DO NOT STAY HERE! One of the two worst hotels I've ever stayed in, and I traveled for a living for almost 12 years. Where to start? Flies swarming throughout the room and dead flies on the A/C unit and on the carpeting, which did not get vacuumed during our 3-day, 2-night stay; stained, thin towels; lumpy old mattress that had to be 30 years old (impressions from where everyone else has slept for the past several decades); filthy stained carpet in all of the common areas, stains on the walls, bags of garbage left in the hallway during the entire duration of our stay; an outlet with no face plate in the hallway upstairs (small safety issue); did I mention FLIES? The ice machine didn't work, nor did the vending machine. Also felt like I was crashing the party every time we entered or exited the hotel lobby, as guests (or heaven forbid employees or their family & friends?) were camped just outside of the main entry doors, smoking, cussing, fighting, and listening to loud music every day...the place felt so dirty and uncomfortable I thought about sleeping in my car the second night. Couldn't get a different hotel reservation nearby so toughed it out. No exaggerations here, DO NOT STAY at the Baymont Inn in Waunakee!

There were equally as many flies on the floor, too.

Gross! From the stained carpets to the dirty walls and three day old garbage in the hallway, this is not a good place to stay. Our towels were stained, the toilet seat was missing one attachment bolt so it slid all over, The clientele made the outdoor seating area their own personal party spot with cigarettes, foul language, and music coming from a nearby parked car with its windows open. And not a single mask to be seen, except for the manager AFTER I commented and reminded him that the state enacted a mandatory mask mandate. The staff we spoke with projected an attitude of helpfulness, but they couldn't overcome the back door which was propped open with a piece of mulch all night, an electric outlet in our hallway without a cover, someone's cell phone charger plugged in overnight outside their room. Oh, when a room says "no smoking" does that apply to marijuana, too? Not for some people here!

Room phone literally with NO buttons!

GrandStay Hotel & Suites Waunakee - Madison

Service = * Amenities = *…read moreCleanliness = * Value = * I booked a King Suite at $200/night rate. Expectations for that rate is to have at least an average level of service. I rarely write poor reviews but this visit warranted a warning to others. Where do I start? How about at the very beginning. Started with check in. No one at desk. Required to ring a door bell. Took about 5 minutes for someone to race down from second floor. I had reserved a king suit room. During the stay, evening, night and day no one was ever at the front desk. Only on Sunday when I checked out was someone at the front desk. Upon entering room, noticed dust and lint balls on floor and around furniture. A side entrance had a sign about keeping mud outside. Well, there was a mud footprint inside the entrance and remained there the three days we were there so obviously no one cleaned the hallways or entrance area. Later had ants all over a bowl in my room. They didn't have cups for the coffee machine, no creamer/sugar or stirrers. The only Vending machine they had was broken. Sign said go to front desk for any soda or water. But no one was ever staffed at the front desk during our stay. TV in bedroom kept going in and out of service. I checked all the connections but that didn't help. No one in pool area because pool wasn't heated and temperature in pool room was colder than the lobby. Water temperature in pool was probably 70 degrees or less. I really don't expect much from the free continental breakfast but this reached a low for me. The menu consisted of waffles, breads, bagels, apples or bananas (with a sign to wash fruit before eating them), yogurt, watered down orange juice or apple juice and watered down/weak coffee. Gas station food is better. I would never stay there at a $200/night rate again. Correction, I wouldn't stay there if someone else paid for the room. I would rather stay further away and drive to have even an average experience at an average hotel.

Hotel didn't offer a refund on price difference but gave us a $15 Starbucks card (neither of us go there). No iron/board in room. Very limited On Demand tv channels. Very small fridge, no microwave. Tons of kids in pool at night. Went for a swim/soak in hot tub next morning at 8 am but pool doesn't open until 9 am! With checkout at 11 and showers and packing up to go, swim didn't happen. Several light switches inoperable and limited lighting, two broken alarm clocks , no couch in suite and very uncomfortable furniture to watch tv so had to watch in bed. Just really disappointing all the way around. Would NOT recommend.

The room was partially clean on arrival (bed was made, bathroom had dirt tracks/marks on the floor). I didn't make use of anything else in the hotel, mainly there to sleep. Location was fantastic though, near Costco and short driving distance to places to eat.

It is also conveniently located, close to several good places to eat, and it is a relatively short distance away from the state Capitol. The young lady that helped me during my check-in was professional and efficient, although I did feel a little like I was being interrogated. She asked me several questions when I was checking in, all of which should have been easily accessible to her from my reservation. This was annoying when I was already exhausted after making a long journey to this destination. The grounds at this hotel are clean, as was the lobby and other common areas. The lobby, dining area and hallways were also nicely decorated with a warm and classy/rich feel. My room was clean and quiet during my stay, and this hotel is appears safe for its customers. This hotel has all the things that one would expect from any hotel, although it did not have a microwave. It seems that more hotels are deciding to refrain from providing a microwave for their guests, and this hotel is one of them. This is unfortunate for customers like me who regularly use them. This hotel has a nice Bistro/Bar in the lobby where they offer snacks and meals, as well as Starbucks items and alcoholic drinks. This service is nice, but they are not open 24/7 for their guests. They are typically open in the morning for three hours, and then again in the evening for five hours. As is typical for most Courtyard by Marriott hotels, this hotel does not provide a free breakfast for their guests, which is a deal-breaker for some potential customers. At the very least, it would be nice if they provided free coffee for their guests. One other minor annoyance was that both side entrances to the hotel did not work during my entire stay. At many hotels, one can enter from multiple locations, one of which includes the main entrance through the lobby. I often like to enter or exit through one of the side entrances that is closer to my hotel room. These side entrances almost always require their guests to use their hotel key to gain entry, but the card readers for both side entrances were not functioning. This was disappointing and inconvenient. Overall, I enjoyed staying at this hotel; however, there were a few minor annoyances that, if corrected, would have made this hotel worthy of a better rating from me. However, the things that bothered me may fine with you. If so, the good attributes here are that this hotel is safe, clean, quiet, and an enjoyable place to stay.

The staff were very professional and friendly, the rooms were very spacious and very clean. Linen and towels were fresh and the room smelled very fresh, they must use great cleaning products. The beds were very comfortable, and the hotel in general was very quiet, even though they had a lot of people staying there while we were there. The free breakfast was very good, and a lot of variety, including hot and cold foods, cereals, bagels, yogurt, and the coffee was very good. My only complaints are, the pool water was freezing, obviously not heated, since it seemed that no one ever used it. And the Hot Tub was a big disappointment, I was looking forward to using it, but saw there was a bunch of black dirt at the bottom of the hot tub, looked like it had not been cleaned in a very long time. Big health hazard there! I still gave this motel 4 stars because of the many positives this motel had like great rooms, staff and breakfast, but the pool and hot tub need staff attention.

The hotel as a whole feels small with low ceilings and narrow corridors. Our double-bed-room was on the first floor off of the lobby. To our surprise, it had a 'full' kitchen in there, with a large fridge, stovetop, and even a dishwasher. I suppose people could stay for lengths of time here? We spent very little time in our room, apart from sleeping, so the only thing that got use was the bed. Oh and the bathroom/shower, which were clean but certainly outdated. Bed was just fine, not uncomfortable, but perhaps some new pillows are in order. We had a few items from the breakfast bar in the morning--subpar food but does the trick if you're looking to get your fill. They had everything from potatoes, eggs, and sausage patties to yogurt and cereal. Pros: Free parking for guests, including underground heated options. Front desk staff was very friendly. And I'd say the best thing about this hotel is the location, as it's right within a big outdoor shopping/restaurant center. Walkable to plenty of places down the street.

This Staybridge was relatively close to Camp Randall and the reviews through Yelp seemed to confirm that this was a good hotel. Unfortunately that was not the case. Finding the hotel and securing a parking spot in the lot was easy, and check in was relatively straightforward. The clerk was friendly and provided the necessary information efficiently. Nice that the pool is open 24 hours, not that we ended up using it. The clerk also referenced a note about there only being one bed; which is fine since I reserved a room with just one bed... After check in we entered the hotel and noticed a smell in the hallway that my husband likened to a porta potty. The smell did not get much better when we entered our room; it smelled stale, as though the room had been closed up for a long time and just recently placed back into service. Perhaps that was the case given the hasty patch job we noticed above the shower in the bathroom. Speaking of the shower, the pressure was decent, which surprised me given how much water was still coming out of the bath faucet while the shower was running. Points for using the refillable bottles of shampoo, body wash, and conditioner, but the bottles were not very full--good thing we weren't staying long! Also disappointing was how disgusting the fridge was. The outside of the unit looked like someone had shaken a can of orange Fanta, opened the can, and then walked away. Again, glad that we only spent one night here.
