The employees at Island Rentals are amazing!!! Informative and fun to watch and it was great to see that the employees enjoyed what they were doing. The cart we were given was an electric cart which was comfortable and easily moved around the streets of Santa Catalina Island. We saw so many wonderful views and interesting homes on the route. Island Rentals only takes paper money and a deposit is taken upfront. Try not to rush through the route. Enjoy the scenery and the vistas. Take in the sights and sounds of this beautiful city. If you go past the required time, don't worry. A prorated amount will just be deducted from the deposit and you may get cash back. Definitely a return visit call next time we are back in Santa Catalina Island!!!

Cash only. I didn't research ahead of time. 2. I was solo. It's hard to drive and record content, like I intended to do. 3. I can't read a map. I had planned to tool around town for two hours, but in less than an hour I was so lost, I recruited a local teenager to direct me back to the rental shop. Only stayed out one hour. I was given my $60 back. Next time I'll use my Mapquest and stay for the full two hours. Side note: Golf carts are a bit noisy, a little uncomfortable seating and you have to press the gas pretty hard. 10/10, highly recommend, but for me and my issues.......

My husband and I chartered a private boat to Catalina Island to celebrate his birthday. We were excited to make the most of the day, and renting e-bikes was something we had been looking forward to after already renting a golf cart. When we arrived, we watched Kathy assist the Hispanic couple in front of us and the white couple behind us. When it was our turn, however, she told us that e-bike rentals were "reservation only." I explained that we were all together as one group and that neither of the other couples had reservations. Instead of acknowledging that, she said, "Well, you can just rent the golf carts." I told her we had already rented a golf cart earlier that day, and she responded, "Well, you've seen everything. No need to rent an e-bike." I was stunned. Not only did her explanation make no sense, but after watching her rent e-bikes to others without reservations, it was impossible not to notice the difference in how we were treated. Based on our experience, I left feeling that we were denied service because we are African American. I also couldn't shake the feeling that my husband's appearance--he is a larger man--may have influenced the way we were treated. I felt embarrassed, humiliated, and angry. What should have been a fun birthday celebration turned into an experience that left us feeling unwelcome and singled out. When I asked to speak with the manager, Kathy simply replied, "I am the manager," leaving us with no way to address our concerns. Whether intentional or not, the way we were treated was unacceptable. Every customer deserves to be treated fairly and with respect. I cannot recommend Catalina E-Bike Company based on our experience. If you're visiting Catalina Island and want to support businesses that make all customers, feel welcome, I would encourage you to look elsewhere.
