I had developed a decent understanding of color theory but was having difficulty figuring out the subjective part of which colors made me look better or worse. I saw how affordable her color parties were compared to individual color analysis and brought a friend up to the city for a girls' evening. As a neutral muted light-skinned Eastern European girl with an olive overtone, I had guessed that I would be soft summer or soft autumn. I was surprised to see a clear preference for light summer (and light spring in second place) during the draping session. I never would have guessed a light season since I always thought pastels washed me out, but it turns out they brighten and even my skin tone and make me look less tired and sallow. Goes to show how much more effective an in-person session is compared to virtual. I also loved watching her drape others. It was easier to be objective and see the difference on someone else vs yourself. My friend looks fantastic in her soft autumn drapes. The session included an overview of color theory as well as looking at different kinds of makeup and quizzing us on whether they were warm or cool shades. She also gave recommendations on which metallics for each of us to wear (eg for a formal dress but also jewelry) and we took home cards with our palettes and recommendations. I met her the following week where she had prepared a huge amount of tops, pants, jackets, and shoes for me to try on. I had a great time and kept most of the clothes. She is honest about what looks good on you and has the innate ability to understand when you know you just don't love something and we put it back. It's classy, sexy, and suits me perfectly. During the 2 months in which we had fittings I lost 25 pounds, and Sheri was able to make the end product a perfect fit in spite of my changing shape. Dark Garden is a great off-the-rack storefront, and Stormy Leather makes fun fetish outfits... but for a custom corset Sheri is the best. She's about half the price of Dark Garden and a LOT more attention to you personally. Her work is exquisite. The other students were fabulous company, and I can't say enough great things about May as an artist, teacher, and facilitator. She is so friendly and warm. She had beautiful materials. She provided excellent guidance and suggestions when needed. And she knew just what we needed to keep the flow of the class. We got to do the fun stuff, selecting, cutting, and arranging materials, while she punched holes, added jump rings, and earring hooks. We all were able to make several beautiful sets of earrings to keep or gift. They looked amazing. It was wonderful to be creative and focused for a few hours. I LOVE to craft, but sometimes you want to experiment without purchasing all the tools and materials necessary to complete a project. This workshop was the perfect example of a class that allowed me to be completely creative without having to worry about purchasing materials and tools, learning about using those materials and tools, and then storing those materials and tools indefinitely in my garage (adding to my husband's great sadness over the state of our garage).
