We hired Bayview Painting for our very large and not-straightforward interior paint job (5200 sq ft house, top to bottom repaint including removing wallpaper in a number of rooms, woodwork from the walls and painting many cabinets). Peter and his crew painted the exterior of our house. They did a tremendous amount of prep work. That was where the majority of time was spent. They used high quality paint and other products. Peter warranties the job for 5 years and expects that it will last much longer than that. The crew was very careful and they left the work site clean and orderly at the end of every day. Peter came by at least once every day to check on progress and make sure that we were pleased with the work. Besides power washing our house, his crew power washed our deck, fences, teak bench and garbage can shed. They removed old, non-functional wiring from the side of the house. They installed new light fixtures that I purchased. New front door hardware was installed, too. For a little extra, they stained our side fences and put teak oil on our bench. With previous paint jobs, the paint on our front door always ended up bubbling. Peter's crew spent a lot of time prepping the door to, hopefully, prevent that from happening again. We appreciate Peter's honesty in saying that it could happen again because of finishes that had been used in the past. We have gotten so many compliments on the paint job already. I've been on Yelp since 2010 and only write either really good or really bad reviews. So far all of my reviews have been good (thankfully). If I could give Bayview Painting 100 stars I would. Peter Dewey and crew were absolutely professional, friendly and amazing. I don't know when our house was last painted but we purchased it in 2002 and this is the first time we're painting it. It truly was the saddest looking house on the block. Paint was chipping, rust stains from nails were starting to show, there was what I thought was dirt but was really mold growing, trim was coming off, etc. I had 3 companies bid on our house. As soon as I met Peter, I had a feeling he would be the guy. Out of the 3 bids, Peter's bid was the most thorough and well explained bid we received. Peter has one of the friendliest and most comfortable personalities you'll ever meet. But at the same time, you can tell Peter takes his profession very seriously. I can't choose 1 word to describe what they did, amazing, spectacular, incredible. Our house looks like a brand new house. What I admire about Peter is the DETAIL he puts in his craftsmanship, it's amazing. I'm sure people ask, "How detailed do you have to be to paint a house, other than making sure paint doesn't get on anything but the walls?" Peter did things I never would've even thought about. An example are the rain drainage pipes that run down the side of the house. Peter removes the drainage pipes so the wall behind the pipe can be painted. If you ever change them out and the new ones don't line up with the old ones, you won't have an area with different paint. Another example are outside light fixtures. Similar to the drain pipes, he removes them and paints behind the fixture. Finally another example, as small as this sounds, is our wall mounted hose reel. Not only did Peter remove it so he could paint the wall behind it, he repainted the hose reel because it looked like crap and now it looks brand new. Peter provides his opinion and backs it up with sound reasoning. He's not a person that will just say whatever you want we'll do. He has a great sense of architecture and what colors might go best with the style of the house. We had few colors in mind and asked Peter his thoughts. He gave his opinion what he liked, but more importantly, the colors he thought may not work and why it wouldn't work or be the best for our house. As he showed us pictures of his previous jobs, there was one where I really liked the color. He explained he created the color himself. I told him I liked the color and he said we could use that color but since we have a ranch style house, it probably wouldn't look as good as the one in the picture. Going back to details. I was doing a walk with him, in which he and his team were spending the next few hours doing final touch up work. He was pointing things out to me that I didn't even notice needed touching up. One thing he pointed out to me was the front door area. We chose a different color from the house to paint the door. He pointed out the bottom threshold area. He painted it a different color from the house and the door and it looked really nice. It popped the front door area out. It's these little attention to details that really impressed me. One last thing I think is very important to this entire process is the bid. He DID NOT charge us more than the bid. You hear about companies coming in with low bids and then they begin to nickel and dime you because the extra work was not covered in the original bid. Peter doesn't work that way. His bid had no surprises. He was not the lowest bid but he was also not the highest bid. When we signed the contract, we knew exactly what work was going to be done. Peter explained if he did find something that would cost us more, like unexpected dry rot, he would let us know ahead of time and the cost to fix it. He also did small things for us that were not included in the bid at no extra charge. This is important because one of the companies that put a bid on our house was almost half the cost of Peter's bid. As I asked them questions, I realized the bid was only for painting the house. I asked if their bid included taking down the drainage pipes or repairing dry rot, they said it did not. Anything other than painting would be charged to us at a standard hourly rate or they would hire someone, which ever cost less. Peter's bid was all inclusive with no surprises. All I can say is if you want a company to come and slap on a few coats of paint on your house so they can move on to their next project, don't call Bayview Painting. If you want to see a professional master craftsman transform your house into something you will be proud to show off, call Peter Dewey at Bayview Painting. I will say that at first we were hesitant, because the last time my grandma painted the house many years ago it cost her $3,500 and was done by college students, so we really didn't know what to expect cost-wise, but we knew we wanted it done right. At first we thought the price seemed high, but after asking around we discovered it was actually right in line with what you SHOULD be paying if you want a quality paint job that will last a lifetime. Bottom line is you get what you pay for. Peter ensured us he only uses the very best outdoor paint available (which we verified with others) and of course costs more, and invited us to take a look at some of his current projects before deciding. After my grandma and I went to look at some of the properties, we were sold! It was clear how much pride they take in their work, and the attention to detail was outstanding. After looking at Peter's houses and seeing how crisp and clean their paint lines were, I quickly started noticing at other houses how not crisp and clean other paint jobs were. My grandma was so impressed with how hardworking the painters were, and how much effort went into the prep work.
