He's great with communication, and his estimate was right on point. I had some drainage work done at my house which trashed my entire irrigation system, so I needed to have it replaced, both in the front and back yard. The McKay crew did a bang up job of it. They came in on time and on budget. They had the whole system laid out and running within about two days. Then Sherman spent some time with me to make sure I knew how to operate the controllers. In fact, they do more than irrigation, and I will likely have them come back and put in some new plants and do some other work in my backyard. They did such a good job with the irrigation system that I have high confidence they will make quick work of the other jobs too. I strongly recommend them.

It's a basic system with just one controller and 5 valves. Despite this I agreed because of the reviews here and because it would be for the following day at 1 pm. The day of our appointment a couple hours prior, Alex texted me asking if he could come earlier than scheduled. I told him that I wasn't able to make it then, and he responded that it was fine and he would see me at 1. I drove 30 minutes to meet Alex at our agreed upon time, and waited 15 minutes waiting for him to show up. He didn't, so I texted him again to see what his eta was. He then informed he wasn't coming, and had an emergency to take care of. Given the prior conversation with him, I'm not entirely convinced of this "emergency ", especially because he still offered to come in the morning the following day. Had he called me when he knew he wouldn't be able to make it, I might be more forgiving, but he wasted my time.

We ended up with a flooded garage and basically a mini-lake forming around the house. It was a mess! I called Muneer from Intuitive Landscaping, and he was absolutely incredible. He was literally about to head off on a trip, but he dropped everything to come over and help us out. He even called in Victor, who came in on his day off to replace the sump pump, get all the water out, and just take care of the entire situation for us. Honestly, it's so rare to find a company that genuinely cares this much about their customers. I just want to say a big thank you to the whole Intuitive Landscaping team. If anyone needs any landscaping or outdoor work done, I can't recommend them enough!

He gave me a very reasonable quote which he honored, and we got it scheduled. A few days later, his team came out and worked their tails off for a solid week. The results are amazing. They installed a lawn where there used to be gravel, built a new gate to the side yard, installed transformers to run low-voltage nights automatically when it's dark, and redid a lot of the irrigation. The yard looks so much better, and I'm looking forward to spending the summer out in it. I highly recommend Oscar and his team!

I wrote them back within an hour or two to confirm. Nothing. Wrote them again on the day they were supposed to show up and they said they can't come to the appointment and offered appointments I couldn't do. These people really need to get better at communication and customer service.

I moved into my current home in 2022 - it had an existing irrigation system but I quickly realized…read morethat it was not in a usable state and for the first summer of living in my home spent hours a week watering plants and grass using a nose. In 2023 I vowed to myself that I would have a functioning irrigation system by the end of the rainy season/start of summer. I reached out and started getting quotes - one of them was from Green Sunsets (Daniel). He was prompt when he came by for the quote and it was clear that he had extensive knowledge of planning and setting up irrigation systems. He ended up quoting me for a). a new system vs. b). going in and troubleshooting the existing system which I appreciated. His quote was reasonable and he was patient and thorough with me when I had a few followup questions - I ended up moving forward with Daniel to do the work. He was able to get me on his calendar pretty quickly and the whole job ended up taking about 3-4 days. Daniel had a team of workers to help him - his team was hard working and I appreciate that Daniel was also present for all of the days and directly checked the new system as it was installed to verify that everyting was set up correctly. In addition to the irrigation work, my yard was also very overgrown - Daniel and his team also did great work for me at the same time in removing a broken trellis, removing pesky vines, and pulling out a bunch of overgrown plants and bushes. Fast forward one year to spring 2024. After the rainy season ended (and irrigation system needed to be used) I noticed that there were a few breaks/leaks in the tubing/lines. I reached out to Daniel to ask about and he came by to my home. My initial thought was that either thirsty squirrels or our gardener had broken a few of the lines. Daniel assessed and came to the same conclusion, but since it was a fairly small task offered to help fix at no charge (even though the leaks were caused by our gardener). Daniel's work left me as a very happy customer and I am happy to recommend Green Sunsets.

I'm not sure if I bought a piece of irrigation for my neighbor to fix my system or what. But I asked the man at the desk if he had a list of irrigation specialists. I knew my neighbor was retiring and was in a small panic. The man at the desk pulled out a sheet of paper with names and phone numbers and I got some names. So the next time I needed some help was in the winter during the pandemic and I don't think we ever connected. Now it's way past the pandemic lockdown and my irrigation system was not working and I called my retired neighbor who once again said "call Irrigation equipment company". I did and I bet it was the same guy at the desk and things started to click in my memory and I called the first name given and get this, the first name was one of the two I called years ago and he still had my number in his contact list!!! This time Bruce Sutorius actually came out and fixed and checked my system, clearly at ease and competent. The whole experience was wonderful and sweet starting years ago and there is alot of comfort in knowing this little low key place is still there, I bet it's the same guy at the desk with his list and every thing fell into place. How good is that!?!

I was contacted to a second meeting to verify some things that were not clear from my diagram. The second meeting, the rep was about 30 minutes, late it seemed because of a mix up in scheduling. He apologized for it, and we went on about the walk-through. He had good solutions for my problems that were consistent with what other contractors had already told me. We ultimately decided with another contractor because of a difference in price of about 2-5%. If you have a landscape or irrigation project or issue, I would recommend meeting with them.

TL;DR --- Work quality = 5; Cost\Value = 2; Availability = 3…read more Started using Bay Area Sprinkler back when the original owner still had the company. They were always booked - which is a good sign - but that meant it was challenging to get them on the schedule. But when available, they did great work at reasonable rates. Eventually, the company was sold and the new owner changed the business model a bit. The initial bids were the same - basically truck roll fee + labor with materials to be billed after job completion. The big difference was they no longer provided itemized material costing and the materials markup was much higher than other irrigation vendors we've used. In addition, this change was not noticed before the job was completed and they refused to itemize despite multiple requests. Again, they've always done great work for us and if not concerned with paying a significant markup for materials, then possibly a good fit for you.

Ease of quoting process Before coming out in person, they were able to give us a ballpark price based on dimensions, fence type, and site images. This allowed me to decide whether to move forward and I thought this was really respectful of my time. Then, Dago, the owner, came for the site visit and to discuss details. 2. No bait and switch In ironing out the details, there was some miscommunication about whether staining was included. Dago was able to meet us halfway with the price increase. This honest business style continued throughout the project and no change orders or unexpected price increases happened. 3. Detail oriented Throughout the project, we discussed details such as fence posts placement relative to tree roots, post height, etc. Dago was both available in person and by email via his assistant Maria. It was also nice to have responses confirmed in writing so that things were clear and there would be no bait and switch. 4. Personality Dago is a really nice person and I enjoy speaking with his about his geriatric dogs, etc. This also helped me not feel anxious about the project, because I felt that I could trust him. For this fence, we received multiple quotes. Two companies were in the $9-10K range, another was around $12K, and an outlier was above $20K. Dago's price was the lowest quote (with minute differences in material) and we are very glad we went with him!

I also used his service to purchase and deliver plants, and have him onsite to place the materials. This service alone is worth every penny; he moved plants and boulders around to the best aesthetic. After everything was complete, he came back for some fine-tuning and recommendations for my gardener. To save money I had my gardener do the installation but really wish I'd had the budget for a more extensive job done by one of Tyler's more experienced contractors. Robert provides detailed cost analysis and provides updates as issues come up. He offers several solutions to any problem, depending on your budget for the work. The work the crew does is high quality and they obviously take pride in their work. We had Robert and his crew replace sagging retaining walls, build a new gate, install new planting beds, gravel, flagstones, irrigation, new plants, and mulch. The crew easily handled our steep hillside and flat areas as each terrain required. Bob Cruikshank has done several projects for us through the past 12 years. We would never use any other landscaper. He is professional and his work is exceptional. He listens to you. Robert has done two different major landscaping projects for us. Both turned out beautifully. The last project was our front yard in Orinda. He had to terrace and build retaining walls, he created a new front porch paved area, a number of planting areas, and planted over a hundred succulents and other drought resistant plants. He also installed a large fountain, installed irrigation, and created new and lovely fencing. He is extremely professional and reliable. You simply cannot find a better contractor. On the day of the appointment, I waited for him, but there was no call or show. Three hours later, I reached out for an explanation. He finally replied by text, stating that his truck was having trouble and that he was also feeling sick. As a result, I had to go with a different contractor for my project. Buyers, beware!

He is great to work with -- collaborative, professional, responsive, and flat out a really nice guy. This was a huge project with many twists and turns along the way -- months of heavy rain, giant tree roots in unexpected places, faulty irrigation valves, on and on. Henry always persevered and figured out a way through. When we made changes I never felt nickel and dimed. And it truly felt like he had our best interests in mind. What a massive change of pace from other contractors who seem to be primarily concerned with closing out a project (despite open issues) so they can move on to other things. The end result of the project is beautiful. The pricing seemed very fair, especially compared to other companies around the area. Overall, high marks to these guys. Definitely give them a look.

I almost never leave feedback, especially when negative because I am always willing to give a…read moresecond chance, but, in this particular case, I feel like I would like to provide one that hopefully will be useful to people starting a landscape contracting project. We contacted Henry about a month ago to receive a quote for a full yard remodel including a large paved area on the side of the house and the back as well as a front yard with an outdoor kitchen. Henry came to our home and we described in great detail the scope of every single portion of the work. There were a few things that we had not yet 100% decided and decided to gather Henry's recommendation for these. Henry arrived and took measurements and returned with a quote that was very generic and lacking many of the items we had discussed. Interestingly though, the quote clearly stated that anything NOT included in the quote had to be considered a work change and that a difference will be billed... Since many of the things we discussed together were not in the quote, we asked for clarification and he immediately replied mentioning that (with very few exceptions) the majority of the items we had inquired about were also included, just not listed. When we asked to revise the quote and include these in writing we started receiving a few emails mentioning that wood was expensive and that he needed to add some more amount for some unforeseen possible roots under the area where we wanted to place pavers and the quote started skyrocketing without reason. When we voiced that he had mentioned that these items were included, he replied saying that we made great points and that he would send a revised quote asap including all the scope of work. We wondered if we had not been clear with him, so we went out of our way to generate a sketch-up 3D rendering of the space we wanted to make sure that there was no misunderstanding. We were asked to wait a few days more to have a final quote, then no more answers. When we inquired again, we were told by Henry that after some more consideration he had decided not to take our job. Seriously? So we now have a great 3D rendering of the space that we want but we will need to restart looking for a (BUT this time serious and conscientious) person able to create it. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, unless you are willing to take a bet and have several items added after the fact as a work change.

On August 18th, Paul came out to look at the work I needed done: a repair and rebuild of a decomposed granite path that had eroded in my backyard. He took measurements and we discussed the details of the work to be performed. By August 21st, I had not yet received a quote, so I reached out to Michelle in their office. SIX DAYS LATER, on August 27th, I was copied on an email from Michelle to Paul requesting the info from the site visit so that she could prepare a quote. I received a quote the following day, Aug 28th, signed it and sent it back the next day. Expecting to be notified that they had received my signed bid and to schedule the work, I was annoyed that I had to reach out to THEM on Sept 4th for an update. I HEARD NOTHING IN RESPONSE! So, I pinged them again on Sept 12th. This time, I received a reply apologizing for the delay and some BS about a new scheduling system. I was told that my job was added to the work list, and that the team had been notified asking for an estimated start date. Here we are, two weeks later, and I have heard absolutely NOTHING from them!! I am forced now to start the process over and find another contractor to do the work. ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC customer service. The lack of communication is inexcusable!!!

Of the other two appointment, one of them did not even send me a proposal after promising me he would. I wanted to have a few proposals before I choose a company so I called a few more. I ended up going with Bay Area Greenscapes and I could not be happier. They were on time to the initial appointment, and Wayne spent a lot of time explaining the process. I was not sure what I wanted but Wayne had some great ideas and was an enormous help. The proposal was timely and was easy to read. They showed up when they said they would and my yard is now the talk of my street. These guys were so courteous and left my job clean everyday. I would highly recommend Bay Area Greenscapes.

There was another guy who was good, Aaron, who oversaw my biweekly mowing etc. In the past few years, I've had a couple issues. Mainly dying plants due to not being pruned correctly. I would call or email to correct the situation. The one plant species I told them not to touch were my roses. I didn't have faith in their work. Honestly, I should've let them go a year ago. I knew that. Aaron sold his business, and I thought I'd give them a try. Until today.... I came home to my beautiful, and very expensive, roses completely hacked. They were my favorite part of the yard, growing through the white picket fence with the most beautiful blooms. Not anymore. I watched our security cameras and the way they just completely did a hack job on them. My favorite part of my home is now ruined. Don't hire them for anything other than mowing a yard.

After several attempts at getting bids for some repairs (some places never even…read morecalled me back or replied!), Greentech replied and came by the next day to evaluate and give me a price on some irrigation repair. Price was reasonable vs the only 1 other bid I received; and Aaron seemed to know what needed to be done. They arrived the next morning and did the repair in a couple of hours. We additionally had some leaky valves I decided to see if he was able to replace - He replaced them that afternoon with higher quality valves. We did have 1 issue several days later with 1 of the new valves leaking. We never pressure tested them the day they were replaced due to the fresh glued joints. So this was first time stressing them. I reported the leak and he arrived the next day and addressed the issue (it was a faulty valve). All fixed and working perfectly. Aaron is awesome & very knowledgeable. They provide an excellent Warranty. And their pricing is very reasonable & competitive. I highly recommend this place for your Irrigation & Landscaping needs.

After three years of living with a backyard full of weeds and gopher holes, we finally decided to…read moregive up the hope of running into the "Yard Crashers" crew at our local home improvement store. We interviewed nearly ten potential landscape contractors for our backyard project. Segundo Collazos, the owner of Amazon's Landscaping, was recommended by a good friend who had hired Segundo and his crew to install irrigation and a flagstone pathway. When Segundo came out to discuss our project, he demonstrated that he has the benefit of many years of construction experience, doing both small and large projects. Our project was a moderately large residential project which involved extensive re-grading of the yard, installation of a French drain alongside the back of the house, construction of a retaining wall along a steep slope, installation and compaction of patio surfaces made of a mix of decomposed granite mixed with mortar, construction of a pergola, extensive irrigation installation, and replacement of a dead patch of lawn. Segundo showed us pictures of work he has done for private homes and for public areas such as some schools in Berkeley. The pictures showed a good attention to detail and his prices were competitive, plus we both had a good feeling about his level of professionalism, so we hired him. We have been very pleased with our decision to hire him for the following reasons... 1) He and his crew take pride in their work. Throughout the duration of the work, they did not take shortcuts. They included all materials and finishes that were agreed upon when we negotiated the work to be done. The quality of their work is very good. 2) When there was a need to make modifications, Segundo showed an ability to think creatively given our budget. For example, we have very high winds and the decomposed granite (DG) he put down as a patio surface was not staying in place initially. As a relatively loose material, it was also attaching to our shoes and tracking into the house, which would have been an annoying issue to deal with over the long term. For a minimal amount of additional expense, Segundo resolved the problem by digging up the patio again, mixing the DG with mortar, and re-compacting it. 3) It is often true that things take somewhat longer than expected with construction projects. In this case, there were two things that required some additional work. The first was the problem with the decomposed granite (DG) being too loose given the strong winds where we live. The second was the presence of large tree roots that were uncovered as he was re-grading the backyard. (We had paid a lot of money to two different tree and root removal companies in the past to remove all the roots from a big tree that used to be in the yard, and clearly in both cases, despite assurances that they had each removed all the roots within one foot of the surface, they did not do the job right). Segundo never complained about having to put in additional work - he showed professionalism and commitment to working on both issues until the problems were resolved. He removed the tree roots that needed to come out to get the surfaces level and he made the patio surface much stronger by mixing the DG with mortar. 4) Segundo has an extensive understanding of various plants and he actually cultivates many beautiful plants such as queen palms, sago palms, a variety of aromatic shrubs, and Japanese maples in his own backyard. He made good recommendations about plants that could work well for our space. He was flexible and took into account our preferences and needs in doing the initial planting of parts of the yard and generously included a gift of three of his own plants that we liked. He installed drip lines to each and every plant and tree that he put in the ground so that they will grow well when set to be watered by an automatic sprinkler timer. 5) Despite some additional challenges that came up during the course of the project, in the end, Segundo came in reasonably close to the budget we agreed to in advance and he guarantees the quality of his work. We do not expect problems in the future given his commitment to doing things the right way the first time, but we know that if there are problems, he will address them. This is the longest review I've submitted to Yelp and in the spirit of letting others know about the best companies to hire, I was inspired to relay information about this consistently positive experience with Segundo Collazos of Amazon's Landscaping. We are also attaching some pictures of the work he did because a picture is worth a thousand words. During a time when many contractors take shortcuts or fail to honor one's budget, he is a real find.
