Bay Area self storage has failed to keep there facility at standard care. We are extremely concerned for future renters. My Husband came to the manager Chris 6 months ago regarding rodent activity within my storage unit. Feces & mice/rat Droppings have been found once again after inspecting it a couple days ago. When we first noticed this issue we took it upon ourselves to clean it up and further inspect the unit for live activity, in which nothing else was found at that time. I returned a couple months later to check on my unit and found my storage unit was infested with the rat/mice droppings. Indicating the Bay Area self storage took no action, failing to notify tenants & negligent by failing to resolve the problem, that was discuss months prior. The storage hallways reeked from the smell of rat/mice urine being it unbearable & unsafe to be in that kind of environment. Our items/furniture that were placed in this storage have been destroyed by feces, rat droppings & chewed up personal belongings. We had everything in that storage, our lifelong memories that can never be replaced and things we hoped to pass down to our children. It hurts to know we have to start all over again! Items that we had were two full bedrooms sets, nightstands & 2 big dressers, kitchen table with 8 chairs, Two box springs and multiple home goods items. The most sentimental item was my wedding dress. I couldn't help but cry and be very disappointed to find the item, that I cherished the most destroyed and taken away from me. Our wish of passing this down to our daughter is now robbed. Those items can never be replaced and Bay Area self storage should be held responsible for negligence to take the proper steps by notify the resident in the area. We recently found out that another tenant that's renting a locker couple of rows back (who overheard our complaints while in the office) went and inspected his unit, to find out, he also has dropping throughout his unit! This is just ridiculous and truly hope no one else has to experience this stress. Also: You would expect the company as a customer service gesture to compensate you and assist you with moving the furniture and cleaning the locker unit right? WRONG! YOU BETTER come in with your own cleaning supplies, face mask, air freshener, gloves, napkins ect... because the best they can do is come over with a small broom... Jesus the janitor was kind enough to bring us a couple of garbage bags and help my husband move 3 boxes while he was up in a ladder trying to find out if anything was salvageable. I do want to thank Shirley for giving my husband and I some water while working hard, & checking in on us. It is very hard to earn 5 stars in the storage business. Seriously. Most storage places are out to get your money and keep it. This place is totally different. The manager, Chris, is on site and really does a great job. We've used BASS twice in the past 3 years for different reasons but both move/downsizing related. Their rates have been well within the market rate and their specials have often been even better than Public Storage. In regards to the facility, they have ground level only units which is great. Easy access to everything, safely lit, great security features, and well sized units. Chris has been nothing but amazing. He takes great pride in the establishment. It is VERY very clean. He is meticulous on how it looks, if doors are open, if a lock seems off (yes, he notices if a lock is wrong and will call the client!) and so on. You know your things are safe here. In addition, if you happen to forget a payment... like, ahem, I did once... you get a very kind phone call saying, "Hi there! This is Bay Area Self Storage over on Stone and Curtner. We notices that your payment for this month wasn't credited. I just wanted to make sure that we didn't miss it." Look at that! TOTALLY not yelling at ME!!! The customer service is amazing. Oh, and btw, you get to use a huge truck within the first 30 days of renting with them. The truck is also surprisingly in good condition despite being used often. It is free except for gas. I did see a complaint about rodents. Sadly, and I know that isn't going to calm everyone, this is a known risk of storing your items. We had them in our own metal storage shed at our home years ago. They got in to plastic bins despite our best efforts. So, keep that in mind when storing your items. Even the BEST storage place in the world will still try to get in your unit if there is something worth finding. Overall, if we need BASS again, we'll be back! Thank you guys! read more

LOVE this place. Even though I do not have anything stored there (as of yet), I called for a quote about storing a vehicle indoors. The quote Chris gave me was a little bit more than what I could afford, and informed me that they generally just do certain size rooms, not necessarily for cars. He quickly told me of a place locally I could store my car. WHAT COMPANY DOES THIS ANYMORE!?!?!?!? Well, it's a shame that other companies DON'T do this... because even though I am not going to store my car there, guess where I'm going to be storing my other household items?!?!?! Exactly! Earlier part of last year we moved from Morgan Hill to San Jose but the move was going to be temporary while my husband and I decided on where we wanted to relocate to semi-permanently. I looked at several different places before deciding on this place. Not to mention at the time they were offering a month free if I paid for a month up front or something like that, I know I received a month free. Anyhow, Chris is whom helped me. He was awesome and thorough with the rules and regulations and answered all of my questions intelligently and was very professional anytime I had any contact with him. Even in choosing what size storage I needed he gave me helpful hints as to how I could pack things in that would allow me to use optimal space. I chose a drive up storage as that was just easier for my husband and I. About 3 months into using the storage I noticed that something was eating up my kids' boogie boards. Did see any feces but something definitely was eating away at them. So I immediately contacted Chris whom walked over to the storage with me and sure enough as soon as we rolled the door up what do we find? A small mouse, dead. So he asked to take one of my keys and that he would lay out a couple of traps and check my storage periodically, for the next few months. It had been raining off and on and I am sure the mice were looking for shelter and were tearing pieces of the boogie board a part to use to make their nests. I knew for a fact I hadn't stored any food in there or spices for that matter as I was aware that mice would be a problem if I did, and Chris reminds you of that when you sign on. A few months later Chris gave me back my key as he did not see anymore signs of "visitors" and neither did I on the few occasions I came to retrieve or put something in my storage. Another indicator they were gone, was that the rest of the boogie boards seemed to go unscathed..lol! We finally found a home and didn't need our storage unit anymore. We would definitely rent from Bay Area Self Storage again if we needed to. We were well taken care of and felt as if they did the best the could whenever I needed something. Thanks guys! read more

I went in to set up automatic payments and for some reason the lady charged me two months in advance. She had me filling out so much paperwork for the auto payments, I didn't notice the doubled sum until I went in later to give my 10 day notice (their requirement for moving out). I talked to the clerk on staff about it and asked for a refund for the days that I won't be using. I figured that it was obviously a mistake to be charged the extra month, and besides, if they charge 30 days ahead, but only ask for 10 days notice, they should be able to refund the rest of the month that you don't use anyways. He told me that they have a policy of never giving refunds. Which sounded absolutely absurd, so I had to leave and call the manager when he was in. Chris explained that they only give refunds by the whole month, and that they'd need me to vacate by the end of the month (in 3 days) in order for me to get a refund. I think this is also a bit ridiculous, but at least he was able to cite that this was the accurate company policy. I asked if he could refund the month and allow me to pay 10 days, but apparently the company policy is if you want a refund, they want you OUT! I'm letting this slide because I did mistakenly sign for the auto payments, including double rent. My main peeve is the poor communication of the rest of the team, which I did make clear to Chris. They shouldn't tell their customers that all they have to do is give 10 day notice. The actual policy, that Chris finally clarified, is that you have to give your min 10 day notice BEFORE YOUR NEXT BILLING DATE, so that they can pro-rate however many days you need of the next month when you move out. So if you pay your next month's rent on Dec 1st, then on Dec 10th gave 10 day notice that you're moving out on Dec 20th, you're shit out of luck for getting your money back for the rest of that month. You would have had to give 21 days notice on Nov 30th. read more

I was in desperate need of a storage unit and needed it asap. I've always passed by this storage company at least once a week but never really went in to check it out until last week. The office and facility were very clean and well maintained. The property manager - Chris is very helpful, took us on a tour, explained details on each size unit and didn't seem like he just wants to make a sale - the guy made sure all our questions was answered justifiably before signing the paperwork. They also offer a truck to haul your belongings from your home to their unit. I would definitely recommend this storage company to my family and friends. read more

These guys are top notch. I have rented from them twice (two different times and two different units) in the last six years. The use of the moving truck is a huge perk to renting here. It was clean, running well and ready on time both times I used it. The units are clean and feel "new" and bright. The floors have always been clean when I go in, the carts are usually available but on busy days a few more would be heaven. The entry/exit gate has always been reliably working and easy to use, lighting is fantastic which is important to me so I can see what the heck I'm doing. The bathrooms are always so clean that I feel like I'm not at a storage unit but maybe a friend's guest bathroom. I have had to change my billing date a few times due to timing of income coming in for auto pay and they have made it easy and obstacle free. If you go into the office they usually have bottled water and a candy jar on the counter and a comfy chair, so if u need a water, a minor break from loading or unloading, a bathroom break, or a little sugar boost, you don't have to leave and come back. The staff is friendly and helpful. I have never seen a mouse or a bug of any kind (I saw that review) and I am sure it can happen but it is highly unlikely to be a regular occurrence given how clean they keep everything. And it's very affordable in comparison to other places. I looked around and found that a huge jump in quality was not also a huge jump in price. I hesitate to leave this great review only because if I leave there and want to come back, they might be full! Teresa and Chris are taking care of things, so I feel my stuff is safe. Clean and still quite recent storage facility, friendly staff. Setup took about 30 minutes. Access is via code, until 9pm most days. First payment via credit card, explained the cancellation policy in detail: you just have to cancel at least ten days before your next payment is due (and there will not be a prorated refund). Corporate credit card bounced because their MCC4225 (=Public warehousing and storage) was not included in the allowed codes, but Discover worked just fine. They had a special "pay for two months get third free" for new customers - Great! read more

Ive rented storage unit from public storage and without a doubt Bay Area Self Storage is wayyyyy better from cleanliness and safety stand point you got what you pay for!!! The good point about this place is they are clean, well maintained units, and I have never had an issue with security. The problems are there office. They aren't open on holidays, they have limited hours, they don't return phone calls or email, and they generally not easy to work with at all. There autopay is ridiculous as I faxed paperwork in twice and they never received it despite the fact I showed a confirmation from the fax machine. This with all the fees they charge, and I am honestly done with them. Unfortunately I just haven't had the time to move the stuff to another company. read more

This is an update to my last review. As of August 2, 2016, the rodent issue at this location is still present. This is an ongoing, unresolved issue. I have made several attempts with the property manager Chris Wright to resolve this issue. He has neglected to resolve this issue and to notify all current customers of Bay Area Self Storage of the health & safety issue as it relates to the rodent infestation and possible exposure to hantavirus. I have contacted the regional manager, Angela Bloomquist, and left her a detailed message for a call back asap. I have also contacted the Center for Disease Control, Santa Clara County Vector Control and the State of California Attorney General's office for further assistance into this matter and to open an investigation. I have photos, documentation and other customers/witness statements. I would recommend that you find another place to store your stuff because it is not worth the health risk of exposure to rodent urine & feces, as well as, uncompensated damage to your personal property while it is being stored at Bay Area Self Storage. read more

They are always so helpful with all my needs! I started out there with one unit and loved the space, staff, and location that I had my sister get a unit there and I even got a second unit for more of my stuff! I've never had any issues there, I have units on the inside area and the outside. They are really good with communicating things like days they will be closed also its very nice being able to call in and have them charge my card. As i walked in a gentlebeast by the me of Chris greeted me. He was quick to tend to my storage needs and also very knowledgable. I was able to get a GREAT price on the unit of my choice (lower rate than my previous rental). State of the art security is always a plus. And knowing this puts me at ease. During morning and afternoon rush hour this place is kind of a pain to get to. HOWEVER, avoid those times and it will be a pleasure coming to such a clean and well run facility. Prices are competitive and it never really gets that crowded even on weekends. Shirley in the front office is the ultimate professional. I chuckled a little at the title CSSM but she surely has earned my respect. Trying to reach someone in their facility is getting beyond ridiculous. In the beginning, getting pricing and set up I had no issues. Trying to "borrow" their truck was not as easy as they made it sound, as you have to make sure they are actually AT the office. We have been back and forth so many times, finally got it sorted, got the truck, it's loaded, came back to unload and drop off truck, only to find there is a lock on our unit, which we are holding the one we purchased in our hand. Ready to cancel and take our business elsewhere, as their sign and web states "office hours 10am-6pm" however, no one is there onsite nor for the past hour or so, and it's nearly 2pm. I have called every phone number I can find for them, only to get routed to the same voicemail and no phone call back yet. It will take a miracle to get me to remove this review unless they can redeem themselves. Already refueled the truck but after several trips back and forth, I refuse. The gas is wasted due to their lack of being onsite. Not my issue. read more

They allow you to use the moving truck for when you move your items in. They called me if my bill was about to get a late fee prior to the late fee being added to give me a chance to pay. i used Bay Area Self Storage on Stone a couple years ago, and we are using them again. While getting someone in the office is sometimes a challenge as they occasionally have to cover 2 locations, I have always found the facility to be clean, well-maintained, and secure. Based on the 3 reviews reporting rat droppings / rat activity, I will be adding some preventive measures to my units (thanks Yelpers for help). The rat problem is, unfortunately, an ongoing issue as the City and County allow hobos to stay in the area, strewing trash and human waste throughout the neighborhood and along the railroad tracks that run behind the storage business. Until the City and County decide that having filthy hobos inhabiting railways, underpasses, creeks, and neighborhoods is unacceptable and actually do something for the tax money we pay, nothing will change, and businesses like BASS have to try to control and eradicate the vermin....since they can't do that, they have to deal with the rats as best they can. *squints at San Jose and Santa Clara County* read more

Really nice storage facility, I think its a few years old but seems brand new, A LOT nicer and cleaner than any around the area I could find. They were about the same price as everywhere else but the guy who helped me Chris was a lot nicer and explained everything well. Went with them because like I said cleanliness and security seemed way better here. Who wants to store their hard earned possessions at a dump not me! I've been storing there for a few months but have had no issues at all everythings been great! The one I had chose didn't have sufficient remaining space as I wanted outside roll-up access, and they recommended Bay Area Self Storage on Stone Ave as the only other he would trust. He was so right. My husband and i just stopped by to check this place for a unit, while we were driving by and we ended up signing for one! Very nice, love it here! The lady that helped us was so friendly, i forget her name (it started with an S, wish i remembered so i could compliment her accordingly). They had a great deal going on so we signed up right away and moved our stuff in, we only need something short term since we just got married and are in between living with our parents to finding our own place. This location is very clean, nice restroom, they have a truck you can use for only the cost of gas, and more. This is my first unit, but my husband has rented from numerous places before and he said he loves it here, it's better than any he has been to before. read more

The guy on the phone put me on hold and then called this location for me! He confirmed that they had what I was looking for and gave me Chris' name (manager).
