The hotel workers seemed to be sort of rude when asking for things like clean towels or toiletries. I understand if hotels are in short supply but as a guest staying there, it made it sort of difficult to enjoy the full stay. We were there for a week and there would be times where the hotel workers would start vacuuming early morning in the hall without any consideration of the people sleeping. The "continental" breakfast consisted of plain bagels, plain bread, old looking donuts and maybe a pastry here and there. Juice and coffee was also offered to guests but nothing to get overly excited over.The hotel room was fairly clean and the halls always kinda smelled good but that was the best part of the stay. Absolutely terrible customer service. Came in with a confirmed reservation and confirmation number and was told they had no record of my reservation and that they were full. No sorry, no alternate options, just "we have no rooms." When I, understandably, got upset and said "this is screwed up," the man at reception started literally screaming at me, telling me that "he's just a person" and threatening to call 911 on me. It was okay until I was told my bf was getting charged for something that was not wrong and when we asked about coming into see the sheet because they said we ruined a set of sheets and I know we didnt because we checked everything before we left. I stayed at the motel I checked out and was told everything was fine and then they charge me $100 saying that there was something wrong with the sheets when I asked to see the sheets they said the sheets were blowing away so basically they treated me out of $100 and then when I tried to talk to the guy about it, he was very rude and told me to do what I had to do I had stayed there previously and was happy but apparently when times are slow they will treat you to make extra money be very cautious if you stay there. read more

The man working at the front desk around 10:30 am on 6/29 was rude, disrespectful and intentionally hung up while I was asking a question. I first asked to be transferred and he told me how to do that (not very nicely though he sounded annoyed), but then as I continued to ask another question about the services, he hung up. When I called back and asked why he disconnected the call while I was still speaking and he was short and threatened to hang up, and continue hanging up if I called back. Terrible customer service! I am recommending that people do not use this service, just off the phone they are disrespectful and uninformative. Also he forgot to hang up the second time and I heard him on the phone bullying an customer for using another (Expedia) service for booking?? I have a friend who due to a house fire she was left homeless.Opportunity council stepped in to help her out. My friend has struggled to gain weight her entire life and has always been judged due to her thin body as being a drug user and has been experiencing the harshest treatment from the owners of this hotel.Since they see her as a client who is receiving help through the O.C she has been embarrassed in front of other guest at the continental breakfast everyone else receives by telling her to"get out ,you don't pay for this," when she was told she does get.Not once have the came to her room to get and wash her towels and she's not allowed any guests in her room at all ...They make her feel less than by treating her this way and it's simply wrong.Tjese programs are there to help people in these circumstances and people like them make it something that is shameful to receive help with...I find the rooms are dirty and lack any comfort as her heating and a/c sell as t.v haven't worked she she moved in and she is scared to ask for help out of fear of reacting she might get from them . Until they treat everyone with common courtesy they should ,I ask that you not rent a room there read more

These reviews amaze me.... for $80 a night, what do you expect? The Four Seasons? Seriously. This hotel is quaint and clean. The furniture is dated but fully functional. The breakfast isn't much different than other small hotels I have stayed at. The staff has been very friendly and plenty accommodating. I have stayed here twice and not one noise have I heard. The beds are comfortable and the room feels clean. What more can you ask for? I have enjoyed staying here and will do so again. read more

I recently traveled to Bellingham on leisure for the first time and was eager to return to the Bay City Motor Inn. I'd stayed here ten years prior for a tour of and visit to Western Washington University, and had an equally pleasant stay this time around. As a traveler on a budget, I was grateful both times for the most affordable rates in town; my check-in experience was also quite convenient as I was able to call ahead of time and book a room from the road, albeit very last-minute. I wish to highlight the friendliness and courtesy of the entire family of hard-working, personable and attentive staff. They made me feel right at home from my first point of (telephone) contact all the way through my stay, and the gentleman manager who checked me out at the end actually remembered me from my previous stay ten years ago! I look forward to returning to stay here again, and feel good about supporting a local family with my lodging dollar. Their devotion to high quality guest service deserves a high overall rating. My room was everything I expected it to be: clean, comfortable, immaculate, quiet, and very habitable. The spacious macro-mini fridge was a big plus, as I brought my own food to save money instead of dining out. Other guests have highlighted their HBO service as well. But I didn't have time to watch much on the flatscreen TV as there was so much to explore just a stone's throw from the hotel. The location is fantastic: close to the highway, and less than a mile from the downtown hip strip (local food, music, beer, etc.) on State Street. I brought my bicycle and enjoyed an easy evening ride to some good live music. In the morning, I enjoyed a continental breakfast in the company of a traveling family and a group of friends watching a morning football (soccer) game. Ultimately, the Bay City Motor In is a welcoming, comfortable motel that doesn't pretend to be an ultra-modern, high-end, luxury establishment. But it is my choice when I travel to Bellingham, and is, in my opinion, worth every penny spent. read more

What a dump ~ looks nice outside and _one_ of the Women in the Indian Family that runs the place , is trying very hard but the Father and Son are useless lazy jerks , the place was only passably clean , the furniture was broken up and the room air conditioner (room 303 third floor) was broken because they are TOO LAZY to clean the accumulated dust in it that normally accumulates in the evaporator core . The room was supposed to be NON SMOKING but it stank of cigarette smoke and there were cigarette burns on every surface and holes burned in the carpet and blankets , blood stains on the sheets and so on . Towels were worn as thin as old T - Shirts although they were clean . The safety lock on the door was long broken (it had been re painted over the broken part several times) , the steel door had been kicked in and crudely repaired multiple times , had random holes drilled in it here and there , all covered in multiple brushed on coats of paint . Due to no AC the room was stifling hot , hotter than the hallway or any other part of the Hotel even though we left the window wide open for over 12 hours . Apparently the third and top floor is reserved for the drugged out College kids from Wa. State U. that's a few blocks away , they provided non stop music and yelling plus dense clouds of noxious pot smoke all night long . In the early morning the Management opened the windows at each end of the hall to allow the pot smoke to blow away . Each floor is supposed to have an ice and vending machines , only the ground floor did and the vending machine was at most 1/4 full of dusty out of date & stale chips . The swimming pool in the basement was closed . There were signs you didn't see until after checking in that warned of theft and prostitution problems . Stay here at your own risk . At least no bugs in the beds in room 303 . If they'd bother to spend 1/3 the effort inside that they do outside , this could be a nice place instead of a den of iniquity . -Nate read more

Clean room at a low price: what's not to like? Yes, the neighborhood has seen better days, but they have security cameras everywhere and 24 hour monitoring. I needed a place to stay during my Canada to California road trip and found this place via Google. Conveniently located close to the highway, this place offered a great value at a fair price. I got a large clean room, spacious bathroom, and HBO to get my game of thrones on for only $60 a night. The breakfast, included with the room, surprisingly had quite a bit of selection like waffles, bagels, yogurt, toast, juice, etc. Friendly and accommodating staff, this place was great!! I'm surprised the haters below rated it so low. I would never have gone there if I had seen this misleading rating on yelp. I'm glad I went to Google Maps instead and found this place, which was rated 3.7/5 and had one of the lowest prices in the area. The place was clean, spacious, and had amenities in that of more expansive motels. What do you expect from a 2-3 star motel? This place exceeded my expectations. Omg, manager acts as if it the Taj Mahall but it is SO NOT! 1 washer for 4 floors of guests, 2 dryers but 1 is so gross IT should also have an out of service sign. Non working heater in the room that took 3 days to fix, they gave us an extra blanket. In December! AND THE TERM " CUSTOMER SERVICE" is completely foreign to these people. NOTE: IF YOU BOOK. NONREFUNDABLE! Disgusting place and rude staff! Including Anna and creepy guy in turban at front desk. I had to wait 25 minutes to check in, because they did not have clean rooms in the entire hotel! Even though the hotel was not full. When I went to room, the room was not cleaned properly. They slapped a "sanitized" wrap around the toilet, but dried poop and urine was on the seat and lid of the toilet!! Even though we waited 25 minutes to check in, this turbaned guy had the nerve to be rude when we were only 1- 2 mins late checking out(by the time we reached lobby). What a jackass! read more

Right from check in I already had a bad feeling about this place. Asked for extra towels after being handed my room key and the staff reacted as if I asked for his first born. He went on to question me why I needed extra towels and unwillingly handed one over. Morning of check out the same man comes knocking on my door harassing me that it's 11 and that I should be out. This was at 1045. I showed him the time on my phone and be proceeded to argue with me about it. I have stayed at the coachman inn and days inn which are both located on the same block. Both are extremely polite and awesome with their customer service. Please dont support this business even if they may be cheaper. Places ran like this inn don't deserve success. read more

Affordable, centrally located, and extremely nice management. The manager was kind enough to accommodate our unique situation, even though it meant us needing to check in way earlier than the inn's policy allows. There's wifi, firm but comfy beds (I hate squishy soft ones!), and heaters that work very well. The room was clean, larger than expected for the price, and had a nice tub as well. Our trip to Bellingham was spontaneous so not a lot of lodging choices, we were lucky to get a room here. Not the best place Ive ever stayed at, but clean and comfortable. A nice big Jacuzzi tub in the room. The only disappointment was there was no hot water in the shower. No complimentary coffee in the room. So the wakeup was rough. Also, there was a lot of loud talking going on in the hallway outside of our room early in the morning that woke us up. The management should show a little more consideration for their sleeping guests. read more

The reservation agent took my reservation for a one night stay in August at a cost of $70. When I reserved the room, I told the agent that I was coming into town for the RSVP bike ride. Six weeks later, the hotel called me and said that they made a mistake on the room rate. Instead of the agreed price, they jacked up the rates that weekend to $199/night! He said they were sorry for the mistake, and canceled my reservation when I refused to pay the higher price. Not a good way to run a business. read more

Clean, but strange. Friendly staff, but reservations were tough to make over the phone. The outlets all failed to hold our chargers in, all the appliances were unplugged and the Comcast remote wasn't programmed for the TV. Sign posted on back door states that it will be locked at 11pm, but was locked at 10pm when we got in from post dinner coffee. Attendant explained that he locked it because there were "a lot of people here tonight"... what difference does that make? If you lock the door at 10pm, then change the sign. Documents stated that coffee would be available until 11pm; it wasn't. The continental breakfast is sparse. Guesthouse Inn is a much better value, much cleaner and more comfortable. read more

The only person working there was OBVIOUSLY trying to scam us, he tried to insist that we had not paid for an extra person (we had paid the fine) and tried to kick us out in the middle of the night. HE CALLED THE COPS ON US 3 TIMES. They sided with us because he was creating false conflict, acting belligerent, and harassing us. Terrible, nightmare, insane situation. The owners are nice, there is a free continental breakfast, great for that rush out the door to the airport. The staff are attentive and courteous. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Great place to stay!! Very friendly and accommodating. Brought a group of high schoolers and they kept us all together on the same floor. They also made sure we had everything we needed.
