If you just want a fun little boat ride to see the river, this is perfect. It's about 20-30 minutes round trip from the riverwalk plaza near Cheesecake Factory. There's also a stop at esplanade park. You can check the live tracker online to see how far away it is. One captain I had pointed out landmarks and talked about the history of the area, and one was quiet. Either way, it was such a fun little outing, and I'd recommend it to both tourists and locals!

Never boring on the Hollywood Beach broadwalk. "Well, I will…read morehave an alibi"... While riding my bike down at the beach on the Hollywood Broadwalk, I hear lots of interesting sounds. Each restaurant and bar often has its own music playing, kids squeal with glee, sidewalk musicians catterwall about lost loves or cheeseburgers in paradise. The ocean beckons, its waves crashing powerfully or lapping leisurely. Bikinis and Speedos abound in all shapes, colors and sizes. The hunter gatherers of their family triumphantly strut by with a hot pizza box in front of them, as if using it as a divining rod to lead them back to their motel. I am aware. I notice things. The world is crisp in clarity. I get involved. I return wayward balloons. I help with directions. I solve crimes. I observe. But on this particular day, I look straight ahead. My neck is not a swivel. I don't want to know. I can't help. He will have an alibi. I can vouch for that.

It is much easier to take a walk on the boardwalk in the spring than it is in the summer, where the current temperatures will easily climb over 100 degrees, and the humidity is pretty close. The boardwalk is dead until 7:00 pm in the summer, in the spring there's activity around the clock. Despite the signs indicating "no pets on boardwalk", I have seen a fair amount. It would be respectful if their owners wouldn't leave their messes behind them. On the boardwalk you'll notice, the young, the elderly, locals and travelers. Some are walking, some are running and others are biking. There are a handful of stores and some restaurants. I've reviewed several of them through the years. At the end of the boardwalk you'll find a theatre, this is where the live music can be heard from. I love to come here in the evening in the summer, enjoying a cool drink, by the palm trees and the sea, where the refreshing wind is blowing my way. The Hollywood Beach Boardwalk is a great place to hang out, for food, drinks, live music, and the breeze.

We could not hear anything of any importance from our guide as people had different abilities to paddle (totally understandable) and there was no effort to include everyone. The mangroves are pretty and worth seeing. Our tour ended within the hour (should have been 90 min) but we were given the option of having the kayaks longer so we paddled out to West Lake, very pretty. Chill out in the historic district near the River Walk Linear Park and watch the bridge open for big boats. Not much to do for kids except a few scattered parks. The iconic Himmarshee Street is loaded with bars and restaurants at the west side of The River Walk mostly open after 5pm and the Las Olas strip to the east.

While the park has…read moremany things to explore, the kayak, canoe, and paddle board rentals are handled by Park and Ocean. Located a short walk from the first parking lot, Park and Ocean provides some much needed shade and refreshments during the South Florida summer. I had never been here before, so I arrived a little early to check the place out and reserve kayaks for my friends and I. The young lady at the desk was extremely helpful in explaining all the possible options, safety measures, and pricing. She let me know how to get down to the launch area and that there would be lockers for the things we didn't want to get wet, which turned out to be extremely helpful. We went down to the launch and were saddled with great kayaks. The lake is pretty much a straight line, so it's very good for practicing, beginners, and nice scenery. There is a little secret passage which can provide needed shade as well. We planned to have lunch there, but by the time we got done and completely rained on, the restaurant wasn't open yet. So, we used the walkway to access the beach until it was time. The restaurant boasts great local beer on tap and delicious cocktails, as well as elevated bar food and seafood options. I really enjoyed the conch fritters, which were well seasoned and flavorful. Be careful if you don't like spicy food. The young lady who was so helpful in the morning with kayak bookings also told us that the park puts on a reptile exhibition at one, so we were able to take the kids to check out. My wife and I come here to relax rather than party. No shortage of tourists here so it does get busy during the winter months. Aside from the Las Olas brown coarse sand vs the pure white silky sand of the west coast beaches, there is nothing like the Las Olas Beach.
