The advice is sound (have been told not to get the work done) workmanship is precise and turnaround time is very reasonable. This is not your regular-degular "Dry cleaner" alterations, these are professional tailors. So come correct as, this is mom&pop shop ran by a very kind old couple. The prices here are not cheap ($205 for blazer), but hear me out the quality is top notch and you cannot tell any work was done at all. The alterations were finished within a couple days but believe they requested a week's time for optimal efficiency. Wouldn't always recommend due to price (can get it done for half the price) for regular work but for bigger events such as weddings, we ball. read more

They added sleeves to my wedding dress from extra material it was costly but gave me the dress of my dreams. She has a good eye for proportions and what's flattering for different body types. After getting pinned, I waited two days until it was ready for pickup and WOW it looked so great on my figure. Bayside Custom Tailors is an outstanding establishment! I found out about them through Yelp and decided to check them out by having them hem a pair of my jeans. They did an excellent job, so I brought them several pairs of pants and a pair of khakis and they knocked it out of the park again! Then I decided to bring them some beautiful dress shirts that have been sitting in my closet, because I only wear them with suits (they're just a touch too big on me). I normally don't leave reviews, in fact this is my first review ever. So that alone should speak volumes. I brought in 3 garments; 2 dress pants and 1 heavy winter wool jacket. I discussed the issues with the pants first. They briefly analyzed both items and knew it would be something not worth the expense to repair. So there's your honesty factor right off the bat. I find that to be quite endearing. Now for the greatest issue, my winter coat. The inside sleeve connection to the main fabric of the jacket was badly torn from over-stretching. Not only was it getting progressively worse each and every time I wore this coat, it was also starting to pull the stuffing inside out - in a nutshell; it was atrocious! So again, all three of us talked and discussed how to go about fixing it. I expressed the reasons how the coat reached that point (coat was tight on the chest area) and together we came up with a solution. Extra high quality fabric was placed at the connection area to allow for easy wear of the coat and stretching if needed. I could not believe how great the end result was, it was truly a work of art. In fact, the coat is 2X better than when I purchased it! The cost was justified. It was reasonably high but well worth the expense. All their hard work made this coat look brand new!! I'll make this easy for everyone reading, since I mainly look for pros/cons bullet points when scanning through yelp reviews: PROS: -Workmanship -Constructive collaboration; we looked at several fabrics to use and shared ideas -High quality material and expert design strategies to avoid future issues -Honesty CONS: Really aren't any except one that I will mention (even though i am a firm believer of you get what you pay for) -Reasonably high pricing I will be using this shop for any other fabric needs. read more

We recently brought in two of my husband's Brooks Brothers suits in for some major alterations on Monday morning. The alterations included having the sleeves shortened and buttons moved, jackets and pants hemmed. The price was a bit on the higher end, (more along the lines of what we've paid for similar alterations in Manhattan). However, this was TOTALLY WORTH IT! The work is impeccable--you can't even tell the suit was altered and the suits were ready Friday afternoon. We will definitely return the next time we need alterations. read more

I lost a bunch of weight, so I brought in a suit to be altered. It went from a suit that was comfortable to something I could move my arms in, and is totally unwearable. They said "it is a suit, it is supposed to fit that way" As a guy who normally wears bespoke (which is what they were altering) I know better. I have to say that this tailor is the best I've seen. I bought two suits that I needed to lengthen the sleeves on and I took one to my regular dry cleaner and they really messed it up. You could see the fold they put in it. Then I brought the other suit to this place and when I got it back, they did an excellent job! It looked like it came out of the factory. Pricey, but worth it. I was looking for a good tailor near my neighborhood to shorten the length of my suit. based on the reviews here, I decided to visit Bayside Custom Tailors. the lady was very friendly and felt very welcomed when I walked through the door. I wanted to shorten the suit from the top but they examined the fit and told me that it was not possible with the cut of the suit. They seemed to know what they were talking about. The cost of the job was a bit pricey but I think the quality of the work was worth it. If you need work done on an "expensive" piece of clothing, I would recommend bringing it here. Otherwise, for simple/basic jobs, it may cost more than the clothing itself. I had a good experience. The suit fits perfectly now. These tailors are amazing. I have used multiple tailors in NYC and Bayside Custom Tailors are by far the best. I have taken shirts and pants with diffcult alterations to them that other places wouldn't touch, and they have been fixed flawlessly. I've been using this tailor for years now and find the work is excellent. The prices were always bordering on high...and now they've increased. I used to pay $11 for a hem...then it was $12...now it's $15!! That's a big jump!! I left there yesterday paying $65 for 2 pairs of pants that were taken in ($25 each!!) and 1 hem!! Come on...really? I'm petite so I do a lot of alterations on my clothes. They never offered a discount for all the business I've brought to them (unless I asked, which was maybe twice) and even then gave it reluctantly. Still, I've recommended them to numerous people. This should be 5 star rating but I had to knock 2 stars off bc they just don't appreciate loyal/steady customers. I'm actually on Yelp looking for a new tailor. read more

I just picked up my bridesmaid's dress from the tailors. I learned of it through yelp reviews, and I made the 35 minute long trek into no where in Flushing/Bayside to drop off my dress. I just lost about 35 pounds over the months and dropped 4 dress sizes. It goes without saying that I needed to get extensive work done on my dress. I had to get the top, sides, and arm holes cut and resized. The total came out to $120, which is incredibly expensive (and why I am docking off one star). However, when I picked up the dress today and tried it on, it fit great and the workmanship was top notch. You couldn't tell that the dress was altered in any way and the seams were near perfect. I also have to say that the people who work at the tailors here are friendly. If i ever need to get an expensive or tricky item tailored, I'll be sure to be return. read more

Saw the great reviews and decided to use Bayside Tailors. When I went to pick up my bridesmaid dress I couldn't even tell it was altered! The tailoring job was great, but, I noticed 4-5 stains on the front (they look like water stains) of my silk dress. This dress was brand new. I tried it on in my house once and then once at this shop for the tailor. The woman denied having stained my dress saying "Sometimes new dresses come like that." I wouldn't have brought a new dress home if it had stains. I refused to pay $75 (which was expensive to begin with), and got the price knocked down to $65 (the woman became short and rude with me after the price adjustment). I am now paying $11 at a cleaners to have the stains removed, and they don't even know if it'll come out of the dress. I'm glad I have a month until the wedding so I can figure out what to do. read more

I have never written a yelp review but felt compelled to write about Bayside Custom Tailors because they are THAT good. I have brought two dresses here to be tailored (one simpler than the other, but both at least somewhat complicated), and both times I couldn't have been happier with the work. This most recent dress I picked up this week; it was a (very) expensive Cavalli dress that was probably designed for a 6' tall model (not me!), but I loved it so much I brought it to the tailor to make it work. The dress is a beautiful silk fabric (very difficult to work with), and extensive alterations were needed (there was a silk lining, had to take out the zipper, had to make a new seam in the back, etc. etc.). The owners conferred over how best to make it work, and when I picked it up, it was absolutely perfect. Thank you so much for your hard work on this dress - and all the other alterations I will be bringing to you in the future! I would trust them with just about anything! read more
