Only been here a couple times to support my love and his soccer team (league). My first time coming, it was a little hard finding the building and going to the correct entrance but there is definitely an abundance of parking. Upon entering there's a help desk and even a screen that lets you know game information, if looking. Fields are one the left and courts on the right. Haven't tried them, but there's a little food court area and vending machines located around the building. There's small couches against the wall, but there's also bleachers and tables/chairs for game viewing! Also like how they have TVs with other sports related games. Seems like a huge place that does it all and then some!

This an impressive multi-purpose recreation and league sports epicenter for all ages with plenty of free parking. On the left of the main entrance desk lies 4 indoor turf fields for soccer, flag football or nerf battles; to the right are 8 simultaneous regulation volleyball games or 4 full court basketball games or any combination of the two. There are metal bleachers for spectators on every court. Restrooms are in the middle of the building; a CHKD athletic trainer sits behind that section followed by a snack bar and seating area with 3 catv projection screens. Upstairs, there's a pretty cool kids play area with slides, another turf field, restrooms and stadium views of the entire facility. They even have outdoor sand courts. For us, refs have been hit and miss, not helped by 2 inoperable scoreboards, but acceptable for this level of play. While I lust over having a facility like this closer to home, there's a definite LACK OF SECURITY. Maybe they have cameras (?) but no visible force or even scrutiny upon people entering or exiting. This is of extreme concern especially considering the amount of children present.

I had no idea this was here. My little one was invited to a birthday party from a boy in his kindergarten class. We had no idea what to expect, but when we got here we were like "Wow, this place looks awesome!" There were soccer games going on, some kind of ping pong tournament going on on the other side. There was a large area of concessions selling all sorts of fun food and drinks. We had a party room downstairs, the party consisted of about 15 kids, we were all lead downstairs to a huge field where they had organized games and activities with their party organizer. When we were finished, we were led to the party room for pizza, cake, and ice cream. Great place to have a birthday party. Plenty of parking.

The seemingly impossible has happen to this great athletic building. It is being obviously neglected. After opening around 6-7 years ago and having hundreds and hundreds of kids use the facility it is flat out worn down. A crying shame since the owner of at least two other facilities like this is killing it with profits. Parking is awesome, no issues any time I have ever been there. It has been three years since I last attended an event. At that time I did not see the issues that I do now on the interior. My son attended an event over the weekend for Operation Smile. When coming in the door the young lady attending the desk asked if we needed help and did direct us which was fantastic. No debris in the lobby was also terrific. There are courts and field every where in this two story structure, so you do need to know where you are going. There is a food area in the center of the lower level. There is an arcade and party room on the second floor. There are also other multi purpose rooms for events last I heard weekend birthday parties were booked a year in advance. The best thing going for the facility is the fact the have so many fields under cover. So weather does not play a factor. Your in a climate controlled building. This alone should give it at least a 3 right? Well in my book NO! Although this was the aspect of facility I would give a 4, or 5 too! The areas of competition were great! There is a food court. During event times its mobbed and not cheap. I had chicken tenders and fries. Fries great, chicken over cooked. The staff person was great. They sell beer & wine which is a huge hit among parents that want to party while there kids play a match for hours. The lounge area even has big screen TV's. But is was dirty. Carpets worn, furniture worn and dirty. Debris was every where and I never saw anyone pick up. This is an obvious self bus, cans ever where. But people are pigs The spectator area has aluminum risers. Bring something to sit on or your ass will go numb. There was trash every where under them. Cans every where, again people can be pigs. Evidently no janitorial staff until they close. They do offer FREE WiFi and it worked great! Restrooms/locker rooms smelled, were dirty, had broken plumbing witnessed on one of the urinals and painted walls faded and nasty with buggers wiped all over them by the urinals. Just disgusting! There was a huge gap in the wall that needed caulk and repainted that was unsightly. I will not plan any event, or recommend them. Clean up your act and get this facility back on track. The owner is not reinvesting in what I understand to be his most lucrative field house. Since there are no negatives reviews in past year I assume things have recently took a turn for worse.

Also the concession stand is closed and there is only one small table set up with a single person selling hotdogs. That is totally not sufficient for the number of people who are here today. Looks like bad planning on the part of the city. Also, due to the rain the overflow parking lot on the grass is mostly mud and cars are having a hard time getting in and out.

There were giant craters in front of of every pitcher's mound. I witnessed a pitcher fall mid pitch because of one of the craters. The umpires had to take their personal waters and try to wet the mound area and fill in the crater so the game could continue. There was no one for three days grooming the fields. There was no rake to be found. The concession stand has not been open for years. That isn't the worst thing! On a sunny Sunday at 3:00, the park suddenly shortened the times of the semi final and championship games to drop dead times because they wanted to close at 5:15! The city didn't care how much it cost to be in this tournament. Renter beware! Virginia Beach is very difficult to deal with, and this facility unfortunately sucks! They don't maintain this complex. I live here, and I am telling you to book your tournament at Stoney Run, Williamsburg, Richmond, or anywhere else.

KRA offers youth sports such as tee ball, baseball, fast pitch softball, football, basketball and cheering. You can register online or in person when they hold sign-ups. This review is only for the tee ball program. Our son played tee ball with KRA in the Fall of 2010 and Spring of 2011. He had a different coach each time. Both were nice, patient guys and good with the kids, but the first coach was far superior to the second in that he wasn't soft spoken and could lead the team. Kids in the tee ball age group need a lot of firm direction. When my kid is on that field, whether it be practice or a game, coach is in charge. You do as coach says the first time he says it. It can still be fun, but if the whole team is sitting around playing in the dirt, no one is getting anything out of that. Either way, I give these guys a lot of credit for their patience. The kids received team hats and shirts that they were able to keep. The shirts were not personalized with their names. The parents buy their child's glove, pants, socks and cleats. We found little bat bags at Target for $10. The beginning of the season seemed disorganized. After sign ups it took an awful long time to find out when practice would start. I don't understand why practice start dates wouldn't be set ahead of time. I know each team practices at a different time and place, but I couldn't even get an answer to what week practice would start. Once practice did start, the seasons ran smoothly. The coaches were provided with practice equipment, including batting helmets. In the Fall season we traveled to different locations in the area to play, and home games were played at the fields by the Rec Center. The Spring season all games were played at the Rec Center. That was so much more convenient. Overall, our experience with the tee ball program was OK. I know it's run by volunteers, so it is what is is. I don't know how the other programs are run. We did football and basketball with West Kempsville Youth Athletics in 2011 and loved it, so we tried out tee ball with them this year. That review is coming next. I would say that the KRA Tee Ball program is better than the West Kempsville Tee Ball program, but I'm not a huge fan of either. Next year we are going to try out the Kempsville Pony Baseball league. KRA has a Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kempsville-Recreation-Association/ They should utilize it more.
