This is our second time using BD for our flooring. (recommended by multiple family members before us) We encountered cupping and buckling from some water damage that happened a couple months ago and needed someone right away. We couldn't be happier, again, with the work. We had brand new hardwood put down, and had him refinish a large portion of the hardwood he put down about 10 years ago, including the damaged wood. Words cannot properly express how happy I am with our newly refinished hardwood floors. Bogdan (aka Bo or BD) and his son made the entire thing flow seamlessly. Everything was straightforward and he took the time to explain every aspect of the process to us so we'd know what we were getting ourselves into, something other companies we brought out to give quotes failed to do. We were given an at-home quote that came in slightly higher than the competitions' but we felt much more comfortable proceeding with BD as our hardwood refinishing company. The previous owners of our house had installed carpet that simply had to go. We were ecstatic to find that really nice hardwood was underneath, but it needed some TLC. There were a few problem areas from years of wear and tear: the staining wasn't even, the boards were waxy and had lots of little holes left behind from pulling out 10,000,000 staples. There were also dog pee stains and other oddities. BD assured us that he could do a good job to minimize, if not completely erase, any signs of distress. I had an idea of what I wanted in my head and BD was willing to do just that, but he brought up many good points about the process and pricing that I never would have considered. I had originally wanted the floors a much darker stain, like Chris C posted. BD said he could do it but noted that the cost is higher since you have an additional steps between prepping and staining and there were other factors that would significantly raise the rate. He also mentioned darker floors can be harder to maintain since they can show scratches more easily and dust and dirt can be easier to spot on them. Thus, we ended up going with a much lighter stain, but I am so thrilled with the results! BD estimated it would take about 1.5 days to complete the job and then we'd need to wait overnight for everything to dry. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, the project took twice that long. Whoever "maintained" the floors previously had basically put layer after layer of coating without removing it, which meant all of that had to be sanded off before any repair work could be done. Our floors temporarily broke one of his sanding machines, but he has more than one in case of emergencies. He ended up using enough sandpaper for what he said he'd normally need for a home 5x larger than ours. I saw the pile of discarded paper myself and it was quite impressive. So, instead of sanding for part of the day, he ended up sanding from 8am until a little after 6:30pm on the 1st day and apologized profusely. We weren't charged for additional time or work, so I personally was fine with this and told him he could take as long as he needed as long as a good job was done. And it was! They finished sanding on the 2nd day and then went to work on filling all the little holes and closing some of the gaps between the boards. He explained that the way people install wood flooring had changed a bit and ours was done one of the older ways. He was able to get it so there was a nice, smooth surface with fewer gaps between the boards. We went with the stain "Special Walnut." The example I found and wanted copied was by Minwax but there's a professional grade he used with a different brand name. This stain process typically costs a little bit more since it has some of the same steps used when applying a very dark stain, but I felt it was well worth it. He used a technique called "water popping" to bring out the patterns of the grain and it's gorgeous! We were fortunate enough to not be moved into our home when this was done. You would definitely want to get everything off from the floors you're having done and move furniture and other items to another area. The process is virtually dust-free with the type of sander and vacuum he uses, but there was still some post-construction dust. You'd definitely want to cover as many things as possible so they aren't affected by this type of work. You'd also want to find other accommodations for the duration since the stain and sealant are very odorous. When all was said and done, we paid for the work and he went over care instructions with us. We could move in furniture the next day but he strongly suggested we not put any rugs down for at least 2 weeks. He also recommended against using any type of wet solution to clean the floors for at least 2 weeks. There was one very small quarter-sized spot on the floor in my Husband's office where the top coat had dried a little unevenly and bubbled up. We'd only been able to spot it at certain angles and we called BD a couple days later to come check it out and let us know what could be done. He said it's something that happens on occasion and can be corrected by sanding the board and reapplying the stain and finish. He offered to correct this free of charge, but we decided it wasn't necessary since it was so minor. We had simply wanted to know if it was something we should worry about and BD put our minds at ease. read more

Bogdan (Bo) just sanded and refinished the oak flooring in our two-story 75 yr. old Georgian and I am very happy with the results. After years of heavy traffic, three teenagers and as many dogs, our floors were worn beyond repair. Bo was recommended to me by my painter. The two of them coordinated their work beautifully, since the painting process was not affected by the dustless sanding. I could tell Bo knew wood and was confident the finish could be restored. My wife and I are very disappointed with the work that Bogdan and his teenage son did in our home. So Sad, I'm sure that at some point in Bogdan's past, he may have done excellent work, because his attitude is one that he takes of great pride in his work. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason to me, his work in my home was way under par. From the very beginning: he gave us a written estimate that we were happy with. Then, on the day he began working, he raised the price by $400. He said it was to haul away the old flooring. That's wrong... he knew when he wrote the estimate that the old flooring had to be hauled away. And then not to mention a price increase until he started to work, was very unprofessional, and perhaps a misleading estimate. Sanding and prepping the floor: He left many (many) nail holes unfilled and unfinished. He did not remove my refrigerator while he used his sanding/puffing machine, and as a result there are scratches and small dents on the front (near the bottom) of my refrigerator doors; which were caused by his machine while he sanded/buffed the floor; when he kept bumping and rubbing his machine against my refrigerator. Also, he did not put any polyurethane on the flooring under the refrigerator. When he inspected my floors as he wrote his estimate, he told me that he would remove the range and refrigerator from the kitchen floor. However, when he came to do the work, he showed up by himself and his teenage (high school age) son, and no one else. After he began working and removed a part of the old flooring, he stated to me that the refrigerator was too heavy for his son to move, and that he would not poly the floor under the refrigerator. Further, when we look at the finished floor, it appears that the sanding that the and his son did is very uneven and sloppy looking. Staining and Polyurethane: When he gave us an estimate, he told us that he would give us several samples of stain that he would put on a test piece of flooring. That did not happen, instead he had color samples on a ring of pre-colored samples. The color that we picked out was different (lighter in color) from the finished floor. Further, before he started to poly the floor, I asked Bogdan if the oil based polyurethane that he was using would discolor or darken the stain. He said no, the oil based polyurethane would dry perfectly clear. That was so wrong... as each coat of his oil based polyurethane actually darken the color of the floor/stain. After the two coats of polyurethane, the finish was so bad that I asked Bogdan to come out and look at his work. He did come out and inspect his work. He stated that the finish was full of dust and not his fault (well then who's fault was it?). However, after further discussion, Bogdan agreed to give the floor a third coating of polyurethane. Speaking of dust: Bogdan told us that his equipment would leave our home totally dust free... Another Wrong, we had dust on top of dust all over. Needless to say, we are not happy with the work done by Bogdan and his son. Before hiring BD Hardwood Floors, we researched several Flooring and Refinishing Companies before we ultimately chose Bogdan. When he came to give us an estimate, he seemed very professional and he spoke of how his son does such excellent work. Well as it turned out, he was talking about his older son (who was not there to do the work). Instead he had his younger son, a high school student, accompany him and help him with the work. The younger boy just did not have the experience of his older son. Bogdan should have hired someone that actually knew hat he was doing. read more

Here's the story: While waiting to hear back for a visit to give me an estimate to sand my front porch, I decided to try to sand it myself (profoundly bad idea!). Bogdan stopped by at our agreed upon time to give me an estimate and saw me struggling with a rented floor sander. He said that I'd never have good results with that tool, and immediately got out his own gear, on his own time, to sand my porch floor 'the right way'!' Cut to the chase and my front porch floor looked like a tabletop when he was done. Since we didn't yet have an agreed upon price, Bogdan said all he would charge was for me to buy him lunch! I brought home a big lunch from Chipotle and did pay him for his time. Not enough good things to say! read more

He went the extra mile by 1) removing old linoleum/underlayment where we did not expect it; 2) Removing the banister in order to get the entire stair tread; and 3) making the transitions seamless. We had a water damage and needed the wood flooring replaced in the middle of our foyer and closet. The owner and his son were quick to respond, provide a very fair estimate and started the job within a week. They did an excellent job in replacing and matching the wood grain. Unlike many contractors they were very careful with our furniture that needed to be moved and cleaned up when the job was complete. They refinished the entire floor and they are beautiful. Bogdan & his son did an amazing job refinishing the floors in our 1920's bungalow. The previous owners did a DIY job on the existing main floor living area floors but left two rooms carpeted .... it was a lot of sanding to get the 90+ year old flooring to match but Bogdan delivered as promised. BD Floors sanded the existing floors, replaced damaged areas where needed and refinished all the floors at the same time with an excellent end result. There were also two bay window seats that were badly water stained and he replaced the wood seat on both windows and matched the stain perfectly and reinstalled the wood window trim like a true pro !
