I have been using BCP pharmacy for about 4 years. As a compounding pharmacy, they are able to make my cat's medication into liver-flavored soft treats that my cat enjoys. I was never able to force this cat to take pills or liquid. Now she takes her medicine willingly. Since she will be on this med for life, it's a game changer, for me AND the cat. We recently had a dog that was diagnosed with dry eye. This required a compounded eye drop that she would need to have administered for the rest of her life. Our veterinarian has an online pharmacy, but the cost and "handling" fees for this medication were astronomical. Our vet recommended that I call around to other compounding veterinary pharmacies (most are in other states) to see if I could locate it for a more reasonable price. BCP was the one and only "compounding veterinary pharmacy" that was in Texas. Since BCP is located downtown, I knew that I could actually drive there to pick up a prescription rather than paying a pricey shipping cost. Called BCP to inquire whether they even compounded this ophthalmic solution. Thankfully they do. It was explained to me exactly how to obtain it from them (prescription would need to be sent direct from the vet's office). Within days, I received a call back from BCP telling me they had received the prescription and quoted me procedures for filling it and what the cost would be. Shocker! The price was SO reasonable - literally one-third of the price that I had paid previously for these eye drops. Wow! Sadly, within days of us needing this particular prescription filled, our dog went to The Rainbow Bridge due to heart failure. So, I never did get to go here, but my interactions with them up to that point were very positive. If you are in need of a compounded medication for whatever species of pet you may have, I would highly recommend that you contact BCP to determine if they can make it for you. Have you ever tried to give your cat a pill? If you have, then you might have the scars to show for it. Vets and pet stores carry different 'pill pockets', treats, and mechanical devices to try an aid in the giving of pills to cats and dogs. My experience is, it's just easy with some animals and TOUGH with others. BCP is a specialty pharmacy that ONLY deals with ANIMALS. If you need flavored pills with medication in them, BCP is the place! I had several dogs who had heart problems (all related to each other) and they needed daily medication while they were senior. BCP was able to take the medication they needed and make soft flavored chew pills out of them. They gave me the option of flavor (I believe I chose chicken). The dogs LOVED it. They typically hated pills but thought these were treats. I found out about it because my vet recommended it when I was having such a hard time getting my dog to take pills. She would order them and I thought they were quite expensive UNTIL one day she had forgotten and called in the order. I went to BCP directly (instead of having them delivered to my vet) and found out that the pills are cheap and the markup by the vet (and delivery cost) was what was making them pricey. From then on I called BCP, had them call the vet to verify the prescription, and picked them up myself! BCP does more than just flavored pills (which they make fresh for each prescription). VetChews are available in meat and fish flavors such as beef, tuna, liver, chicken, fish and seafood. They also make the chews for horses, rabbits, ferrets, etc... They have a bunch of crazy flavors like Sweet feed and alfalfa, yogurt and peanut butter, banana, cherry, apple, peach, apricot, etc... They also make medication for animals who take insulin and a variety of other problems. I don't use them anymore because my older dogs all passed away and my current dogs are all medication free! But, when these dogs get older and need medication, I will absolutely be back there getting the yummy flavored treats/pills. They make VetChews, Bovine PZI Insulin, Capsules, Suspensions, injectibles, medication for eyes, and Topical Products (stuff that goes through the skin). There is some limited parking at the facility, but they aren't usually busy. There is NO vet on premise. They are strictly a pharmacy, so you have to get your vet to call in the prescription to BCP. Some vets might be hesitant (because they have medications they can sell you at their place for profit) but a good vet will understand how much easier the chew pills will make your life. I'm sure I sound like a commercial for them, but that's how much easier they made our life (and our pet's life). read more

My cat is a nightmare to give a pill too, so when recently diagnosed with a condition that required oral medications for two months I became extremely alarmed. My vet through his interaction with my cat was also aware that pill shooters and the like were not going to be an option so he suggested BCP. BCP is an innovative alternative to administering meds to your pet by compounding the medication into a kitty treat..or dog, or bird for that matter. I would suggest that you give the treats in their pure form to your pet first. After this, just call and confirm your vets Rx and request the flavor your pet preferred. Also, be sure to ask for handouts on any side effects of the medications, just as you would for yourself. OH THANK HEAVENS FOR BCP. Seriously, this place is a total lifesaver when it comes to pet medications. My last vet prescribed prednisone and since my cat is a total jerk about taking pills, I had to get it in liquid form. And why a vet would give cherry flavored cat medicine, I have no idea. Fast forward to my new vet and last week's appointment resulting in, you guessed it, yet another prescription for prednisone (thanks kitty asthma, meow). This time around, my vet (in West Hartford) sent in a prescription to BCP in Houston, and all I had to do was call to confirm shipping details. I spoke with a lovely pharmacy rep, who, in addition to adding my shipping address and payment info, gave me a variety of flavor options including liver, chicken, bacon, fish, beef (and on and on). Who the hell cares as long as it's not cherry! Still, I know some pets have wonky preferences so I appreciated the choices. Giving my cat medicine is a world of difference now. Instead of running around like a maniac practically foaming at the mouth trying to regurgitate the prednisone, he takes it like a champ, curls back into a ball and takes a nap. Awwww, what a cool place! BCP stands for birds, cats and puppies. This compounding pharmacy specializes in veterinary prescriptions. My cat was recently prescribed a 21-day treatment of a nasty tasty antibiotic. I dreaded the treatment as the words left my vet's mouth, But, her next sentence, "I'm going to have you go to this compounding pharmacy we use all of the time" put me completely at ease. I called the pharmacy to let them know I would like to pick up later that day (a Friday night). Normally they don't rush order compounding prescriptions and need more than 24 hours to prepare them. They are also closed on weekends. However, not wanting my poor cat to have to wait 3 more days, they agreed to have it ready for me close to their closing time. And that they did! The staff was super friendly, very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions easily. The medication was ready for pick up even before the time they said it would be. I expected to pay quite a bit more for compounding like I had in California. The $21 cost for 21 days worth of treatment was far less than I would've expected! The transdermal gel that gets rubbed into my cat's ears every morning and evening is working great and she doesn't even know she's being medicated. This is so much better for both of us! And since my vet prefers to compound whenever possible vs. the other methods, I am happy that BCP is close, easy to get to and available for us to use. I think BCP Veterinary Pharmacy deserves a Nobel Prize for keeping the peace between me and my cats. I have two senior cats that are on medications they need to take for the rest of their lives, and under any other circumstances this would cause me to face each day with dread. One of my cats in particular is completely impossible to give pills to. He's the sweetest, most loving, gentlest cat in the world, but if you try to give him a pill or an eye-drop he will magically transform into a storm of flailing legs, and frantically whip his head this way and that so it is impossible to dose him. The medicated treats BCP makes for him have been a lifesaver - perhaps literally. He actually looks forward to getting his "special treats" every evening, and he has even begun to get his voice back, after I was told by the vet that his vocal cords had been permanently disabled by scar tissue due to the serious laryngeal infection he had a few years ago. I was overjoyed to hear his voice again, even if it is a strangely squeaky version of what it used to be! Also, BCP ships incredibly fast. I'm not sure how they do it - it's almost as if the moment I call them for a refill, they step into a time machine, go back two days, and deliver the order to the post office before I've ever even called in my order. I would recommend this pharmacy to anyone who has a cat that is difficult to medicate. I heard about them through a client with a really angry little cat and she said this is the only way she can get her to take her meds. I tried them as a last resort to put my cat on Prozac because I am at my wits end with her peeing on my things when the wind blows the wrong way. I tried using regular meds (liquid/tablet) and she would hide under my bed where I can't get her without removing the mattress every time I was home. I was really struggling with the situation until I tried this pharmacy's chews for cats. She literally comes running when she hears the bag open. I usually give her the chew tab and 4 treats to make the experience seem like it's positive for the queen herself. I decided to switch my other cat's meds to these chews and despite the fact that Texas is going through some and I was told shipping was delayed, I got my meds within 2 days. I am more than satisfied with this pharmacy. They are not only quick at making and sending an amazing product, but the staff is pleasant to speak with. read more

BCPVP was recommended from our doctor at Gulf Coast Veterinary Hospital, and we're glad to know that these type of services are available for our pet. It is easy to get to, located right on the semi-scary section of Midtown, and the medication you order can be delivered to your home for $11 or picked up in about a 24-hour turn around. When I called to place the order, I was greeted by a friendly staff, and the pharmacist I spoke to was also very accommodating. I love the idea of having a treat form for my pet's medication, as the liquid option is promptly salivated out by my cat as soon as she realized the medicine is close to her mouth. A 2-week, twice a day supply that was compounded for her was about $25, and although she still won't take the medication, I'm glad I gave it a shot. Next, I'll see what they can do about adjusting the flavor so that it may be more appetizing for her. read more

I am so happy I found this place, it is a literal life saver! It took me years to find a decent compounded form of medications for my cat. He needs daily meds but is absolutely impossible to get a pill into. Now that I can get his meds in treat form, he begs for his "treats" and hoovers them up like candy! My life is so much easier now. I would love this place even if the customer service sucked, but honestly, they could not be any nicer or more helpful. Plus, even with paying for the shipping, the meds cost less than having them compounded locally (into a form he wouldn't touch)! I am sorry to be the lone voice of negativity about BCP, but my review is based on my experiences. My vet suggested I get my cat's medication directly from BCP since my cat is now going to be on it for life and the vet's office gets this medication from them anyway. When I contacted BCP it took some time for them to sort out that I needed to call my vet back and have my vet call them before they could open an account. When I called back after my vet called BCP, it took over a half-hour, most of it on hold, just for the BCP staff to create an account for me, and it turned out that the the requirement for next-day shipping meant that the cost wouldn't actually be cheaper than getting it from the vet as the vet had hoped. Plus, BCP's policy is to send out flavored medication in set batches, so that I actually get fewer flavors in each batch than I got from the vet's office - again, the opposite of what my vet had hoped would happen when suggesting I contact them directly. (When I asked why the flavors had to be sent out in a minimum of certain amounts, I was put on hold again so the person talking to me could ask someone else, and they returned with the answer, "That's just the way the policy is.") Additionally, the requirement that someone be home to sign makes the requirement for next-day shipping due to stated potency concerns kind of baffling, since if no one is home to sign, the box just goes back on the truck anyway. So after all of that, I started considering that perhaps it would be better just to go back to getting my BCP meds from my vet, where I can pick them up any time that's convenient and can get more flavors per batch. But I was undecided about what to do at first. What sealed my decision to stop ordering from them - and garnered them a one-star review from me - was what happened next. There was some problem with the very first batch of meds I got directly from them. I am as sure as I can be that the problem is the medication because: 1) I *was* home the day they delivered it, so it was sent overnight and then immediately unpacked by me; 2) everything is the same as it was from the vet, who also gets meds from BCP - I got two of the same flavors I had gotten from the vet, and the dosage was the exact same one, and I stored them in the same place as I had stored the ones from the vet; 3) however, despite everything being the same, there was something wrong with the meds themselves, to the point where some of them were actually DESSICATED when I opened the little packet containing a single med. I called my vet first, and my vet said it sounded like I got a bad batch that was only partly effective, and my vet was very hopeful that if I contacted BCP myself and explained the situation, they would send a replacement package. My vet was actually hopeful that they would send me a complimentary replacement package, but as I would subsequently discover, they would refuse to even send me a replacement package at full price. When I called BCP and explained the situation as my vet had suggested, the pharmacist who answered said in an extremely condescending tone, "You understand that hyperthyroidism is progressive, right?" which even if it hadn't been condescending, would not have been accurate - the information I got directly from my vet and everything I have read in books/etc. suggests that if a cat is responsive to medication, hyperthyroidism is typically NOT progressive, and certainly not abruptly progressive just a few weeks after a cat was doing so well that my vet described my cat's blood test results as "perfect." Even though I explained that some of the meds were so "off" that they were dessicated when I opened them, the pharmacist denied that anything was wrong with the meds, blamed my cat's health, implied that my vet was irresponsible for telling me to call the pharmacy in the first place, and suggested I have new blood work done on my cat. All of this despite the fact that my cat was doing just fine on THEIR medication when I got it from my vet instead of when I got it shipped directly from them. (Yes, to repeat one last time, both times it was their medication - both when he was doing well and now that he suddenly wasn't.) At this point even if there was some way to sort this out I wouldn't use them again. I have never in my life been treated so rudely by a pet health care professional, and I have lived with a lot of sick animals in my lifetime. read more

I called to order Enro, Miconazlole, Triamcinalone ear meds for a cat and the pharmacist was sort of unhelpful and unfriendly so I cancelled the order and called Roadrunner instead. She was also unable to give me details about the meds on the phone. She said to look at their website which was lacking in detail. I've been outstandingly happy with BCP . You don't need to be home to accept medication because You can have a release for your front door on file of their office. I also get medication sent overnight since I'm either in the shower or running an errand I could have it released to my front door without a Signature, They keep your signature on file And will not require a signature each time. I was spending $120 plus tax a month on one vial of insulin for my cat. Once the company I used to use Prior seven-year stop making it I searched and found BCP pharmacy compounded the same Insulin with very slight variation. The best thing is it's only $44 a vile with $12 Overnight shipping comes out to $56 which I Overjoyed ! My cats been a diabetic for 10 years, I was going broke between that bill insulin syringes so happy I finally can save some money on the insulin now With BCP. read more

Both of my rescue cats love to get sick and take medicine (no, not really), so this place is a godsend. They can compound just about any medication into an easy-to-administer chewie tablet or oral suspension, and they've even got some kind of gel that goes into a pets' ears. Incredible. A godsend. I used this pharmacy many years ago for feline thyroid med, and they saved my cat's life, as she would take nothing but BCP vet chews. Now we have three 15 year old feral cats on four different meds, and we have them all shipped to NC by BCP. We have tried other compounders, but nothing the cats will eat. It's great this place exists. We have pets that are on meds for life and didn't realize the main reason their medications were heart-stoppingly expensive was the shipping charge to get them from this pharmacy a few miles to the vet. Since getting the news we can order and pick them up directly from BCP, it has saved us a bundle, and we get the medications at least one day sooner. There were some times when we had to wait for a callback from the vet to authorize refills, and a transition while BCP took on the load of filling a lot more prescriptions directly for customers, but generally it has been a big help to deal directly with BCP. read more
