As a hotelier, I tend to be pretty critical when it comes to customer service and quality. My experience at B Cake was so good, I just had to share with my fellow Yelpers! I came to B Cake for my little nephews' 1st birthday party. My brother set the superhero theme and it was my duty to procure the cake for little Cooper. I called on the phone and afraid my last minute request would have been a resounding no, they asked me to come into the store to see what they could do to help me in such short notice. They need 3 weeks and I was calling 1 week out. I arrived in the store and the first thing I noticed was the aroma of some beautiful delicious cake. I was immediately greeted and given the opportunity to sit and talk about my needs. I came prepared with a picture of what I was looking for and then the real fun started... The tasting! After making my way through 3 of the 6 options, I settled on the Blue Velvet with cream cheese frosting. Although they promised me that the blue was not food coloring and all natural, they wouldn't divulge their secret ingredient. In any case it was moist and delicious and certainly unique. It's also good to note that this bakery is 100% peanut free and therefore safe for kids/adults with allergies. The day of the party I picked up my cake as scheduled and again greeted with nothing but kindness. They showed me the cake before boxing it up and graciously secured it in my car. Needless to say, the cake was the highlight of the party and both the children and adults were awed at not just the design but the cake itself. It was SO good! Moist flavorful, not too sweet. Best. Cream Cheese. Frosting. Ever. The cakes are on the higher end and not cheap by any means. Keep in mind though that a lot of work goes into them and they are truly works of art. 3 1/2 stars, I had been following them on Instagram for a while and was dying to try this bakery. The visuals of their beautiful creations are just as much a part of the experience as actually eating them. We got a Starwberry, Chocolate and Red Velvet cupcake. The Starberry was the better of the 3, the strawberry flavor clearly coming through without completely taking over. The chocolate was good as well, with a cocoa flavor that reminded me more dark chocolate than milk chocolate, which I appreciated. The Red Velvet was just good. Everything was good, but nothing was mind blowing. What I didn't love about the cupcakes is that the texture is a bit drier/crumbly than I prefer. They make astonishing looking cakes which is what brought me to try them in the first place, however I think their lack of pricing guidlines for their cakes is a bit pretentious. Clearly they have a large celebrity clientele, which they shamelessly advertise. The wall is full of celebrity photos with their cakes. And I believe this is why there are no cake prices listed anywhere in store, or on their website last I checked, which for a regular customer like myself can be intimidating. The mystery of of possibly being met with an exorbitant price discouraged me from even inquiring about a cake. It seems like only the people who have a limitless budget would feel confident enough to inquire about ordering a cake with any real intent-and the celebrity photos only seem to confirm this. I like places like Magnolia Bakery, that despite the infamy gained by their Sex And The City feature, they display straight forward and fair pricing that even the most humble fan can feel comfortable walking in knowing they'll be able to indulge in their treats. read more

Not impressed. Walked in to this place and the customer service was horrible. No images to share "go search IG" and "our cakes start at $500". I understand that this place gets a lot of celebrity clientele because that's how i heard of them but the treatment seems like they are only interested in celeb clients and can take or leave normal people's business. I've order custom cupcakes from BCake NY twice now. These cupcakes with pictures and a personal message are always a hit. First order was for my friend's engagement and second was for my sis-in-laws bday. To be honest I've never eaten one, because they disappear soooo fast. But my friends rave at how moist and fresh the cupcakes are. Used them for our wedding cake in 2015 and it was delicious. However, since then I've had poor experiences with them. Tried to order a small, simple cake for 2 for our anniversary and forgot until about a week before (admittedly completely my fault). They said no but can do cupcakes. Why no cake but can do decorated cupcakes? Cakes are all "custom" and need minimum 4 weeks. Even when I said "ok but I literally just want plain vanilla on vanilla, small, no decorations," doesn't matter; cupcakes are the only option. Fine, ordered cupcakes. Then when I needed to reschedule the pickup time to after work, 3 days ahead of time, they said 6:30pm is when they close and I need to call to make sure someone stays. Online it says 7pm. Both times I've called staff have been pretty short, no effort to accommodate, and non-apologetic. I'm pretty upset that I now have bitter memories of the place I got my wedding cake from. I love this place. I had my son's party on Sunday. Ms. Garnett hand created his personalized Batman cake on the spot with her iPad. It took her about 15-20 mins to create magic! I was very impressed by the customer service I received. The cake was the talk of the party. I love a pretty cake but I've had many cakes that are gorgeous but taste horrible; Bcake was the only exception. This Batman cake was to die for, looked amazing and also tasted fantastic. We chose red velvet and vanilla. It was fresh, delicious and very moist. The best cake I've eaten to date, hands down. My mother is still asking for the cake, it's gone mom!! Lol. Luckily, a sign mentioned they were undergoing renovations therefore, I made my final call. Great, someone answered and rushed me off the phone only after telling me to walk-in any time between 12-6 on Tuesday, an entire week later. I went at 12:45, it was cattle call and once I spoke to someone she simply said "sorry that date was just booked." Then continued on to another person. WTH. Unwavering, uncompromising and unwilling to offer alternatives. Who knows? Maybe the evening prior to my date was free, but she gave me none of her time. read more

They will do a technically challenging cake but in comparison to the cakes they have on their site, the one I got had pretty sloppy looking fondant. The mortar board covered with fondant had impressions and thumbprint smudges BFR they packed up the box. Ribbon along the board slightly coming off too. I was in a hurry, had already paid in full over multiple credit cards -_- and didn't say anything. BUT FOR A $500 CAKE you bet I expect perfection! All in all the execution was good, they made a complex shape--but the presentation of it was super sloppy which makes the overall effect of the cake disappointing. I would forgive even the above except that the people there seem a bit disorganized and a little sassy--even before I came in for the tasting. I think they need to work on their customer service, but they probably don't feel like they need to because they have plenty of people coming in. Also think the prices are very high given the very random location address--very hard to get to from city. read more

To break this down: 1) Cost is high. 2) Taste is quite good, especially if you like buttercream. Nothing unusual. Fair amount of variety. 3) Presentation is *very* hit and miss (more below) depending on what you order. Do not rely on images on their webpage for guidance. 4) Customer service is lacking, to say the least. I had no problems with BCakeNY until I went to pick up the cake. They were clear with what they needed from me (I was having book covers scanned to make a stack-of-books cake) and I provided. I heard nothing from the time I sent the scans in until the day before the pickup when I called to confirm all was on track. When I arrived the top of the stack of books was clearly bisected by a line through the lower half of the image, a line that continued down the side ("spine") of the book stacks. There was a visible separation both there and along the edges of the "books." A quick fix in the back returned a smudgy area that did not cover the split. A final quick decision was made to put a bookmark and tassel over the majority of the split and spine. It did not cover the entirety of the split. What should have been a quick pickup turned into a half-hour wait. They gave me cupcakes and said to call the following week. My issue was this: There was no heads up that this might happen. No call in which someone said "this will have to be what happens if you want a cake that serves this amount of people." No option presented ahead of time for me to say "OK, I can live with that" or "OK, let's make it a smaller, but neater cake." This is a terrible kind of lack of communication. My second issue came in trying to resolve the issue. While no one was directly rude on the phone, they clearly did not see this as a problem. I was told it happens on all of their book cakes. If you look at their book cakes on their site, there are no splits (though if you see a stack with a bookmark on it, that might be my order). When I pointed that the images were therefore misleading, I was told that because those book covers were dark the split might not show. Go ahead and check for yourself -- including the lighter colored cakes -- there is no split. What I got, rather than a mea culpa or even a vague hint at some kind of token percentage refund -- standard operating procedure in a professional business -- was a lot of no responsibility taken, and patronizing double-speak designed to get me off the phone as quickly as possible. Professional is professional; anyone should have high presentation standards for their work. When you charge the rates a company like this does you should have an even higher standard, and customer service that goes beyond handing over some free cupcakes. Buyer beware with this company, which I do not plan to use again. read more

This place has been bookmarked for me for the longest time and I'm so glad I finally got to go. I picked up four cupcakes - one vanilla, one strawberry, a blue Hennessy, and a regular (white frosting) Hennessy cupcake. Yes, I ate all four and they were all delicious. Moist, and not sugary or grainy, it was difficult to stop indulging. You don't need to order a customized cake but for any events coming up, they should be first on your list to consider. You can even stop by when you're in the area, after visiting the museum perhaps, and grab some cupcakes or cake pops to go. After trying some cup cakes from BcakeNY while getting my hair done at H2 Salon in Brooklyn I was hooked and convinced that my next event would be serviced by them for the desert. I went in approximately 2 months before my event and was given a tasting and a cake consultation. I was told to return when my event was approximately 1 month out. I returned and lucky I had taken a photo of the draft I had with the first cake consultant and we recreated the order and I made my deposit. On the day of the event I had someone else pick up the order. One small hickup and I will talk about it. No one is perfect we all make mistakes. I'm HUGE on recovery and that is what they did well. I was missing a dozen cupcakes from my order. I called the bakery and they came up with a quick solution to have the cupcakes Ubered to my venue. Not only did my missing cupcakes arrive but an additional dozen as well. The moment of truth was up to my guests and that moment came and the cupcakes went! I was already confident in the quality of the product so I knew they would enjoy them but the rants and raves never stopped coming. I had a collage cake done for my 40th birthday this month. First off let me say their customer service is good, I was tended to right away when I went I. For the tasting and to place the initial order for my cake. My cake cast $300. I was cool with the price because 40 was important to me and I wanted a nice cake. I had images of my own paintings sent that would go on as collage on the cake. My cake was supposed to be purple with silver trim. The strip with the words happy birthday was supposed to be silver., 40 on top in silver fancy. Collage of my paintings going around it. Fast forward to December 18th I went in to pick up my cake in my birthday. When they brought out my cake I was disappointed instantly. Cake was white, the collage was poorly executed, the 40 was gray in color. My husband was with me and we both said that the cake was supposed to be purple with the silver 40 and the silver strip. This young lady went to the back and literally dusted purple glitter on the top of the cake. And added glitter to the 40. And that was it. Now I get that they are high end and their cakes cost big money and they do big things for celebrities but I felt like my cake was poorly done. What I expected after looking at all the great work they put forward for other people, I got "whatever". And it's funny how they knew they did shit, but made it seem like it was excellent. As an artist I know what works and what doesn't. Somehow my husband loved the cake better than I did. He took pics and as a whole the cake looked good but to me the person that the cake was for, it didn't come together well. I expressed my issue to them via instagram message and was told I would be called the following day, but no one ever called. $300 is a lot for a chocolate cake. Mrs maxwell if they go out of business would've done a greater job for way less. I would say this, treat all your customers equally regardless of how much they pay for a cake. Treat your work with respect and give your customer full 100% nothing less. Will I use them again, no. Absolutely not. read more

I ordered a 2 tier cake for a 60th birthday party. My friend and I were disappointed with the cake. A $600 cake that looked like it shouldn't have been no more then $300. Looking back, I can't believe I actually agreed to paying that amount of money for a tier. Even with the two tiers, had it been more detailed we could have gotten past it. I would definitely come back here for cake/cupcakes for another event. I got cupcakes here for my baby shower and they were so accommodating. I only gave them 1 week notice. We came in for 20 mins to discuss details and for the tasting. We emailed them images that we want as toppers and they were a big hit at the shower. Everyone loved the strawberry flavor and i was in love with the chocolate with white chocolate frosting. I've already passed along their info to a few ppl now and would highly recommend to anyone thats looking. The only downside i would say is their delivery fee. $75 no matter where in the city. I'm torn as I write this review because 3 years ago I was introduced to this place by my friend handing me the best cupcake I've ever tasted, EVER. It was absolute love at first bite. Their cupcakes were moist, light and not too sweet, the frosting was absolutely perfect, to this day I still think about those cupcakes. Fast forward to today, I'm not much of a sweets fan but I was craving a nice cupcake and immediately my thoughts went to the best cupcake I've ever had. I didn't think they sold their cupcakes in the store (they do sell a few) and I knew I'd want at least 6 so I decided to place an order online and pick up in 48hrs, my memory of these cakes were so great that I was willing to delay my gratification (this never happens). I tried to keep my expectations low as I've noticed reviews seemed to go downhill over the last couple years but alas, I was still disappointed. I ordered a dozen assorted cupcakes (vanilla, choc, red velvet and strawberry). The little moist cupcakes from my memory were no where to be found. The cake wasn't completely dry, they were edible. I first have to say this place was rather easy to find and very welcoming upon entry. And I wanted to taste what I was buying. The lady at the counter (Sorry I'm bad with names) ordered up a cake tasting and my mouth just watered at the sound. My hand went straight into action loosening my tie from around my neck and I waited and watched for what seemed like hours for the platter to arrive. ( It was only about a minute to be truthful) LMAO! The cakes were good. Henny infusion, was ok but I loved the Blue Velvet as my #1. Red Velvet came in at #2. Chocolate was ok. Due to allergies I could not have strawberry on my plate or at my event. Sorry guests! So I settled on buying red and blue velvet cupcakes. Simple yet me and they came out great. Now for every event I order here even if its last minute. They always take care of me especially when I need more right at pickup. Go here for a tasting. We had a winter wonderland theme and I wanted the cake to have snowflakes, but not look like a child's Frozen cake. The place was also accommodating to give us a dark blue velvet (the one they typically offer is like a Tiffany blue, but I did not want that color). The cake was pricey, but we were able to put down a deposit and finish paying closer to the day.
