I got my wedding dress altered here for a very reasonable price. I did call a couple other places but went here first given the amazing Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed, the service was great and I gained a lot of confidence about my dress being handled by someone else over the course of my first appointment. My wedding was last week (august) and I brought it in late March, which was pretty early considering I only needed bustle and length adjustment (it was a corset style so I did not need a bust adjustment). Because of this, my alteration price was on the lower end of the scale. Because I came on a weekday, it was a lot less busy and I could ask many questions and also walk around with the proposed length. My next appointment was in May to check the length, and the bustle would be complete in June. In June, I brought a bridesmaid to learn how to bustle my dress. The full length and bustle length were perfect. They did a great job! Technically I could pick up the dress and leave with it at that point, but as someone that lives in a small apartment and needed to hide the dress from her fiancé, it was easier to just have them store the dress for me closer to the date I needed the dress, so I didn't pick up until mid July. Overall it was a fantastic experience. During the wedding, I was able to do my first dance very smoothly without tripping in the wedding dress. Efficient service and results! I needed to shorten the hem of my bridesmaid dress by about 3 inches and it only cost $45 cash. There were some others picking up their clothing but otherwise I didn't have to wait long. They created a small room on the left side of their stall for changing clothes, and they provide a few shoes of various heights inside the room if you don't bring the shoes you plan to wear. Three days after I gave my dress to them, I got a text from them saying my dress was ready for pickup. The final result looked good. The dress didn't look exactly same as it did from the manufacturer, but the needlework was good and the thread color was close enough to the dress color that it wasn't noticeable unless you looked at it closely. read more

This place is located within one of those Flushing shopping malls. It's a pretty small shop and I was a little skeptical at first BUT they did an AMAZING job. They had to alter the waist & length -- they suggested to also alter the off the shoulder sleeves so it would hang looser and it looked amazing! This might possibly be the best tailor I've ever been to. I say that because of their incredible attitude toward customer service. When I called them a few weeks ago about a leather jacket that had worn-out lining and broken pockets (this combination led to me losing things that slid out of the pocket, and right through the lining!), they told me their hours that day and the location. After we hung up, they texted me some introductory information including details about their location (finding them is a little confusing within a small indoor "mall") and such. That was a first! Normally, I might remove a star from my review if there are issues with finding parking and such, but I have to say that their attitude, effort and quality were so awesome, it makes up for any of these incidental hardships. Finding them really wasn't so bad, and parking a car around Main St... it is what it is. These guys looked at the jacket, gave me what I consider to be a fair quote for all of that work ($175 or so) and told me it would take a few weeks since they had to order the lining. They showed me some fabric samples to choose from. They texted me a little more than a week later that the jacket was ready. When I got there and tried on the jacket, I felt like it may have been better than new (though I bought the thing from a thrift store). The lining fits snugly, the pockets are perfect, and my jacket has been born again! One thing to be aware of... it' CASH ONLY. I had to walk across the street to a bank to get cash from the ATM. I've only been to a professional tailor once, and she was my bridal gown/bridesmaid dress tailor. She moved out to Northport, LI and I was left without a tailor in Queens. Due to my 5' 1'' petite size, I have a guilty pleasure of ordering maxi dresses that I know won't fit. I searched tailors near me, and found Main Plaza Master Tailors. All the reviews were phenomenal, and I dropped by to get 2 maxi dresses altered. They fitted my shoulders by raising the straps up, and measured out the hemline for my height with shoes on. Make sure you bring the shoes you are going to wear, because that will determine how much fabric any tailor needs to hem. I feel that the prices are quite expensive, being that one maxi had more fabric than the other. I paid a total of $160 for tailoring. However, when I did pick up the dresses, they fit perfectly and didn't look altered at all. I also had to remind myself that the more fabric there is, the more cost there would be associated with it. They are closed on Thursdays, cash only, and there is no parking on Main Street, Downtown Flushing. They're not too difficult to find in the shopping mall area. read more

It fit perfectly - tight enough to be flattering but with enough extra space to be able to sit down (crucial since my dress was very structured material). I got a wedding guest dress taken in at the waist and they did it super fast, within a week! Super cheap and absolutely no complaints about anything! I am updating my review to deduct 1 star for the hem on a dress I took for alteration. The hem was extremely short and uneven when it came back which is really really disappointing because that can't be fixed since they didn't just hem it, they actually cut it, so there's no extra material to bring it back down or even it out. And when I tried it on and they could see it was too short and uneven, they didn't even offer a discount. They really should have considering how often I have gone to them for various alterations. I recommend other types of alterations but not for a dress if you want it to just touch the floor. It may end up being 2 inches off the floor and uneven instead. read more
