The entire place felt elevated but cozy - our table was upstairs under beautiful wooden beams and big windows overlooking the town. The vibe was lively but not too loud on a Tuesday evening. Service started out wonderfully and we regularly received fresh table settings between courses, however we had a switch in waitstaff later in the meal and it was incredibly slow at the end. No big deal since we weren't in a rush but something to note that it could be hit or miss. The food, on the other hand, was 100% on point. We ordered the potato crusted oyster appetizer and I was blown away - innovative and delicious. For my main, I got the halibut in a curry sauce that was just perfection. My friends tried the sea board, seaweed salad, and scallop gratin, and loved all of it. This meal was a highlight of our vacation.

Decent beer, friendly service and surprisingly nice views…read more This is an above average, but not amazingly good little brewpub in a cute town. The normal selection of beer is a pretty good flight of typical beers. The party wave hazy IPA from the normal line up stood out as both true to the style and very good. Not too sweet either. The featured limited release tap while we were there was the Brewmaster's Keep imperial stout aged on bourbon soaked oak (but apparently not actually in bourbon barrels). That was really fantastic, creamy and with just hints of bourbon sweetness. Our family of four was lucky enough to have the wrap-around table in the window looking out over the harbor and at the mountains, which was a great view. The food was about the same, but maybe a notch below the beer. I really enjoyed the beet, kale and feta salad, but the Reuben sliders my wife got weren't quite as good and the portions were on the small side. They had vanishingly little food for kids and even the "kids mac and cheese" wound up with onions in it and my son didn't eat it. They did make a bowl of plain rice for my daughter which she ate and they ate the chips that came with the Reuben sliders. The service was attentive and friendly the whole time and they had all the beers they had on tap also to go in cans.

I've had warm gas station lagers at 2am that treated me with more respect. If you like drinking pine needles soaked in battery acid with a hint of regret, this is your spot. One star.

We were confused. Our organizer's assistant had set this up. I was just along for the ride. What a ride it turned out to be. The reason they don't do tables of 8 became obvious when we realized that this was a 2 star Michelin star restaurant that didn't have the stars yet. Pretty hard to get the folks at Michelin to wander into Uculet BC. Trust me when I say - it doesn't matter if they've been anointed by the rubber tire makers, they qualify in any event. They graciously accommodated our slightly diminished group of 7 at one cobbled together table. This is a world class dining room entirely contained within the floor plate of a 20th century home. It likely holds about 20 people per seating. The kitchen pumps out tasty pieces of art. The artists studio is naturally designed for intimacy, not rambunctious conference attendees. They bent the rules and pushed the limits of the kitchen to ensure we all got to experience the service as designed. They pulled it off. The photos below give you a glimpse into the menu. It clearly ebbs and flows with the seasons, and they were also able to accommodate needed dietary restrictions. Claire, our lovely server, took the time to ask each of our names, and then used them correctly throughout the evening. We were no longer strangers, we were guests in this former home. It happened to be Claire's last night before she left on a personal hiatus. I hope they can find someone as lovely to replace her. The food was tasty and beautiful. The wine pairings were sublime (with one slight miss) and the chef's amuse bouche and little delights were woven into the experience in a way that surprised and delighted us throughout. If you enjoy world class, and you find yourself in Tofino or Uculet - make the effort and head over to Pluvio. 4.9/5

We dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon (around 5:00pm) and they were fairly busy. There's only two tables inside but the patio can fit another two to three groups. One bartender running the show; super chill and cozy spot to grab a few drinks. There's about a dozen mini cocktail options (gin, vodka and absinthe based), all at a reasonable price of $4.34 per drink. Bottles included vodka/gin ($25.00 for 375ml, $43.00 for 750ml) and absinthe ($40.00 for 375ml, $75.00 for 750ml). Sad that they were sold out of their arancello (orange vanilla) and limoncello. - The bee's knees ($4.34) - light, floral and refreshing. - Tijuana go surfing ($4.34) - this one was our favourite (and seemed to be what everyone else was ordering). A tantalizing kick from the jalapeno and a touch of sweetness. Get it. - Demon dog ($4.34) - beware, the absinthe is heavy on the anise but still stays smooth and enjoyable. Worth a try but we aren't huge absinthe drinkers. Awesome spot to enjoy a few mini cocktails. Make sure you try the jalapeno vodka.

The restaurant is in an historic building downtown and seems to be a part of a city revitalization effort. Inside, the restaurant is well appointed and there are many tables with views. We chose the bar area for a more social vibe. The bar seating is a bit awkward for socialization with the bartenders or other patrons. The staff we met were super friendly even though they were quite busy. We both had drinks. My wife had a Cranberry Fizz which was executed well and made her happy which makes me happy. The rosemary bread is excellent and makes for good snacking with the libations. I had the steak frites for an entre and my wife had a Caesar salad. Both plates were elevated in technique and presentation. My steak was the proper temp, but could had used more seasoning. Everywhere we go on the Island, the only steak choice seems to be flat iron. Why? Where is the rest of the cow going? Anyway, we like this restaurant very much and reccomend you try it if you want something better than a burger and a beer while in Port Alberni.

It is so rare to see a pickle dip on a menu and being a pickle obsessed connoisseur (yes I've been to pickle fest) I had to order it as an appy. My husband and I devoured it in about 5 mins. Great choice to pair with a salty ripple chip! For our mains, I got the oven baked chicken wings which I give full props on the crunch factor for an oven baked wing. My only qualm was the hot sauce was more like a sweet salsa. Totally fine if that's your vibe but I would maybe rebrand it as abit like a sweet salsa over a hot sauce. When I think wings and hot sauce, I'm thinking something more like a Franks. I also was thrilled when our server asked if I wanted it on the side as the wings stay even crispier if you put the sauce on after and I was so happy she shared this as it was a great reco.
