Sadly, I have to say that I cannot recommend Bay State Home Services. When they were installing my roof, I noticed that the gutter guards were missed going from the original paperwork to the official one. I texted them and they remembered agreeing to the gutters and said that they would do them. There were times when he didn't realize who he was talking to and I got the impression there were many on the hook that he had scammed. He lied about permit issues so I went to city hall, he never applied. He finally bailed on the project. I've been chasing after my deposit for weeks as he came up with new excuses for not delivering. My parents used Bay State for removal of black mold in their basement. They had one young man come to do the entire job. We are still waiting for them to take away the pile of removed pieces of basement from our backyard. And although they said they would email a 3 year guarantee certificate, we are still waiting. My wife and I had to check on the siding every day. We went out and saw a side that was not straight so we asked for it to be removed and reinstalled which the workers did. The back was done horrible and again asked the siding to be removed and reinstalled correctly. That was 4 years ago. Then Sal charged us $1000 more than the contract because we asked not to install 2 bathroom windows. He said if we didn't pay he would put a lien on the house. Recently we wanted to have the storm windows in the front replaced BUT the screws for the storm windows are covered by the vynal siding. I called Sal twice last week asking for a reply, as of yet there has been not reply back to me. I downloaded pictures of 3 windows but there are 6 windows in total. They came and quoted us $35,000 for an asbestos shingle and residing job. I asked multiple times about their qualifications to do it, and they said that they had done it before and would work with a company to have it done according to code. They took our deposit and then waited months. They clearly didn't purchase the materials at the time, because they then started trying to renegotiate as time came closer. They told us that they would start the last week of July 2022 and said we needed to be out of the house. We planned a vacation for a week. As we are coming back, they call to tell us that they didn't do anything and would be there the next week. So we scrambled to find a place to stay for another week. This pattern repeated for a month. Finally, they say that they are ready to start. They finally came, so again, we left town. Before they would start they wanted the second of three payments. We are driving back and I get a call from Environmental Protection because they have been informed that they have been called because the team that was taking off the asbestos was not doing it correctly. Come to find out, NO they did not bring in an asbestos removal company, nor did they file any of the permits. Enviormental protection shut down the site after testing, because they had contaminated the surrounding area with asbestos. We have two small children who would have been playing in that if it hadn't been caught. At first, they took full responsibility, then the state said they were going after them and BSE decided that they shouldn't have to pay for the cleanup of their mess. So they just stopped responding to everyone, including the DEP. I had to sign a contract with the environmental clean-up company that I would pay if BSE didn't. At this point, we have been out of our house for 3 months. BSE left us with the bill and the environmental clean-up company is still hounding us to finish paying them. We were paying for a lot of hotels because our larger family only had so much availability and the DEP still had our house as a hazard zone. At this point, we had paid BSE $23k, had promised to pay $12k for the cleanup, spent atleast $10k in out-of-house accomidation, and we still couldn't move home, let alone have siding . BSE left our house in a state that was not weather-resistant. We were lucky because there were old, broken, wooden shingles underneath so it was not completely at the mercy of the elements. But as you can see in some of the photos they uncovered holes into the house and left it that way with no cover. Now we had to find a new contractor and start the process all over again. As almost 10 months had gone by, and this was during the height of the supply-chain issues, the price for the same siding had shot way up. Now we had to take out a $29k loan to actually get siding on the house. We are currently in legal proceedings against them, but they ACTUALLY are based in NH our attorney thinks we will only get $10K back from the construction fraud fund. All of which we will have to use to pay off the clean-up company. Also when our attorney was trying to serve papers, he found out that their listed residence is fraudulent. They put the address of someone else in their town so that legal papers can't be served. Thankfully, the person has gotten sick of all of the legal papers being delivered to their house, they now call all attorneys and give them the correct address. I honestly don't know how much more despicable these people could be. In the end, I am glad that they didn't put the siding on, because the folks that we did have do it did a great job, which from the other reviews, BSE doesn't do. I wish we had just gone with Rhinoside from the beginning. David, the owner, was amazing. At one point, he even had some of his folks pull down and replace a WHOLE wall of siding because he wasn't satisfied, and he did it on Rhinoside's own dime. I wouldn't have known there was a problem for years most likely. Dave from Rhinoside even offered to install a new sliding glass door that BSE broke. He and two guys worked for hours to install it correctly and only charged $100 for labor. He even had me buy the door directly from the supplier to save money. Rhinoside is the hero here. read more

Nicholas was supposed to come by and inspect mold in my home yesterday at 3 p.m. He lets me know that he cannot make it, well past 3, and says he will be coming later in the evening. Again, well past when I expected him, no word. I called twice, and was not able to get ahold of him. Finally, I am informed he will not be making it and will be coming today from 5:30 to 6. Here I am, still waiting, and have not heard a single word from Nicholas or Bay State. Would never give this company your business or time. My 86 year old mother's house now has the flashing they "installed" while "installing" siding is now flapping in the wind causing her great distress as she has Alzheimer's. We gave a deposit of $400 in November 2018 for a small repair to our chimney flashing. I hire Bay State Exterior to do my Siding unfortunately I had Nicholas Salvatore who was very nice @ the beginning but all he cares about was getting his money not the customer's satisfaction. They were 5 weeks late from the day they should started without calling to let me know. When I called him he told me they are waiting for more supply. Everything was doing well the crew was nice & fast. I made a big mistake by leaving the last check even he was rushing me to do so telling me it was the last day they will be done. Since August 3rd,2021 they had their last payment. They left trash on my front yard The City gave me ticket for $40.00 now it's up to $50 they didn't put back anything like the lights mail boxes house ## the emergency door can't even open I called, send them, texted them some pictures, everything I could, but they ignored me. Finally they remove the the trash they broke one of my ring bell, they never fixed the emergency door. We thought the price was o k and signed a contract and deposited $3,000. to schedule and start the roof work. They never arrived to start the job. Beware! Called Bay State Exteriors after I saw them working on a house in my neighborhood. Sal returned my call quickly, came over made a good impression on us. He wrote up an estimate, we liked what we saw and contracted Bay State Exteriors for the work to be done in April. We wrote a deposit check $2000.00, that was cashed the next day. Quickly Sal made and broke appointments with us, ignored our phone calls and is just plan old hard to get in touch with. The work was to be completed in April, it was not, May, patiently waiting and giving the benefit of the doubt still no work done. By June we no longer want anything to do with this company and have ask for our deposit back. He cashed the check on April 10th bought no materials for our job and has not returned a cent back to us. Had my Tyngsboro, Mass house sided and all windows replaced for approx. $50K. I have a large window that is sitting on my porch that was never installed but paid for, garage lights that were all set at different heights and never corrected (paid for), a front door with a $2K deposit made in March 2022 that was never received or installed. Sal came last july 2020 signed contract to side our house included in contract was 3 doors, half moon, slider and 2 window. project didn't start until October 2020 just siding, slider and windows were completed. 3 installment payments first installment payment made, second payment made, 3rd payment was to be paid at completion of project Sal wanted more than half before doors were installed and now my house is half completed and it's now May 2021. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! We had some wind damage in December 2023 that we wanted addressed right away due to safety issues. Sal was quick to come out and give us an estimate. Said he could start the next week. Would send us a contract and he would need half $ up front sent Venmo. The $ was sent over via Venmo (don't EVER DO THAT- RED FLAG), was informed he couldn't make it out the next week because he had to order the product. 3 weeks go by and still nothing done. Weather was an issue a couple times, so that's understandable but there was no contact from Sal. We reached out and FINALLY Sal had one of his guys out there for a half day for maybe 4 hours and there was some product left to "finish" the job when they come back. That was sometime in Jan. CRICKETS SINCE THEN. Several text messages to Sal and No response! Lesson Learned- CHECK REFERENCE, DO NOT USE VENMO TO PAY, Get a contract signed by him before giving any money. This company is extremely unprofessional and does not do what they say they will. They did my mother's roof and were supposed to take all the trash away after the job was completed. They left 4-5 very large trash bags in her yard and never came back to get them after multiple calls and messages. I even called them (Sal) and he never returned my call either. Instead they left a bunch of huge trash bags in the front yard for a 75 year old Women to deal with. This guy Sal obviously has no integrity, and I would steer far away from doing business with this company. I tried to get a pool, decking and stairs installed. Called another of Joel Salvatore's companies Watercraft Pools. "Sal" gave a good pitch. Told me the job would be done early June (it was April). August came and still nothing. When I told him about my BBB complaint ( case 17697774) all of a sudden it's a different story except now they want more money up front with still no completion timeframe. Considering I spent 4 months chasing him and the pool company went defunct, and I've found several other customers who've been left hanging with installation or warranty problems I did not agree to the upfront payment. This wasn't the schedule he gave me at my home. Now they say I canceled. Funny how they didn't come and when I got sick of the lies now I'm in default. I wish I never met Joel Salvatore. I'll have to take him to court. I've learned a lot about him, found the many other companies he's been under. They all end the same. New company starts, consumers get ripped off, they complain and sometimes take them to court. Often the consumer is awarded a refund but then they don't pay. Eventually they lose their BBB accreditation and license. They get dropped from all home improvement sites due to complaints. Then open a new business under a similar name nearby. And it happens again. This is public information. Consumer beware Water Craft Pools and Spas from Billerica is now in NH and Watercraft Pools. Baystate Exterior had several names. Baystate in Massachusetts is a name people feel comfortable with. He's a seasoned scammer and has been doing this for years. Now there's Coast to Coast Roofah in Florida so they can prey on a new area. I found pages of information on the defunct companies, consumer complaints, lawsuits. Pay the extra money and use another company. After they did our roof they have had to come back twice to hang shingles that have fallen off. They didn't strip my old roof properly, they broke siding, didn't line shingles under our windows correctly and now we have more shingles hanging off and they won't call me back. I have to pay thousands to get my roof fixed correctly. I should have checked to BBB on these guys. Frank came out quickly for a very competitive estimate, was flexible with the days I wanted to start the job and sent his crew out on the day they promised. His son showed up to kick the job off and ensure they clearly understood the job. The workers on the roof worked non-stop until the job was done. During the job I'd called Frank with questions and concerns. He responded quickly. The yard was left in great shape when they left. I am not a huge fan of negative reviews but I gave Sal plenty of time to respond to my Wife (who was handing this project) and left a voice mail stating a review would be posted if we did not here back within 1 more week (has been 3 months already). If I knew communication was so bad I would have gone with a different company. The workers did great but had wrong materials/ design and inadequate resources to communicate with our needs causing the project to take longer. The final aspect of the home is not finished and Sal has not done anything to fix this issue. We have repeatedly tried to contact Sal by phone and Email but he has not responded. Luckily we did not pay upfront for his part of the service. We are planning several other projects and WILL NOT be using Baystate Exteriors due to this experience but anyone who falls for the Sal' s snake oil pitch is advised to firmly hold on to you CASH until the job is complete to their standards. read more
