Breakfast area in main building where you check in

I stayed at the Baymont Inn the night before I went to Mackinac Island for the day. Accommodations on the island can get quite pricey, so I decided to look for options on the mainland. Baymont got great reviews, so I booked a room online. Baymont is a five minute drive from the docks of all three Mackinac ferries (Shepler's, Arnold, Starline - I prefer Shepler's). Check in at the main building next to the swimming pool, which is also where breakfast is served. I was pleased with my lakeside room with two queen beds. It was quite spacious, with a large upholstered armchair, breakfast table with two chairs, desk, TV, microwave, and mini fridge. I found the bed to be quite comfortable considering it wasn't my own. The bathroom fit the bill. I recommend spending the extra $20 or so and reserving a lakeside room. You get gorgeous sunrise and sunset views of Lake Huron. The room came with a small white picket fence balcony with two white plastic chairs, but beware of the bugs trapped between the screen and sliding glass door. Seeing as it was mayfly season in Michigan, I didn't open the door until the morning when I was about to head out as I didn't want to deal with a swarm of bugs invading my room. Do pop your head out in the AM and enjoy the view, though! For roughly $90 a night, I think I got my money's worth. Overall, Baymont is a solid choice if you're looking to stay in St. Ignace before going to Mackinac (or wherever else your travels take you). *Don't forget to take advantage of the AAA discount if you are a member!

A Glimpse of The Spectacular view by the water !

Stayed here 2 nights for The Annual car show in St.Ignace my first time being there as well as Mackinaw Island. A very enjoyable time I must say. The room was good, food your standard buffet types but made more enjoyable by the lovely lady Glenna that was working, very personable. The view at the waterfront is amazing !

We stayed two nights and it exceeded our expectations. Our room had a beautiful view, our room was cleaned thoroughly every day, the common areas were clean, and the staff was nice during the very little interaction we had with them. The room itself was pretty big and I loved that the vanity area was separate from the toilet/shower. Breakfast was just like any other hotel breakfast I've had and WiFi was free. I took off a star because the pool, although it was gorgeous and looked out over the water, had a ton of bugs in it. I know, I know, bugs are common at this time of year for up there (they even tell you at the desk that it's just a fact of life in the area at this time - they don't bite, sting, etc), but if you know that they're hanging out in swarms around your hotel, enough to where you advise guests to enter and exit quickly, you should be on top of skimming the pool. When we come back up north, we'll be staying here again.

"In and around the lake Mountains come out of the sky and…read morethey stand there" (Yes) What a pleasant surprise! The Holiday Inn Express at St. Ignace sure didn't feel like a Holiday Inn Express. First of all, it has a beach, a big grassy communal courtyard, and chairs where you can sit at the waterline and listen to the seagulls that chitter and chatter like crazy. The beach scenery is gorgeous, and the views of the bay and Mackinac Island are gorgeous. The beds are comfy, the HVC and Wi-Fi work great, and the shower may have been the best hotel shower I ever had. Super pressure and plenty of hot water. Oh, and we had a balcony with a great view of the beach and the courtyard. But the biggest surprise was the amazing breakfast variety and the stellar breakfast service by Sheila and Melissa. They ran around at full speed, cleaning, wiping, refilling and straightening non-stop. As for the breakfast foods, there was a bounty of egg white omelets, scrambled eggs, turkey and pork sausage links, biscuits and gravy, a pancake machine, Cereals, Yogurt, gooey Cinnamon buns, Oatmeal, breads, muffins, bagels, apples, oranges, bananas, and more. Our two-night stay cost us $540.50 after taxes. We could not have been happier with our stay here. Five stars all the way.

We stayed in room 119 - should definitely be a king room vs 2 double beds. Barely had enough room to sneeze and the noise from guests above sounded like romper room with a heard of kangaroos all evening & night. The shower area had peeling paint & needs fresh caulk. Spotted a long black hair in toilet area stuck to wall, door, & hinge. The curtain over the AC needs to be shorter to not interfere with air flow & had black mold on the inner sheer one - double yuck After a long day of traveling we didn't appreciate hearing vacuuming outside our door at 730pm & than again at 930pm. Only hubs had breakfast & coffee - which he said was good & hot!! They did welcome our pet & had a great area for walking & bathroom breaks for him. We thought the Mackinac City property was the worst IHG property we've stayed at - this one is slowly catching up to it, sadly! The newly renovated lobby floor looks spectacular-as does the fire pit & patio!! That was being remodeled last time we stayed here!

I had the whitefish for dinner with potato puree and garlic green beans. It was very good. I would recommend. We also started with the Yucatan shrimp which was full of flavor. We enjoyed dipping the toasted points into the sauce. Yum! Honestly I didn't go in to my stay here with the highest expectations, but I was very impressed with the service at the hotel and restaurant as well as the cleanliness of our room. Lots of friendly smiling and welcoming staff. The bed was very comfortable and the beach is dynamic. Perfect view of Lake Huron, and very enjoyable day or night. We had the breakfast both mornings of our stay, and I can only give that 2 stars. It was ok. Felt like a typical "breakfast included" kind of deal. The staff was very kind and attentive, and the restaurant was very clean. The food was 2 stars. Just basic. Coffee was great and like I said I was pleasantly surprised with my stay. I will definitely consider staying here again because the views and beach were gorgeous, the clean rooms and friendly staff are so important, and you're a hop, skip and a jump from Shepherd's Ferry to Mackinac Island from the hotel.

I loved that we had our own little patio on the landing overlooking the water - a great spot to sit outside in the morning having coffee. We were greeted warmly when we arrived, super easy check in. Nice table to play games on, the fridge was a good size, two tvs (one per room) and easy to walk to a ferry to the island! The attached restaurant had good food, too. I don't know what the prices were when he started coming here, but I was able to book 2 rooms for three nights for cheaper than it costs to stay on the island in one room for one night. Sorry about the flashback to math class, people, but this is an economics lesson where you'll want to pay attention. There is a log cabin kind of feel to the architecture. And, in another throwback to a bygone age, the doors use keys...actual, metal keys, not plastic cards. Outside the room, you'll find gas barbecue grills with tongs and other tools to enjoy your home away from home. While the room itself seems humble, it does contain most of the amenities you would expect. It's spacious. The beds are reasonably comfortable. There is a mini fridge, but unfortunately no microwave. And the restaurant is just a few steps away from your room, and it's excellent. One thing you would not expect, however, is a mind-boggling array of on-demand programming on your flat screen TV. Dozens of shows are available from maybe 30 different networks. And, it's no extra charge for any of it. Even if it weren't for all this, the location itself is perfect. Directly across the street are two Mackinac Island ferry terminals. I'm not exaggerating: they're literally across the street. That $27 you pay for a round-trip ticket is a heck of a lot cheaper than you would pay each day to stay on the island. Economics, people. So, go ahead and get a second mortgage to pay for a stay on the island. I will keep on coming here and enjoying all the great benefits, while also having money left over to actually pay for things to do on the island.
