We stayed at the coachman Inn June 23 and 24th, had a great time in Bellingham and enjoyed our stay at the coachman Inn. Facilities, pool front desk room hallway, excellent condition. When we needed help from the front desk, they were most helpful without having to ask twice. Highly recommended having a car is helpful at that location. Usually when I feel there's room for improvement, I rate a business no higher than 4*. I'm making an exception here, because the value part of the equation is so strong. We had room #111, which is the closest room on the second floor to the main (lobby) building. I thought road noise might be a problem, but it wasn't really noticeable. In fact, there were only two things I didn't like about the room. There are no microwaves in the rooms. But there is a small one in the hallway on each building's floor, shared by all. Not as convenient (we use it a lot for tea, coffee, etc.), but good enough. More annoying was the amount of light coming in from the windows. There are bright security lights on all night (that's good), but the curtains were not designed to cope with that light. Therefore, the room remains pretty bright all night. That I really didn't like. You can look at my photos for an idea of what the breakfast buffet included (e.g., 2 kinds of bread, 2 fruits, 4 dry cereals, coffee, etc.) Nothing remarkable, but I have definitely experienced worse. Overall, it was a comfortable, clean, and relatively quiet room, at an exceptionally good price. Service was always very friendly and helpful. And the location is centrally located, near the I-5 freeway, near downtown, and pretty close to Boulevard Park, Zuanich Point Park, and Whatcom Falls Park. If I return to Bellingham, this would definitely be my first choice of lodging. read more

This is a little gem of a hotel in Bellingham. Nice clean spacious rooms. Staff (I think owners) were friendly and helpful. Close to the freeway but it was just "white noise" and we slept great. Continental breakfast ( what you'd expect- rolls juice cereal etc) is free. Just 5-10 minutes frim downtown or Fairhaven. We'll stay here again next tine we come here. read more

We had an excellent experience at the Coachman Inn, from making rather last minute reservations, checking in and accommodating our requests. We were in town for a memorial service, which resulted in a family reunion of sorts. Many of our family had also booked rooms at the Coachman Inn. After the memorial service we returned to the hotel and ordered some pizza. The management was very kind allowing us to gather in the breakfast area. The rooms were very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The location is convenient to businesses nearby. I can highly recommend this hotel for service and comfort. We'll be back. read more

Coachman Inn is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting your child at WWU/seeing them off or just to visit Bellingham. The owners and their staff are friendly and attentive and make it a point to make sure your stay is comfortable and that you are familiar with the surrounding area. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and safe. There are amenities like microwaves in each building (if you prefer to not always eat out), refrigerator in room, laundry, and free breakfast items if you need it. Great coffee! I had to cancel a trip and then make changes to my later actual trip related to my child's attendance at WWU, and they were both nice about it and super accommodating. They are very close to anything you'd want to see in Bellingham and literally across (walking distance) from Sehome Arboretum, which has wonderful hiking paths and is co-managed by WWU & the City of Bellingham. We will stay here every time we come to Bellingham. The price versus value has little comparison. No hassle, no fuss, clean, quiet, friendly. read more

This is a budget motel, and we were a bit concerned it might be sketchy. But we booked it because of good reviews. Turns out the positive reviews are accurate. The place is clean and well maintained. Our room was small but very clean. Seems like it's a family run business and everyone was friendly and helpful. No sketchy people anywhere, just families and older couples. It's next to the interstate but otherwise quiet. We'll be staying there again whenever we visit our daughter at WWU. Five stars for what it is, a clean safe budget motel. read more

I could not recommend this motel any more! I totally messed up my dates of a return flight and had to extend my stay here for three days. The mgt/staff are so wonderful. It has been recently refurbished. Breakfast is light with mostly cereal, bagels, toast, and fruit. Great for a quick bite and some snacks for later in the day. You can't beat the price. They even have a pool and a very nice workout/fitness room. Plenty of parking and great location to hang around Bellingham or head to the national park or other trails in the area. Comfy beds, clean rooms and common areas, and plenty of towels. The only thing I would suggest is new pillows as the ones in my room were flat - but there were four of them, so no complaining on my part. I just wish that as with ANY hotel/motel, that people would be considerate and stop slamming doors and being loud. UGH! Hands down - one of the BEST places I ever stayed at. We enjoyed our stay at the Coachman Inn. The location was perfect and a quick drive to get to WWU. We have stayed at other hotels in Bellingham which were further away and cost more. The price at the Coachman was excellent! Our room was clean and quiet. I appreciated the microwave in the hallway because many hotels no longer have microwaves available at all. We stayed at the Coachman Inn on the July 4th weekend, and they were slammed. Our room had not been cleaned, or been cleaned thoroughly, and we mentioned this to staff, who told us their cleaning person left for the day and all other rooms were full. The front desk woman said she could come and change the duvet, but out of kindness, chose to allow her to deal with the front desk, and stayed in the room, simply removing the dirty duvet and throwing it into a dirty linen pile. The next morning, customers were complaining about staffing issues, as there were no food or towels. The woman at the front desk started to cry. I supported her, and told her she is doing the best she could. I checked out on the morning of the sixth, and I was charged for two nights, and did not request a discount for the unclean room, and did not complain further. Almost a week later I was hit with a $250 charge for a "smell", stating they had to use an "ozone" machine for 1/2 hour, making it impossible to let the room. The sad part is, I actually cleaned the room to help out, asking the cleaning lady for a black garbage bag, which I filled and tied, cleaned all counters, pulled all sheets and left them in the middle of the bed, etc., and even separated all wet towels into the bathroom and rinsed off all plates in the sink (it was a room w/kitchen). So, if you have the choice of staying anywhere but the Coachman, please do, as they will try to charge you for things they can't quantify/prove, that has nothing to do with you, even if you bend over backwards to ensure their staff don't have a MH breakdown. Not only this, it is clear that there is no staff even on a holiday (no cleaners on site, no help for the single person front desk, even on a holiday weekend) so you will likely have the same experience as me. They will also add insult to injury (financial), by decrying your own experience, and debating your contention that an odor might be from food (the room has a kitchen, and I am Indian) or from the tied garbage sitting in 95 degree heat for several hours until the one cleaning lady could clean all 500 rooms, and refuse to reverse charges. Either way, your weekend will be ruined, and you will have to call your credit card company to report their fraud after listening to an uncompassionate, overworked, front desk lady tell you she has to get off the phone as another customer left because she had to sit through your complaint :/ read more

Do NOT judge this book by its cover. The outside has a rundown "old style motel" vibe. The pool seems to be indefinitely closed. The hallways are... unremarkable. And. The staff is spectacularly attentive and gracious! The remodeled bathrooms are pristine, as is the new room carpeting. Standard coffee, blow dryer, etc. in the rooms. Continental breakfast is generous and fresh (peeled boiled eggs, thank you!), and the concierge will answer any question anytime. Okay, the place is your classic, old school motel, except for that you do enter your room through a hallway. But it's inexpensive and not lavishly elegant, meaning no marble counters or intricate tile work anywhere. BUT, not only was the lobby new and immaculately clean and the room a comfortable temperature just walking in, but there was one element of our stay that pushed any well repaired dilapidation off the table when contemplating review stars, and that was the hospitality of the one running the show, one who could accurately be called a host. I'm sorry I didn't get his name. He had such vanishing self importance that I don't think he ever mentioned it, even though he turned out to be a great conversationalist-if you were game for talking. He also seemed to know when to back off and, in our case, let us eat and reminisce. He walked us to our room. He brought us water at the pool, and did not mention my wife's beer being against the rules. Apparently a U-haul truck driver had gotten stuck in his parking lot the night before, looking for a place to stay. Vacancies were not to be found but he got on the phone-at 2AM-and found them a room from one of his competitors! 2AM! He comes from a farming family in India, from parents who must have done a great deal right. We will be back when visiting Bellingham. read more

My sister and I stayed in Bellingham for 4 nights at the Coachman Inn. We made our choice based on value and online reviews. We were extremely happy with our stay. If you're looking for value and a clean, well run place to stay in Bellingham don't pass this up. The owner is very friendly and is focused on details. At breakfast we were the first to arrive and saw him rearrange items to make sure they were pleasing to the eye. Throughout breakfast he was wiping down tables as soon as someone left and wiping down counters often. Breakfast is really well done. The normal fare for breakfast with a few additional items that made a difference. There were several options for milk ( soy, almond, regular, half and half). Orange juice and apple juice from a carton rather than the machine. They had boiled eggs, oatmeal packets, store bought packaged pastries, yogurt, clementines, bananas and more. Just a nice variety. Beds are extremely comfortable with nice fluffy pillows. My sister and I both commented on the beds after the first night sleep. (I hate flat pillows at some hotels). The main reason we liked the place is the owner's pride. When you see the owner be so personally involved and friendly you know it's a great place to be. I don't usually Don't review hotels, but this is a nice spot. If you travel to BC, you know where the Bellingham Covid testing spots are located. This hotel is the nicest mid price range in town. It's about the same price as the meth hotels near the airport. The rooms are totally brand new, clean and comfy. It's nice and quiet with all the 5 star amenities like a gym, pool, and hot tub. Lastly, the 2 guys working here were super nice. I'm an American living in Canada, so these guys were like Canadian nice. Good customer service and professionalism. I travel a lot and and hotel folks are usually miserable. Breakfast is on until 10. read more

Okay, I booked this solely on the yelp reviews. Does this hotel look sketchy? Most definitely, yes... however the reviews kept saying it was clean. Was it clean? I guess so. It is very outdated but everything seemed clean. I did see gnats flying around in the room, but I feel like all of Bellingham and Washington in general have a ton of flying insects around. I saw them in restaurants throughout our stay in Washington so it appears to be normal? The owner (I'm guessing he was the owner) checked me in after I waited for a bit in the lobby. He was apologetic. He checked me in, asked me how many people total and I told him. I was charged extra for anyone 12+ years old. It was only 10 bucks so that was fine. I believe I paid about 110 for a Saturday night. I planned on leaving by 7ish the next day so we were only using the room for 12 hours. I didn't want to pay over 200/night at another hotel bc I just didn't think it was worth it. The area was quiet. The breakfast offered was pretty good. They had wrapped pastries, fresh whole fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, coffee and bottled water. I'm always down to support small businesses, esp ones where the owners are very hands-on. This one would be one I'd continue to support if ever I'm back in Bellingham overnight. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! The employees at the front on 12/7 around 3:45-4:00pm absolutely embarrassed my friend while we were checking in. After he showed them his service dog certificate on his phone they told him that his dog wasn't a service animal because it barked. After we showed him proof on my friends cell phone the guy decided to THROW the cell phone on the floor. Absolutely horrific experience avoid this hotel at all costs. read more

My son will be attending WWU so I had his order from Bed, Bath, & Beyond sent here. The two guys that checked me in were super awesome and delivered the boxes to our room. Now, when I'm talking all the boxes, I'm talking ALL BOXES (see pictures). I tipped them like you should because they went beyond the call of duty...and they gave my tip back! In this day and age, who does that? Aside from the amazing front desk staff, the room and bathrooms are super clean. There's a coffee maker in the room but still offer a continental breakfast in the morning (that starts at 6!!). There's a community microwave right outside of our room (convenient for me). A fridge in the room (for your leftovers and whatnots) and there's places to eat close by. After a long day, it's nice to end it on a positive note!! read more

Desk clerk on (trying to) check in was on the phone with some "computer problem", and ignored me and a couple of others who wanted to check in for almost an hour. No microwave in the room, just one in the hallway for "communal" use, I guess. Mostly no room numbers on the several buildings so it wasn't clear where the room was except for the broken English description from the front desk. Not a bad little place. I booked way in advance (November) for an end of March/beginning or April trip and 4 nights cost me around $300, which is fantastic. Absolutely nothing fancy about it. Definitely older, but I think a lot of structures in Bellingham are. Decently clean, quiet, good parking. You're directly by the freeway, like I could see it from our window, but surprisingly did not hear it at night. Bed was comfortable and clean. I unfortunately did not get his name, but the man running the place during the week was very nice and friendly and always said hi to us when he saw us. The man on the weekends was also nice and mostly was just quiet. He was always attentive to the complimentary breakfast. The breakfast was good for a contineintal breakfast - hard boiled eggs, coffee with dairy and non-dairy creamer, toast, bagels, juices, oranges and bananas. You're close enough to downtown (we walked one night and it took us maybe 20 mins), but not in the center of everything. I would definitely recommend. read more

My experience at the Coachman Inn was bizarre and uncomfortable. The small, unfriendly owner of this hotel was shady from the moment we walked in. He wouldn't make eye contact or even give us a straight answer about whether he had a room available. We brushed off the awkwardness and checked into a room that smelled heavily of air freshener and febreeze. Later that night, as the febreeze wore off, a strong, musty, fecal smell engulfed the room. Sometime after midnight, we were woken up by the owner who opened the door and demanded to know how many people were staying in the room. We asked him to leave but he got more and more agitated until he eventually hurled a homophobic slur at a friend of mine and we decided to leave. He refused to refund us. Horrible experience all around. There are four or five hotels on the same street as the coachman. I would recommend the Cascade, which is right next door. The rooms are cleaner, the owner is much nicer, and the poop smell is absent. Please do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but here. I guarantee the coachman is paying for good yelp reviews. There is no way these guests haven't noticed the smell in these rooms. We still haven't gotten our money back. read more
