Poorly run. Poorly organized. Rude. I have never had an issue w an athletic program until stumbling upon this place.

The Virginia Beach Field House is a true hat trick. Expansive indoor space, friendly party hosts and an children's amusement space. My daughter recently attended a toddler birthday party here and as soon as we walked in she started running and did not stop! The indoor soccer field was not only stocked with an endless amount of balls to kick around but also featured several tunnels, obstacle courses, and even a parachute to keep the children entertained. The free play time was wonderful as the children really got the chance to move around and play imaginatively. We also had access to an indoor play space so it was like a bonus birthday party experience in one! After all of the fun and games we were led to a private party room for pizza and cake. The party hosts were very efficient serving the children and adults with ease. I'm not the sporty type but seeing all the fun the children had here made me wish there was a complex like this in the DC area that I could bring my daughter to. I hope that I have the chance to come back again! read more

Only been here a couple times to support my love and his soccer team (league). My first time coming, it was a little hard finding the building and going to the correct entrance but there is definitely an abundance of parking. Upon entering there's a help desk and even a screen that lets you know game information, if looking. Fields are one the left and courts on the right. Haven't tried them, but there's a little food court area and vending machines located around the building. There's small couches against the wall, but there's also bleachers and tables/chairs for game viewing! Also like how they have TVs with other sports related games. This an impressive multi-purpose recreation and league sports epicenter for all ages with plenty of free parking. On the left of the main entrance desk lies 4 indoor turf fields for soccer, flag football or nerf battles; to the right are 8 simultaneous regulation volleyball games or 4 full court basketball games or any combination of the two. There are metal bleachers for spectators on every court. Restrooms are in the middle of the building; a CHKD athletic trainer sits behind that section followed by a snack bar and seating area with 3 catv projection screens. Upstairs, there's a pretty cool kids play area with slides, another turf field, restrooms and stadium views of the entire facility. They even have outdoor sand courts. For us, refs have been hit and miss, not helped by 2 inoperable scoreboards, but acceptable for this level of play. While I lust over having a facility like this closer to home, there's a definite LACK OF SECURITY. Maybe they have cameras (?) but no visible force or even scrutiny upon people entering or exiting. This is of extreme concern especially considering the amount of children present. read more

I had no idea this was here. My little one was invited to a birthday party from a boy in his kindergarten class. We had no idea what to expect, but when we got here we were like "Wow, this place looks awesome!" There were soccer games going on, some kind of ping pong tournament going on on the other side. There was a large area of concessions selling all sorts of fun food and drinks. We had a party room downstairs, the party consisted of about 15 kids, we were all lead downstairs to a huge field where they had organized games and activities with their party organizer. When we were finished, we were led to the party room for pizza, cake, and ice cream. Great place to have a birthday party. Plenty of parking. read more

The seemingly impossible has happen to this great athletic building. It is being obviously neglected. After opening around 6-7 years ago and having hundreds and hundreds of kids use the facility it is flat out worn down. A crying shame since the owner of at least two other facilities like this is killing it with profits. Parking is awesome, no issues any time I have ever been there. It has been three years since I last attended an event. At that time I did not see the issues that I do now on the interior. My son attended an event over the weekend for Operation Smile. When coming in the door the young lady attending the desk asked if we needed help and did direct us which was fantastic. No debris in the lobby was also terrific. There are courts and field every where in this two story structure, so you do need to know where you are going. There is a food area in the center of the lower level. There is an arcade and party room on the second floor. There are also other multi purpose rooms for events last I heard weekend birthday parties were booked a year in advance. The best thing going for the facility is the fact the have so many fields under cover. So weather does not play a factor. Your in a climate controlled building. This alone should give it at least a 3 right? Well in my book NO! Although this was the aspect of facility I would give a 4, or 5 too! The areas of competition were great! There is a food court. During event times its mobbed and not cheap. I had chicken tenders and fries. Fries great, chicken over cooked. The staff person was great. They sell beer & wine which is a huge hit among parents that want to party while there kids play a match for hours. The lounge area even has big screen TV's. But is was dirty. Carpets worn, furniture worn and dirty. Debris was every where and I never saw anyone pick up. This is an obvious self bus, cans ever where. But people are pigs The spectator area has aluminum risers. Bring something to sit on or your ass will go numb. There was trash every where under them. Cans every where, again people can be pigs. Evidently no janitorial staff until they close. They do offer FREE WiFi and it worked great! Restrooms/locker rooms smelled, were dirty, had broken plumbing witnessed on one of the urinals and painted walls faded and nasty with buggers wiped all over them by the urinals. Just disgusting! There was a huge gap in the wall that needed caulk and repainted that was unsightly. I will not plan any event, or recommend them. Clean up your act and get this facility back on track. The owner is not reinvesting in what I understand to be his most lucrative field house. Since there are no negatives reviews in past year I assume things have recently took a turn for worse. read more

How have I never been to anything at the Field House?! I don't know. But it's awesome. I recently started playing volleyball here and I am loving it! There is a bit of an issue with parking when there are tons of games going on - I think it's fine because you can use the Sportsplex parking lot as well - but still, there are only single rows of parking along the front and sides. They have a pretty extensive food court area with lots of items. Most are things you would expect: chicken tenders, fries, pizza, burgers, etc. There were a few other items that I didn't expect. They also serve beer and have a bunch of tvs and tables you can sit at while you eat or between games. There are about 6 volleyball courts and about 3-4 soccer courts. There are basketball courts upstairs and some other things I haven't seen. It's always well-kept and clean when I visit everywhere and the staff, the refs. and others for the games, are professional and on time. I'm excited to finally have played here and hope I'm able to enjoy participating and watching sports here for a long time to come. read more

Today, I picked up my child (from SUMMER DAY CAMP) and he was upset and ended up crying while he explained what happened to him. He vented to me that he got hit in the left eye by one of the coaches, accidentally (his eye has some swelling and it is still pink)... he got kicked in the head, by accident because kids were spinning each other uncontrollably...., and he obtained bruises on his right lower front leg from God knows what. Me and his father were NEVER notified about all this!!! If I was notified, then I would have gone there to pick him up sooner and I would have checked out his injuries to make sure they were not serious! And to add more issues, some of their staff DO NOT ask for the ID of the person picking up the child! What if they were a fake mom or dad trying to add to the human trafficking list!!! I am beyond furious and my child will not be going back there. Please be aware of issues like these and I hope they do not occur with your children if you decide to bring them there. read more

The only reason this wasn't a perfect review was for the bathrooms. It's a hit or miss, which is a shame because bathrooms should be pristine in athletic settings. If gym restrooms can be trustworthy that you won't contract a MRSA (AKA antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections- particularly S. aureus (super side note: this should be italicized for genus species nomenclature)) infection, a place that holds competitive sporting events and coaches children should definitely uphold the same standards. I personally hate using the bathrooms, but I hope they do better with maintenance. On top of that, why would it be a PULL door with only a hand dryer as an option? People do not always wash their hands, so touching the door to get out of the bathroom almost just negates the fact that you washed yours hands. I only come here for volleyball tournaments, and it's freaking fun. The teams you play are all pretty honorable and competitive-friendly. The referees make the right calls, but if you don't read the rules, you'll definitely be saying "Didn't know that..." or "Learning something new every game." The vibe is excellent for recreational-level play. No complaints throughout the entire process. Would love to play rec league volleyball again! (: read more

Do not take your child to the Virginia Beach Field House for any basketball programs offered. -Staff does not care, no returned emails or phone calls from Youth Programs Director or General Manager. -The class is led by a "coach" who is really a high school student that cannot control small kids in a class size of 12-15 at a time. -There's never been a consistent 2-coach team getting to know the players -There is no organization, skill level, what to work on or where they left off. -There are no calisthenics or drills. They just go into shooting the ball. -No dribbling, or teaching kids how to guard their opponent. - I've not witness any ball handling techniques or an actual scrimmage in the 10 weeks. - Coach just let the kids play tag and run around. - The website description of this class does not match what is actually happening "This class is designed to teach the basic elements of basketball, for beginner and intermediate players. Each week will introduce several new, key basketball skills. The players will continue to work on their ball-handling every week, and review their previously learned skills. Class will also incorporate teamwork, sportsmanship, childhood development games and game-like situational drills. Throughout the season, players will put all their newly learned skills into scrimmages." In my opinion and a few other upset parents, it's an overpriced gym class offered by Virginia Beach Field House that's led by high school kids who do not know what they are doing.  I hate saying that but it's the truth, and for the price and name that's comes with the Virginia Beach Field House brand they should be embarrassed peddling this program.   I would give it zero stars if I could. read more

My child went to their summer camp and really didn't enjoy it much. They have a schedule posted and a weekly theme but mostly they had them running around on the field. No crafts were ever done like posted. No problem solving activities like posted. Didn't learn anything about bugs and butterflies during that theme week. Mostly young adults supervising and not engaged with the kids. Everyday during pick up the kids were sitting inside the field area and the adults were sitting on the bleachers. It's dark inside and not kid friendly at all. We will never return read more

So I just recently moved to the area a few months ago and I was looking for a co-ed league to join to play some volleyball. My co worker recommended the field house and I am glad that she did. I had a lot of correspondence with LaQuan Bailey who is the Assistant GM and he helped me with getting set up with a team because I was signing up as a free agent. He also answered a lot of my questions about membership, how the leagues are set up, etc and was very informative. This location is located right next to the Sportplex behind the Landstown Center shopping area. This place is HUGE. From what I can gather, the first floor is divided between 2-3 indoor soccer fields, two basketball courts, and about 6 volleyball courts. There is also an upstairs which I haven't checked out yet but appears to have a running track and some work out equipment from my vantage point. This place also has a small daycare/children's area as well which is cool for parents who want to drop off their kids while they play a few games. I have come for OG and have played two games already and have had good experiences with the refs and my fellow teammates. The refs make good calls and if there are any challenges they look to both teams for a consensus to resolve or replay the point. The courts are clean and the nets appear to be in good condition. I think it's really cool that they have bleachers right next to the courts to that we can have spectators. I think it would be a good addition if they had nets in between each court though to prevent any interruption from other games if a ball was loose. If you're looking to play some recreational, or even competitive volleyball come check this place out! They also have field hockey, kickball and other sports leagues to join as well. read more

This is my first season playing at the Field House so I signed up as a free agent for soccer. The season started alright, however this past week my team ran into an issue. The issue was a late schedule change that moved my team's game from 8:40pm to 7:20pm. I understand the need to change schedules due to conflicts or other emergencies, although this late in the season it still seems a bit unusual. That said, this change was made and absolutely no alert or email was sent out. By dumb luck I just happened to check the schedule while I was also looking up Spring season information and caught the change. I was immediately worried because I knew I hadn't received any notice about the change and suspected neither did my teammates. I didn't panic though, I figured the Field House was a professional organization and we could get this solved or salvaged. I emailed Tyler Niederstadt at 5:10pm with the following: "I noticed a schedule change...our game tonight moved from 8:40pm to 7:20pm and I definitely didn't see an email about it. Are there no alerts that go out and is there any way I can update my team on the change?" I was thrilled to get an email alert only 7 minutes later! However, the response was not what I expected: "It looks like I changed tonight's game on the 8th of February, and I do not send an update to teams if it is more than a week in advance." First of all the actual date of the schedule change is a little bit in question. One of my teammates is very certain he checked the schedule after the 8th and saw no changes. I can't verify that myself so I won't make too much of an issue on that particular point. The more disturbing factor was that the level of care given by the Field House for people's time is exactly zero. It's not that hard to contact a team and/or league regarding a schedule change. I get an email at least once a week about signing up for new seasons, but a schedule change isn't deemed important enough to send even one email. Further, the Field House couldn't be bothered to let me do the leg work and contact my team notifying them of the schedule change either by simply providing me contact info. End result, the rest of my team showed up at our originally schedule game time and wondered what was going on. We all lost our game time this week, two people on the team had paid for a babysitter that wasn't needed, and one even made a wasted trip from Yorktown! The staff on site tried to be as helpful as they could but they were limited with no one available who could rectify the situation or provide a solution. Additionally, we weren't the only team having the same issue that night! read more

The soccer referee's here get paid to sit there and do nothing. Every game I've played this season, the refs have just sat there doing absolutely nothing and only made calls whenever a guy barely puts pressure on a girl who has the ball. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

This place used to be an amazing place for sports. I've played soccer there since they opened up. But since new management has taken over the soccer they have made it harder and harder to play here they do not care about anything but getting your money and that is it. It sucks cause it's one of few places to play year round but if your trying to play high level competitive soccer do NOT go here. They don't care about you or your safety, just your money. read more

Had my son's birthday party here and they totally messed it up. We paid ahead of time and they lost our reservation. Couldn't find us in the system even though the manager called us a few days before to confirm. The day of the party, we got in our room and it was decorated with something totally different than the decors we brought in. We ordered 4 extra pizza ahead of time as well on top of the children's pizza and nuggets and they dint bring them up. The party was almost over until they were brought up, but only after I spoke with the kitchen manager and the other manager in house. Other than those complaints, the children had a blast. read more

Cool little spot next to the VB Sportplex. I was there Saturday morning for the Wheeler Dodgeball charity event and had an absolute blast. I'm not sure how this entire place is all set up but here is what I gathered: - Floors are painted with basketball boundary lines. I didn't see any hoops but I imagine you can throw the rock around in here. - Heavy duty curtains allow you to have multiple games of dodgeball without balls going across the courts (balls going sideways can be an issue though) - There is a turf field for soccer but I saw some kids practicing ground balls - ALCOHOL. They serve alcohol. Parents, send your kids to engage in some sports activities and go ahead and get toasted in the lounge with multiple TVs. Lots going on out there. I was able to play dodgeball and hang out in the lounge to get some work done in between games while watching the Olympics. Cool spot. read more

I just recently signed my 3 year old son up for the Lil Kickers soccer league. The session is 13 weeks for $169 for 1 hour classes. So far its a great value he even got a Jersey. Reviewing as a spectator only! This place is HUGE with pretty much every sport being played simultaneously under one roof. They seem to have very professional equipment, plenty of staff and wait for it....THEY SERVE BEER & FOOD?! I'll know this for next time as I didn't find out until I was leaving. My wife and I have had our son signed up here for multiple things in the last couple years but this year we signed him up for the sports stars academy which consisted of basic techniques for soccer, lacrosse, basketball and baseball. Kind of disappointed because of the rescheduling that happened very often and most of all the class literally had only 2 kids but they were able to include my son in the whole entire class of basketball till January. In a way that kind of makes up for it because my son had gained interested in another sport. Main point it the organization wasn't that great and the lack of back up coaches, led to cancelled classes and rescheduling. read more

The league was fun to play in but most of the referees are horrible and no one is checking or reviewing their performance. The snack bar is terribly mis-managed. over and over i go here for an event and they obviously do not check to see what they have planned and do not have enough employees working. All workers are very nice and respectful, they work hard - the issue is management. Fieldhouse is a great place - if you can not handle the crowd - then allows us to bring our own food in. read more

Haven't been here in several years but came in to watch some basketball this weekend. This used to be a great family place. Now it is over run by what appears to be not the best of what Va Beach has to offer. The staff here are not equipped to deal with the types of folks that are in here threatening others, cursing and wanting to fight. I have never seen such behavior in what are supposed to be grown folks. When people were asked to leave they stayed and continued on with the behavior. This is not a safe place for children or anyone for that matter. I would recommend a police presence in the building. Also when speaking with regulars in the stands this is common behavior here there have been fights, brawls and gun threats as well. The staff are in a bad predicament here. Police really need to be here. read more

My son participated in the Sports Stars Academy last summer. That class is what introduced us to the Field House and he loved it. He was in the Big Dippers class. Lauren, the instructor, was awesome with the kids. They started by running through an obstacle course that was set up, then they'd play games and work on various skills. It was great exercise and built social skills. After the class they got to go play in the fun zone, which he also loved. The fun zone is a great, inexpensive place to bring your kids to play on a rainy or cold day. It's only $3/child, and if they're in the Sports Stars class, they play for free after the class. The Field House offers adult and youth leagues and camps. There is even a Summer Run & Fun camp that can serve as a day care option to keep your kids active over the summer. There is a restaurant, too, but I've never tried it. The Field House is really a neat place and you should find an excuse to check it out sometime. They change schedules for games two days prior to the game and then set the game up for two days after the original date without talking to the teams. Yesterday we had our 4yr old's birthday party. We couldn't have asked for any better! I came in a few weeks before to do paperwork and payment. The front desk was always super nice and helpful. For our party we started with Desiree for the field games. She was so helpful and nice. She kept a group of 4yr olds excited and involved with all of her planned activities. When we were done she got the kids in line and took us to the party room. The party room was perfectly set up and clean. It looked great! Hannah was so awesome too serving all of the kids. She made the pizza and cake time with a bunch of kids look easy! The cake and pizza were SO good too. Those others who helped out/cleaned the room after we're great as well. Lastly we opted for the Fun Zone and it was great! Every kid left saying how fun it was. Most tried to stay longer! The parents all raved about everything as well. Thanks for such an awesome experience for a day special for us. I totally recommend having your birthday party here!! read more

I just spent a day here for a tournament and was overall impressed with the facilities. Tons of parking, tons of bathroom stalls, and everything just seemed clean. The curtains in between courts and mesh nets above the plexiglass was super helpful during the games. It's awesome that they have a dining area with real food (e.g. not just snacks and drinks) and big screen TVs and a child care area where I hear you can drop off your little ones.
