I've been a patient at Bayshore Dental for over 20 years, and it's disappointing to say that ever since the practice changed ownership, both the customer service and quality of care have steadily declined. One of my first experiences after the transition was when I scheduled an appointment with my longtime dentist, Dr. Aguilar. Instead, I was seen by another provider without any notice. She immediately began aggressively working under my gums without explaining what she was doing. It was so painful that I finally stopped her and asked, "What are you doing? You haven't explained anything to me?" That experience was upsetting enough that I requested never to be scheduled with her again. Another frustrating experience occurred when I scheduled an appointment online for a teeth cleaning, an exam, and impressions for a night guard. After my cleaning, which was performed by a male fill-in dentist, the receptionist told me that neither Dr. Aguilar nor the fill-in dentist had time to perform my exam because they needed to go to lunch. I explained that I had taken time off work specifically for this appointment, but it made no difference. Her exact response was, "You can't expect them not to eat lunch." While I certainly don't expect anyone to skip lunch, I do expect my appointment to be scheduled appropriately so that the services I booked are actually provided. Since then, I have repeatedly come in for cleanings, including an earlier-than-normal cleaning that I requested and my regular six-month cleaning. In both cases, no exam was performed. At my last cleaning, around 5:30 p.m., I asked why I hadn't been examined. The assistant casually said, "Did you want me to get the dentist?" By that point, it was clear the office was wrapping up for the day, so I declined. Regular exams should not depend on whether a patient remembers to ask for one. To make matters worse, the night guard I received cracked completely after only about three weeks of use. I called at the end of June to report it and was told someone would follow up. Three weeks passed with no response. I called again and was apologized to and promised a call back by the end of the day. Again, nothing. When I called a third time, instead of apologizing and working toward a solution, the office manager, Bianca, argued with me and insisted their notes showed that I had refused my exams. It would've been very simple for the manager to apologize for all of the issues and try to accommodate me in some way, but instead, she chose to challenge me. While I've had positive experiences with Dr. Aguilar and with an occasional fill-in dentist from another office, the quality of care has become hit or miss depending on who you happen to see. The inconsistency, combined with the poor communication and lack of follow-through, has been extremely disappointing. After more than 20 years as a loyal patient, I expected much better. It's sad to see a practice I once trusted decline to the point where I no longer feel confident recommending it. read more

This was my first time at Bayshore Dental, and I was referred there by my primary dentist for wisdom teeth removal. I went in expecting a straightforward procedure that had already been evaluated through multiple X-rays beforehand. At no point during any of those prior appointments was I told that I would need additional services outside of what my insurance covered. What happened instead was honestly shocking. It wasn't until I was already in the chair, hooked up to all the equipment, and literally seconds away from being put under anesthesia that one of their assistants approached me with consent forms for "additional services" totaling $1,600. This was the first time I had ever heard about these "needed" services. They told me my insurance didn't cover these services and that the surgeon would not perform the procedure unless I agreed to pay. Being put in that position, vulnerable, prepped for surgery, and then pressured to sign forms for thousands of dollars that were never previously disclosed, it felt completely inappropriate. When I refused and pushed back, the price suddenly dropped from $1,600 to $550 after someone went back to speak with them. That alone raised serious red flags. If these charges were legitimate and necessary, why were they never mentioned during the multiple X-rays and consultations leading up to surgery? Why wait until I was strapped into the chair and about to go under anesthesia? I ended up leaving and sitting in my car while my primary dentist tried to sort it out. I no longer felt comfortable proceeding there after how the situation was handled. Now I have to delay getting my wisdom teeth removed for another month or two which is extremely inconvenient considering that me and my partner both took time off of work to make time for the surgery that was supposed to happen. This experience felt like a last-minute pressure tactic to get additional money out of a patient who was already in a vulnerable position. Transparency and informed consent should happen before the day of surgery! Certainly not when someone is seconds away from being sedated. I would strongly advise anyone considering this office to get every single charge in writing well in advance and question anything that hasn't been clearly disclosed upfront. After 9 years, Bayshore Dental has finally lost me as a patient. This place used to be the best of the best. I was always well taken care of, had a consistent hygienist who did all of my cleanings, and I was always treated with gentle care after I expressed my past negative dental experiences. But this quality standard was lost from the day Dr. Rench retired. Over the last few years there has been high turnover, which should have been my first clue to leave. All of the hygienists I knew of were gone, as well at the front desk staff that had been a staple for years. Then I started getting emails promising teeth whitening when I scheduled my next cleaning, but this NEVER happened during my twice a year visits. One time when I brought it up at the end of my exam, I was told this wasn't an option. Then I proceeded to get the exact offer AGAIN in my email. I just had a cleaning yesterday and this was my final straw. I am generally a forgiving person, but I wish I had walked out of my appointment. I was shown to a room and the woman who I was assigned to (never met her before) told me she would polish and floss my teeth before I was seen by a hygienist. She then started polishing but something was wrong with the tools she was using. She polished my bottom teeth before she had to stop and try another hook up. Unfortunately for me, she completely wrecked my bottom gums. I have two PAINFUL sores from where the polisher cut them open. I knew in that moment that something wasn't right. While she was trying to fix the polisher, she left me sitting there in pain with a mouth full of gritty toothpaste. I had to finally ask to rinse it out because the mint flavor was burning my cut-up gums. Then a hygienist came in and was overly sweet, offered to apply fluoride to my gums and numb them before taking over. This was fine, but she refused to listen to me explain what had happened and she kept assuming that my gums are messed up in general, not from the woman I had just seen. The hygienist then proceeded to tell me I have very sensitive skin and should never whiten my teeth (which I have safely done for over 15 years). I felt like she had no clue what she was talking about and I had zero confidence in her. For all of my trouble, she gave me a quip toothbrush "on the house"-- yet ANOTHER item I was told was a freebie in an email from Bayshore. But that's probably not an actual offer either. On top of all of this, I had been informed during my last visit of early bone loss and that I would be needing some treatments done to help with this. No one acknowledged this whatsoever during my visit yesterday, which leads me to believe thay none of the staff bothered to look at my file or my x-rays from last time. I never saw anyone check anything on the computer in the room. And I'm not sure the hygienist who treated me during my last visit even works here anymore; I didn't recognize a single one of the staff members. This was also the first visit in 9 years that Dr Aguilar wasn't there to check my teeth, which leads me to wonder if he's gone as well. Long story short-- this place is not what it used to be. It used to be a 4.5 star - 5 star place. But that's a thing of the past. I cannot recommend going here anymore and I'm devastated to have to find a new dentist after almost a decade. read more

Last Labor Day weekend, I went in because my temporary crown was loose. I was in the middle of treatment, waiting on my permanent crown, and expected they would simply fix or replace the temp. Instead, the dentist working that day pulled off the crown along with my tooth. I was devastated. I was told there was nothing they could do except schedule me for a bridge or implant. I cried the whole way home. A month later, they finally sent me a referral to an oral surgeon to remove the broken tooth. When I arrived, the office was messy, the surgeon wasn't even wearing shoes, and the environment felt completely unsanitary. I was so uncomfortable and scared that I left. It's now been a year, and I still have a broken tooth. Only now am I finally getting the courage (and saving the money) to fix it properly. This has been a horrible, stressful, and emotional ordeal that I would never wish on anyone. read more

I'll start by saying I went to Bayshore Dental which was conducting business at Fuller Smiles, Fuller Smiles is located on 1046 Atlantic in Long Beach. The supporting staff were friendly, professional and kind. The reason I was there was to have a root tip extracted because it was left after my general couldn't get it all out. Knowing this was going to be difficult , I had contacted my insurance that said they covered Nitrous to eliminate the pain. Problem is; This place refused to honor the contracted insurance coverage. Without the gas , I experienced level 10 pain and asked him to stop the extraction as I really was hurting. He did stop after I screamed. I've experience nerve pain before but this was extreme! I was traumatized , really ! needed a few minutes to gather myself. I was more of less pushed out of the chair and I tried to let it go, but the disrespect and the fact that I knew I wasn't suppose to pay out of my pocket for Gas, Makes me warm folks, please check with your insurance before you have a procedure done. They wanted me to pay $350 out of pocket. read more

I'd been going here for about 20 years when it was Dr Rench. I had nothing but good things to say about the practice and reviewed it accordingly. When he retired, Dr Rench sold to some New York based company that smells an awful lot like a private equity. There's tons of turnover, as far as I can tell damn near everyone has left. Everyone is less experienced. There is only one dentist from Dr Rench's days who's undoubtedly a 1099. They're nickel and diming now, and the employees are visibly miserable, which tells you a lot about how they are treated. Some of the holdovers from before the sale expressed frustration with not only how they are treated but how they were expected to gouge customers before they left. Run, don't walk, it will only get worse over time. read more
