My 5-year-old son, who is unvaccinated (due to medical complications ) for pertussis, was seen here. He has had violent coughing fits for 6 days, some ending in vomiting, with clear mucus, and gasping for air, no fever or other symptoms. We informed Dr. Snyder of recent travel to the Big Island, where pertussis is circulating. Despite this, she refused to prescribe antibiotics. This contradicts CDC guidance for presumptive treatment and left my child and our community at risk. I told her we were switching pediatricians to someone near our home since his was almost 2 hours away so we needed something to start him on. Although the doctor was informed I was told to "follow up with one" or "go to a different hospital that does that kind of testing." No referral or concrete next step was offered. This represents not only a failure to act on clear CDC guidance, but also a failure to ensure appropriate continuity of care for a symptomatic, unvaccinated minor. While I can appreciate that she is a doctor that doesnt just throw antibiotics at children, this is a different case, and the fact that my son isn't vaccinated should have been treated more seriously. This would have been his second ever antibiotic but because we are with him and know this cough isnt normal we felt the antibiotic would be a smart choice. I called her again and she still refused. Requesting that we take him somewhere else, as if everyone can afford another doctor visit. I will be requesting an investigation into the clinical decision-making. read more

The care I received at St. Davids South Austin (at the Hill Country Galleria) was above any experience I have had with an ER. The staff was waiting for me when I arrived and tended to my injury quickly and with great care. Dr. Shah and the staff were more than excellent caregivers but were also very thorough, caring and kind. Dr. Shah was very knowledgeable about my injury and once stable, expedited a referral to a specialist for immediate followup. Highly recommend SDSA. read more

The care was fantastic. We were in and out in less than 2 hours. The doctor was caring and compassionate. We had a wonderful experience at St. David's Emergency Center. Why the one star? The following month, we received 3 bills for my 7-year old daughter's visit. We expected this because of emergency services, and the doctor's bill and the bill for her rapid strep test were reasonable. However, the third bill for just the location "St. David's South Austin Medical Center" was over $2,000, which equated to a $1,200 bill for me to pay. Yes, we were in network. THAT IS INSANE. My daughter had her vitals taken, a rapid strep test, and we were on our way. That visit will now cost me over $1,400. Unless your arm/leg/other extremity is literally falling off or you are dying...stay away. Now I know why we were the only patients there. read more

I went to St. David's Emergency Center in Bee Cave today because of pain in my lower right side and unrelenting symptoms of a urinary tract infection. I have been to many emergency rooms in my life (unfortunately) but I have never been in one as impressive as St. David's. I was met at the door and taken right into a room without someone stopping me to get insurance information or anything else. Within two minutes I was seeing Dr. David who listened to my symptoms, did an exam and planned for tests. Olivia, my nurse, was excellent as was the nurse who drew blood (and I have had some very bad experiences with that). I had blood drawn, other tests and a CT scan with no wait. Dr. David was very thorough in reviewing my results and recommending a follow-up doctor if symptoms did not improve. I highly recommend this emergency room if you have to go to one. read more

I was billed almost $10,000 for two visits to this ER. The first visit I had no tests run and no medicine given. All I left with was a prescription to be filled elsewhere. The second I was told I needed multiple tests with no consideration or conversation of cost. Had I known I would walk away with this outrageous bill I would have declined. On top of this, I've called the urgent care and St. David's billing for an explanation of the list of services on my bill but no one can give me an answer. Each one tells me to call someone else or write a letter to customer service. So now I have this huge bill that's all in code but no one can actually tell me what they mean. For the services I was given, it should be a fraction of this bill. This is theft by the healthcare industry. This review is long overdue. I had contracted a strange bronchial virus in December of 2019 that was turning into pneumonia and I had a very elevated heart rate and low oxygen. I checked In and was immediately placed in a room and sent for a CT Scan which showed I had severe congestion and was given oxygen and sent to walk around the hall to see why my heart rate was so elevated. The doctor said he'd been seeing a strange upper respiratory virus recently. Hmmmm.... Wonder what that could've been in hindsight? I was given meds and a note to stay home from work for three days and then fully recovered later that week after two weeks of illness. Staff from the doctor to nurses and CT tech, to the rather lengthy checkout process was kind and efficient. Hope I don't need their sectors anytime soon, but it is comforting to know they are die the street if I do. read more

The best Sunday service ever... no exaggeration. I was greeted at the door by two warm & professional young nurses who showed me to a treatment room without hesitation. Just prior I had stopped at a nearby urgent care center where the receptionist handed me several pages of forms to complete despite my actively bleeding forehead wound. I was fortunate to be directed to St. David's. Dr. Kim Snyder presented within minutes of my arrival to irrigate and suture the wound. She was very thorough & quite personable. Voila! We are visiting from Dallas and my husband woke with heavy pain in his abdomen this morning. We chose to go to this St. David's due to its close proximity to our hotel in Bee Cave and had the best experience (well, as good as one can have in these situations). We were immediately greeted by a nurse, Amy, who took us back to a room and took his vitals and all the normal info. She was very personable and let us know that the doctor would be in soon. Dr. Ewen was in very quickly, she was also quite personable and professional, and let us know what tests she was ordering after a brief examination. She shared the possible next steps depending on the results. Amy was back in very promptly to do an the IV for fluids, drew blood and let us know the name of the CT tech, when he'd be in to take him for the scan and how long the end to end process should take. She made sure to ask if we had questions and offered to get us anything we needed. After the CT scan we had a diagnosis very quickly and my husband was discharged with his recovery plan and a couple Rx's. Even the check-out process was very organized and quick. The facility was also clean and well maintained. I've never had a more seamless and pleasant experience in an ER, hospital or urgent care facility. read more

Bee Cave Urgent Care refused to treat my 13 yo son after an injury at baseball because we arrived within 25 minutes of their closing time, so we came to St. David's. Within 30 seconds, I'm not exaggerating, they had us in a room and were checking his vitals. We didn't even slow down walking. They had assessed him and gotten the story of the injury before even asking even our last name or for any paperwork or insurance info. He did NOT have any need for concussion protocol or treatment, as I tried to tell Bee Cave Urgent Care, and he only needed some stitches. But the staff at St. David's was respectful, competent, and thorough in their explanations. St. David's didn't even ask for insurance or ppwk until we were finished and the injury was sewn up. The staff there was excellent, and it was such a stark contrast to Bee Cave Urgent Care. We will never step foot into that facility again, and St. David's has a new family (with five active kids!) that are now devoted customers. Of course I haven't gotten a bill yet that will allow me to determine that part of it, but I do understand that it is an ER. However, I'd rather pay a bit more for great service and concern for the patient when compared to the disdain, skewed priorities, and lack of medical professionalism that we witnessed at Bee Cave Urgent Care. Anything after regular doctor's hours stinks and will be more expensive, but when in that situation again, St David's is the place we will choose. read more

My friend got insanely sick during lunch, we rushed her here and were super impressed with the cleanliness of the office and knowledgeable staff. 1. In my experience, the Billing Department at this emergency center is fraudulent. 2. Although the Emergency Center assured me they are a "preferred provider" for Blue Cross, their Billings department sent a fake Legal / Collections demand only a month after the visit - without submitting the claim to insurance or even sending me a bill before "collections". It is far more lucrative to terrify patients into paying whatever they decide to charge than accepting insurance rates. Blue Cross later told me I only owed $30, despite their collections demand for $488 -- on top of the on top of the $500 and $200 deductible I already paid for the six-minute meeting with the surgeon to schedule surgery. 3. The Blue Cross rep subsequently told me the hospital hadn't notified them I paid anything - including the deductible. The Blue Cross rep encouraged me to report them to the Texas Board of Insurance. 4. The "collections" reps refused to let me speak to a manager - until I made one nervous by asking for her employee name and number for my complaint. THAT finally opened the door to the manager. 5. The manager (a nice lady) recanted after I informed her my insurance company informed me that they were breaking the law and defrauding their patients. She was a decent person and acknowledged: a. HRRG isn't a Legal / Collections firm at all; it's just their billings department. b. They had not billed my insurance company, as required. c. I was not in collections and my FICO was not at risk. I told the manager I was looking at Yelp as we spoke and had the impression that about half the people considered them scammers. She said that didn't surprise her at all. _________________________ I write this a day later, after receiving a second collections demand letter. I called the phone number on the letter. The "collections agent" immediately started yelling and threatening me - they will take me to court, damage my credit ratings and so on - and they had nothing to do with the hospital. _________________________ To recap, if you experience similar difficulties that you can't resolve, report them to the Texas Board of Insurance. I am an old broad and have lived many places around the world and I've never seen anything like the horrific stuff that happens in this state. Some (good) lobbyists trying to improve the Texas health care system tell me that not only does TX have the highest rate of baby/birth deaths in the country, but in fact the highest of every one of the developed countries in the world. Reminds me of the time former governor Rick Perry declared that in no case or under any circumstance would Texas ever go after an insurance company for fraud. Where else would someone say such a thing in this country! ___________________________________ Follow-up - Since writing this Yelp message, wonder of wonders, St David's stopped sending me bills from their fake legal collections firm. I hope they looked in the mirror and decided to do the right thing. Nah, that's a joke! The surgeon and medical team was great. But much as I'd like to revisit my surgeon to review the state of my formerly broken wrist, I will never go back unless I'm at death's door. As far as I know, only the St. David's billings department is defrauding its patients. Though the anesthesiology group tried to charge me $1 a day while I tried to make sense of my bills, which I suspect is against the law. I received many kinds of bills for the surgery. Blue Cross tells me their double-billing is legal and common. read more

My daughter (12) was treated for a simple case of dehydration. The doctor took a blood count test and gave her IV fluid for 30 mins. She was in and out within less than two hours... then the bill came... a whopping $4,900 for the visit - I kid you not. Then they have the audacity to extend a 'discount' of $2,300 to the insurance which then pays $600 for the service which they claim is market rate for the treatment provided leaving me with a $1,600 out of pocket charge. What a scam for St. David's who get to charge whatever they want. Non-negotiable and unreal. I repeat, less than two hours being administered water. I find this to be completely unacceptable from a medical facility and/or medical providers in any economy and under any circumstances. As a result I also learned that they are not a registered facility with the Better Business Bureau - probably for a good reason. Calling the billing department is of no use as they keep threaten to send the bill to collection and have no care in the world. Beware of taking anyone there - daytime robbery without a weapon. To add insult to injury (pun intended), clicking on the pricing policy link on their web site leads to a 404-page not found error. Figures. I expected nothing less. read more

I wouldn't recommend this facility because of their billing practices. The bill came to $2,300 for an X Ray and brief talk with the doctor. $1500 of this bill was the fee for walking in the door. One year later, St. David's is still battling it out with my insurance company because they can't justify their prices. Unlike most hospital ERs, they don't negotiate their prices with major insurance companies, so you will likely pay more than you would if you went to a real hospital. Medical care was average for an ER. The real benefit of going here is being seen much faster than usual. If you can wait a few extra minutes, I recommend the urgent care at Bee Caves and 360. It's less than half the cost for the same service. read more

Kind people work in this brand new facility. I had to bring my girlfriend here after a car accident and left very impressed with RN's David and Jesse, radiologist Jane, and Dr. Buchanan. We did not wait to get in for treatment, the RN's met us at the door with a smile, they went above and beyond to offer us drinks, blankets, or anything else we needed to remain comfortable. They even gave us ice packs and heating packs to take home and use, free of charge. Finally, they burned the x-ray images to a CD while we waited, and they followed up the next day to see how she was feeling. I sincerely hope we never need to go back, but if we have another emergency, I know a good place very close to my home. read more

Their name is misleading. "Minor emergency center" is a well known term but this is an ER and they bill at hospital rates. The staff does not mention this "for legal reasons" (I called and asked). While I have no beef with the care I received or the staff, this place is neither an Urgent Care Center nor a functioning hospital. The staff on site will tell you they are a fully-functional ER, but they do not have: *Trauma surgeons on the premises *The ability to hospitalize you if necessary Which means if your condition is serious (please use your own judgement), you'll be transported to a different hospital, where if you do *not* select to be transported by ambulance ($1200.00 minimum) to South Austin St. David's hospital, you'll receive *another* Emergency Room charge to the tune of $2900.00 Then you'll get bills from both places and the attending physicians who show up in your room(s) for a minimum of $600.00 each, regardless of how long they stay. On the flip side, if you only need a couple of stitches and you're trying to save a few bucks, this place is NOT an Urgent Care facility. They will charge you full ER charges and doctors' time, plus the Emergency rate for any X-rays (500% of non-Emergency) or CT scans. And there's a 6,000% markup on any medication they provide you. Imagine paying $48.00 for 800mg of Ibuprofen. Again, I have no beef with the care I received or the staff at St. David's, this facility is not what it appears to be. If you need an ER, go to a hospital. If you need an Urgent Care clinic, look for the words "Urgent Care." read more

Wow. First class treatment close to home! Took my husband here for a dizzy spell and he was immediately welcomed and taken to a comfortable, private room. There is a nice waiting room, but we never got a chance to sit there before being cared for - how great is that?! So different from the times we have spent hours in waiting rooms at various hospitals before being shown to a room (only to wait again for any care). Nurses were ready and eager to provide care, an EKG was taking within minutes of our arrival, the doctor saw him quickly, and he felt well-cared for. Is it more expensive than a doctor's office or some urgent care places. Yes. But it's a full-fledged ER, with the equipment and highest level staff to take care of everything from a hang-nail to a cardiac emergency. It's what I would have expected from any hospital ER, and the care was MUCH Better. read more

I just got off the phone after trying to negotiate down the ridiculous bill I received after taking my 5-year-old there. He fell and I was worried he needed a couple stitches in his face...was misled by "minor emergency" signage as another review said into thinking this was along the same lines as an urgent care. NOPE. But they don't tell you, hey - you're going to be charged $1,000 for us to spend less than 5 minutes looking at your son's face and saying he doesn't need stitches. That's all they did. I fell and fractured my nose on December 11th, causing uncontrollable bleeding. Because of a prior negative experience the other hospital near my home, I asked to be transported to St. David's. While my clinical experience was satisfactory, my pocketbook is still hurting. My insurance clearly states that accidental injuries (is there some other medical condition causing a nasal fracture?) are fully covered, I had to fight with St. David's outsourced billers for several months to have an $600 co-payment bill removed (my insurance incidentally was billed - and paid - over $5000 for my 1 hour in this free standing ER). Unfortunately, my wallet is still hurting because three months after this accident the $250 deposit I was required to pay at the door has not yet been refunded to me. I understand it it the hospital's policy to collect as though this was a possible hospital admission - that is on signage above the receptionist's station. But I cannot understand why my refund has been so long delayed. When I asked the "Refund Department" which is in-house, unlike the very efficient out-sourced billers, I was first told that my deposit had been retained somehow for the event of my future return to the hospital. When I demanded my refund, saying I had no known plans to return, I was told the refund would take several weeks. Since then, a full month has passed. I would suggest avoiding this ER if you do not want to essentially have your funds held without interest or cause. read more

Similar experience. I had a minor eye injury. Two drops to my eye was told to see an eye doctor, 15 minutes total time. Charge of $702.00 plus the Doctor of $113.00. The staff was very good but the CPT code (used by Hosp, Drs, etc to determine the services provided) was way out of line. St Davids is owned by Hospital Corporation of America not a religious group. If you have a true emergency go to a hospital ER where you can be admited if needed. If you need urgent care go to a true urgent care facility for much less. But not St Davids as it seems they are charging ER level fees in the facilites listed as Urgent Care. read more

Was amazed at how many reviews not only on this website, but their company website coincide with my experience in regards to being blindsided by the billing process through this facility. The date of service was 5.22.15 and I just received a bill from a collection agency on behalf of Longhorn Emergency Medical, which is a billing company for the ER doctors. I was told through ST. David's and my insurance company that the doctor that glued my daughters eye was in network so did not need to pay the physician's bill. After long hours on the phone with all parties involved in 2015, I was told bill was resolved. Now in 2017 I have a bill from a collections agency with no warning or notification in between from anyone. **If you need urgent care, please know that this 24 hour facility will charge you extra on so many levels and that it is in your best interest to go to an "urgent care" not a 24 hour ER facility even if it is associated with ST. David's that might be in your network. In my case it was to the tune of $2000 between St. David's facility fee and the physician's bill. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I took my 11 year old son in to be checked out because he was hurt while playing with his older brother. I presented my insurance card and was expecting the typical $100 or so copay. HA!! Almost $9,000 between the facility charge, the physician charge, and radiology. NEVER was anything explained to me. Fortunately, I know enough about insurance and I argued that they could get either $10 a month for the rest of my life or they could reduce the bill to usual and customary charges. They did reduce the bill by 40%, but I still paid close to $5k for the experience. My son was fine, and definitely had I known the billing practices, I would have gone to another place or waited until the morning to see his pediatrician. I've read several reviews that have had the same experience. I'm seriously considering filing a complaint with the State Board of Insurance. My daughter had a strep test and a flu test and we got a bill for over $2,000. We were there for 45 minutes. I called to ask why the bill was so high and it was explained to me because they gave her ibuprofen she was rated a level 3 Emergency. I could have reached in my purse and given her one. They have these outrageous levels that they have made up to overcharge people. They are everything that is wrong with Healthcare today! I called my insurance company and they confirmed they over charge for their services and I was better to go to Baylor Scott and White. They just bought $2000 worth of bad advertising. My 2 sons had an accident, one suffered a laceration to the arm and the other, a laceration on the hand. So we drove them to St David's emergency center at the Galleria on Bee Caves. They both got stitched up and were told to return at different dates to get the stitches removed for free. Got billed $544 each. Uhm, quite expensive for stitches, but ok, it's the urgent care room, paid it promptly. Few days later, my youngest gets stitches removed, no bill yet, just as offered. Couple days later my oldest goes to get his stitches removed and Dr. is told my son seems to have trouble retracting up the tip of his thumb so he takes an X-ray to check for possible glass fragments remaining and refer us to a hand Dr. (couple days later Hand Dr.Recommended immediate surgery before tendon/muscle retraction makes the tendon irreparable). Got the bill for that second visit... $1600-ish ... minus insurance discount, $1100-ish. What?????? Seems to me that offering a free second visit and then billing $1600-ish when they missed to properly diagnose my son is beyond moral. I understand X-rays were needed, and that diagnosis is not an exact science, but... seriously? So I'm trying to dispute the billed amount. Good luck with that. The only thing I've obtained so far is to know that the X-rays were billed at $500-ish. Sad because care was professional and friendly all across the board, but if you ask me, and if billing may be an issue for you, I'd probably recommend to go somewhere else. read more

Same boat as many others. Charged over $1,100.00 (ER+ separate Dr. bill) for a 5 minute consult over a minor inflected lip. Literally 2 minutes with the doc and a prescription for an antibiotic. The same issue flared up a few weeks later and a trip to the family doc, $113.00. Don't even attempt to call and discuss your concerns with the direct billing office or the regional billing office. It's a pretty simple formula ... pay up deadbeat! Should be required to post their charges on a menu board and let you make the decision before you step behind the door.
