As some other reviewers stated, yes the rooms are small.. but it's a historic hotel. If you've ever stayed anywhere historic, this is pretty common. Nothing unusual. The room was clean and pleasant. Due to it being a holiday, I'm sure the rate was a bit higher because this hotel is centrally located. This is the upside, you can walk to everything from the hotel. Parking was included and plentiful, and the self-check in/out was smooth. As some have noted, the instructions come by email so make sure you watch for that. Overall I have nothing bad to say about it- worked out great for us for what we wanted.

Never called or sent an email. I called them yesterday and could not talk to a manager. Called back today and they said to call Marriott corporate. So they took my money and never let me check-in or stay there. It's absolutely abysmal customer service. Marriott corporate is no help. If you're fine having them charge your card for $760 and you not get to stay there, then go ahead and book your stay here. Also CAUTION to families traveling from states away, imagine driving all this way to find out you have no place to stay and they took almost $1k of your money. I've stayed at Sawmill Creek before which is a beautiful resort and the only reason I booked at the Fairfield because of my loyalty to Marriott. Do not prepay here, they will take your money. I should have paid more attention to the 1 star reviews on google, trip advisor, and yelp.

I know I shouldn't complain since it was 'free', but there are standards. There were 4 of us in a room with 2 double beds. Each bed had 3 pillows. We asked for 2 extra pillows so each of us could have 2, clerk said there were no extras, people kept stealing them. Asked if the room next to us was available just to give us more room (adjoining) she said they were booked up. Mind you we never seen a whole lot of cars in the parking lot the whole time we were there. (So seriously, go get a couple of pillows from other rooms). The door to our room was very hard to open, but you had to make sure and push shut or it wouldn't latch. The biggest complaint is the carpet. It was filthy. At first we were making fun of one of my sisters about her feet, how dirty they looked, thinking it was due to a new pair of dark brown flip-flops she had. But I wear socks at night with my pj's and the bottom of my socks proved it wasn't her flip-flops. Do better BW!

My door key would not work 8 times and kept having to get new keys. The one side had no water (the sink was there but the water spigot didn't work). Also no middle table between the 2 queen beds. Bedspread on one bed had a large stain (unknown origin, don't want to know!). Also no toilet and no shower on the one side. So the suite is like a military dorm room for low ranking military "boots" like I was back in the day. I've actually stayed in better squad bays on several military bases that were better equipped with this no-frills suite that we paid $260 for. Never again, we'll go across to Put-in-bay and pay less and already be on the island. Drinks and food: The bar downstairs after 8pm turns into Dante's 3rd level of Hell and the food is probably microwaved.... from the outside bar (which has limited shade so if it's hot bring your own beach umbrella) we ordered the grilled boneless chicken wings; tasted like someone diced up some frozen chicken breasts and tossed them into the microwave, then threw some watery and feeble attempt at buffalo sauce into an aluminum foil plate. On the good side of the wings, they ARE real chicken, and the "buffalo" sauce did not taste bad, it was just watery and lacking any kick. They should change the name to watery semi-buffalo flavored chicken chunks. The price wasn't bad either, about a pound of chicken chunks for $11, which is reasonable for a beach bar. The pina-coladas were great and perfect on a hot day. Pool area: Pool was small but seemed clean. Couldn't use it because it was full of heavily intoxicated folks almost completely surrounding the pool sides so we couldn't even get in without having a sexual harassment complaint lodged against us for accidental groping. Parking: Ample parking. Location: Directly across the street from the beach and a very short walk across the bridge to the Jet Express to Put-in-bay. Assessment: NO

When we asked to just provide our last name, she told us there was no way to do this without the number. Ok we said, let me look for the email. Gina replied that this number would have only been given over the phone and not sent in an email. Really?? I've never stayed in another hotel in America that works like this. Room smells nice. * The back deck and private marina offer pretty views of the Portage River and the Port Clinton Yacht Club. * It is literally 2 blocks from the Port Clinton Jet Express terminal for trips to Put-in-Bay. Leave your car at the hotel...no drinking and driving, and no extra cost to park your car. * There is an on property bar on the river called The Bait House, that has fun drinks, live "Jimmy Buffett" style music (Boat Songs), comfy seating, fire pits, corn hole and again, steps from your room. * There are several restaurants close by, including MCCARTHY'S Irish Pub and Restaurant, Rosie's Bar and Restaurant, A la Carte (Nice Breakfast and after-hours spot), Sloopy's Pizza (local place that delivers), Marco's Pizza, Subway, Wendy's, and Bootleggers...all within a few steps or a couple of blocks. * The folks who run it (Deb) and the housekeepers are very kind, and make efforts to keep it looking pretty with flowers and free of tourist messes. * The WiFi was good. The outdoor pool and deck literally butts against the shores of Lake Erie. I booked everything online, blind and I am so glad I found this hotel. Our room was on the second floor #204, and it was gorgeous!! There is a entry area with microwave and refrigerator, branches into narrow area with couch (hideaway bed) table and chairs. The bathroom was awesome, a jacuzzi tub and a second normal tub with shower. Awesome!!! There is a large King bed very very comfortable only thing needed was more pillows!!! There was a nice flat screen TV with about 40 channels via Spectrum Cable and a lovely sunroof area with table and chairs that looked out onto the deck below and the gorgeous stunning lake which was still mainly frozen!!! It was so gorgeous!!! The view stunning!!! I can't wait to go back again!!!! Definitely will go again and highly recommend this hotel to other travelers!!!

This hotel is the absolute worst hotel we have ever stayed in…read more At check in, I had to stand next to a guest who had checked in the previous night and was trying to find out WHERE HIS DRIVERS LICENSE WAS. The clerk that checked him in the night before had kept his drivers license! That should have been the first clue about this place. Then, apparently there is little, to no training for new employees. In front of the other guest, the clerk READ MY NAME, ADDRESS & PHONE NUMBER OUT LOUD, INCLUDING THE ROOM NUMBER I WAS CHECKING IN TO. I was not traveling alone, but I still did not want the other guest to know our room number. I told the clerk to put us in another room, AND NOT SAY THE NUMBER OUT LOUD THIS TIME. I explained how he was putting a guest at risk by revealing all of their information & room number. The young man was genuinely sorry and it was teachable moment for him. When we entered our room the smell was horrendous, it smelled of cigarette smoke, but we thought we could tolerate it for one night. I went to put my toiletries in the bathroom and I noticed there was only one towel. Then I saw the coiled cord for the hairdryer had what appeared to have dried vomit on it. There was no way we were staying in this room. I asked to be moved to a different room. The desk clerk came to see if we needed help moving our things to the new room, and he & I realized the first room not only smelled of cigarette smoke, but also urine! The new room was somewhat better, but still not great. The air still smelled horribly stale, there was mold in the bathroom, and the mattress was horrible. But the worse thing is that there was only one lock on the door, not the secondary latch that other hotels have. The young man that worked the front desk was very nice and wanted to make our stay as good as possible. It is unfortunate that he works at this hotel! I would give him a great reference if he tries to find a better place to work! I strongly recommend staying ANYWHERE but this place.
