I fell and broke my ankle while walking on my college campus last September 2022 and needed surgery…read moreif I ever wanted to walk again. As soon as I arrived to Medical City's ER in Denton I was immediately met with probably the rudest group of staff members I have ever encountered in my entire life. The front desk receptionist (I'd say in her mid 40's to 50's) was extremely rude to me as soon as I walked in. She had an attitude the entire time and acted as if she was mad or annoyed at me for "bothering" her with my injury. The nurse (mid 20's to early 30's with dirty blonde/brown hair) who checked me in/started triage was EVEN RUDER than the front desk lady, which I honestly didn't think was possible. She also acted as if she was annoyed at me coming in and "bothering" her, as if this isn't her job that she went through years of school for and CHOSE to do. I was in severe pain as I had just suffered a very bad break and obviously wasn't able to walk. Before I left the ER, the nurse gave me crutches to use to get around until the day of my surgery the next week. I have never had to use crutches up until then as this was my first time ever breaking a bone. I immediately had trouble using the crutches and lost my balance while trying to walk. The nurse told me to stand up and try to walk with them and then walked away to do something. As soon as I took my first step I immediately lost my balance and fell. The ONLY reason why I didn't fall all the way to the ground was because my boyfriend was able to catch me at the last minute. When this happened the front desk lady turned around and very angrily SCREAMED "YOU NEED TO GET UP AND BE MORE CAREFUL RIGHT NOW!!!". This was pretty much my breaking point with this ER as I OBVIOUSLY was being careful and would not just choose to fall on purpose. It's absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary to SCREAM at a person for not being able to use crutches after just suffering a severe ankle break. The last thing you want to deal when you are at your worst are rude staff members. These 2 women made my experience so miserable that I now refuse to ever go back to Medical City's ER in Denton when it used to be my go to ER for years. If you need to go to an ER I recommend going to a stand alone ER or just any ER other than Medical City's ER in Denton. I have had great experiences with other stand alone ER's located throughout the Denton/Flower Mound area. Despite this, I do want to mention one of the male staff members in particular. He was the X-ray technician (male, probably in his mid 20's to early 30's) and was the best ever. He was so so kind to me and just absolutely wonderful the entire time. He definitely made my shitty experience with the nurse and receptionist a little bit better and just my injury in general.

The Dr comes in yanks my sock off my foot sending me into a crying fit, they took X-rays looked at me and said " just a bad Sprain here is some crutches, ace wrap and you can go " called my workers comp people and they send me to another Dr and my ankle was broken in 2 places.

My first 2-3 nurses were very kind, helpful and went out of there way to bring me pain meds without having to ask, checked on me periodically, made sure I didn't need help to the bathroom or a refill on my water. The last nurse I had there was terrible! I don't remember her name but she was a middle aged brunette working the late night/early morning shift. I noticed immediately when she first came in the room that she had an attitude problem. She didn't make eye contact, acted cold, treated me like an idiot and was mad anytime I asked for pain meds, water etc. Then, I asked her when dinner was being served because for the first time in almost two days I was ready to attempt to actually eat. She yelled at me and gave me a vague time table. Two hours later I buzzed her just to inquire about dinner and she yelled at me again and accused me of being impatient. Another hour later, after not having my dinner yet and seeing a dinner clean up cart being rolled down the hallway I buzzed her again... She said that dinner had already been served and cleaned up and I should have received it. My dinner was finally given to me but it was freezing cold and it seemed like they just threw a bunch of stuff on a plate for me because they were out of hot food. After I ate my husband decided to leave the hospital for about an hour to get some fast drive-thru dinner for himself. When he returned and tried to return to my room the nurses told him that I had checked out and left the hospital. After him having to argue with them for over ten minutes to prove that there was no way that I had left, they went to check my room and sure enough I was still there. Apparently SOMEONE erased my name off of the nurses board which is probably why I was ignored, not served meals and my husband almost turned away. To me that is just awful, who forgets about a patient? Before it was time to leave the next morning the same mean nurse came in to change my dressings before I left. She "stripped" my drainage bulb which was incredibly painful! When I screamed in pain she said "What is wrong with you? This doesn't hurt, I have done this same thing to hundreds of people and NOBODY ever said they felt anything" basically completely disregarding my pain and practically calling me a liar. One more thing about this nurse, my doctor was unable to visit me in the hospital for a family emergency so he told her to give me aftercare instructions. She gave me ALL of the wrong instructions. She told me I didn't need to wear my compression garment, she told me not to remove gauze from my belly button or to clean my belly button wound etc. When I visited my surgeon a few days later he was extremely mad that I had not been wearing my compression garment or cleaning my BB and it was infected. Bottom line is, this hospital is okay depending on who cares for you... but having my name erased from the patients list and not cared for is dropping the ball BIG TIME.

from the 3+ hour check in time. i received 0 care for the reason i checked myself in. after 3…read moredays of improper medication and no treatment i asked to sign myself out. i was threatened and intimidated to resend the request for discharge. after i resend the request i was told i needed to attend all of the group meetings if i wanted to get out. i was sick and nauseated but sat thru 7 days of group meeting which were about relaxing,or to play games. nothing about by illness. day after day of how to take deep breaths to relax. i think most adults know this. The room assigned to you is kept locked all day so you cannot brush your teeth or use the toilet. there is one toilet for the 25+ people to use. your room is locked. on the 3rd day i got food poison from the cafeteria food,i needed to use the toilet that was in use i went to my room and the door was locked, i went to the nurse station to get the door unlocked. i defecated on the bathroom floor and toilet and myself. this was completely avoidable. you are not provided any towels or soap to clean up with. i was provided the wall mounted hand soap and 12 paper towels . i was provided moist towelettes to clean myself. i informed the staff the floor needed cleaning it was stained. two days later at 2:30 a.m. some demon was in my bathroom making a lot of noise in an attempt to clean the floor. if you would like some water. you have to ask for it. the only water is in the nurse station. some of the nurses would decline or tell you to get someone else to get the water. if you ask a tech for water you get water from a container kept in a refrigerator. i wonder if the container was ever properly cleaned. the food for the most part is uneatable. I ate very little. i asked for help. i got 7 days of hell. refused to release me. you are kept until your insurance runs out. there was a 91 year old lady there with dementia she also was forced to stay in the dayroom 12+ hours a day she would ask to go to her room (wheelchair)and be refused, she would ask for help to get to the restroom that is locked. the techs said they would be back they rarely would return. this lady thought she was on a ship or airplane. sad the way the techs treated this lady. I would take her to the nurse station and they would get help. there was a mid age black lady Tisa i think was her name she would be very loud and disruptive. she should be institutionalized she did not know were or why she was there. roy a veteran and very hard of hearing and talked very loud and disruptive to the group (relaxation) classes. roy and tisa both would be removed from the meeting because they were disruptive. george very very loud and would talk over the tv and presenter . george was never removed from group meetings the night crew would come to your room every 15 minutes and wake you and shine a light in your face they are demons for some reason when george was admitted . he was given control of the tv. he would seat himself blocking the tv for others and talk over the tv so you could not see or hear it, discrimination do not allow your loved ones or even you enemy to go to this shit hole disgusting hell hole. they are unfit to treat anyone for anything at anytime. The group of 25+ people are corralled in the day room, i never saw anyone get any treatment for their ailment. i didn't. threatened and intimidated . kept against your wishes even if you checked yourself in. one phone with a handset 1 foot long for 25+ people. 1 toilet & locked ask for water food disgusting no privacy evil night crew demons Morgan the lier "patient Advocate" true job "employee coverup." unable to take a shower because i required a shower chair/stool. declined every day. if you need a shower stool instead you are manhandled in a medieval looking room clean like livestock. kept here against your will until your insurance runs out. Morgan the "patient advocate" that's a joke his true job is "employee coverup" two faced liar. worthless waste of time talking to him. he is a demon just like the night crew. never saw a doctor for the reason i was in the hospital. the medical dr. which never gave me my correct medications. she would change blood pressure meds in an attempt to control b.p. no attempt in getting my correct medication. my b.p. was always very high Mayhell shithole J.A.C.

The male nurse at the check-in desk made him feel as if he didn't belong there because he didn't "look sick." When my family member got to the back, he was given a breathing treatment and was left in the room over 20 minutes after it completed. He also told the healthcare provider that he hadn't eating in over 10 hours and they still proceeded to give him medication that needed to be taken with food. When he got back home, he was vomiting all over the place. When he got his diagnosis, the male nurse (same person who checked him in) was surprised! He shouldn't have judged a book by it's cover. Just because a person doesn't look well does not mean they don't feel well in their body! Again, he was made to feel as if he just wandered in there off the street. We have wonderful insurance (even if we did not, it shouldn't make a difference b/c healthcare providers should treat each person the same). This family member is a college student in his senior year and needed the help and what does he get? Mistreatment and prejudice! I told him to not visit this place again; at least not on the 3rd shift. The people there obviously didn't want to do their jobs! High reviews? How? I'm very concerned for my family member to get care being so far from home while in college. THIS is why I worry because of people like this! Shame on you, "Total" Care.

This place has gone downhill & I don't think it could even go any further downhill... that's how bad it was in my most recent experience the in late summer of 2025. It was AWFUL. Patients screaming and yelling and breaking things. I heard a nurse say "why won't the police take this patient?" And the other nurse replied, "the police are the ones who brought him here." They don't have programs like they used to. When I was here about 10 years ago, Dr. Colin Ross had an actual trauma program and it was amazing. Now? They tell u they have a trauma program and all these wonderful groups to help, but it is incorrect information and one of the worst experiences of my life. My doc told me if I tried to leave AMA (against medical advice), that he would hold me there even longer. There have been protests outside this facility because of the horrible conditions, program & staff. I could go on and on, but u get the picture. I apologize for not updating my review sooner. If they tell u they have a trauma program, it's basically just the same women's program. It's the same thing. Oh, and in intake it smelled like piss. One of the worst experiences of a psych hospital that I have been to this go around.

Not one ounce of compassion or accountability has come through that phone line. One of the earlier reviews said, "communication here is nonexistent." They were right. This place operates like family members don't matter -- as if one update to one person somehow excuses them from keeping everyone informed. For the record, I'm authorized to receive updates, so that excuse doesn't hold water. What's worse? The tone and attitude of the people who do pick up. No professionalism. No empathy. It makes you genuinely fearful about what's happening behind those locked doors. My brother has Lewy Body Dementia, and I can only imagine how confusing and distressing this must be for him. UBH should remember that "behavioral health" includes the behavior of the staff too. On a scale of 1 to 10, they get a cold, hard zero. I'm aware there are patient advocacy and complaint channels for situations like this -- and frankly, they exist for a reason.
