Abby Shay, I don't know if I spelled your name correctly, but I love your store even if I am not a regular quilter. You are a kind and generous soul who is also extremely dog friendly. Located in the "Jacuzzi" Plaza right off of the Central Avenue exit is the lovely Bay Quilts (in Building three just past the gate track. My mom, a quilter, asked me to join her in going here. She was looking for some grunge fabric for the back side of an extremely ornate piece she had done. Abby Shay and her staff pulled three or four pieces of fabric in different styles and matching shade colors as suggestions for the backside of this piece. Most of the cotton I looked at, meanwhile, appeared to be between $12-$16/yd. I was overjoyed to find Japanese cotton and an amazing section of cotton panels. Truly--they have the best selection of panels I have ever seen. Abby Shay's mom used to (still does?) own and manage New Pieces Quilt Shop that recently relocated to Gilman Ave, which is also rumored to have a great selection and helpful staff. I enjoyed as an occasional sewer and rare quilter the gifts and novelties section. Also, Abby Shay was totally cool with me walking around with my dog in his carrier, let me meet her dogs, and even offered him a treat as we left. Do a Yelp check in and get 10% off your purchase! I can't say enough about this super kind owner. She has been quilting for over 20 years and is so incredibly helpful!

I'm always hesitant about ordering fabric online but not so with Bay Quilts. The fabrics they offer are of the highest quality and their customer service is outstanding. Recently, Sally helped me fill a fabric order to sew an apron for my daughter, an true Birder. I highly recommend Bay Quilts for all your quilting and crafting projects. Paula S. from Denver, CO.

    Don't disappear Bay Quilts!

Diverse selection of colors, prints, and patterns for those who love cotton fabrics! The shop also has unique items from local artists--necklaces, art prints, cards etc. SFBayQuilts.com to brows selection, order fabric to be shipped, or to make appointment for in-store-covid-era shopping. Friendly staff even to those who don't quilt. Yay for that! I found some bright baltics to turn into puppy toys, face masks, and silly bows!

I can't say enough good things about Bay Quilts! The fabric selection is spectacular and Sally and all of her employees are so helpful and nice. They are experts at picking fabrics and are always are eager to help me when I'm needing assistance putting fabrics or colors together. When I need it I also get help picking thread colors when it's time for me to quilt. Sally always picks a few thread colors that I would never think of which really helps me learn how to make my quilts really pop! They seem really happy when I bring my projects back to show them as well, which is really nice. The shop is organized and immaculate. Sally, Jeanne and Becky have been especially helpful and I feel like their expertise is really helping me learn how to put fabrics and colors together. It's so wonderful being able to shop in person again!! This is definitely my favorite quilt shop. If you are looking for quality fabric and notions as well as friendly, knowledgeable customer service this is the spot!

I drove from petaluma to check out your store. But you were closed because of the debate. I wish you had said you were closed on Yelp. :(

The first time…read moreended up working out, although the fabric texture was not what I was expecting, I could made it work. I decided to return to them for another custom order since my design color print itself was not an issue. This time, the order was not of quality at all. I reached out to inquire why the color did not match the mock up we agreed to. After three separate inquiries, I received two responses back, both stating the same thing; "At this time, since the order was printed as submitted and approved, we would not consider this a manufacturing defect" then at the bottom of the email it states "Please note that screen colors may differ slightly from the final print"... When I inquired about the misleading verbiage of "slightly differ". I was met with the same non-collaborative response. At this point, I can't wait another three weeks for a new order to come even if I wanted to, but I had time to inquire about this issue so I can understand. Unfortunately, all I understand is that customer service/satisfaction is not of priority to them. At one point, I would tell multiple people if they were looking for custom made fabric, that this might be the best value on the market. Now that I've had to interact with customer service more directly and I've gotten the full experience I would not recommend this service unfortunately.

Unfortunately my experience with an associate named Jess made the whole thing pretty miserable. When I explained I was new and needed help choosing clay, she would just stare at me blankly when I asked a question, like she was waiting for me to figure it out myself. It was incredibly frustrating to stand there and try to puzzle out what she wanted from me - a simple "what are you trying to make?" or "what look are you going for?" would have gone a long way. She cut me off mid-sentence more than once, and when she walked me over to the clay wall she made a spectacle of it - speaking loudly and drawing attention from the whole store. It felt less like help and more like being made an example of. I went back to the counter a second time and tried to ask more specific questions. Same thing. At one point I straight up said "I'm not trying to waste your time." She eventually pointed me to something, I bought it, and got out of there. I get that this place has a great reputation and I'm sure a lot of that is deserved. But walking in as a beginner and leaving feeling humiliated is not okay. If you're new to ceramics and need actual help, just hope you don't get Jess.
