Thanks John and the crew at BBC! Once again, BBC Automotive has exceeded customer expectations by providing honest, no-nonsense value and a detailed list of "to do" items for my XJ8. John was my point man and he kept me informed and abreast of what needed to be fixed right away. John went "above and beyond" by making a list of items that should be fixed with a timeline that fit my budget for maintenance and replacements. As an example, John informed me the coolant system could use a proactive replacement and AC could use a re-charge, but he let me know I could wait until closer to Summer--John informed me, "right now, we need to replace the wiper blades and front struts." John's assessment was the same for fluids, brakes, suspension, etc, helping me to prioritize and triage, taking care of the needs and pointing out the next project "to do's." I got a clear assessment of where I stood and was able to budget my next 6 months of replacement/maintenance plans, proactively, before anything is likely to break and need a repair. ...And to top it all off, BBC replaced the battery in my key fob and I am ready to go keyless again and satisfied--BBC exceeded my expectations and I will continue to use BBC Automotive as my Jag's "go to" repair shop. read more

I remember coming here over 20 years ago with my dad when I was a kid. Some of the same mechanics that were here then are still here now. These guys know their stuff! They are off of the Garnet Avenue exit and Damon Street and can be seen from the 5 freeway so they are super easy to find. They just started working on Land Rovers so if you have one, bring it here. If the service job will take a while, they do have a courtesy shuttle to take you where you need to go and they will wash your car when finished with it. There is also a lobby with a table, chairs, and coffee. I highly recommend this place! read more

RIPPED ME OFF COMPLETELY!!!!! This is NO JOKE... LIARS....ABSOLUTE LIARS I went in with some various issues to my 2010 Range Rover Supercharged. One of the issues was needing new brake pads...easy right? Finally got the car back and the car nose dived and pulled to the right when you pressed on the brakes...this was after they supposedly test drove the car and had me take a taxi to come up there and pick it up. So I took it back and asked them to fix it, so a few days later I get it back and...the brakes were soft and not too responsive? Plus there were some other issues going on I wont bore you with... SO they took it back again...they TOOK THE CAR TO RANGE ROVER DEALER to have them look at it...then gave it back to me and claimed that it was just how a $109,000 car with a 510 horsepower engine and 21,000 miles was supposed to be... I thought that was odd, but hey I'm not a car guy so ok ...over the next month the brakes squeaked anytime you used them and got softer. I took the car today to another shop to have them look at it. I showed them my old invoice from the the Original Specialists and they looked at the brakes. I just got a call from the owner of the new place I took it too and he was sorry to tell me that the 2 front brake pads were the cheapest pads you can buy...about $55 dollars and I was charged $431.50 on my invoice ...JUST FOR THE PAD...not including installation and that the rotors and all parts around them (which I also had installed) were not lubricated!!! He said the pads were not even safe for that vehicle... So EVEN when I complained and took the car back up there and told them they felt soft and that they felt dangerous to use on a 6000 pound SUV ...they said that they were fine... LIARS....ABSOLUTE LIARS....I caught them and I am going there tomorrow to get a refund. ABSOLUTE LIARS. Review other places you've been to read more

I found this place after purchasing my Land Rover, as the previous owners had brake and other work done there. It's hard to call it a "shop" when it is so clean and pristine, not just the lobby, but the working/dock area as well. I just had a brake light that stayed on, but knew there was something else wrong, but not exactly what. They did a diagnostic and were VERY honest and caught a couple of MAJOR things that another mechanic missed. It turns out a belt was just about to break, and nobody else was able to see that, amongst other things. Just during the diagnostic process they topped off fluids, washed and dried it and gave me a courtesy ride as well. I will have future work done here, they are a little pricey, but they are Land Rover and Jaguar SPECIALISTS, they do work you can't get done at Joe Schmoe Auto, etc. and are HONEST and nice guys. read more

Not coming back ever. Brought my 2006 Range Rover Sport for a front brake job and a coolant flush. After picking up the car, it was overheating within 10 minutes of driving. Towed it back. They told me it just wasn't bleed properly...that's plausible, but I'm not sure why they let me take it home without running the engine for 15 minutes to figure this out before hand. I saw coolant on the ground where we stopped though, and when i mentioned that they brushed it off. Problem got solved, luckily I didn't destroy my engine but I figured it could have a been a simple mistake. Then about 6 months later, my brake sensor started going on/off telling me I needed new brake pads. I found it odd that it wasn't just staying on since that's normally how it works. Went to my regular mechanic and turns out they didn't route the sensor cable properly and showed me what they did wrong. it was rubbing against the tire/brakes, frayed, and that explained the weird behavior. So another hour of labor and a new sensor. 0 for 2...either they don't know what they're doing or don't care. read more

I took my 1996 XJ6 to them because it was over heating, they said they could not find an exact reason for the problem and tried a lot of trouble shooting. This ended up costing me over $1,000; a new temperature sending unit, some new hoses etc... My problem was not resolved and only ended up getting worse. I took my jag back to them a few times, they looked at it for free guaranteeing their work which was nice, but at last I had to take my car to another place to be fixed. read more

Since they specialize in Jaguars and Range Rovers they know them pretty well. The work gets done well and the staff has been doing it a long time. The cost is more than other places which is a drawback, but that's the only problem I've ever had here. read more

I called the Jaguar dealer today on 4525 Convoy St and their diagnostic was $145.00, called this one and it was $99.00. Definitely cheaper to plug a machine in and read a code. read more

I've been taking my 1996 XJ6 Vanden Plas here since I bought it in 2007. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful, especially Mike. He is a real asset to the place. He and Todd act like they value your business, which is more than I can say for a lot of repair shops. The best of the best!!!! These guys are the real deal. Top drawer mechanics who do an extraordinary job. I am the original owner of a 1986 Jaguar, and they have serviced my car since I moved to San Diego in 1989. Just to be clear. This is not a toy I take out of the garage on special occasions. It is my only vehicle, and The Original Specialists have kept my car in tip-top working order for 26 years! They know what they're doing. Over the years they gained my confidence with their integrity and work ethic. I have never been pushed to have unnecessary repairs made. If an issue is discovered during maintenance, they monitor the item, and don't recommend repair or replacement until the time it truly needs to be taken care of. On many occasions they have gone out of their way to find alternative and less expensive options for me. And their prices are extremely competitive. How's the customer service? If there was an Academy Award for customer service, Tod would have at least a dozen Oscars! He listens, he's patient, and having been a Jaguar mechanic himself, he is extremely knowledgeable. He's also kind and calm. It's your car. You're upset. He understands. How often do you get that in the world...you walk in, and even if you may not be on your best behavior, there's Tod behind the counter, calm, kind, and competent. Does it get better than that? COMPLETE RIPOFF!!! I used this shop for my 2001 xk8 convertible under the previous ownership and had no problems. Tod the new owner seemed to be interested in " Boat loads of money " rather than pride in workmanship or customer service. They broke the windshield on my 1995 xj6 caused the head gasket to blow " THE RADIATOR HOSE CLAMPS WERE LOOSE THE HOSE CAME OFF " They replaced my speakers, WIRES WERE STICKING OUT OF THE REAR DOOR PANEL THEY WERE NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED AND NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. They replaced my front door panel, BOTH FRONT DOOR PANELS STILL WILL NOT STAY CONNECTED. The last time I picked up my car the oil dip stick was six inches out of it's sleeve, I asked Tod to take responsibility for the damage he caused to my car and refund some of my money, he refused. Never again. You can judge yourself if you trust taking your car to "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" after reading my experience. Over a year ago I took my XJR to "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" because the real original Jaguar dealer "Penske" in San Diego closed their doors and the closest dealer was in Carlsbad. "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" did a complete break job which included; changing the rotors, break pads and e-breaks pads "emergency breaks". Recently while getting a flat tire my mechanic pointed out that my e-breaks were unevenly worn out on one side. The e-breaks should last a long time yet this was worn out in less than 30K miles of driving just like regular break pads. My mechanic told me that I need to take it back to them since originally when breaks were changed they were not calibrated properly. I took the car back to "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" and told them about the issue. They said that they will inspect it. They knew that the break was not calibrated and agreed that it needs to be changed. The trouble started when they did not want to back up their work and wanted to charge me again for e-break pads but after a short reasoning with them they agreed to pay for the e-break pads but sadly enough they put me in a spot by saying that they will only do so if I authorize them to change the regular break pads too. I believe this offer was unethical but since I already had to pay few hundred dollars for inspection which I should not have because I already told them about the problem and on the other hand I knew that my regular break pads were worn to some extend I agreed to change them. The worse started to happen when they change everything but yet they said that they have another code which they cannot diagnose and that I may have a trouble with the e-break motor so they recommended to change the motor, another more than $400.00 bill. But since I knew that the motor was changed by the dealer a while back I decided not to authorize further work and stop my losses right there. I decided to take my car out of their hand and take it to the dealer. I told Todd that I will take the car to the dealer to fix the code, he asked me to call him back with the outcome. I promised him a courtesy call back. While picking up my car from "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" I learned that they made all the e-break cables loose and disconnected. I was very disappointed as I took my car out I had no e-break. Truly it was disconnected. I was very frustrated while I had to pay an unreasonable price to release my car with more problems and yet not properly fixed . I drove the car directly to new San Diego Jaguar dealer and told them about the problem. I paid $300.00 to the dealer to disassemble and find the problem, sure enough the $300.00 was enough to fix the loose cables of the e-break that was left disconnected by "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" and sure enough the motor was working just fine. As promised I did call afterwards to tell about their mis diagnosis. I give "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" one star to post and share my experience with anyone who reads this but I strongly believe that they don't deserve this one star. "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" does not stand behind their work, "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" charges too much for diagnosis, "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" didn't dignost the problem properly, "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" gave me a dishonest recommendation about the need for a new e-break motor "this would have been an unnecessary charge of over $400.00". Most importantly they put me in a spot to change all break pads to replace the one that they originally installed incorrectly. That's blackmailing the customer. There are many other choices out there and some are truly honest. "The Original Specialist Jaguar Mechanic shop" will not be in my list of options when it comes to fixing my Jaguar in the future. read more

These guys don't know how to repair Audi's - do not take your car to them. They charged me $1,200.00 for work I didn't need and I had to go elsewhere to get the job done. The manager doesn't have any repair experience-and the mechanic's training is questionable. Too bad I didn't see Max's review before going there last year. And yes, they don't back their work- and yes they want to re change for poor workmanship. This place needs to be investigated! Money laundering comes to mind. read more

I have a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 and got it when it was 5 years old. After spending a lot of money taking it to the dealership (Cush Jaguar at the time) for basic work that I'm not sure was even necessary, I started coming to Original Specialists. I love my Jag, but if I hadn't found Original Specialists I probably would have had to sell it years ago due to the cost of some services. I've been coming to this place and working with Todd and Dave and other techs for 14 years now. They own Jags too by the way so familiarity with these cars is obvious. My biggest thing for car service is that the place be honest in letting me know when work is really necessary and the potential impact of waiting to have it fixed -- and then letting me decide when it happens based on my personal budget and other factors. I like to be able to call in and ask questions when I'm not necessarily sure I should bring it in -- thanks to Todd he's always there. That's why I keep coming back and that's why I recommend it to my friends who are Jag owners. If you make an appointment, please be aware they're the SECOND Jaguar place on Santa Fe Street. I think they lose some people who aren't familiar with their location which is a shame. read more

I have a 1965 XKE that has been cared for by this group for over 20 years. Always honest, always fair, always excellent work.

Slightly pricey, but the work was done well. They fixed what I took the car in for, and the car has been running very smoothly ever since I got it back from them. They are very professional and courteous, and they follow up with a phone call to see if everything is ok with the car. That's something no other mechanic has ever done with me.
