Just moved to area and been checking out local places. Went to BBQ King and ordered a chopped BBQ plate and a side order of onion rings. This was take out so didn't see food till I got home. The Bar-B-Q King on NC 27 was the first place I remember having BBQ from a restaurant as a boy. Of course, I had to eat it via takeout because my father didn't like pork. So we never went there as a family. My mom would go pick up a pound and bring it home. When I could drive myself and choose to eat there, I went and ate in. And I've been going ever since. The barbecue pork is smoky and yet moist. The slaw is crisp and creamy. I prefer the white, but you can get the red slaw here, too. The fries and onion rings aren't my very favorite, but I go here for the pork! The Bar-B-Q King sandwich is fantastic and large. You can get one with a medium drink on special for less than $6 on Mondays. Bar-B-Q King burger special is same price on Tuesdays. Plenty of parking here. They are cash and check only. This place was recommended by a local. Unfortunately, I walked in and the place had quite a few workers and the floor was filthy. Trash all over. The fries and meat seemed to be ready to serve. Not made to order. I'll tell you what I liked first: hush puppies and mustard sauce were so good. The macaroni was good and creamy. The BBQ meal comes with a lot but the meat looks and feels like its been chewed before and it doesn't have a bbq flavor. Almost like they sucked it out. Yes that bad. We drove about 40 min for this place. Idk why. The slaw was ok but nothing special. The tenders and fries are good per my kid. The onion rings- dont even try. read more

Very cute place! The restaurant has updated it's menu and for my company who hails from Lincolnton, they haven't been in awhile and didn't know what to order because there were so many new things on the menu! Today, we ordered the chili, the BBQ plate which comes with 3 sides, and also a tray (which comes with 2 sides). I think for the portions, the prices are very fair. The ladies at the front yell the orders- how the back chefs remember everything I have no idea because nothing is written down! The decor is very homey - wooden, and really cute. BBQ- I really liked it, they put some red sauce on it that I think is really good, not too salty. Mac n cheese- good, standard, not anything to brag about. Hushpuppies - yummy! Fries - nice and hot, not too salty. Onion Rings - REALLY good! crispy, not too much batter (you can definitely taste the onion!) Sweet tea - to me, not as good as bojangles. Stopped by this joint at the advice of a local. I thought twice because of the poor reviews, but I decided to give it a shot. The reviews were correct. The staff was incompetent, the food was low grade, and the building was disgusting. I ordered a cheeseburger, and it was flavorless at best. The onion rings were sloppy and soaked in oil from the fryer, leaving a spoiled taste. What topped it off for me though was the sanitary issues. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. How are you supposed to eat so close to the nasty bathrooms? My advice would be to have one of the clueless teenagers running the place clean the restroom. I will never be back. EDIT AFTER RUDE REPLY FROM MANAGER: When a customer has a bad experience at an establishment, the management usually tries to make it better. This manager instead responded rudely, and made excuses. I would label that as "incompetent". My advice on your sanitation is to actually do a good job of cleaning. You can say what you want, but it was gross. You have plenty of people working there, and hardly anyone was dining, so what is the excuse? As far as the food, I understand that you hand form the patties, and hand bread the onion rings. Usually, I would love that. In this case, the food was gross. My advice would be to learn how to cook flavorful food, hire a better fry cook, and coach your front of house on soft skills. If you can't do that, then just start buying some premade stuff from US Foods and fry it. Your one mission as a restaurant is to create good food. We ate here tonight and it was awful. The chopped barbecue was dry, even my 8 year old thought it had no flavor. Both types of slaw, especially the red slaw were less than desirable. Green beans tasted like oil. The only thing decent about the meal was the hush puppies. There is much better barbecue out there than this. Waste of our money and time. read more

Very hole in the wall BBQ spot. Like order at the counter, they yell your order to the prep area that's 10 feet behind them. It's important to know this is a CASH ONLY place. Their known for their BBQ King, but I have no idea what that is and didn't see any signs explaining. This is kind of a locals spot, and I suppose I just wasn't in the know. I'm sure they would have told me if I asked, maybe that's my bad. The biggest bummer is you can't order most BBQ options. Like ribs, chicken, sausage etc. I realize that's not their model, so they didn't mislead me, but I was excited to try a variety. They seemed friendly and family oriented, and I'm sure they treat their locals great. It was also a decent price, I just think I prefer TX BBQ over NC, just my opinion. This is a pretty good Lexington/Western style barbecue (well,probably more of a Hybrid barbecue) restaurant, probably the best in Lincoln County. The chopped pork is tender, moist, with bits of outside brown in the chop. The slice barbecue is very good, especially when sauced with the hot variety of sauce there - and it is very tender meat. The hot sauce here is very hot. The slaw is a white variety, and on the dry side for my taste, but works well on a sandwich with additional sauce. Of course, the Barbecue Plate is also good, and the portions are great.The hush puppies here are very good, crunchy and flavorful. Fries are very ordinary, as is the hot dog. Walked in and was seated immediately. Lots of different BBQ meat and fixn's to choose from. The BBQ sandwich with slaw was a good size with average flavor. I placed an order Friday June 5th at 12:17 pm for 12 people to be picked up saturday June 6th at 7:30pm as I was taking this back to my hometown Asheville on Sunday. A lot of places are closed on Sundays hence the Saturday night pickup. Went to pick up on time and they had to record of my order! This place is awesome! I usually have a BBQ plate with red slaw and split the fries with onion rings. It's a hefty meal that doesn't leave you hungry. Their BBQ is moist and delicious, the slaw and hush puppies are good, and their onion rings are great. Every now and then, I'll get one of their burgers because, well, they're great too! They make a big burger, I like mine with chili and slaw and they do it right! The folks here have always been super friendly, I've actually been there and know this from personal experience. Dropping 2 stars because of terrible customer service. I eat here at least once a month and the food is still good, but not worth the terrible customer service the past 3 times I have eaten here, including today. I have had terrible customer service from the same girl each time. She is a young blonde female on the heavier side. Today she was wearing a sweat shirt and baseball cap and is always on the register to the left as you enter. I walk up to her register because she has no one in line even though I have had crappy service from this same girl on my last 2 visits. She is kind of day dreaming or staring into space. She also has a "I hate my job/My life/The world" look on her face. When she does realize she has a customer she just stares at me and does not speak to me or greet me in any way. I give her my order, she takes my money, hands me my change and order number and again does not thank me or speak to me at all. How do you conduct an entire transaction with a customer and not speak one single word to them?? No hello, how are you, no thank-you have a good day, nothing! Also the woman with the glasses at the front counter snapped at me when I asked for another cup of the hot dip by responding with "I already put one on your tray, how many more do you want?" SMH Really? If you wouldn't serve your dip in thimble size plastic cups I would not have to ask for more or better yet keep the dip in a container on the tables the way most barbeque joints do. Also you need to have a SEPARATE area to pick up your food away from the main counter. Even though people are given an order number, they still crowd around the counter area like they are afraid someone will steal their food before they can pick it up once their order number is called. This makes it difficult to know who's in line and who isn't plus I have almost had my tray knocked out of my hand several times by people that crowd the main counter area bumping into me. When its really busy, the front counter area is total chaos because of this. Its hard to wade thru the sea of people to get your food once your number is called, then once you do pick up your food, its hard to navigate the sea of people crowded around the counter with a tray full of food in your hands to get into the dining room so you can eat. If I am not valued as a customer here, then why should I continue to eat here and give them my hard earned money? Also you might want to take a look at other Yelp reviews as I am not the only one complaining about about your rude staff. Its time to make some changes and hire people that will give much better customer service than what I received on my last 3 visits. I will have to think long and hard if I will eat here the next time I'm in Lincolnton. Maybe I need to start going to City Lunch more often. At least there I am ALWAYS given a friendly greeting when ordering and a Thank-You when I pick it up, plus I can eat some really good food there for less than half of what it costs me to eat here. read more
