Dr. Ramirez listened to my situation and with a couple of visits for readjustments she was able to get rid of my back and headaches.

She was prescribed Norco and Gabapentin to manage post-surgical pain, which left her in a weakened state, and she was discharged to a rehabilitation facility of our choosing. After touring several facilities from Providence's recommended list, we selected Beachside Post Acute. We chose Beachside because we needed a facility that specializes in both physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT). It's a cozy, thoughtfully designed property in a breezy part of Torrance, conveniently located near both Walgreens and CVS. The building appears to have been a converted motor lodge, with a single-level layout that wraps around a central outdoor courtyard. This design allows each room to have either a window or sliding glass door, providing natural light and fresh air--something we found especially valuable. The PT staff have access to a dedicated room with specialized equipment, and both the main corridor and courtyard are used for assisted therapy sessions. There's also a recreation room and dining area where patients can enjoy meals outside their rooms, offering a welcome change of scenery. The kitchen serves nutritious, genuinely tasty meals--I can personally attest to that. What truly sets Beachside apart is the staff. They are compassionate, attentive, and clearly take pride in their work. To those who may read this--Susan, Marisol, Julius, Eva, Kimberly, Bryan, Alyssa, and everyone else--thank you. You made a difficult experience far more manageable, and we are deeply grateful.

Sunnyside Nursing Center - And I thought I was lost...I promise.. This made it worse

However, my experiences with the nurses at the 200 station have been extremely disappointing. During multiple visits, I felt as though my questions were an inconvenience. The staff at that desk were not approachable or helpful, and their demeanor came across as "why are you bothering me?" I initially thought it might have just been a one-time interaction, but unfortunately, it happened more than once. When I went to other nursing stations, the staff were polite and willing to assist, which made the contrast even more noticeable. I understand that many facilities are understaffed and that healthcare workers are under a lot of pressure. I can be patient and understanding if someone is busy or brief. What was upsetting, however, was the dismissive attitude. When I asked to speak with the head nurse about my dad's condition, I was met with visible eye-rolling (yes, even behind a mask it's noticeable) and told to "write your note on a blank paper," after which the nurse looked away as if my concern wasn't important. On another occasion, I asked for help opening the family room, which was supposed to be open at 8:00 a.m. It was already 30 minutes past, and this was the second time I had asked. The only response I received was, "Well, it should be open," followed by being ignored. There was no offer to check on it or find someone who could help. Bringing a loved one to a facility like this is already emotionally difficult. A little kindness and basic courtesy go a long way. I hope this feedback encourages management to address the attitude and approach of the nursing staff at the 200 station. It would make a meaningful difference for families who are already going through a challenging time.

My wife lives in the second-floor Haven - advanced Alzheimer's - community. We have yet to meet a staff member who is not competent and courteous and caring. My wife has reached the point where she has become wheelchair bound. The staff quickly assembled the chair I bought for her. There were difficulties in doing so, but they persisted instead of letting responsibility fall back on me. I greatly appreciate what they did. I am not the least bit mechanically inclined; I have trouble setting my watch. More importantly, they trained her in wheelchair use and safety, always patient, encouraging, and friendly. In my own case, I was recently informed that a room will become available in early April that will be substantially less expensive than the one I now occupy, and I will move into it then. My point is that the Kensington realizes how expensive memory care and assisted living can be and strives to ease the financial burden on its residents whenever the opportunity presents itself. I am also compelled to mention the first-class medical monitoring and care that followed my return to the Kensington after two weeks in the hospital recovering from colon cancer surgery. The Kensington's quality is self-evident. I regularly meet new residents whose families had originally placed them in a different local facility and then later decided to move them here. If you have a loved one who needs residential care, I cannot strongly enough recommend the Kensington. Gary Hartzell

It is so beautiful and high-quality in what it offers in terms of restaurant options, beautiful gardens, lovely rooms with high ceilings, impeccable furnishings, and cleanliness. And the people are so attentive and kind that I'm assuming the care is excellent. Tiffany was kind enough to give us two full tours, and the second time sent me off with a sweet bottle of wine. In appearance and ambience, it compares to a five star hotel, which provides live music, art classes and a small library, to boot! If it does ever happen that one of us needs extended care, this place would be our top choice.
