    Smoked chicken wing plate

BBQ is a STAPLE in the Lincoln/Gaston county area. Growing up we'd go to BBQ king often but didn't think much of it as a kid. Haven't been in a couple years just because I'm hardly on this side of town but picked up Togo tonight on the way to a ballgame.. and OH MY GAHHHH.. just told my husband we'll be back probably weekly on the way to our kid's games now. I called it in on the way and it was ready within 10 minutes. The wings were AMAZING!! smoked to perfection, crispy skin, juicy inside. Dipped in the classic bbq sauce was to die for.. I'm not a huge fry person but these were great! And the SLAW, uhhh mazing...

Ordered the BBQ plate, got fries, hush puppies, and baked beans. The fries was alright everything else was extremely good! Would recommend giving it a try.

Not the best BBQ I've ever had. Not the worst BBQ I've ever had. Middle of the road. Not over whelming but, certainly not underwhelming. I did choose this restaurant upon the recommendation of a colleague who said it was the best BBQ in town. I love his enthusiasm, but I would tend to say that this was just OK. I did call for a pick up order and the woman I spoke to on the phone was super friendly and helpful. I put my dinner recommendation in her hands and she suggested the platter. The bladder comes with pulled pork and three choices and sides. I chose a coleslaw, green beans, and onion rings (of which she highly recommended). The pulled pork was plentiful and juicy. The sides of sauce they give you add a nice touch of sweetness and BBQ twain. The green beans were good, the only rings were very good, but the coleslaw left a lot to be desired. Not only was the coleslaw very limited in its portion size but it had very little flavor. I did ask about the sweet tea. She raved about it. A good call on her part. It was terrific.

When my Mother was alive and was a resident at an Assisted Living Center in Lincolnton, my Sister Martha would take her out for Lunch several times a month. BBQ King was one of her favorites. Her favorite menu item was Sliced BBQ with a Lexington Style Sauce. Personally I prefer Chopped BBQ with the Eastern NC Pepper Vinegar Style myself. Several of my friends love BBQ King as well and I think I went one time maybe 40 years ago. The have been around since 1971. All of the meat is smoked on site starting in the very early morning and everything is prepared on site. A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I drove over for Saturday Lunch. It's a through back to an earlier time for BBQ Houses but it's a nice touch. In honor of my Mother, I ordered the Sliced BBQ Plate with the Lexington Sauce and a side of Red Slaw and Onion Rings. My wife ordered the Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwich with a side of French Fries. The BBQ was good but in the end, next time I'm going back to my Chopped BBQ with Pepper Vinegar Sauce. This is a taste I acquired when I was in College back in 1960's in Eastern NC. My wife loved her Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwich and the Fries were good as well. Note that this is one of the places that does not accept plastic. Cash Only but they do have an ATM on premise. Fortunately I had cash on me where I did not have to bother with the ATM but just so you know, Cash only but they do take checks. Only other place I know that operates with this business model is Randy's BBQ in Troutman and Statesville. Will be back and give it another try later this year when it warms up and then I can sample the Chopped BBQ

I stop here only for the burgers and onion rings! Really really good!

I am not a fan of their BBQ. I think for me its a pork shoulder vs butt thing. IMO, a butt makes way better pulled pork. That being said, they have some really really good hand pattied burgers and some great onion rings and for those two items, I will definitely return again and again. So four stars for the burgers and onion rings only.

Very disappointed in this meal. The sandwich looked like a biscuit and the fries might as well been wood branches. Yuck!

It's a favorite of the locals and the lunch menu runs heavy on Dogs and Burgers. It's a local favorite with a good lunchtime crowd and it appears to be a favorite with the Firefighters. I went a long time ago when I was active in politics because we had some functions at the Court House and it was just a short walk over but that was something like 40 years ago. A review by a fellow Yelper, Sam J. reminded me of this place so I decided to give them a try. Their hours are limited from 5am till 2 pm and not open on the weekend. With this in mind, tried on two occasions to hit this window only to find them closed both times. The first was a Monday and there was a big funeral in town with a massive Funeral Courtage with most of the Fire Department Equipment in the Courtage. Someone suggested they were closed for this. The following was the next week on a Friday and closed again. Did find that evening that they had a Facebook page and they had posted that they were going to be closed that day. I never refer to Facebook when I am looking for Restaurant Hours or Menu. Bottom line is consider calling first like I did on Wednesday. Walked in and got in line to order at the counter. Took a few minutes but I ordered the #2 Combo with is two dogs all the way (minus Coleslaw - in NC, coleslaw goes on everything) a bag of Chips and choice of drinks which in my case was a 7-UP. Gave me a cup of ice, my 7-Up and bag of chips plus a numbered tent for my table. Found a table and sat down and waited. Took a while but eventually my number was called, and I went back to the Counter to pick up my lunch which was in a Brown Bag. Went to back to my table and proceeded to lunch. The two dogs were excellent with generous amounts of delicious Chile but a bit on the dry side. Copious amounts on Onions as well. The Dogs themselves were some of the best I have had. Nice and plump with great snap and flavor. In other words, the Dogs were great and at $3.25 for the Combo, price cannot be beat. Service is good but since everything is made to order, not instantious so you have to be patient. It is worth the wait however. Ambience is casual and it's more of a hole in the wall but often those are the hidden gems with great food and prices. That's the reason they have been here since 1957.

They have so many options for food that are normally not available for people with allergies. I couldn't decide on one thing so I ordered several things. For starters, the chicken sandwich was huge. It was perfectly fried and very crispy. The bun held together and didn't fall apart. If you are gluten free, you know this is hard to find. I would say I only ate about 1/3 of the sandwich, it was so large. I also ordered the fried okra which were very crispy and the coating was light and flavorful. It's one on my favorite things to order here and a can't miss if you love fried okra. The next favorite was hush puppies. They reminded me of the hush puppies I used to eat growing up and have missed dearly. The prefect combination of sweet and crunchy. And i couldn't leave without trying the fried pickles. The owner, Lisa, and I were speaking about all the options and I told her how much I love having all these options. She included a small side of spicy pickles for me to try and they were even better than the regular. Not overly spicy and a great combination with breading and ranch dressing. I can't wait to return to try the fried jalapeños and the brisket. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The prices are amazing. I ordered all of the food (6 different things) and a drink for $26. It was way more than I could eat but I wanted to try it all. The atmosphere is casual and the booths are cafeteria style for a very comfortable, southern experience.

Sam was our server and she was amazing -- super attentive and made sure I got my order in just before breakfast ended . To start, I had a cortadito and a ham & cheese croqueta -- both were the perfect warm-up for my taste buds. For my main, I ordered a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich with pepper jack cheese and asked if the ham could be warmed up. Sam made sure it came out just right! Hubby had a glass of fresh orange juice and two rellenos de papa (potato balls) -- and let me tell you, those were ! The food was soooo good -- seriously, the eggs were perfectly fluffy, even inside the sandwich . Just thinking about it now makes my mouth water! Later, I ordered a café bonbón but asked for the espresso to not be sweetened -- and it hit the spot perfectly. Smooth, rich, and bold . The only tiny hiccup was the whipped cream on the tres leches cake -- it had a bit of a chemical taste, which was a little off. But the cake itself was still solid! I really loved the palm trees and decor, which gave the place such a laid-back, tropical vibe. My only suggestion would be to maybe brighten it up just a bit -- it felt a little dark inside, so a touch more lighting or a fresh color palette could really enhance the atmosphere. Sam also told us about the fun events and live bands they host -- I definitely want to come back and check those out!
