I believe this place is closing down and that's sad. Great movie place close to the beach. Clean and comfortable chairs.

I've been to this theater a few times over the years, but it's NEVER been a favorite. It actually completely closed for quite some time during COVID. My most recent visit was for the opening of Mission Impossible. It was impromptu, so tickets were not purchased in advance. Service was friendly up front and you chose your seats. After ticketing you can move to their bar and preorder your food and drinks to be brought to you. Or if running early hang out and have a drink. My visit was early afternoon and it was slow. The staff at the bar sad hello as I passed. From my perspective they reopened and did nothing with regards to needed renovations. Nothing major, but paint is peeling off doors etc. Also upon entering the theater it had a heavy musty smell. My server popped in and was great! Drink and popcorn ordered and came back in record speed. You pay upfront and no add service is provided. However you are always welcome to get yourself. The medium drink will get you through a movie. The small popcorn is likely a good share, but may need the medium. The seats were comfortable, just not the higher upgraded recliners that can be found in the area. Upon exiting I found the Men's room clean with proper supplies. Great flick and absolutely recommend, just not so sure the movie house. The service a 5, the concessions a 4. But the house itself falls short of my expectations for a full price theater 2. The location a 4. Seems a 3.5 fits and rounding down. read more

I saw Inside Out 2 with my cousin. To my surprise, the theater looked pretty packed based on the parking lot! My cousin and I arrived about 10-15 minutes before our movie started, which was good because once the previews start, you couldn't order any food or drinks . If you want to order anything else, you must leave the movie theater and go to the bar to order. I understand they don't want to walk in front of/interrupt moviegoers, but isn't that kind of expected at a combination restaurant/movie theater?? Anyway, I ordered the loaded BBQ fries as my meal. They were delicious and the portions were really large. However, the tables were really small and you had to split them between two people. We couldn't fit all of the food we got on one table. Fortunately, there was no one using the other table next to us. Also, the tables were a bit far away from my seat, so I had to sit on the edge of my seat to eat my meal. I'm not opposed to going back, but it isn't my first choice for a dine-in movie theater. read more

Idk what some of these negative reviews are talking about. Went here to watch the new Bob Dylan movie. First time checking this theater out, as we definitely wanted to find a local theater to check out that served some food and drinks. Theater itself is clean and employees are friendly. You can order food and drinks to be brought to you inside the theater which is really nice. Movie picture quality and sound in here is great as well. We had zero complaints about this movie theater, and we will be back for sure. read more

This was an alright theater. We stopped by the bar on our way in to enjoy a refreshing adult beverage. My husband ordered a 22 oz beer. I ordered a 16oz Strawberry cider. It was delicious! You can have your drinks at the bar. Or have them delivered to your seat. The auditorium had small tables for your food and cup holders. They don't offer reclining seats so I had to use my husband leg as mine lol. We went to see Saw X. Which was a good movie. I'm sure it will be another. Didn't have any problems with the picture or sound system. Staff seemed friendly which shows they enjoy their job. Over-all 3.5 ratings. Would definitely return. read more

The theaters and bar area here were much nicer than expected. They also had large bathrooms with a ton of stalls, like probably 20 so that was great. We saw Batman here last weekend and, after browsing the menu, decided not to eat here. It's mostly chicken tenders and fried foods. They used to have a hummus platter and a few veggie-friendly items but I don't see those anymore. They do have like two salads which you can add chicken too (tenders not grilled) but it's not very healthy at all so we ate somewhere else and then came for the meal. Last call is right before and while the advertisements are running and the staff were bustling around with food trays and items. Since we didn't eat and show up a half hour early like others, our seats and table had a tray waiting while they dropped off food - right when we walked in the server knocked it over and spilled all the food right in front of our seats (ketchup included). They quickly got it all up minus a bit more and my fiancee had to run and get someone from the lobby to come with a towel to get up the rest of the ketchup so he didn't smell it the entire movie (three long hours). They came in and easily cleaned it up right away. Very good and polite service. Super impressed. Overall, not a bad theater but the food wasn't to my taste and the seats don't recline (so you can eat a table) so I'll stick to the Strawbridge theater but it was nicer than I remembered from years ago and offers a different experience. read more

To start, coming up to this theater, like someone else mentioned, it does look abandoned and old. Doesn't look like a theatre at all. Entering, you walk immediately into a bar, the set up is odd, if you keep walking in there's a sign that literally says to turn around to buy the tickets as they are facing into the lobby where front doors would be. Something to note - the chairs DO NOT recline, the theater regardless of actual theater room location- STINKS!!! It smells like body odor, off brand cleaner and mold/mildew. You have until the commercials start to order food/drinks- you cannot order during the film. You also have to pay before they bring your food- they won't bring it until you pay which is so odd. It's humid in the theater, no need for a blanket or typical theater attire. The arms of the chairs are sticky and really hard to pull down to use. The chairs are like old school theater seats but they are leather not velvet which was a plus. Another plus is it gets completely dark in the theater, I feel like theaters are getting brighter and brighter these days. Another plus would be the fries! They are SO good, crispy, hot and they offer old bay seasoning for them- they were very good. Weird thing with the food would be you cannot add cheese to a veggie burger? Not for an up charge or free- they refuse to pick up a slice of cheese and put it on your burger which as a veggie burger, is already plain (no seasoning or condiments- only comes with lettuce, tomato and onion) the bottom bun was soggy- unsure why, so I didn't eat it all. Overall, I won't be coming back or suggesting to anyone to come. I only tried it because my favourite theatre, cinema cafe, was full for this movie- now it makes sense why a brand new movie was EMPTY on a Friday night on opening weekend. read more

Upon entering the parking lot, you would not have known that an active movie theater exists; it looks abandoned. Inside, the movie theater has a gross, humid feel and is incredibly outdated. My food took over thirty minutes to come out, and I still had to go to the bar to ask about my missing item. My husband said it is very dusty, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. The food was too salty and not worth it, it would be better just to serve popcorn and candy only, for the experience it was below standard. The servers were pleasant and professional. read more

I'm not really a big movie-goer in the streaming age. I can buy a movie ticket for the same price as a one-month subscription to Netflix/HOB, etc. It just feels like a better value when you're living on a budget. However, it is a fun treat to see something in theaters from time to time, especially when the company is good. We got there early for our showing which allowed us to have a drink at the bar before the show. Prices were on the higher end, but still, what you would expect at The Oceanfront, I got one of the "Star Wars" specialty cocktails - Kylo Ren ($8.50). It was basically an adult cherry coke, and it was delicious. We were able to place our order at the bar. The food was then delivered to our seats in the theater. I always love when theaters have "assigned" seating to make things fair and stress-free. Before I move on to the food and theater experience, I do have to say the bathrooms were pretty gross. There was standing water on the floor, splatter stains on the stall walls. The whole bathroom needed a good wipedown- at least on the women's side. I had to go again after the movie but opted to hold it until I got home. Back to the rest of the experience now that I have gotten that part out of the way... They suggest arriving 30 minutes before your show to place your order. Food came out quickly, and they had a team of servers assisting our theater. Any food or beverage orders placed after the showing starts need to be placed in the lobby, but I think they will still bring it to your table. Seating tip- make sure you are sharing a table with the person you are going with; the tables are indicated on the seating map, so it is easy. Just something to keep in mind. We tried one of the burgers, but I don't think either of us would order it again. It was "just okay." Frozen patty, made much better by chipotle mayo. The fries were better than the burger. We also shared a pepperoni pizza- this was actually really good. The pizza would have been plenty for us to share without the burger, but I was happy to take the leftovers to finish later. The cheese was great, I even enjoyed the crust. You got a nice "cheese pull" from it too. Drool. Next time I'll definitely stick to trying other pizzas and skip the burger section. The theater was a little louder than most movie experiences from people using silverware and a few forgetting it was a movie and being a little chattier than necessary in a theater environment. Not a huge bother, just something worth mentioning, so it doesn't get on your nerves during your visit. Overall, I was impressed with Beach Cinema and will definitely return next time I want to catch dinner and a movie. read more

Fun place for date night or movie night with friends and family. Comfortable seating with tables so you can order food and drinks while you're watching your favorite movie. This theater is easy to get to, runs a good line up of movies even though it's not that big. The menu offered has a wide range of food items from salads, pizzas, burgers, and even seared tuna bites. My family ordered the burgers, salads and I had the tuna bites. No complaints and the portions are perfect. Getting tickets is easy, Fandango is what we use and you just walk in, print them off and you're on your way to a good movie and good food! Honestly, when I first tried this place I wasn't holding my breath on the food and how bad it would be...lets face it, most movie houses that serve food have a menu that seems like it came from the frozen food section of a grocery. This place blew my mind on how good the burgers and onion rings were and the food in general has been tasty and we'll prepared. I am giving 5 stars because of the customer service. I went there last night to see I Wanna Dance With Somebody. I originally bought the tickets for the week it came out and then got sick. I emailed them and they were so helpful and accommodating and let me use the tickets at a later date. Thank you so much Jackie. I have been there 3 times this year and not to any other theaters. What I am saying is I am normally not a movie goer so I don't have much reference and I know there are probably nicer theaters out there but I like this one. Customer service has always been friendly. The bartender last night was awesome too and the guy that checked us in. Popcorn was good and the beer was cold. We did not get food so I cannot comment on that. I would go back if I wanted to see a movie. read more

I love movie theaters with dinner and drinks. But this place does not really get the concept. Pros- the seats are comfortable and they offer matinee movie times with $10 tickets, multiple movies and all first run. The fries are pretty good. Cons- you can't order food or drinks from the theater during the movie. So last call is literally during the previews. And the food is super limited, basically a terrible rubber burger, cheesy pizza (not in a good way), or chicken tenders. None of the staff wore masks. The tables are super awkward to eat at from movie theater seats, they were clearly added as an afterthought to a normal theater. The food was overpriced for the quality. It's a good concept but this place needs a lot of work. It seems from the reviews that it's the new owners who limited the menu, ruined the burgers, etc. I definitely don't blame them for the really bad movie we saw lol read more

This was my first here. I'm use to going to Cinema Cafe or the old CineBistro. The location itself is probably what I liked the most. It's really kind of tucked off from the busyness of the area. When you walk in, you're immediately met with a bar and little waiting area. The theaters themselves aren't too much to speak about but the customer service makes up for it. Our waiter was attentive and courteous. The food was decent and the drinks were good. Overall we had a great first impression and will likely revisit. Definitely the spot to come to if you want to get away from the crowd and enjoy a movie with food. read more

We are on vacation in VA Beach and wanted something a little different to do, so we decided to go for dinner and a movie. The movie price wasn't bad, they also offer discounts for military and students. We weren't really sure what we were supposed to do, there was no one at the bar, so we just went into the theater. But it seemed most people ordered and paid at the bar, and we were maybe the only ones who ordered from the server. I'm not sure if there was a standard. The drink I wanted was only available at the bar, so I had to go out there and track someone down in order to get my drink. They don't currently have a license to sell alcohol (BOO!) but anticipate having it soon. The seats were comfortable. The tables are not that large but if you put your drink in the cup holder it's manageable. Food comes after the movie is on, so it's tough to see what you have and what you're eating. I had to feel around to figure out that I didn't get my onion rings and then you're trying to tell the server without disturbing the people around you. I've been to other places like this before and I thought it more typical to have the food out to the tables prior to the movie starting. Overall, it was a fun experience. I just wish they explained a little more about what we should be doing and had enough staff to cover the bar if we were supposed to order stuff there. read more

I have frequented Beach Cinema Alehouse for a few years now, even prior to Covid, and have always loved it. Once they reopened we returned, hoping to enjoy the same small movie theater comfort we had previously experienced. However, tonight was the last time we will be going. On our last several visits, the bar staff has been unacceptably curt and seemingly intentionally slow. Not to even mention the screen. The Batman, first day the movie is out, we get a screen with a glaring blue line and blue mist across the entirety of the screen. If you didn't know, The Batman relies on dark, often rain-filled scenes to present the mood of the story appropriately. Every single scene of the movie was ruined by these blue lines. We considered getting up, almost immediately, and leaving, but decided to get our money's worth and not return. We have always loved this place and we are sad that we can no longer rely on it for a fun movie experience. I'd love to see some love and care put into this location to bring it back to its former glory. read more

Recently went to see Guardians of the Galaxy. Bought our tickets online. When checking in before show time we were informed that they were not able to serve food, alcohol or concessions due to staffing issues. "WHAT?" I thought. Did I miss that notice online? Deciding to stay and watch the movie (minus all the things that make a movie theater fun) I double-checked their website for a notice about no dinning or concessions privileges. No notice. Nothing. From this experience forward I will be calling before booking movie tickets to see if I can have popcorn with my movie. read more

The service was awful and the workers were very rude and were giving attitude when we walked in. Ten minutes before the movie ended a worker came in and was being extremely rude telling us to shut up or she was going to kick us out. Saying there were many people complaining about us when we didn't do anything. Even after the fact and we were trying to talk to someone about it they were still being rude and trying to tell us we were being loud and disruptive when we weren't and they caused a bigger disruption coming in there. read more

The experience is varied, movie vs food vs seating. I can't rate the BCA on the movie but I did enjoy it and the view and sound quality were good. The seating is OK as long as you are not eating. This is where this place fails. The tables are much too small to hold enough for two. I was putting some stuff on the floor. The seats are not designed to have a meal in, maybe to watch the movie but not both. The food was horrible, not the worst but tied for last place. I had the BBQ which was very fatty, hunks of fat and meat in a soggy bun. Way to many Fries that over loaded the plate making the effort to eat the sandwich in an uncomfortable chair with a small table a horrible experience. Threw most of it away. Day date with myself. Went to see American Fiction here and I really enjoyed it. The people are friendly and welcoming. It's very clean and spacious. The theater is typical of a food cinema. Tables are tall enough for the food. The chairs don't recline (I say another review complaining about that) but I don't think it's needed. The seats are at the perfect height for great movie watching. I ordered popcorn, pizza and a drink. You'd have thought it was my first time eating popcorn. It was really good and fresh. You know sometimes movie popcorn has a slick/plastic feel/taste to it. Not this - perfectly buttered and salted. For drinks I ordered the Sunburnt Sailor, it was ok. Probably should have gone with the Tipsy Green Tea. I'll try that next time. Ordered the margherita pizza. It was cheesy and tasty. If you want to go to a movie and have a nice intimate experience, this is the place. Definitely recommend read more

One of the best dine in movie theaters out in Hampton Roads I have been to! It was very clean from outside to inside the movie theater. Staff was super friendly and service was great! Hubs and I were wanting to go to a cinema cafe or cinema bistro for date night and Beach Cinema Alehouse did not disappoint. The full bar lured us in. We bought our tickets online and I loved we could pick our seats! The food was delicious. We had a pizza(which looked like it wasn't much, but it was more than enough for 2 adults!) and BBQ fries. Food was more than we expected and drinks from the full bar was well worth it. If you're looking for a date night to the movies, you won't be disappointed here. Prices for weekends were $11 for adults/person. Well worth it. Service was spectacular. Definitely will be worth the drive through traffic for us. read more

We saw Batman and had a great time! Food gets delivered to you. They give you a little led candle to take into the theater as the service signal and it works out well. After about 20 min seemed like service staff had completed deliveries and the movie continued smoothly. read more

My friend and I went tonight and it was a disappointment for sure. *my chair was sticky on the arm rests, both sides. *the table is ridiculous, you have to share it with your neighbor *when I asked if I could move to the other side of my friend, the server hesitated and said " it shouldn't be a problem" sir, there are a total of 6 people here for this movie. *he took our order, ran the credit card , brought the card back and we never saw him again. Someone else brought our food and I had to go get boxes for us and the people behind us. We go to walk out and there he is sitting at the bar. 12.00 for the ticket 14.00 for the pizza 8.50 for my drink 6.50 for popcorn Plus the tip. And the seats were uncomfortable. Quality and Service at this place is terrible. Bar staff are very good but the incompetent teen age food runners and new in theater wait staff suck. Food is just so so.. Food came to table with a few packaged condiments piled on top of the food.. Very unsanitary ! Also we ask for a knife 3 three times and were blatantly ignored. Multiple requests for additional condiments were also blatantly ignored. Outrageous disregard is totally disrespectful and should result in employment termination read more
