible bulge. She performed surgery in October 2025, but I received no post-op communication from Dr. Kwan. I had to proactively call with concerns when the bulge remained. At my follow-up, the issue was still present, and a CT scan later confirmed the hernia had not been repaired. Dr. Kwan then admitted she had repaired a different hernia during surgery and missed the one that was originally diagnosed and causing my symptoms. I was never informed before or after surgery that the correct hernia had not been addressed or that a new/different one was present. I only learned this weeks later after raising concerns myself. This experience was extremely concerning and disappointing, both in terms of the surgical error, lack of communication, and now the need for repeat surgery.

He didn't explain what the tests were, obviously they are to test the hearing but a little explanation goes a long way. One test specifically when he placed ear plugs and headphones he explained what the instructions were after his ears were covered. How does he think he will hear when his hearing is poor and he had the headphones which are basically canceling the noise. Explanations were poor and he seemed to get frustrated when my dad didn't understand right away. English is not my dad's primary language so I was there to help with translating but he preferred to attempt to speak Spanish when some of the words the doctor was trying to say were hard to understood in Spanish. As a medical professional having a translating service is highly required. It wasn't until half way through the appointment he asked if I can translate. Comments like "he has a big head" "I don't know if he can hear me" are not professional. I have always gone to other medical appointment and have never had to experience this with my dad. As a medical professional myself, he was rude and had zero patience. His tone changed once he started talking prices, but I do not recommend him. Explaining what the tests are beforehand and saying what he is doing should be the bare minimum. His explanations were not the most clear and he was obviously frustrated when my dad said the wrong thing or when he would hear more of the high pitched noises than he played on the computer. The test is deciphering what he hears, right? So why was the doctor visibly frustrated when my dad was pressing the button on what he was hearing. I'm more than happy to give my feedback to their patient experience if the office would like.

It's been a battle for almost 5 years when I first met Dr. Lo at which point he had to give me the news that no one wants to hear, "You have Colon Cancer Stage 3" Dr Lo explained to me I had about a 30 % chance of surviving. I was in shock, denial and I was mad at the World including Dr Lo for relaying the bad news based on something he had nothing to do with. I am not the easiest guy to deal with, in fact I'm anything but easy and at that point in 2018 I didn't like or trust any Dr. as close to 50 years earlier at 4 years old I almost died at Kaiser in Sacramento Ca. As they misdiagnosed appendicitis for Ammonia. I survived that event but I still remember it and it scarred me for life about going to a Dr. for anything medical until Dr Lo came into my life 50 years later. I admit it was the best Christmas any 4 year old has ever had due to having the most Loving, caring and giving parents any human could ever have! This review is a long time overdue. Dr. Lo care for my mother two years ago as she was being…read moretreated for terminal lung cancer. He took the time to listen to us and we felt his sincerity at wanting to help us get the best care possible. He was upfront and honest with us about her lung cancer which was incurable and even coordinated a referral to UCSF for a second opinion/clinical trial option. Unfortunately, she wasn't a trial candidate and she was treated locally under Dr. Lo's care. At each point in the journey, he was open and honest about the options and whether they were in keeping with her goals (prioritizing quality of life over quantity). She was able to live a year with good quality of life and we were grateful for every moment we had with her. We are grateful for his compassionate care and especially to his team of infusion nurses who took such wonderful care of our mom!
