I have been a patient of Dr. Mendoza's for a couple of years now. Let me fill you in on my dental history. I had not been to a dentist since probably kindergarten or 1st grade. My single parent household did not have much money as I was growing up, so we would only go to the doctor for emergencies. And once I became a working adult, I never had health insurance at any of my jobs. When I finally obtained a job with benefits, I still put off visiting the dentist because I was afraid of the out of pocket costs. I had heard horror stories of out of pocket payments, even with the help of insurance. I knew I couldn't put it off any longer because in 2018 I developed a sizable hole on the top of one of my back molars. I did a lot of research on dentists before I called Dr. Mendoza's office to schedule an appointment. I explained that I hadn't been to a dentist in nearly 30 years. They were very reassuring, and I had an appointment lined up in no time. It was my first time getting dental x-rays, which showed how much damage my tooth was suffering. I would need a root canal, which they would be able to perform right away. Dr. Mendoza was so kind and gentle during the process, and always made sure I was ok and comfortable throughout. He made me laugh, and dispelled any fears I had. He took the time to ask me questions about myself, and get to know me as a person. I was surprised at how painless the procedure was!!! Now that I have had a root canal, I can say I would rather have a root canal than deal with a lot of other things in life LOL! Before the procedure started, April at the front desk brought me the invoice showing how much I would have to pay out of pocket, apart from my insurance coverage. I literally started crying, I was so grateful, because the price was so much less than I had feared! Dental work is not cheap, but it was way more affordable than I had ever imagined! I returned to the office a couple weeks later when my crown was ready, and had it installed. I like to refer to it as my bionic tooth. I have been back to the office regularly for my biannual cleanings. It is always a breath of fresh air to see April, the dental hygienist Teresa, and Dr. Mendoza. They truly treat you like family, and are some of the kindest people I have ever met. I wish all doctors and staff, and people in general, were as wonderful as they are! At the time of my writing this, I recently lost my job. They moved up my next biannual cleaning to see if my insurance would cover it before it ran out. It did not, but again, the out of pocket cost was incredibly affordable. I left the office that day feeling deeply cared for, as I do whenever I leave Dr. Mendoza's office. So even though I don't know when I will have insurance again, I feel good knowing I can still go in for whatever dental care I need. And did I mention they have a zen garden?!? The energy in the office is so calming and serene. The decor is gorgeous, and many of the items you see there have been contributed by Dr. Mendoza's patients. It is my favorite Dr's office by far. If you are scared of the dentist, scared about the cost of dental work, or are just looking for a new dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Mendoza and his incredible team! I truly could not have asked for a better doctor, and am so grateful to have found him! They are THE BEST! read more

Is Dr. Mendoza aware one of his hygienist is unfit for her job? It appeared the hygienist has a medical condition that causes her hands to tremble uncontrollably, she also wreaked of urine. She struggled so terribly doing my x-rays, I thought I was on a hidden camera reality show - I was not, but rather trapped in a waking nightmare. During the X-rays I repeated, "This hurts a lot," she just continued to apologize. I thought surely should would not be doing my cleaning, but she did, and every scrape was botched by her trembles. After the cleaning when I saw Dr. Mendoza, I did not know how to address the extreme pain and discomfort the hygienist inflicted on me, she was also sitting in the room next door, and all I wanted to do was leave. I burst into tears as soon as I got home, I was in disbelief over what had just occurred. I will be calling my insurance tomorrow and issuing a formal complaint, and pursuing further with the Dental Board of California. read more

Hands down the BEST dental office around! I chose Dr. Mendoza to be my new dentist this year after neglecting my oral hygiene for far too long. From my very first visit when I knew I had to have a root canal to my most recent visit for a cleaning, I have felt well cared for by Dr. Mendoza and his team every time I walk through their door. I never thought it would be possible to look forward to my next dental appointment, but now I do! Dr. Mendoza has a great personality, and I've done more laughing and joking with him than wincing or feeling scared while in his chair. Norma is awesome--so caring and professional. One thing I always make sure is that I have a good dentist because I like to keep my teeth in good condition! I've been a patient of Dr. Mendoza's for a little over 6 years. I came across this dental office because of the proximity to one of my previous residences. I enjoy the hassle free scheduling-lately they've began implementing more texts and online profiles to make/reschedule appointments which is great for the busy person! Dr. Mendoza is great! He takes his time getting to know you and your pearly whites! very patient, makes sure your questions are answered and that you are o.k during procedures. He's funny and professional. He has made his office aesthetically pleasing & provides a relaxing environment which helps those who aren't too thrilled when they visit dentists. April is great! I've had the pleasure of dealing with her since my first appointment, she's always available to answer insurance coverage questions as well. Lauren is awesome too! From my entire life, this is the best dentist I've seen. Dr. Mendoza is extremely cordial, nice, funny, and professional. This was my follow up appointment today and I was seen by his hygenist (forgot her name she wears glasses) and she was super sweet. While she was cleaning my teeth she kept asking if everything is okay and made the experience less painful as she could. The office itself is SUPER ZEN! I love the Japanese garden view and the water fountains in the front. The seats are also so comfy I could have fallen asleep. It definitely helps if you have anxiety about visiting the dentist, Dr. Mendoza's office is the most welcoming. His staff is friendly as well and does their best to help you out. I haven't been to the dentist in a very lonnnng time. Now that I have benefits through my job, I have been on a search of a new dentist and came across Dr. Mendoza's office. I had my first appointment for an exam on my wisdom teeth and the service was beyond excellent! April and Kim are so sweet and very welcoming. Norma is great as well and so helpful. Dr. Mendoza made me feel very welcomed as a first timer and answered all of my questions and concerns. I also love the atmosphere of the office. Dr. Mendoza is incredibly experienced, uses the newest technology, and really looks out for the best interest of his clients. He keeps an eye on my old fillings, will be proactive when he anticipates a problem, but won't proceed with anything unnecessary. I love his sense of humor, too! He's like the cool uncle you wanna sit by the bar with & share adventure stories! I'm so surprised they have so many good reviews!! I went in and sat down for my annual check up. The girl scraped my teeth and measured my gums than told me I need a deep cleaning but would have to schedule it another time because it takes about an hour. I said that's fine, knowing my insurance doesn't pay for that so I would have to skip it for now. I got my x-rays taken and than the dentist came in. He gave me a mirror and ask what I didn't like about my teeth. I said well do I have any cavities? He said my X-rays haven't come back yet. He was only interested in what cosmetic work he could do. I asked again about seeing my X-rays and he went on to tell me about his whitening system. I left never scheduling a new apt and never seeing my X-rays or knowing if I had any cavities. A few days later I get a bill over $100 for a deep cleaning I never got. Ridiculous!! Please another dentist if you just need a check up. This place is obviously just knows there's more money in cosmetic work and that's all they are interested in. read more

I had called last week during business hours and nobody answered. I called again the next day and left a voicemail asking for a call back...that was 4 days ago. I finally spoke to someone today who was kind of rude and not very nice. Her tone of voice gives me the vibe that she's over her job. The next available appointment was 5 weeks out. When I explained to her that I do not have an ID because my employer did not provide one she was silent for a couple of seconds (maybe she was frustrated?) and asked for my employer name and my SSN. I made an appointment but I'm probably going to cancel because this receptionist was rude as hell. read more

wanted to find a new DDS -particularly one on my HMO plan..... Solid DDS and great clinical staff. However I do know that the front office needs a bit of work- acknowledging patients, checking what insurance covers and even calling with appt reminders which out of 3 appts, the person only called once. I did call and talk to them when I had a problem and there was little concern shown . I don't even think my problems were mentioned to the dentist. If you can deal with doing the legwork and checking in with front office to make sure everything is covered, what the fees are and double-checking your appts, you have a very highly skilled dentist who is very helpful and his staff ( ask for Norma) is amazing read more

Dr. Mendoza is amazing. His entire staff makes you feel at home, and he truly cares about his patients. He has seen me after hours last minute when I was freaking myself out over a possible infection. He made sure I had all my questions answered, and was always there for any other inquiries I had! His office worked with me financially and allowed me to break the work I needed up so I could afford it. I felt NO PAIN at all when getting my work done. 100% would recommend! This is literally the best dentist I've ever been to and I'm very picky. Dr. Mendoza has given me several fillings and I have been totally satisfied with his work. The hygienists have also done great work for me. They go to great lengths to make sure you're comfortable (asking if you want to adjust the AC, giving you an ipod with headphones to listen to Pandora, and all the rooms look out onto their Japanese style garden!) and they are always honest and friendly with you which is super important to me. On my first visit I not only felt very welcomed by him and his staff, I was also impressed by the clean and zen office environment and felt at ease with Dr. Mendoza. He is knowledgeable in a down-to-earth way and seems to have a holistic mentality, thinking of the entire person and body and not just 'another set of teeth'. My two greatest concerns whenever I move to a new city are finding a new barber and finding a new dentist. it took me a while to find a barber that i like here. however, when it came to finding a new dentist in Long Beach I got it right on the first try. For some reason, even though I'm pushing the big 30 I still have baby tooth. Its in the back so nobody notices it, until I start showing it off at parties anyways. There is no adult tooth underneath, and if I lose it, I'll be forced to either have some kind of bridge work done, or get a fake tooth implanted. Neither sound fun, and for some reason I'm kind of fond of my baby tooth, we've been together a long time, so when the dental hygenist (who is actually a dentist herself) told me i had a huge cavity not on the top or even the side of the tooth, but on the bottom along the gum line, I started to get real nervous. Dr. Mendoza checked out the Xrays, confirmed her finding and asked me what I wanted to do. He didnt flinch or fuss when I said "keep it", he just got to work. While he admitted it was a challenge, and at times seemed genuinely perplexed by my freak tooth, he did save it. Apparently baby teeth and adult teeth are different in many ways, including the nerve endings. Aside from saving my baby tooth, he also cleaned up all the little tiny chips years of extremely agressive childhood teatherball playing had caused. They were tiny and I had really never even noticed them until he pointed them out. I also never wore my retainer, so some of my teeth's former straight glory had been lost. I was nervous when I heard the file, it sounds kind of like a drill, but 10 minutes after he started, he told me he was done, and showed me my newer straighter grin. Dr Mendoza is the best dentist I have ever had! He truly cares about his patients and it's as if he knows his them for years! His staff, receptionsits, hygienists etc are all very helpful and extra accommodating to their patients. I found him through my insurance who recommended him because he was close to my area. In the past I would go to Fullerton or Orange for mediocre dentists however, Dr. Mendoza is the cream of the crop. There are not enough words to describe how amazing Dr. Mendoza is!!! I had a very bad Intermatic experience with Dr. around the corner at American Dental, and Dr. Mendoza corrected everything the other dentist did wrong. Not only was he kind and patient with me, he was also funny and very thorough in his explanation with everything he was doing. He is very knowledgeable and has been working for over 30 years.
