I took pants in with a zipper that needed to be replaced. The tailor told me it would be $25 and gave me a ticket stating the cost as $25. When I returned for my pants, the same guy told me it was $30. I showed him the receipt which stated $25. He told me $25 was the repair cost but he replaced the zipper so it was going to cost me $30. I don't care about $5, it makes no difference in my life. I hate sneaky people. Trying to get an extra $5 is so petty. If he had told me $30 from the start I would've still gotten it done although $30 to replace a zipper is more than the average price. It just seems dishonest and petty, and that is not a good look. One mark of a great tailor is jacket shoulder work. Andy ("MoMo") has done several jacket shoulder alterations for me--perfect each time. He also relined a vintage Brooks Brothers raincoat for me, converting something hopeless into better than the original. He made a custom blouse for my daughter modeled after a vintage piece that she had acquired in Boston. Inexpensive? No. This level of quality is not going to be inexpensive. But MoMo is quite possibly the best overall tailoring value in NYC because it is not possible to get higher quality for less. Logistics note: the sign over the shop reads "Ebenezer", ignore that. A good tailor is essential to looking and feeling good. I found Momo Custom Tailor through Yelp and was very satisfied with the work done on a pair of pants and jacket. I found a very unique colored Paul Smith jacket at Barney's during their going out of business sale and picked it up without giving much thought to the fit because it came out to less than $200. I was able to get the sleeves shortened and the midsection taken in a bit and it fit me exactly as I hoped! For the work on the jacket and to get a pair of pants hemmed and tapered, the total of $80, which is a very good price given the end results. I will certainly return for any future needs require the expert craftsmanship of a seasoned tailor at reasonable price. I took my wedding dress and my fiancé's wedding suit jacket to him. Both were a little too tight, since the store didn't have our sizes available. He made them both fit comfortably, opened up the arms and shoulders, and took off the tiny sleeves of my dress. I took my suit here today to have altered and the gentleman was extremely polite and seemed like he knew exactly what he was doing. For custom tailoring I think their prices are decent, definitely better than the Bayside custom tailors on Francis Lewis Boulevard. I will be picking my suit up in a few days and will let you all know how the alterations turned out. Got two suits, one in charcoal and 2nd dark navy blue (waiting for the 2nd to finish up), easy to tell tailor's experienced (nice older asian gentleman, not as fluent as I would have liked in english but didn't matter cause he's obviously done this many times, like when he was measuring me looked like he could do it in his sleep), really cares that his products come out so customer is satisfied, after first measurement he made adjustments twice, came out PERFECT! which is sayin something considering I have a 44-inch chest and 31-inch waist, very very happy I ended up going with Momo over Burberry and Hugo Boss, which still needed to be tailored if I ended up getting suits from them. For those who work out and want a suit that doesn't look like you took advantage of a Men's Wearhouse buy 1 get 3 suits free bonanza, definitely check this place out. Overall, ridiculous choice of fabric selections available, makes sure you're happy with all details like length, width, style of lapels, style of vents and length depending on front and back, etc., tailor won't settle, expect to come back once or twice for adjustments. Just wore this suit for a wedding, got enough compliments to know money well spent. Charcoal suit was super 130s count, goes for $1790 but he hooked it up w/ ~40% discount, came out to $1100, good luck finding a custom sut anywhere near that price, second suit in navy was also 130 count, $1790 discounted to $1000. Took advantage of a sale, not sure if it is stil running or will run much longer. P.S. Brought in three dress shirts to be tailored in, $20 each, job well done, no complaints, also waiting for 5 custom dress shirts, he's got a book with all sorts of colors, patterns, etc. I just told him what I had in mind, he recommended 5 different ones, I went with it, great selection.
