We had an incredible experience celebrating an early Father's Day! Even with a late 3:20 PM tee time on a busy day, the course conditions on the Old Course were excellent and impressively well-kept--everything from the tee boxes to the bunkers and the greens held up great. I had booked our tee times well in advance, but there was a bit of a miscommunication on the books when we arrived, and the staff seemed surprised by our family check-in. Honestly, Nate was the absolute MVP of the day. Without him, our day would have been ruined. So, we truly appreciate him and we were so grateful that he went above and beyond to get us completely taken care of, ensuring our family was able to stick together and play/spectate as a group for the whole round. We timed the day perfectly, wrapping up on the 18th hole right around 8 PM. To cap off a great day, we had dinner at The Conservatory. The customer service there was top-notch, and the food was exceptional. My dad enjoyed it so much that he already wants to come back to try out the Ocean Course next time--hopefully with a more organized situation at check-in! read more

My husband and I played the Old Course on Valentine's Day and had a great time! Most of the course is lined with houses and the last 2 holes finishes next to the Ocean. The staff were wonderful from the start. We finished with 4.5 hours so the pace was decent. Afterwards we ate at the clubhouse and the steaks were great!! Wanting to try their burgers as that is only available during lunch and Wednesdays (I think?) Overall great experience, we're looking forward to playing the Ocean Course next. read more

HMB is absolutely one of the very the BEST golfing experiences you can have. Parking, easy for a resort course and valet if your into that. Pro shop... friendly staff and starters and the shop itself is stocked full of merch including Sunday Red. Snack bar for the grab and go folks and a restaurant that has specials daily with live music with bar seating looking out at the pacific! Two completely different course set ups can be found in the old and ocean 18s with the finishing hole on the old course being iconic. I recently reviewed another venue with wind that hampered my golfing day and yes. Depending on the day and the hour your out here, there will likely be some blowing. However, it is completely playable, actually it's pretty fun working your ball around the place on a course set up next to the Pacific where you'd expect to have gusts so a two club breeze is just that... completely acceptable. Love his place and would play it every week, green fee's are not offensive either when you consider what neighbors down the road on the Monterey Peninsula are charging these days. Spanish bay remodel is rumored to be over$650.00 PP when completed. I'm sorry but as a local, I'd rather play HMB hands down, save the cash and commute headache and you should too! read more

Club rentals $75 come with sleeve of balls, but if you're a higher handicapper, bring more balls because the rough/bushes will take your balls. Highly recommend! Too very challenging and wonderful golf courses. You get what you pay for. The old course has residences on all of the course and is a wonderful track. The 18th hole is gorgeous and very challenging if you're not a big hitter. The 17th is a part three where the ocean breezes can make it very difficult. But you do have a great ocean view. The ocean course has plenty of ocean views and it is a links course. It's probably a better choice for those with less than straight drives. read more

I love playing at Half Moon Bay. The views are amazing and the course is challenging. However, the major problem is the green fees are getting very high and the course conditions are getting a little messy. For $250+ for a round of golf, I expect almost pristine conditions. Furthermore, the marshalls are quite pushy about pace of play when one is keeping up with the group in front of them. Furthermore, the cafe serves a chicken tender meal that is well over battered and tastes like it was fried in old, smelly oil. The plus side is that it is a generous portion but saving leftovers is an adventure for your teeth. I recommend ordering something else. read more

**To preface, this review is solely on my experience with the event management, not the courses, pro shop, golf experience, etc. My company was hosting an event at the Ritz Carlton next door to HMB Golf Links. While I know they are not affiliated with the Ritz in any way, considering the close proximity and their regular interaction with their guests, I did expect a similar level of professionalism. I reached out in July to HMB Golf Links to begin planning a dinner that would take place at the end of September. I was ghosted several times by the event manager, and given the run around by staff when I would call trying to speak with her. If it had not been for the close proximity to the Ritz and the sparse other options in HMB, I would have never continued to try and make this dinner work. In the end, our dinner was completely unorganized, our meal selections weren't ordered in time by the chef and our only options were to piece meal items together from a to-go menu the day before, and yet, our bill was still almost $5,000 for 12 people. I would highly recommend anyone planning any kind of event, whether it's a corporate dinner, social outing, or wedding, to look elsewhere for a venue and save yourself a headache. read more

Played Ocean Course 6/9/26, Old Course 6/11/26. Really enjoyed both courses. Bring extra balls, we lost over a dozen balls in 2 rounds. The rough is thick and the ball disappears, never to be seen again. Both courses: Excellent condition, from tee boxes to greens. Restrooms are strategically located, clean and well stocked. Ocean Course: Spectacular views, fun to play, greens are challenging, played in 4 hours 20 min., great pace. It's on the ocean, it can be wet/damp, dress accordingly. Old Course: beautiful course, most of it lined w/ houses which seriously detracts from the natural beauty of the area. Holes, 16, 17, and 18 are quite beautiful, 18 is next to the ocean for a breathtaking view. Played in 4 hours, 15 minutes, great pace. Course/pro shop staff are polite, cordial, professional, helpful. Starters keep things moving so players tee off on time. A cart helper greeted us at our vehicle and loaded our bags onto cart. Another cart helper cleaned our clubs, unloaded our cart, and returned the cart after the round. Would definitely play here again. read more

Wow! This is a follow-up on my anticipated Father's Day Golf outing. Simply put I can't wait until I return to play both courses again. This place exceeded all expectation. The course was amazing, condition was exceptional and the staff were all very professional. Thank you ElPedio for taking care of our group. We played twilight on both courses. Speed of play at four hours was perfect. It was windy the second day but the course was still playable and fun. What more can I ask it was cloudy but the sun came out a bit, and the whales were breaking water out in the Pacific. My only suggestion is to stop to appreciate everything around you. read more

Played the ocean course and couldn't have been happier. It was dreary and felt like a day in Ireland on the links. The entire course was in great condition, the greens were fast, and the views (especially on the back nine) were spectacular. The course had its fair share of up and down as well as blind shots (a few too many for my liking). The fairways gave ample room for tee shots but could be punished by fescue and bushes for errant shots. Playing up the cart path side of each hole gave you a good angle to the various greens. The starters and marshalls were very pleasant and helpful. Holes 15-18 were truly world class and provided great views of the pacific. Only bummer is no driving range. Based on other reviews went to Ocean View public driving range b4 tee time but it was terrible & wouldn't recommend. read more

The second time I've had the privilege of playing this beautiful course. Half moon bay golf links is truly in amazing shape right now, seamless experience from the bag check in to the first hole. The only downside is that it does not have a driving range but the chipping, and putting area is well kept and pretty big. Huge thanks to Nate Hillman for the tips on the driving ranges around the area, knowledge of the golf course, and of course his kindness and hospitality made the day extra special. Save your money if golf in Scotland is a goal. Bag pipe sunset serenades, cool (ok...freaking cold ocean breezes); the course with moguls of green, undulating endlessly hugging up to the rugged pacific coastline, looking out west over the expanse of grey and white chop, the thought that Hawaii is somewhere out there would never enter your head. With a thick marine layer obscuring the location of the sun, it's more like your view is east, off the North Sea and venturing off the coast will land you in Norway Denmark or the Netherlands. The south course challenges your skills at every corner. However as long as you hit it straight you can score pretty well. (I was 12 inches from an eagle on #8 par 5) The cool weather wreaked havoc on the cart batteries as may were dead by 14th hole. The staff was really scrambling to keep up. But they were quick accommodating, under the circumstances. FYI the club house closes at 7 and the Hotel only serves guests of the resort. So either get done early or bring some thing to eat, the hit at the 10th hole was closed. We only saw the refreshment cart once on the 15th hole read more

Today the four of us redeemed our Golf Moose vouchers. The voucher was valid for either the ocean course and the old course. Last year we played the ocean course so we decided we'd play the the old course. I called the pro shop to make tee time and had to leave my credit card information. Tee time was 8:45am today, but the starter allowed us to start at 8:30am behind a foursome. Weather wise it was overcast and chilly. I had four layers on. And kept four layers on for 18 holes. It wasn't until we rounded the corner to the 17th hole that we felt the ocean breeze. At that point we were facing the Pacific Ocean. It's true about the 18th hole. A spectacular view of the Ritz Carlton hotel and the Pacific Ocean. The 18th hole is a par four cart path only. Now that I've had a chance to play both the ocean course and the old course I'd be satisfied with playing either. It appears the ocean course is more popular. Today anyway. read more

Golf cart got a flat tire on 6th hole. Cart never should have been sent out. Called pro shop repeatedly to bring a replacement, many times calls were unanswered. Drink cart lady had to call to get somwone to respond. Waited 50 minutes for replacement and finished our ocean course round after sunset. No offer to from the Club to make good on our issues, only offering "we don't have many tires". Poor customer service which will keep me away from this not affiliated with the Ritz course in the future. read more

Snagged a mid day tee time at the Ocean Course for slightly cheaper, but that meant I had to contend with winds toward the end of the round (around 15 mph winds). Still, the views at golden hour were incredible on the finishing holes and I'm glad I chose this course over the Old Course (which I heard just only has ocean views on the last 2 holes). Through most of the holes on the Ocean Course, I could see the ocean in the distance which was a huge plus. The tee boxes and greens had been punched and sanded about a month ago, yet were still sandy when I played. I'm quite curious seeing that they also aerated greens in November according to other reviews when/how long greens and tee boxes are pristine. It kind of detracted from the experience playing - minus 1 star. This was probably my first true links test after playing Corica Park South (not really links but has lots of rolling greens). I definitely learned to start hitting it short and letting the ball roll onto the green and generally keeping the ball low due to the wind on the last few holes but otherwise, you can actually just hit shots that won't reach the green high up just like you would play a parkland style course. A fair warning about the rough - it can be quite thick and I lost a few balls that I thought I saw land. Greens are fairly fast. Pro-tip given by one of the employees - on hole 16, you can venture onto the cliff for a nice spot for pictures. Overall for $162, it was definitely a treat to play this course and the ocean views were definitely breathtaking. read more

I get frost delay can cause back ups but I do believe with proper rangers they can go turn it around. 5 hours and I only made it to hole #13. This is unacceptable on all levels. What made me furious was on hole #7 we waited 10 minutes to hit. We had two ladies playing with us. They were kind, funny, and loved the game and kept up with pace of play. I was on the green and a ranger tells the two ladies to hurry pace of play when the next hole the guys are still waiting to hit. I felt this was misogynistic and simply rude. I did not take lightly his delivery and told him to go ahead to follow up with the people ahead. Sister in law inquired about this place and Courtney was the person we communicated with through email before scheduling a tour with Karen. I remember Karen being wonderful and pleasant. Just finished playing half moon bay. Beautifully maintained golf course. We had perfect weather today with little wind. It is definitely a challenging course. The greens were not flat and hardly any bend when putting your ball. We played the Ocean course which offered views of the ocean on the 16th and 17th holes. Our group had 2 foursomes and it was nice to see our leader's name as today's visitor on the large tv screen outside of Mullins. We also made it in time for happy hour held from 3:00-6:00pm on weekdays. Our waiter Juan served us $4 draft beers and 25% off beef nachos, cheesy crab bread and quesadillas. It was a perfect way to end our day at the half moon bay golf course. I wish we could afford to play here more often. But our entire party purchased $99 half moon bay vouchers from Golf Moose so it was sweet golfing today and the first time at Half Moon for some of us. Wow! ...would be the one word needed to describe this course! Beautiful views for sure and greens and fairways were nicely manicured. Greens were quite challenging for me as I could not get the feel or read them to my advantage. Fast!.. would be the one word for the greens. We were thankful to have played with locals who helped us with layout of each hole and gave us good tips and strategies for each hole. The layout is wide open so we wereare able to see the entire course from the tips of the 11th tee box (as the starter mentioned to us). Just a beautiful course and it was a beautiful day! read more

Taking the day off from work, my friends and I were pretty excited to finally make our way to Half Moon Bay Golf Links. Largely because it sure beat being stuck in the office all day, but mostly because I had heard so many great things about this place! And not just in regards to the golfing; with unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean serving as a backdrop for a number of holes, you really couldn't ask for a prettier place to play! Although the discounted rate our friend snagged for us didn't apply to the Old Course, that suited us fine since we wanted to play the Ocean course anyways. Not only is it the newer and slightly easier of the two, but it's also a whole lot prettier (hence their names...). Of course, the weather helped - a little foggy early on, but it warmed up a bit after we teed off. I'd be lying if I said it stayed that idyllic, though; by the last few holes along the coast, the winds really kicked up. It's quite humbling to watch a gorgeous looking tee shot hit into the wind drop like a brick... I won't go into detail about every hole, but I will say this - every one of them was ridiculously well manicured and maintained (there were groundskeepers throughout the course). No brown or barren patches of grass, grade changes were well-defined between the fairways, fringe, rough, and greens, and every bunker was filled with soft, fluffy sand (which i got to know all too well, unfortunately). As for how the course played, it's challenging, but not overly so. Despite stroking it right down the middle, I lost my ball on the first tee due to the fairway's slope and the morning fog. Other than that though, as well as the weather, each hole played true - nothing all that weird or hinky. The second hole requires you to tee off over a "ravine" (not that bad), and another requires you to do the same over a pond, but otherwise, expect various combinations of elevation changes, slopes, bends, rolling mounds, and sand traps. If anything, the hardest aspect was trying to get a good read on the breaks/speeds of the greens. If I were to note one complaint about our experience, it'd be with the way they don't stagger each group. Almost from the time we pulled up to the first tee box, the group behind us was right on our tail. It wasn't until we were about a third of the way through that we were able to get some separation. Besides that though, the pace of play was good, the carts were terrific (stocked with tees and towels), and the staff was super friendly. One of the groundskeepers even helped me to find my ball after it rolled off the back of the green into some brush. While the green fees are definitely higher than where my friends and I usually play (~$100 on GolfNow, including a cart), they aren't terrible, especially when you consider the quality of the course. And the views, of course. Really, how many courses out there can offer something as beautiful and picturesque? Half Moon Bay Golf Links may not make our regular rotation of spots, but for the occasional splurge or a special occasion (BTW, this place is great for weddings, as my buddy can attest to), I'll definitely look to come back again. Oh yeah, and as a wedding venue? Other than how it can get pretty windy, this is a pretty dope spot! Bar, dance floor, outdoor boche ball...not much to complain about! read more

Played Ocean and came back a few days later to play the Old course. Ocean is great for views and links style. While Ocean is the flashier course, we had a better round on the old course because Ocean was packed and pace of play was a fair bit slower. We were about 2 holes behind most of the round and the Marshall was efforting with the slow group ahead, but they were in it to win it and waited for every second shot on par 5s to only leave a solid third shot in. Both courses were recently aerated so putting was a crap shoot. The clubhouse staff wasn't overly friendly, a bit stuffy. The guy with the mustache was more interested in practicing his wedge shots behind the counter than anything else. Golf parking is tight. Hotel guests EVERYWHERE on the Ocean Course and seem uninterested is yielding to golfers ON THE GOLF COURSE. The snack bar food was great quality for a quick bite at the turn. You're paying for the location and views more so than the golf experience. read more

Nice course, but the price gauging is out of hand. It's not a $200 course. Mind you we played on the nicest day of the year in HMB - 75 sunny and no wind. Plus, this is a $30 cocktail we bought on the course. They literally doubled the price of the drink for a double shot. We're all for paying more the double shot, we're not naive enough to expect a cheap double transfusion. Having grown up in HMB, I have played HMB Golf Links dozens of times, mostly on the Old Course where I learned to play, but a few times on the Ocean Course. It has gotten more expensive over the years, but for what and where it is that is understandable. Usually. But not yesterday. As I hope my pictures here show, the greens on the Ocean Course had been aerified and sanded. I don't know when, but when we played on November 22, 2016 they were completely unputtable. Half of the game of golf is chipping and putting, and so I paid $130 to basically hit drives and approach shots, effectively a $260 round of golf, though without the satisfaction of playing a complete round of golf. And my wife played as well, so double that. Greens need to be aerified. No problem. But all the reputable golf courses I have played over the years post this information. I would have gladly switched over to the Old Course if I was told -- as I should have been before paying nearly $300 to golf (assuming they stagger which course's greens are being aerified). I couldn't be more disappointed in the course conditions and the management. read more

Beautiful course. I was debating purchasing a membership. I have experienced outright harassment now multiple times here. Earlier this year, we were adjacent to some teenagers blasting music one of their phones in a golf cart with explicit lyrics (music is fine, but no one wants to hear your music on blast). Then, some toxic stares, and later, the group of teens started hitting into my group. I chalked it up to booking a 5pm twilight time, towards the beginning of Covid (crowds), where lots of kids were not going to school and generally being nuisances on golf courses. The rest of the summer here was OK. Some weird stuff happened -- like a family of 6 with 3+ kids (didn't count after 3), booking a single tee time, playing super slow and with like 5 carts and letting their kids hit -- which is fine, but perhaps tough when you pay $110+ for a tee time. Fast forward to today -- the course was open -- playing behind a group of two teenagers. At hole 3 they were still on the green. After they were done, I hit and they gave me this angry stare from the next hole as I drove up. Mind you, I waited for them to leave the hole and move to the next tee before I hit. Next hole, I saw they were playing slow, and teeing off from the black/championship length tees. Then I saw them hitting their second shots from in front of the ladies tees (they must have shanked their drives). I took some bites of my chicken fingers from the snack shop (excellent food, btw), and waited about 10-15 mins later and saw them make a right turn beyond view, in their carts. Figured it was safe to hit as I didn't see them for a few minutes. Hit two balls, both landed clear of people (playing much slower now so as not to keep getting up behind them). Got in the cart and rolled up to the balls I hit. Wayyy far off the fairway on the left behind a hill and some bushes was the two teenagers, scuffling hitting balls under a tree by a house. One of them starts yelling obscenities at me; personal attacks. I didn't know these kids at all. I was surprised to even see them, as I waited at least 15-20 minutes before I took my first shots and saw them leave my field of view. But here they were, basically in some people's front yard, trying to play shots from pretty much off the course. Playing from the black tees, after about 3 shots it seemed like. One of the kids starts toward me, so I ask, do I have to call the marshall. He continues to shout at me and harass me, while his friend waves me by. I play fast to pass them and call the marshall, as I hadn't ever seen people act like this on a golf course in over 12 years of golf. Fast forward a couple holes, the marshall catches up with me. He asks what happened, and I explain my side of the story, including that I had inadvertently played two shots onto the fairway they were on, as I didn't see them since they were out of view, playing super slow, and playing balls from the bushes just in front of somebody's house. The marshall says he will talk to the kids. A couple holes later... the marshall comes back and says the kids say I hit into them twice. I said I didn't deny that, but it was an accident, as I didn't see them and they were playing super slow, and were way out of view. I even apologized to them. But my issue was their attitude, and hurling personal insults, and even trying to act aggressive towards others on the course. His advice -- play really fast to not see them again, and "he'd better not have to come back and break this up." To me, this is not acceptable. Twice is a pattern. This course allows kids to come on and act like idiots, and doesn't enforce any sort of etiquette, in terms of slow play or behavior.
