Small town, small family-owned diner. We stopped for breakfast and were not disappointed. The staff are friendly, flexible and attentive. The ambience is laid back, homey, lively. We were greeted promptly, our order was taken when we were ready and the food arrived piping hot. Our coffee was filled without asking. These qualities aren't always present with many establishments. Heard the words please, thank you and you're welcome more times than I can count. Great staff. I ordered their most popular breakfast item: corned beef hash. It was perfect. Homemade fried potatoes, ample chunks of meat and eggs over medium that brought together all the flavors. The toast, rye, was yummy. They also have homemade white bread for toast, homemade donuts and cinnamon rolls. Again, another hallmark of a great diner: good cooks and bakers. These old diners have the best food -- real butter, real cracked eggs, homemade bread. We ate breakfast there twice because we knew we wouldn't be able to top it. There was a table of guys who clearly eat there every morning and it was fun hearing them joke with each other and with our server. We tried Walt's Restaurant not only once but we tried them twice as every restaurant has a bad day once in a while. Sadly both times we tried their breakfast and their lunch the food was so greasy the eggs and hash browns and then we also tried their cheeseburgers a few weeks later just to give them a second chance....After eating both meals at Walt's both my wife and myself got home just in time to be sick for the rest of both afternoons. We're not quite sure why they get higher reviews as we've talked to a few neighbors and most of them have vowed not to go back because of the food and the rude service that some of the staff have given. Sadly even though we just only live 10 minutes away we won't be back and we sadly cannot refer them to our friends or family. read more

Love this place. went there as a kid going up north, off and on for like 30 years now. When i was a kid i ate so many pancakes once i puked but it was so worth it. As an adult i still love it. great burgers, and breakfasts, but, i didnt get to go up north this year, but i just found out about... i just had the homemade doughnut ! i had someone bring it back for me i heard they were super huge, and made fresh, and had a maple one. best doughnut ive ever had in my life. so incredible. i told myself i was only going to eat like a quarter of it. i ate the whole thing in like 2 minutes. so worth it. I have a son with food allergies and when we dine out we always carry a print out what they are and how a restaurant might help to ensure food prep safety. Of course, we only order items that would not normally contain any of his allergens. We ask that our waiter or waitress check with the kitchen about any ingredient or cross contamination concerns. At Walt's our waitress Lauren M. seemed put out that we even inquired about food safety and provided her with our informational slip. When she returned from the kitchen she very plainly said that the kitchen did not feel comfortable with the request and would take no responsibility for any possibility of cross contamination, as they only had one grill top. She offered no alternate options for us to consider for him, but instead told us there was nothing safe for him to eat there. And then she asked what we would like to order. Lauren's poor attitude, abrasive demeanor and lack of empathy were made even more evident when another waitress approached and tried to assist, but Lauren cut her off with, "Well, we don't want to get sued." I have no idea of the quality of food for this place. It is unlikely I would return, due to the lack of willingness to provide any safeguards in place for those with food allergies, whatever they might be. Also the lack of understanding of how to assist customers with special requests. This was one of our worst restaurant experiences in several years in this regard. read more

I usually really like Walt's. Small menu but good food. We haven't been all summer bc the tourists and campers overrun the place, so finally went. The food brought out was burned or flat out made wrong. Before ours arrived we were overhearing all the complaints from many tables. I would be embarrassed to set the food down that we got. We said nothing, ate very little, no one asked us how it was, we paid and we gtfo. The one waitress who is often quite spastic was having meltdown after meltdown complete with cursing and even called one woman a "F*ckin B*tch" out loud for all to hear while she walked away after she complained about her food. We stopped in for breakfast. The food was fine. Typical diner breakfast fare. Nothing special, but perfectly serviceable if you're hungry. The service was really bad. The servers were not attentive. They did not appear to have been trained well. Parts of our order were forgotten or incorrect. And there was not a hint of hospitality. One person cleaned tables as we sat for what seemed like an eternity to be noticed or offered something to drink. Our server let part of our order die waiting to be brought to our table while she went to take the orders from a group at another table. It was pretty awful service. The decor is old and shabby. Came here for breakfast and it was delicious and cheap! I had the croissant breakfast sandwich and my husband had the Southern Loaded Omelet with which was amazing! I'm not sure what is in the sausage gravy but it was incredible. This is a mom and pop local place nothing fancy and a wonderful establishment. They used to have homestyle food but not anymore. Its almost like the cook is a line cook serving Gordon's frozen food as the days of meatloaf, pot roast and the like are no more. We sure miss Ruth's cooking. The omelet wasn't warm inside and the portion size has decreased. It's like the ingredients inside were not even warmed before put in the omelet. Raise the price not lessen the portion as customers expect it to be the same. We know prices are going to increase. The serving team is a pleasure to interact with. read more

I've never placed a negative review but this place is just trash!! Completely rude as soon as we walked in the door. Sign says wait to be seated so we wait and then the lady looks at us like we are stupid and points to a table without saying a word. Waitress was beyond rude, literally dropped my plate in front of me and walked away. I got French toast that was limp and yellow, basically was dipped in egg and dropped on the grill for a minute I guess. When paying the only words were want a receipt? I can't believe I've never reviewed this before! We went to Walt's for breakfast again this morning. We made it early enough to beat the church crowd in, although we did get the last available table when we happened to arrive. Two out of three of the waitresses working today have been there more than 30 years! I had an omelette, and my hubby and daughter had the pancakes. It was good food, and exactly what we ordered and expected. I have to add that the cinnamon rolls ordered by the table next to us looked really awesome. The menu says they're homemade, and I'm craving one now. I wasn't a big fan of the Nascar decor, and my daughter was a bit bothered by the noise level, but not enough to stop us from going again. read more
