Baystone landscaping does an outstanding job with pavers. Their stonework in our yard was beautiful. This business, however, really struggles with landscaping and yard maintenance. Here's what happened: 1. When we did our initial consultation for landscaping, no one took notes. This became a problem later when we had to repeat our requests, and several tasks weren't done. 2. Their workers could not distinguish between weeds and landscaped plants and bulbs, and consequently we had quite a few of our cultivated plants torn out. The owner later apologized to us, but no compensation or offer was extended. 3. Unclear communication. When we requested that our tree get topped off, which was a top priority for us, the owner promised us that he could do it. We even showed him the tree beforehand , and specifically asked if he could do the job. He agreed. He later reneged and said it was "too high and unsafe." He should've told us this at the outset so that we could hire someone else for the job.. Also, he switched prices on us and doubled his cost without explanation. He told us this only after my prompting. This should have been communicated at the outset. 4. When his team was doing stone work landscaping, he invited our neighbors and his family members into our yard without asking. I was sick at the time. Unacceptable. 5. Communication problems cont'd. When I would text him or ask him to specifically state what he planned to do, he would reply with one word responses like "landscaping,"or "yardwork." I should have seen this as a red flag, but after the work he did with us on the pavers, we were impressed and thought the same standard time to his landscaping business. It did not. In the future, it would help his business to clearly outline and take notes about each job. I recommend hiring him for stonework and pavers. I do not recommend this business for yard maintenance or landscaping. read more

We are very pleased with the professional landscaping backyard results performed by Bay Stone Landscaping @ our Castro Valley home. The project included removing a legacy brick patio and lawn area by laying down natural flagstone, all of which now offers a very organic look with earthy shades of rust, grays and greens. They also reinforced our existing tiered decking structure, replaced decayed deck steps and designed and constructed a new 12' x 12' Redwood Pergola and a parameter bench back seating area. The project was completed in two phases and took two months to complete. In summary Bay Stone Landscaping exceeded our expectations and below are a few additional comments as it relates to working with the Bay Stone Landscaping Team: DESIGN: Isidro Gonzales is a very talented landscape designer and owner. He took our initial thoughts and desires, combined it with his vision and experience and in doing so created a spectacular new Pergola and Flagstone landscape design for us (as referenced by the attached three pictures). BUDGET: Isidro Gonzales was very open and flexible throughout the setting and the establishment of our landscape budget which consisted of two phases (Flagstone and Pergola.) At the completion of the project, Isidro actually provided us with a significant project discount. CONSTRUCTION/ONSITE TEAMS: Isidro's overall work professional work team are phenomenally skilled in all what they do. These workers have all worked for Isidro's company for years and it showed in how effectively and efficiently they all performed within their specific roles. I also want to mention all of the terrific carpentry work Jesús did in building our Pergola and new parameter back seating area; his meticulous detail to construction perfection was amazing. Furthermore, all of the Teams leave your property completely organized and immensely clean on a daily basis. Ivan and the Bay Stone team are fantastic. He is reliable, communicative, thoughtful, and experienced. Ivan had an understanding of our vision and provided direction as well. Easy to work with and hard working Ivan is trustworthy and followed through completely with the plan and went overboard to make sure we were happy with the yard. Our stone patio is intricate, tasteful and beautifully fits together like a puzzle. The grass is great and we even got an upgrade on our irrigation. The raised beds look great and the retaining wall is sturdy and foundation is deep. We also got a side pathway done with leftover stones and gravel. Ivan is a great guy who's work speaks for itself but he is always available to talk and give professional expertise. He knows everything about landscaping. Back in the 50's rebar was not used in driveways and, as a result, ours was badly cracked and separated. Getting the house ready for sale meant having it look good from the street. Isidro did our backyard remodel. We needed 50x15 ft cleared, leveled, plumbed and concrete poured. Our backyard was a disaster. Smallish, packed with bramble, a temporary fence and entrenched old fence. It seems previous residents had used the property as a dump and there was a lot of material in the earth that needed to be removed when it was leveled. Isidro and his team pulled out everything, leveled and hauled the dirt and built an incredible fence of my choosing: corrugated metal and redwood. He poured a beautiful concrete slab and dug the ditches for the plumbing for a gas fireplace and hot and cold water plumbing. He provided us with a plumber when we couldn't find anyone last minute. Isidro did an excellent job and presented a very competitive price. The substantial work was done in under a week. He went above and beyond, making sure we were completely satisfied with the work. He came back weeks later to over see the installation of our fireplace by someone he recommended. I highly recommend Isidro. He is polite, competitively priced, follows through and completes the work on schedule, he goes above and beyond for his customers. read more

We had an ugly broken and cracked concrete slaps for a patio that was both an eye sore, and a trip hazard. We started looking around and contacting different contractors around the area, and we got quotes that were all above our budget. So, on a slow day, I looked at Yelp for other options, and found Isidro with reviews that sounded genuine to me. I contacted Isidro, and he immediately picked up, and came to look at the job that evening (on time). He gave me a very fair price for both me and him- I believe. I just got a good feel for him, and agreed to hire him without references or anything. Isidro started the day we wanted him to start,and finished up the job half a day before he promised to finish. He had 2- 3 guys working at the same time everyday including Sunday, and all of them were absolutely great, and very hard working. He came daily to supervise them for a short time, and they worked as hard after he left as they were when he was here. They removed our old concrete that turned out to be thicker than we originally thought, they didn't cause any damage to any of the water or sewer pipes under the patio- which we were pretty worried about. They then laid some gravel, and sand before tiling our patio. That was a complicated job, as they had to work around a large planter with an irregular shape, cut out around the sewer hatch, the water main, and a sticking out electricity grounding rod. They also removed some metal stairs, and put them back on after tiling, worked with our sloped patio and made the slope level with everything it should be level with. They did a flawless job! All of this was at the lowest quote we had for the same exact job (we got 6 quotes including Isidro's, and he quoted us about 20% lower than the next lowest quote). I wish I can give Isidro more than 5 stars. read more

Isidro Gonzales and his workmen took down our rotten deck and built a fabulous redwood deck for us this summer for our daughter's wedding. His men also added a landing and railing to redwood steps he had built previously which now connect to a second deck, and he re-configured the area in front of our front porch so that the stepping stones are stable and safe for walking. They put redwood chips in a couple different areas to make them much more attractive. They also replaced two very uneven, unsafe step areas in the front yard with strong, level steps using railroad ties and flat stones. They took material to the dump for us and cleaned up well after themselves. The price was very reasonable, and the men worked quickly, as we were under a deadline. Everything was completed in about 3 weeks, including all the staining of the deck and stair landing, replacing an outdoor light fixture in front, and installing an outdoor wall light. They also placed and secured railroad ties to border planted areas and put up a wire fence to keep our neighbor's chickens out of our yard. The main person Isidro had working on our job was excellent -- he worked hard, was able to solve problems and figure out the best way to do something, and was responsive to what we needed. He didn't speak much English, so Isidro translated when my Spanish/English wasn't enough. Although he is not a licensed contractor, I would not hesitate to recommend him and his foreman for any deck, yard, or outdoor project. read more
