I have now enjoyed lunch with the kids a few times now and have really fallen in love with it's beauty. The description has this as a Dog Park, but it is not. However, it is a dog friendly park if the pooch is on a leash. The park is located directly behind ODU's Foreman Field and among small 1950-1960's residential homes. The current space has been utilized for a recreation area for a number of years, but the park as it exist today with it's playground equipment is around 10 years old. The entire area is shady which is a parents dream. Parking is off street only. I consider the area to be completely safe. The grounds are enclosed with an attractive black aluminum fence. A short run to the back is a tall wooden privacy fence. There are two gates with both having child safety locks. Bottom line is this is a secure play are for small children with great visual lines of sight to watch the kids enjoying themselves. I found the park spotless and grassy portion well manicured on my times visiting. There is a single trash can which is maintained by the city of Norfolk. Let's talk equipment, because it's cool. The central playground is a pirate ship. The second one has a slide and curly pole. There are also two sets of swings and one is for a toddler. I would consider the top age range for the playground to be 10-12. The ground cover around the equipment is mulch. A huge shaded grassy area for recreation is to the back. I consider this one of the best things about the park. There are some limitations to the park that anyone visiting should be aware of. However, keep in perspective this is a small neighborhood park. Only a few benches and a few tables are available to families. There is enough room for a small shelter and grills, but they do not have them. Also absent is a restroom facility and water fountain. So don't forget to bring something for the little ones to keep hydrated. I usually would not give a park a four without upgraded items like shelter and restrooms. This property is in another class with it being a neighborhood park in my opinion. I am sure this property is such a treasure for the neighborhood. I just could not help but fall in love with Bluestone Park when I first laid eyes on it and I think you will agree.

A hidden gem set off Birdneck Rd with some beautiful water views from the clay courts. Very cool, laid back, family oriented atmosphere. Staff has been incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Matt got us started and signed up for membership and made us feel like family from day one. We have enjoyed their daily feeding frenzy's, Saturday evening socials and numerous skills clinics that they offer. My daughter attended the week long kids camp over the summer led by the pro Dan who does a phenomenal job. Owner Jeff and his son Trevor have also been instrumental in creating a very fun and welcoming atmosphere. So glad that we joined this club - has made our summer! Looking forward to some cooler weather and enjoying some fall tennis here. Can't recommend this spot enough - do yourself a favor and check it out, you won't be disappointed!

The workers are prepared to keep the field in shape in any weather. Dogs allowed! It's free admission to watch your kid's game and there's a parking lot, overflow across the street and the rec center. Also, there's bathrooms in the back of the food stand. They have the best food stand with tasty treats while you watch the game (or for your kids). Just a little tip, bring sunscreen bc the stands are not covered.

I dropped in for a boxing class brought a few friends usually Thursday nights we meet up to have a few drinks and eat until the next Thursday .. Not anymore we meet up to box on Thursdays now and I re dedicated myself to going back with so many old faces and a lot of new faces .. Tonite I didn't have child care for my granddaughter but my bootcamp family messaged me because another little girl would be there they didn't want me to miss class i am so humbled by this .. I can't say enough positive things about this class it pushes me and it also helps me Remember how I once was and how I know I can be again it works I lost 2lbs this week not much but you know what I will take it and I will try for 3 next week I highly recommend this class it's the best thing I have done for myself again .. Pembroke Meadows Recreation Center offers a Members Only 25 meters outdoor swimming pool that is…read morenicely maintained. There are additional amenities, such as basketball courts, kiddie pool.& much more. The Pool is open seasonally and is closed on Tuesdays. Built in 1970 the non profit is run by a Pool Board and Volunteers. Neighborhood & Member events are varied and plentiful. Memberships are available at the Individual, Couple and Family Rates with Guest Passes available for purchase by members. There is a Senior Discount. The location is in the Pembroke Meadows neighborhood off Independence Boulevard. Before the Bayside Recreation Center was built it was the swimming choice for many residents of Bayside with children and teens. Parents spent hours t by the pool even though it was well staffed with lifeguards. It was a great place for kids to swim and socialize with their friends. It was fun for parents to meet and socialize on the pool deck, Pembroke Meadows Marlins is the swim team for the Center. It's a great way for kids to learn swim competition and develop their skills in the different strokes. Swim meets were held early in the morning on weekends. The pool is closed during this time. My son developed excellent swim skills during the time period when he was young and we were members. The early morning swim meet times were tough though for this night owl. :) It's hard for many Bayside residents to envision a time before the Bayside Rec Center was built. Pembroke Meadows filled the swimming void during that time. Last year I was watching my son and grandson swimming from the bleachers at the pool. I met a man who was waiting for his Grandson to finish swim team practice. I told him my son had been on the swim team at Pembroke Meadows. He said that his was also. Time had passed. Generations had changed. The kids that swam at Pembroke Meadows then now have children of their own. Thank you Pembroke Meadows Pool & Swim Team for the years of fun. A special thanks go out for the skills my son learned on the swim team. He has passed them on to his son.
