Ryan Powers has serviced my koi pond for over 5 years. He came highly recommended from the previous owners, from who I purchased the home in Anahiem Hills. During this time the pond has been subjected to leaks, contamination (due to the Santa Ana winds), and disease within the koi community. All these negative factors come with owning a high maintenance koi pond, with a large population of koi (20 plus fish). Ryan has a vast knowledge of marine life, through his formal education and experience at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. He's educated me on the culture, the needs, and do's and don't's as it relates to maintaining the pond and caring for mature koi that are over 30 years old. He has saved my fish from dying when disease struck and when all the fish had to be removed, relocated (fostering pool), to repair a leak caused by roots in neighboring plants. Aside from being my ponds curator, he has become a great friend. His passion for caring for my koi pond and it's koi, is just part of who he is. He was there for me and my adult daughter, when we lost my wife due to her bout with cancer right before the pandemic. Other companies quoted me 5-10 times as much to clean my pond and get it operational and were not even as pleasant and friendly as this company. Don't even read the one bad review. The fist time ryan came over was just to give an estimate on how to get my homemade koi pond properly filtered. At that time he saved my fish by completely changing out the water and cleaning out and treating the refill. Fish were pleased. He came back with a quote for a filtration system and some landscaping (which he said he doesn't normally do). Quote was beyond reasonable. He set an appointment, showed up on time, worked through the killer heat conditions that we had (to the verge of passing out) and has even come back for some minor tweaks. In addition to leaving our murky pond crystal clear, he also put in some lights, rocks and plants. He is completely reliable, personable, and take a huge amount of pride in his work. Thank you Yelpers for helping me find Ryan. I purchased a house unbeknownst to me my pond had koi fish- not until the day I moved in. The water was so murky I didn't know there were a dozen koi fish in the pond- yea gross. Anyhow I contacted Ryan and he came out the same day and gave me a few options. I ended up having him fully drain and clean the pond, take out all the brick and stones that were obstructing the fish, put in new plants and replace the fountain. You can tell he is extremely knowledgeable and gave me good tips on how to keep my fish healthy etc. Highly recommend!! Agree with other reviewers he is also very chill, not pushy and fairly priced. You cannot get better than Ryan at Beach City Aquatics. I left my former pond company OC Pond and Fountain Service (see my review - horrible) and was absolutely blessed to find Ryan. From day 1 he was incredibly responsive, patient, talented, reliable, professional, personable and a true expert. Here is an example of his genuine love for the fish and ponds he cares for: I was out of town and had breaker issues causing many fish to die. I texted Ryan who came out and helped save what he could. The ones who needed emergency attention he took to his own home hospital tank and rehabilitated. He returned them as they were healthy and just returned one last week after caring for him/her for a year! My pond has never been consistently clear and gorgeous like it is now. He is meticulous with cleaning, including vacuuming the pond routinely and cleaning every layer of every filter. He's not asking me to purchase crap I don't need and he leaves little reminder notes when I feed the little guys a "tad" too much. He is very reasonably priced and never misses a beat. I trust him more than anyone I've ever worked with for anything in or around my home. If my fish could have a godfather I would elect him :-) You can't go wrong. And I am OCD about my fish. I can't say enough positive things about Ryan. I didn't know a thing about owning a pond when I bought my house. Over the last few years Ryan has been my go-to guy when it comes to taking care of our water feature. Since first meeting Ryan, he's helped us with a number of issues that have come up: a pump failure, out of control algae growth, a broken UV light and a loss of water pressure...so basically everything. One of my water features pump went out and although I DID NOT GET A RECOMMENDATION from my neighbor, I asked RYAN POWERS to come over when he was done and see if he could do anything; he told me not to worry and he would provide pricing and scheduling shortly; he did say something odd that should have warned me: "my wife and I have as much business as we want". I thought that was odd; I was under a time crunch as I was preparing for a garden tour. RYAN POWERS never called me back for status or even to tell me that he couldn't do the job. When I inquired of him him on his next service next door, he didn't say anything but just shrugged his shoulders. There is enough negativism in this world and I hesitated to do this review, but apparently something has changed and appears the level of service from this firm may have been mitigated. If one is to get an estimate from this individual, I would suggest getting a competitive estimate at the same time just in the case of the same non performance that I experienced. read more

Quality work at a fair price done extremely well. Lots and lots of experience worked at the Long Beach aquarium for years and years doing pumps and tanks and cleanings in fact he was in the tropical section of the Long Beach aquarium which really really measures and mirrors the type of cleanings and work that he's doing now. He's very polite and courteous and he actually listens to you to do what you want and I've seen it other people trying to fill Agenda. We found Ryan at Beach Cities Aquatics online when the pump for our koi pond went out 2 years ago. He was a lifesaver then and installed a new pump for us. Unfortunately, the pump failed on 7/4. I texted Ryan to let him know the pump would not start. Since it was a holiday, I did not expect him to answer that day but he actually did. Since it was still under warranty, he contacted the store he purchased the pump from and they called the manufacturer. Since the pump needed to be returned to the manufacturer, Ryan stopped by the house, picked up the pump and sent it off to the manufacturer himself. A week or so later, the manufacturer sent back the repaired pump. Ryan stopped by again and reinstalled the fixed pump. So grateful that he handled all of this for us!!! He is excellent at communication and always lets us know when he will be stopping by. Excellent customer service!!! Plus I also found out he does pond maintenance so we no longer need to do this ourselves. We can put it in the hands of a professional for a very reasonable price.
