this is the best place to rent bikes on the island! they are maintenanced extremely well. after visiting most of the stores on the island, beach authority arguably has the best prices in the area. the employees are also very helpful, and are very efficient at finding items throughout the store!! 12/10 recommend. read more

We rent every year in Ortley and always ride bikes while at the beach. This year we needed 9 bikes for 2 weeks and Beach Authority was able to accommodate us. The bikes were new and all beach cruisers. We even called ahead for them and they were put aside for us. BA staff very nice and pleasant to deal with. Rented two bikes for a week. The day we were to return the bikes we discovered we were charged for theee. Owner would not refund us the money for the we did not rent. Told us that it was our fault we did not check before the rental was up. This is down right thievery. very ignorant women too. i bought a beach buggy from this store and used it one time and they said they will not return it because I used it. It was very hard to push on the sand so I I want to return it . I never had this problem before .But I will never recommend this store. I paid $ 148 .26 It was expensive , but i figured it would be good , but it was awful , They should have told me that it would be hard to push on the sand. very very disappointed. Went here to rent 2 bikes with my mom. From the moment we walked in, the staff was rude and almost talked over us instead of to us. We were asking about pricing and who I'm assuming was the manager came over and had a nasty attitude. She was rude and short and barely answered our questions. At the end, she was whispering under her breath about my mom and myself so then we decided to leave. Do not give them your business!! There is a much better and cheaper bike rental down in Seaside that is 8 minutes away! read more

The bike rentals are nonsensically expensive (20$ extra for a bike basket on a week-long rental)-- and not even in good repair! Rented two bikes last week, each with a basket, and had to bring both bikes back several times over the course of a week for various repairs (flat tire, loose basket, and rusted/loose chain). The time you spend driving these bikes back and forth from the shop isn't worth the rental. The owner didn't/wouldn't talk to me directly, but rather communicated to me through kids/seasonal workers who weren't capable of helping me resolve the poor condition of the bikes. One of the college kids told me she'd make a note of the bike issues I reported on my receipt but never did. Really terrible experience. Do not go here. read more

6/10/20 I made a purchase in this store totaling approx $130. One of the purchases was a Intex blow up pool. There were 3 in the store. 2 were prices at 69.99, and 1 was 59.99. I told the young, and very sweet girl working that I would take the 59.99 one and she agreed she would also. We chatted at how I was trying to support the local shops that were open as I recently returned to full salary after weeks of taking a cut in pay because of CoVid19. immediately after making my purchase I went to Rite Aid, which is maybe 2 blocks away. While there I saw the exact same pool for $29.99. I took my receipt out to return to Beach Authority and return the pool they charged me twice as much for, and realized the receipt said NO RETURNS. I immediately called the store and explained my situation only to be told there were no returns at all because of CoVid19. I explained I had just been there and it was an UNOPENED BOX for a pool. The young man who answered the phone said he would check with his boss and return the call. To his credit he did return my call and stated that his boss wouldn't allow the return. I asked for them to match the price or offer some sort of discount as it was literally DOUBLE THE PRICE as the store 2 blocks away, and the purchase was made less than 15 minutes prior. At that point I asked for a call back from the manager or owner and we hung up. I have not received a call back yet. I think it is terrible practice to price gauge when people are struggling to make ends meet, and actually supporting their small business. I am very disappointed in this establishment and I will no longer be a patron. Sad to feel taken advantage of, especially in what has been a difficult start of the year for so many. (They allow you to shop INSIDE their store and try on clothing, yet will bot accept a return of an UNOPENED pool.) read more

I got a flat tire on my bike while on my lunch break and needed the tube replaced. I dropped it off at beach authority because it's down the road from the beach I work at. The kid working there said he could fix it sometime later. I picked it up the next day and started riding it and my tire popped again. I walked it a mile back and went back into the store. I started talking to the owner, who cut me off and started yelling at me. Declaring it was too hot and that's why it popped. I said no it wasn't and she barked that I ran something over. And again I said how I didn't. She didn't bother listening to me because she was too busy ranting at me. She was so aggressive and nasty I was backing up to get out of the store as she was spouting at me. She followed me out of the store yelling and I took my bike and walked away to get away from her. I would never support her business or send anyone there. I still new a new tube for my tire and I will get it and fix it myself. read more

Rip off. Purchased an Intel swimming pool for $60 and a beach chair for $79.99. Less than 10 minutes later while in Rite Aid, the exact same pool was on sale for $30 and the chair was $56.99. Immediately called Beach Authority to see if they would let me return my items or honor Rite Aid's price. They would not. I think it's despicable that people are out of work for months and this is the way they operate read more

I'm only giving this one star because I can't put in zero stars. First, this place is filled to the brim with STUFF. Beach Authority sells tchotchkes tourists would use while on vacation. Although the products are appropriate for the area, they are nothing special. The products are also of a poor quality and priced unnecessarily high. For example, the Panama Jack products they sell at Beach Authority are the same products sold at CVS, only CVS has them priced about $5 cheaper. The people here are trying to get your money no matter what. Beach Authority does sell bikes for rent and for sale - however, what they don't advertise is that they're selling the same bikes they also rent. Which means the buyer will not be purchasing a brand-new bike. Also, when you go to rent a bike they make a copy of your driver's license and credit card. These copies are not kept in a safe location and all the employees have access to your personal and credit card information. I asked the employee working there last summer to destroy my information after I was done renting the bike. This is a prime case for identity theft, in my opinion. Speaking of employees, it seems as though they've been trained horrendously. When was the last time someone wanted to shop with the workers breathing down his/her neck and watching his/her every move? The employees bombard you as soon as you walk in the place to buy a cheap t-shirt with some iron-on decal on it (also obnoxiously expensive). That is, if they speak English in the first place. One employee, Carla, has extremely broken English. She tried to sell me a beach chair despite me telling her numerous times I wasn't looking for one. It was incredibly frustrating and highly unprofessional. She pretty much lives in the Lavallette Beach Authority location- I would advise to go to the Seacrest location if you HAVE to go to this store. I don't trust the family who owns this store whatsoever. I overheard them call one of their own employees fat last year. In front of a customer? Really? My advice, if you so choose to enter this store? Tip the employees who helped you in person (if you're so inclined) so they actually get the money because I've seen the same money sit in the Tip Jar by the cash register, only to witness the owner take the money out to replenish the cash register. Or, better yet, don't go to Beach Authority at all. If you want good tourist-y stuff, go to Z-Line. If you want beach clothes and bathing suits, go to B&B or Martin's Casuals. They have better quality products, better variety, and you'll get the most bang for your buck. read more

I went there with my family today. An employee named Jake helped us with picking out shirts and toys for our kids. He was real nice and catering. They definitely have the best priced souvenir tops in Lavalette. They also have a huge enormous selection of prints for you to pick from to customize your shirt.
