The charming and historic main building filled with deliciousness!

I fell absolutely in love with this historic Great Lakes gem! The drive up to the grounds immediately lets you know you're entering someplace special, with its rustic old nautical buildings, hard working boats with more stories tell than you'd have time to hear, and wild grown inlets surrounding the main building of the fishery. The women working their were kind and friendly that moment we walked in the door and inside the main building was clean and nice. The cooler case was stocked with mouthwatering cuts of delicious fresh and smoked lake fish on ice - perch, walleye, trout, and, of course, whitefish. We were traveling so unfortunately I couldn't load up on as much as I would have liked. But we opted for some smoked whitefish dip and smoked whitefish, both which would travel well with us back home. I thought we bought plenty, but it didn't stand a chance! Both were among the best I've had anywhere in Michigan and we devoured it all in a matter of a day or two. We brought some home back to our families and they said the same. For most, it was all gone by breakfast the next day! I already can't wait to go back and am sooo looking forward to attending the Fish Sandwich Festival some day, the sandwich sounds amazing and is backed by an incredible story. From here on out, when we're in the Thumb we're braking for Bay Port!

2020-07-25. Bay Port Fish. Bay Port, MI. With COVID-19, phone orders only with dockside pickup. Prices Guide 1.

2020-07-25. Bay Port Fish. Bay Port, MI. I forgot to check in when I got here this morning, so let me first update you guys on what's happening during COVID-19 times. The place is still open for business, but their store is closed. Orders are only accepted strictly via online communication or by phone and fulfilled with curbside pickup. There was a large sign indicating this when I arrived with a telephone number to call to place my order. I called, let them know I was outside in my car and asked what they had in stock for today, which was Whitefish, Trout, and Catfish -- No Salmon, which was odd because Salmon is the only farmed fish they use (the rest is wild caught). I got a filet of each of the Whitefish and Trout and added a tub of Smoked Salmon spread. My order was filled immediately and Ann was at my car within two minutes, literally! I paid via square and was on my way. Total damage $41. Hours are also modified, Saturdays, they're open from 09:00-14:00. Lastly, due to COVID-19, they will not be shut down at the Port Austin Farmer's Market (hence our detour directly to the shop!) The Store in Bay Port is the Fishery. It's located at the north end of 1st Street off Port Austin Rd. There is a sign at the corner, it not very big, but then again neither is the speed limit, so we had no problems spotting it. 1st street becomes gravel at some point as you head north, but keep going, it ends at the store. Parking is pretty much where you can find a spot. Being gravel, there are no markers of any kind. Picked up the fish because I had planned on having it for lunch during our day trip to Port Austin. Plan was to check out the Farmers Market then pick up some fresh bread and a bottle of vino and picnic it with the smoked fish. Fast forward to lunch and we come to find out that the fillets and the smoked salmon spread were all frozen! I was expecting chilled, but not frozen... so that was a bit of a disappointment. So after all that, we didn't really get to taste the product today. In case anyone was wondering, no we didn't just have bread with wine for lunch (although there would be nothing wrong with that if you add some nice aged cheese), I picked up some smoked Fish from Jahr's at the Farmers Market so that we could still have our picnic at the park. The reason for my 4 star rating is that I didn't want to tip their current rating one way or the other. But seeing as they sit at an average of 4 1/3, and my disappointment with the frozen fish I rounded down. FYI, both tips on this place stated that the fish is always fresh, and one stated that they're provide ice for free. I don't doubt them that this is the norm, but perhaps with COVID-19 still in effect, the tip should be amended to append the word "frozen" after 'fresh'... I didn't get any pictures of the place because I never left my car, but they did include a price list with my order when they brought it out to me, which I'll upload along with pictures of my purchase once I get to taste the product (I put it in the fridge for now and will slowly temper it tomorrow). The prices are on the high side and inline with those you'd find up in St. Ignace, I hope the fish is good and that it wasn't my money that was "smoked". If You would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

I was looking for a steak to throw on the grill and wanted to give this business a try as there are only a handful of markets on this side of the state that specialize in meats. They had all the meats you would expect too see where I settled on a Porterhouse steak based on 1). how the steak looked and 2) price which was very reasonable especially in light of todays inflated meat prices at $12.99 a lb . Upon getting the steak home I was quite pleased with the end product. The meat had an appropriate amount of fat for a Porterhouse, was very tender and just as importantly was very flavorful where the meat was definately a cut above the other grocery stores in the area and on a par with Neiman's which has tad higher prices in my opinion. Based on my initial experience I will definately consider this market in the future where I will be leaning towards a nice Ribeye the next time round. People are friendly and the location just a block off of US23 is very convenient and hard to \beat considering its close proximity to other key business in the area to include Walmarts, coffee shops and assorted restaurants. Nice!!
