I love this palce, I work there fro a fw months about 8 years ago and Im only have a great thinks to said about them. They have a n expert lady in teh kitchen to cook the food and of cousrese they haev helpers. Empployes we can eat what ever we want, they use to give us free food plus a greta disocunt to buy our products. Bazaar on Cambridge sells spoiled food. I have already called Department of Public Health to inspect the store. I hope it will be closed for good. The idea of the store is great, but it gets very poor execution. We need another owner to comply with public health regulations of the state. I would definitely pay more for the same food to eliminate the fear to become sick after eating it. I have never had problems with spoiled food in the other Bazaar (on Beacon St in Brookline) for the last 15 years. read more

I like the store. Though it is small, but it is well-arranged, and it has big variety of produce, deli, hot food, sweets, bakery and liquor. I wish some prices were more affordable. Some people giving reviews mentioned a bad attitude of employees. I disagree. the bazaar is almost TOO authentic for me. i almost forget that i am no longer living in ukraine when i step inside. russian radio is blasting in the corner.... old babushkas are carefully picking the best potatoes... it's unbelievable. they've got great bread, pastries/cakes, freggies, a meat counter with prepared salads and foods, juice (fun varieties like banana or carrot/apple), frozen food (like pelmeni), kovbasa (sausage), and beer/vodka. tip: do yourself a favor and get the hortiza vodka for $16. that alone kept me sane during those long ukrainian winters.... read more

Great food, great prices. Most products are in Russian- but i generally stick to stuff that i can tell what it is, i.e. produce, cheese, and things with relevant photos on the label (call me unadventurous, but I haven't bought one of those meat products with the portrait of the weird little kids on the label yet). Also some interesting sweets and beers. Always amazed at how low the total cost is given the great variety and quality of the food. read more

Nobody has mentioned the beer here yet. There are some great beers, such as Baltika, Kalnapils, Aldaris, and various Czech and German beer. Some refrigerated, some not. read more

Bazaar has a really wonderful selection of eastern european foods, including lots of smoked/pickled seafoods and meats as well as chocolate and pastries. I like coming here to pick up snacks for work. They also have a selection of produce and other more regularly grocery items if you need them. I have been shopping there weekly for about 6-7 years. It used to be one of the best russian/european delis around . But in the last year or two it looks like the ownership or management have changed : produce is not as fresh, once in a while I forget to check the expiration date and end up with expired products (most often juices and bakery goods ), etc. And lately I have observed "tricks of the trade" haven't seen since soviet times: inattentive and indifferent personnel, scale cheating with cold cuts, items in the check not present in shopping bags, etc. Too bad, guess I won't be coming to Cambridge street no more. read more

We decided to cater our daughter's 1st Birthday party from Bazaar on Cambridge. The service was superb, we went over the menu with the owner, and she made wonderful suggestions for the menu. And its not easy to determine menu for 40 people. We decided to go with delivery option, since did not want the hassle of driving to pick up food the day of the party. Food not only arrived on time, each tray was beautifully decorated, and was ready to go straight on the table. i think this is the best grocery store in allston. the produce is excellent and the bakery selection is decadent and fantastic. there is also a great variety of relatively cheap bulk things like nuts, dried fruits, and candy (unsalted almonds! dried figs! gummi bears! yes, yes, yes~) plus there are salad and pickled vegetable selections in the case by the front door that are AMAZING. they even have pretty good kimchi ^^ the staff is polite and the place is clean and well organized. i am also awfully fond of the cheerful, colorful frontage design. really, many stars. i cannot remember the last time i shopped at shaw's... because of bazaar, i have no need~! open until 9 m-sat. & until 8 on sun. read more

I found this store by chance and it totally made my day. I'm German and I am always looking for my creamy Langnese honey and German rye bread. I was so excited when I saw it that I immediately called my parents and told them they didn't have to send me care packages anymore. They have a large selection of all kinds of European products and I saw some sausage and philo dough and dried fruits that I will definitely be coming back for, especially because of the great prices. Very good selection of expired and almost expired foods along with diary without expiration date on a package. Banana bread with mold inside, out of date herring with horrible smell, carp which used to be frozen twice (or more?), etc. The selection of edible goods is fine overall and customer service is OK if you're not self-important. read more

The bakery is amazing. Ordered a cake for a huge party. Dealt with Sabina. She was very nice and professional. The cake itself was absolutely amazing. So delicious. I sent her a picture of what I would like it to look like and she absolutely nailed in! It was such a hit at the party there wasn't any left at the end of the night! had my grocery shopping this Sunday afternoon. It's a great store, they have a lot of great food from all over the Europe. Nice selection of meats, cheeses etc.I used to go here more often back in the days when I lived in the area, but even now I don't mind a commute from South End just to get my favorite kvas or ukrainian beer.So today I stop by at delicatessen corner to get some armenian meat.it was like 4 pm and the store was full of people. The ladies at this department decided to clean the slicer and call it a day. But they didn't say anything but just giggling around making me feel uncomfortable. After I took my stuff with some comments I couldn't understand (I speak russian too btw) along the giggling, I went to the register line feeling absolutely confused what was that funny?I didn't want to leave the store with that kind of feeling so I went back to the same delicatessen corner and ask them for some seaweed salad. They were like giggling again (very professional! ) saying"YES YOU CAN HAVE WHATEVER YOU WANT UNLESS YOU NEED THAT MEAT AGAIN. "I asked why is that a problem and guess what I got back-"WE ALREADY CLEANED THE SLICER AND WE HAVE TO WASH HANDS AFTER CUTTING CAUSE THAT MEAT SMELL FUNKY".im sorry, but its 4 pm and your store is full of people!Working in the customer service myself I didn't want to cause the scene, I just said im sory for making you to do that, but it's kind of what you gotta do.Its not the first time they make you feel bad for asking to cut something. I've been a regular customer of Bazaar store for a few years now. My last visit was satisfying but yet very disturbing... I usually come to the store once or twice a month. They do have a great selection of European hard-to-find foods, like smoked fish and meats of all kinds. But they also have all the necessities you need like very cheap fruit and vegetables, reasonably priced cheese and dairy, fresh meat and a wonderful prepared food section. Usually Bazaar's employees are pretty helpful and respectful. But during my last visit I witnessed not a very pleasant situation when one of their employees was discussing work related issues with his co-worker. I do understand that people have issues at work, but the language he was using in front of my 5 year old child was just far beyond inappropriate! It is a shame that this store has hired someone so rude, totally not loyal and not so well-educated person who would express his negative and aggressive attitude using the f*** word in front of the customers. Overall, I used to like this store a lot, but I do not think I want my child to hear anything like that ever again! read more

What may seem like a bargain to you is only an appearance. It looks like scales in that store are set to make the food items weigh in heavier than their real weight! I shopped there several times and was surprised at how light some items felt compared to their weight on the price tag. Then I decided to ask them to re-weigh it. And to my greatest surprise I was asked to leave the store!!! When I insisted on re-weighing the items, some woman who claimed to be the owner started screaming at me in very high pitched broken English that I should not be "making a scene in front of other customers" (or at least that was what I gathered from listening to her very heavy accent). And then, I was literally pushed out of the store. The words that echoed behind me were that they didn't need customers like me. I wonder why. read more

The largest of the local Russian grocery stores (at least of the ones I've found) and one of the best. Even if you're not looking for pelmeni or other Russian-specific delicacies, they have a good selection of cheap produce and a lot of other staples... although I've never quite been able to bring myself to tackle their frozen meat section. read more

This place is life-changing! Stop whatever you are doing and go shop here now! There are 4 separate areas just for fish: canned fish, preserved fish in a refrigerator case, frozen fish, prepared/cooked fish to go in the deli area, and the masterpiece which is the smoked fish area. Sorry, no fresh fish, but if you were paying attention, I actually listed 5 sections instead of 4. and it is not a fish store. At least eight kinds of salmon caviar. pickles, soups, salads made daily. Lithuanian rye bread, Latvian rye bread, pastry case, beer wine liquor, intelligent staff, there is even a box-office. you cannot not love this place. it's just such a gem with great offerings. people should support these types of grocery stores because they offer very high quality at low prices. you cannot find either of those characteristics in typical commercial style supermarkets, particularly in this country. whether it's fruits, cold cuts, bread, or prepared items, buy them at places like Bazaar rather than Shaws, Stop/shop, TraderJ's..etc there's easy, free, abundant parking so even if you have to drive here, it will be a smooth trip. read more

Highly recommend the Russian salad with chicken, and the fruit yogurts that come in a 4-pack. The best. This place was recommended to me by both my Russian and Ukrainian colleagues and also a Russian friend. I wish more things had detailed labels in English, but I have bought a bunch of things that didn't have names at the deli/togo food counter and just tried them, as I figured eventually that would be way more informative than labels could anyways. The tongue salad is actually quite nice. It might sound strange to those who have not eaten tongue, but many cuisines feature excellent tongue dishes. The octopus salad is a bit sweet. The beef stew is nice enough. The meatballs are quite excellent and taste better than they look (which they looked just sort of grey.) The Russian salad comes in two choices - either with chicken or with bologna. I've had both and strongly prefer the chicken version. (Note that if you ever attempt to make it at home, try looking up the Romanian version which uses beef cubes instead, and I personally strongly recommend it.) read more

I have extremely high standards for bread since I bake my own and developed my palate living in Germany for years. Their bread passes muster, especially 'country' and 'sunflower.' Country tastes just like 'Schweitzer Brot.' It's flour mix includes whole wheat and rye. So good! and 'sunflower' is like 'Steineckes Brot.' It has a high rye content and lots of sunflower and flax seeds and has the traditional triangular shape. Their cheese selection is pretty good and they are cut in the right way most of the time (I hate it when places like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's cuts the wheel in half and then slices it further for sale; the wheel should be cut like a cake, not in half, so annoying). The bread costs are totally reasonable (about 4.49 for a kilo or 2lbs of bread)--enough for me to almost stop baking at home! The only downside is that they sometimes have moldy cheese--you have to take care. Their staff are also really super polite. read more

Gross. Last year, we had a good Bazaar´s Allston turkey for Thanksgiving. This year for the same order and price, we got instead a mini-turkey, the size of a large chicken. Not enough food and guests already on their way. Called Bazaar´s Allston and no answer. Other food stores Thanksgiving-closed. Called Bazaar´s Brookline but they swore they barely know Bazaar´s Allston (website says same ownership). Brookline has nothing but three ducks left. We don´t like duck but buy it anyway, maybe some of the guests do. As I serve the mini-turkey, I accidentally give a guest a small paper bag that came w/ the stuffing. Inside, the giblets that they had not taken out before stuffing the bird. Just awful, will never go back again. read more

I remember a few years back, when I was a student, I would come over to Bazaar and I would buy everything to survive the midterms and finals. The food was good quality and the variety was abundant. Lately we have noticed that both - the quality and the variety, went down. I don't want to give this place a bad review, because we'll be back for bread, sour cream and may be some salty herring once in a while. But we stopped buying a seafood salad a while back - it became more of a liquid crab stick mayo spread that clearly lacks any type of seafood in it. And we'll stop buying chicken rice (plof) because we bought a big container of it on Saturday and this (Monday) morning we realized it didn't have even one piece of chicken in it, and if you saw the amount of the whole garlic cloves in it, you'd want to stay away from me for a week. Thanks, can do my own rice with garlic with half a liter of oil in it at home. Israeli eggplant salad simply caused the entire family to occupy the bathroom on Saturday night, even though the staff told my husband it was very fresh. Everything we used to love so much in the prepared food section is now out of the question and everything we still have in the fridge goes straight into the disposal. Sad indeed. read more

I really enjoy Russian culinary, but this store is just not for me. Of course they have a licence for alcoholic drinks, but I shop there not for that when I have a liquor store right next to me. The store is really untidy and not cozy. Everything is crammed into one little building. There are mostly a lot of people between the rows, they are usually employees that don't even ask if I need help reading a Russian label or something. Whenever I ask someone for help they literally roll they eyes. I get it you're tired, but I don't want to see your pessimistic faces when I'm paying you money for your services. They have a lot of salads and culinary delicacies, but their workers behind the stand are really rude and think of me as a second sort. By the time I understand what exactly is in that salad I lose all my appetite, and just leave. Their 'fresh' bread is just a unfrozen piece of dough ready for selling in fifteen minutes, and I think this store is mostly over rated. Finally, when I leave the store already in a not-so-good mood I have to deal with pushing my carriage out of the door and down that one little stair by myself even if the employers are standing outside on their break. read more
