Today we had three foursomes. The first tee time was at 9am. The starter Frank asked for receipts. No problem. He took time to give us a heads up on hole 3 - blind spot after your drive. On second hit; hit it left of the bunker. And hole 14 - hit it to the right rather than left. That's how I remember it anyway. He also said to stay out of the environment controlled areas marked with red poles with green tops. The greens are fast. And undulated. Very challenging. The fairways are wide. Lots of barrancas as the course is a links course. We finished in 4 1/2 hours. Golf carts aren't allowed in the parking lot. read more

This place is horrible. I heard horror stories about it, but I had to experience it myself--and they did not disappoint. The starter was rude. The marshal came up and made us skip a hole when there was nobody behind us for another hole and a half, saying we were holding up the course. Also rude, and didn't even try to offer any kind of refund or let us go back and play the hole after. We finished in 4 hours and 15 minutes--which in the Bay Area is great pace of play. I used to hold this course in very high regard, easily one of my favorite courses in the South Bay. Unfortunately, my last few visits have been disappointing due to repeated issues with the course marshal. On multiple occasions, my group was rushed despite keeping pace of play. We were on track for roughly 4 hours and 15 minutes, which aligns with the course's stated average of 4 hours and 20 minutes, as confirmed by the manager. Even so, the marshal repeatedly pushed our group to speed up when there was no gap in front of us. To make matters worse, we were also restricted to only two carts for a foursome. If the concern is pace of play, limiting carts actually works against that goal. I could understand the restriction if groups weren't being rushed, but being hurried while also being limited in mobility makes no sense. We paid full price like everyone else and played responsibly. We also play competitively within our group, which means we finish holes properly while still maintaining pace. As long as a group is keeping up with the course pace, there should be no reason to be pressured or rushed. This was a frustrating experience, which is unfortunate because I've always enjoyed this course. I do hope management addresses this, as I plan on coming back, but this last round was simply too much. read more

This is a great course. People were super friendly. However, I wasn't notified that the greens had been aerated and they were topped with sand. Lame. The one reason I will never play this course is that they have a Donald Trump head cover predominantly displayed complete with a MAGA sign. Clearly Troon supports this criminal and I'll have no part of it. Politics do not belong on a course or pro shop. You just lost someone who really liked your course because of your support for this criminal. Shame on you. read more

Baylands is a fun course with some challenging holes. The course is well maintained and managed, providing a great golf experience.

Excellent greens! Putts roll true and very fast. No sand in bunkers cause you to bottom out on rock though. Nice driving range, too. This track is very windy and has lots of environmental hazards, so keep out. As such, local knowledge is a big help here. Two-club wind is not uncommon and balls can roll through the fairway and into the environmental areas. Beware! read more

First, @management please renew your website hosting because the website is down! I got to play before the website went down and overall was impressed with the course. It's a beautiful layout with fluffy bunkers, diversity of grasses, and holes that make you think about course management. Not every shot off the tee is a driver shot, especially in the 18 mph afternoon winds I played in (think gusty). Greens were also in fantastic condition and are firm and fast. Definitely think about aiming for the front of the green and letting the ball roll on - it's a links course after all. Will definitely be coming back! Honestly the minus 1-1.5 stars is due to the lack of an on course marshal to tell the group behind us to relax (we were definitely on pace and actually finished in 4 hr 15 min), the insane winds that made the round a bit difficult, the website not being up right now, and some lack of clarity on certain holes where the green was - I aimed for the wrong green on a few holes. read more

A windy links style course. I can only offer my perspective on the front line, but it starts off pretty tough. A par five with the wind blowing right in your face! The greens were pretty tricky with some pretty substantial elevation changes along them when I played, the greens were freshly aerated, but that's not the reason I shot poorly . Attended a workshop with 3 stations (Putting/Range/Chipping) with amazing instructors. Had a wonderful time learning how to play for the first time. Beautiful facilities. From what I was told, prices for the range seemed to be reasonable, if not affordable. In addition, the weather's always beautiful in Palo Alto. This course has really gone downhill. On the first hole, the fairways are lush and very nice, but as you go through the course, you see that the course has become troubled with the gopher holes, inconsistent bunkers filled with either mud or sand dunes, which are deep and difficult to get out of, and huge patches of bear dirt. The tee boxes are also very inconsistent some of which the grass is very long and very far from smooth. The greens were consistent. But here's the worst part, Palo Alto, which is a liberal bastion has deemed that anywhere off the fairway is a sensitive environmental area. The starter takes it upon themselves to threaten you before you round. If you go in this sensitive environmental area you're subject to being kicked off the course. The only other interaction I had with course staff was on the back nine at a par five where I pulled the cart off the cart path onto the grass. I was chastised for being too close to the Green. The cart was actually parked 5 yards from the green, and 2 feet from the car path. I do this so others can drive by if they need. The round cost $120 for 18 holes, a cart, and a small bucket of balls. Really not even close to worth it. read more

The last time I played this course was a year before the pandemic. Many years before that I used to play this course with coworkers after work on Fridays in the summer months. This was well before the remodelling of the course to the one today. I must say the fairways and greens have improved a lot. The course is kept in very good condition. My only complaint is the high price of the green fees to play this course. It used to be owned by the city of Palo Alto but I am not sure who runs it now. The winds from the bay really pick up in the early afternoon and can add to the challenge of playing this course. Hopefully I will have another opportunity to play here some day. read more

This course has a lot of challenging par 4's and 5's! Plus you'll have to fight the winds here. The course is fairly open and flat but some holes do have a few small hills. Greens are conservative. It's very easy to read putts here but no guarantee you'll make every birdie or par attempt! I came here around 3pm on Saturday and didn't finish until 750 or so. Could have been faster but the group in front had 3 or so beginners. The course is tough but definitely doable for beginners! It's a pretty long 18. I felt like some of the par 5's were a mile long! The course is walkable! I had a push cart and did fine. Clubhouse and bar were nice. Wish they had some grab and go beer and snacks. That would have been more convenient. The range was in great shape! The putting green is an exaggeration of the real greens on the course. Practicing before your round would be ideal! And last but not least, there is ample parking! read more

Fun layout (links style, open fairways), decent conditions, interesting greens that run quick. Wish I could say I loved it but I couldn't finish 18 holes at a 12:10PM tee time... no Marshall in sight even with multiple calls to the pro shop. The pace of play is absurd. We averaged over 20 minutes per hole which was over a 6 hour round. In all my years of golf I've never had that lengthy of a non finished round. I've played Troon managed courses in multiple states. My favorite being Ak-Chin Southern Dunes in Maricopa in Arizona. The longest round I have ever played there was 4 hours 24 minutes. At tee box #2 today, I noticed the group in front of us was still waiting to tee off. I called the pro shop to inform them and nothing was done. Notice my photos of said backup. I'd expected a tee time of 12:10PM to be able to finish by latest 5:10PM to get a full 18 in with the sun setting at 4:50PM. For the price of this course and rate I played, it's ridiculous. I will never be back and plan on informing others. I expect more from Troon. My advice if you want to play 18: Tee off latest 11AM. I'd be more than willing to give them another shot if they offered me a discounted round given I never finished the first round! read more

This review is for the restaurant. I use these facilities as a bike rider, not a golfer. The views are nice from the outdoor patio, but the patio is lacking in elegance especially compared to Michael's at shoreline. I did not like the plastic fork I was given for my quesadilla. The others were given metal flatware. The head waiter needs to be a bit more gentle and respectful. We were attempting to pull our bikes along the inside of the wall surrounding the patio and he came out speaking in a very raised voice and pointing. All he needed to do was to walk the 6 feet over too us and tell us where to park the bikes. The bike rack is not immediately visible when you ride up to the patio and we were happy to find it. The Cobb salad was spectacular, one of the best I have ever had. And the quesadilla was also delicious with ample guacamole, salsa and sour cream. We will definitely eat there again. The head waiter calmed down and afterward was very friendly and attentive. read more

6 hour pace of play. Stepped in a pile of sludge on 14th hole. Not mud but an inky sludge that ruined my shoes (stained black, looks like ink) and was not easy to wash off my hands. Called the pro shop and they knew exactly what I was talking about and shrugged it off saying "yeah we don't know what that stuff is". Then clean it up if you're aware of it! read more

I was looking forward to an early morning round at Baylands. Tee time 8:20 3/24/25. First of all the fairways are in awful condition they are extremely hard with lots of dirt spots and not a lot of nice lies and not a lot of nice grass. The greens are okay, but they are quite firm and hard to hold with lots of undulation. I bought their links card to get a better rate, but still at $72 for the walking rate the course is poor value. To add insult to injury we were harassed by the marshall on the 9th hole tee box. He told us we needed to speed up to catch the group in front. He said we needed to complete the front 9 in 2 hrs or less, which we were on schedule to do. The group behind never got close to us and was at least a hole behind us. We finished the 9 in less than 2 hrs. We played the back 9 in one hour 40 minutes, and we never saw anyone get close to catching us, so I'm not sure what the marshall was doing about that. Overall a disappointing day, made worse by an overreaching marshall. read more

The course is good in shape and the green is under well maintenance, indeed a fair good rate to play, but since it's overall a public course, things can mess up easily especially more and more people are coming during the COVID-19. They started to randomly combine you with different people to play the same tee time, and the staff service attitude is questionable, for example, if you are several mins late for your tee time or even right on the time, they kick you out of the tee because you have to arrive several mins early, and the money is not refundable, and another time when I practice in the range and trying to pick up some balls really near me, someone comes out from the office and starts yelling at me, asking me to leave the course because I don't pay those range balls money... I mean just be prepared to those overreactions coming from the staff, not sure why but they get angry very easily from trivial no big deal things, as an old customer who comes to the course several times a week, I sincerely hope they can improve the customer experience, at least not yelling at customers, sigh. read more

one star because of the ridiculous price vs. value. $100 for a round here is way out of whack. at half the price it could be 2 stars. at half the price with actual fairways and clean tee boxes it could be 3 stars The old PA muni course was basically my home course because I used to live close by and it had great rates and friendly staff. it was flat and not difficult but still a fun round. this multi-year, multi-million dollar renovation has made the course worse, not better. it's not as flat but just as uninspiring as mentioned, horrible drainage. pretty much all the fairways were wet and muddy, some were just muddy, no grass they took out so many trees that it was really hard to see the outline of the hole, especially since there was no way of seeing the difference between the mud in the fairway and the mud off the fairway. at least in the old layout, the trees lining the course helped define the hole. there is more than one hole where it's really difficult to see the green after a good tee shot. there were a few times we had to drive up the fairway just to know where to put the next shot tee boxes not trimmed and full of thick weeds very few benches for sitting at the tee, which sucked because there was a backup on the day we played and we often had to wait to tee off the greens were in good shape but weirdly designed. there's a difference between a challenging putt and something that should be expected at mini-golf. sometimes it felt like you were putting up or down a 45 degree angle. there were a few single-digit handicappers in our group who had many 3 putts (at least one 4 put!). that's the fault of the design, not a reflection on their ability read more

Somewhat overpriced and you're not allowed to book as a single golfer unless another group has space then the remaining spot opens. Great practice facility which tends to be very busy throughout the day. I like how there's a mix of culture and age groups. Plenty of parking. They have a cafe for a quick meal. 11/24/20- Tee time was at 1pm, course was full but if groups moved accordingly you could finish in 4hrs. Didn't happen today. Bunch of lpga/pga wannabes. Only completed 15holes as it go too dark. No Marshall to be found smh. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape but what ruined everything was their greens. They were micro plugged and sanded. Although the greens were somewhat fast there were a lot of debris and sand everywhere. My new Scotty Cameron was full of scratches. read more

I think they did a good job of transforming the old muni into what is there now. The one issue, and it is very annoying, is often not knowing the yardage to the green. Most sprinkle heads, when you can find one, do not have the yardage. At least put in the normal yardage posts that almost every golf course has; blue/200 yards, white/150 yards, red/100 yards. This way you have some reference. I probably will not go back until they mark the yardage better. It's too frustrating! read more

I would think a new course wouldn't have that problem but a few days of rain and the entire course is mushy. The once beautiful fairways have become brown, beat up and muddy. Sorry to say, but the PA course has dropped significantly on my list of local courses. We used to play PA Muni regularly. The course was fun, the service was good and the food was decent. Seems they took their sweet time renovating it, tore out a few hundred trees, installed some fancy signage, now they think they can charge $100 for a round? Sorry, there are tons of better courses in the area, especially at that price. I'll only play there in a pinch, or if I can get on for half price. It's only worth $60, tops! read more
