I tried the potato salad, macaroni, baked beans, hash brown casserole, green beans, and fried green tomatoes. All of them were great but the green beans and macaroni were my favorite. I got the pulled pork sandwich and I liked it a lot and the chicken plate was really good too! Definitely try the white BBQ sauce. They were out of all the pie but I'd like to try it on our next trip. We went with 6 people so it was hard to find a place to sit big enough for all of us plus it was packed when we went but well worth it. These were some extremely friendly and attentive ladies!!! We are headed home from a cruise out of Mobile Alabama and stopped here. This is definitely a jewel off I-65 N. Most importantly for me... the bathroom was extremely CLEAN and well kept!!! I normally avoid gas stations like this but there was an emergency in my truck . Now if you read any of my other reviews on BBQ you know I had a weird opinion on bbq. To me I expect super tender, super flavorful meat . Regardless what region of the south: rub, mustard-based, vinegar base etc; . cook the meat slow and low and it's good. Where I think a barbecue place really shines and shows off their talents is the time and effort they put in their sides. And oh my 65 has great sides and meat was great too That squash casserole dish was the best I've ever had I kept eating it even though I was super full. I'm not a big macaroni and cheese fan and when I do eat it I want it to be real cheese not some kind of cheese sauce from a box, 65 was some of the best I had. Yelp! has come through again in a clutch situation. My girlfriend and I were driving back to Atlanta from Mobile and were wondering where to stop in Montgomery and eat. As she drove and I Yelped, I found BBQ 65 and was immediately intrigued. I shack next to a gas station and right off the highway? I've eaten a lot of barbecue, but God damn if this wasn't some of the best smoked chicken I've ever had. Their house sauce is sweet and delicious, and is warm and simmering in a crock pot, but the star is the white sauce. A smoked chicken plate is a ton of food: three pieces, two sides, toast, and a drink. Everything at this plate looked tasty and I only wished I lived closer to make more frequent trips! read more

This is a great little place right off the Interstate. Excellent pork bbq plate with fantastic squash casserole and vinegar coleslaw. I lived 12 years in Memphis so I know pork bbq and I must say the pork was not as good as what you will find in Memphis. However, the sides were Much much better. The sides you will get in Memphis generally are puny and underwhelming. The sauce really complimented the meat. Quick service! Recommended. The mac was so amazing and greasy... my partner and I may have fought over who ate more and who gets the last bites. Green beans were chock full of bacon! We got the 2 bbq sauces and the regular one wasn't anything special but the Alabama white was nice and sweet and great with ribs. Sweet tea wasn't anything to write home about but was solid. This is a proud entrant into Alabama's barbeque heritage. They have all of the staples: pulled pork, chicken, and ribs. Only tried the pulled pork, and it was delicious. The mac & cheese and fried okra were equally good. They have the classic red sauce (spicier and with more vinegar tang than your traditional sauce, which is perfect for balancing the richness of the pork). They also have the less-well-known Alabama White Sauce, which is a spicy mayonnaise concoction. It's traditional to serve on chicken, but it was great on the pork (and the fried okra). It looked like most of the folks in there were eating the pulled pork, which is my favorite, too. I'm giving them 4 stars just based on the chicken. Some of the best I've had at a BBQ joint. Everything else was just ok but this chicken was really remarkable. Moist and nicely cooked with a great rub. I liked the white sauce. Ordered it on the side and used it when I didn't have any skin to bite through. I got a combo with ribs and 2 sides. The marinated slaw is vinegar slaw. I liked it but probably could use less celery seed. I liked the squash casserole but not the panko on top. Both good sides but I'd try others next time. Not the beans though. My wife had them and I don't like raw white onions. The ribs were ok. They didn't seem all that fresh or smokey. Tried them with their sauce too. Ok at best. We were on our way back from New Orleans when I had to stop for gas. Pulling up to the station all I could see a big BBQ 65 sign and it says the best BBQ in Alabama. I was already on a BBQ high since Memphis so of course I couldn't have passed this. Walking in, it feels like one of those off the beating path Diners, Drive-ins and Dives joint. On one side you have a BBQ counter set up with some seatings and the other side is straight up a gas station store. I opted for the four ribs combo with a drink and two sides. My sides were BBQ beans and cabbage with sausage. The ribs were excellent. I'm starting to question myself wether all the BBQ down South are just good in general. The flavor is much different than Memphis however. The sauce is more acidic and the ribs have a more boiled/braised note rather than smoked. I mean that in a good way, the meat is fall of the bone tender. I also appreciate the sauce more because it is not over powered by strong smoked flavor. The BBQ beans were also on point. I think getting beans at different places is a new thing for me. I am very intrigued by how drastically they taste at each place. While there is a fundamental BBQ foundations to them, the complexity of these beans are beyond words. The cabbage with sausage however, I wasn't a big fan of. The steamed cabbage benefited from the fat flavor of the sausage but not the other way around. The sausages tasted like meat boiled in water with no seasoning, bland and soggy. In any case, that's a matter of side choices, everything else is great and I love that it's in the middle of nowhere. I feel almost proud that I found a place like this by pure chance. Visited during covid pandemic. Sign on door says mask required but not so much. People, including a good number of kitchen and other staff, running all around maskless. If this matters to you like it does to me -- I view non-masked as a high risk group for infection and transmission since they don't bother to even try and protect themselves, let alone someone else -- stay away. Food was good. I preferred the ribs (very good) to the pulled pork (okay). Coleslaw (mayo version) was heavy on the pickles but if you like pickles you'll love it. Only BBQ sauce is vinegar so I'm guessing that is the regional standard. Only beverage options at the time of visit were sweet/unsweet tea and lemonade as they weren't using their soda fountain. So if you're ordering a plate with beverage included keep that in mind. Other bottled and canned beverages are available for separate purchase. Dining room and bathrooms were clean. Two bench style picnic tables were available for outdoor seating. I'd give more stars if I hadn't been so disenchanted with the cavalier attitude toward a public health crisis. read more

So there I was, Road tripping with my husband and son. It was my turn to pick the restaurant. My son needed to use the bathroom so we stopped at a chain restaurant heavy exit and I started cruising Yelp. I stumbled upon this place which was one exit down and convinced the boys to head that way. They started laughing when we pulled up to this BBQ/gas station. "Seriously Mom, let's go back." I dug in my heels and insisted on going inside. And that's where the 3 of us experienced BBQ paradise in a sticky booth under yard sale pig art. Every single bite of every single thing was the best we had ever had - and we've had A LOT of BBQ. I expected at least the toast to be mediocre- but it was equally mesmerizing. My son delighted in being able to order peach cobbler as a side - one of many diverse choices. We all got the combo plate. Chicken, ribs, pork, yum, yum, yum. Is it in a gas station? Yes. If you're hungry and want barbecue then it's a decent place to stop. It's definitely not the best I've had but not the worst. The meat was juicy but I could not taste any smoke flavor and I want strong smoke flavor. I don't care for spare ribs and that's what they served I prefer baby back ribs but that's just my preference. The potato salad was a little sweet for me as well as the coleslaw.
