My boyfriend and I decided to go kayaking last Friday to get outdoors and see some nature during this horrible quarantine we are going through. Shannon, Jeff, and Cody were so awesome! They made it possible so we never were in physical contact with anyone and the kayaks and paddles were disinfected. Enough about the pandemic, I want to talk about the amazing kayaking trip we made down the Cane Bayou to Lake Pontchartrain!! It was a gorgeous day and we saw 3 gators! It was beyond peaceful and therapeutic to paddle through birds chirping, cane reeds sounding like waterfalls in the wind, and finally arriving to the beauty of the glistening lake. It was about a mile paddle and absolutely beautiful. You paddle through 3 noticeably different ecosystems towards the lake. Can't wait to come back here when things get back to normal!! (Also-the main shop has every beer, wine, soda, and snack you could want! They also had seafood plates and boiled crawfish) read more

Super nice staff and you can get a bite to eat at the check in place (crawfish pie or a burger!) before heading down to the loading dock! We saw a 12 foot gator while we rounded the bend and we thought he was FAKE! Time of a lifetime. read more

Best part of my most recent Louisiana adventure. An authentic adventure like no other. This tour delivers a REAL Rural Louisiana kayak swamp memory! Paddle away through the swamps... So beautiful and full of nature's beauty and it's sounds. The real treat is getting to the mouth of Lake Pontchartrain.... WOW! The sun setting... dock your kayak, roll up your pant legs and wade in the super warm water.... taking some amazing photos! JUST MAGICAL.... The real treat is.....ALL OF IT !!!! My Husband and I had an amazing time on the "Self Guided Kayak Tour" we drove over from New Orleans for a different type of swamp tour than the typical airboat or large pontoon style tours. We checked in at their shop which was full of all types of drinks, snacks, fishing supplies and even a small restaurant. After check in they send you about 4 miles down the road to the Cane Bayou boat launch. There we met up with Dez who got us all set up. Very cool dude who made us feel comfortable and was able to answer any questions we had. Dez got us into our kayaks and we were on our way. To be clear, the staff is just there to get you started, once you are on the water you on your own! My Husband and I have only ever Kayaked 1 other time and this was a breeze! So if you are a newbie this still a great option for you. We paddled along the Cane Bayou and came across so many turtles out sunning themselves. Just a few minutes into our adventure we came across a baby gator! We probably saw 5-8 gators in total of all different sizes, even a BIIIIG one who could have been 10-12 feet. We saw many fish jumping and a half full of crane. This tour is extremely safe, the gators couldn't care any less that you are there so don't be nervous! We are so happy we took this adventure and will recommend it to anyone coming this way. Tip* if you are coming from NOLA, it is best to rent a car. The drive is about 45 minutes from the city and after check in you have another 4 miles to go. Having a car is much more simple and cost effective for sure! read more

Great spot for a socially distances getaway! My boyfriend and I wanted to do something outdoors and COVID safe so we decided to go kayaking. Outside of a bit of a struggle finding the launch spot for the kayaks, the process was smooth from start to finish. You can rent single or double kayaks, and if you want to ensure that you'll have a spot you can book online beforehand. The kayak course was very calm with tons of beautiful scenery to soak in. Very beginner friendly for those of you that are afraid of it being too challenging! Would highly recommend for anyone trying to get out into nature and away from COVID, they even sprayed down all the equipment when we were done. read more

The staff was great, friendly and helpful. Would definitely go again. I actually ended up running over an alligator... after which I think I beat the world's record for paddling! I did apologize. I did the run down to Lake Pontchartrain which has incredible lush swamps which slowly give way to march land before you come to the lake. What a great place to rent kayaks for exploring the Louisiana wetlands. It seems like most places in the area only offer guided tours, so this was just what we were looking for to explore on our own. We stopped in on our way to New Orleans from Florida and rented a tandem kayak for $50 to paddle on Cane Bayou. The folks were very nice and we were on the water in no time. It only took 2 hours to get down to Lake Pontchartrain and back, but in the Summer sun that was plenty. We saw several fish jumping and birds along the shore. The route took us from a densely wooded area right to the lake. It was around lunch time on a Friday and we only saw one other person in a fishing boat. It was definitely a fun way to get out on the water. read more

My wife and I rented a couple kayaks to travel down to Lake Ponchatrain via Cane Bayou. We got setup at the store and was met at the launch with the Kayaks ready to go in the water. Honestly, we were unsure about this venture when a friend suggested it but went along with the idea. The store itself is great and has a lot of fishing equipment and a few snacks. Drinks and beer are also available as is hot food in the back. You go in, sign your paperwork then follow the van with Kayak's/paddle boards to the boat launch. Marcus was who helped us and he was super nice, very informative and an all around nice and polite person. Don't forget to tip whoever helps you. Then, it's off you go. It's super peaceful and beautiful. A photographer's dream. On your way back, when you get back to the bridge you call and when you get back to the boat launch, they're there waiting to pick up the equipment. Great experience! My wife, 3 teenage daughters and I really enjoyed the Sunset Kayaking trip. Jeff, our guide, is very knowledgeable and conservative minded about the nature in the Cane Bayou area! If remote control vehicles are your thing , Jeff has all your needs. From RC cars to drones. If you are hungry, try their bbq lunches or new breakfast empanadas. And during crawfish season the best boiled seafood this side of the lake. And if you like to boil your own crawfish, they have the best prices on live crawfish. (In season) Did I mention they also have beer, bear and more beer? Beer for everyone's taste. They have literally over one hundred types. I stop in weekly to try a new beer every weekend. Did the self-guided kayak paddle on Cane Bayou - it was great! Was on the water in probably no more than 15 minutes after showing up (early) at their shop. The fellow (sorry, I've forgotten his name) gave me a nice rundown on what I'd see and the ecology of the Bayou. It's a beautiful place - amazingly peaceful. The kayak seemed almost to paddle itself (I'm no athlete), and, on a hot day, it was fun splashing around in Lake Pontchartrain before heading back up the Bayou. read more

5 stars, easy. We rented 2 bikes today and were super, super happy and satisfied. Here's why: 1) Shannon was very helpful and friendly and recommended us places to see, where to ride and where to eat 2) The prices were very fair- 5$ an hour or 18$ per day, and you pay the lowest of the two after returning the bike 3) The bikes were in really good condition, and we also received a map, helmets and a complementary drink 4) The store is located right next to a GREAT bike trail (Tammany trail) that goes all the way into Fountainbleau state park. It was a very fun and easy ride, straight and flat paved road with beautiful things to see along the way If you have ~half a day in the area, I highly recommend renting bikes from this great place, taking the trail all the way to the fountainbleau state park, spending some time on the white sand beach, spotting some gators in the lake and then riding back to Lacombe. When you are done there are several breweries in the areas that are worth a visit, and Shanon will be happy to recommend some more places :) read more
