The hermit crabs that are being sold here are being horribly mistreated. These creatures breathe through gills and therefore require humidity to breathe!!! Also, they need 6-8 inches of substrate to bury themselves so they can molt and grow!! Painted shells are toxic, there is not any actually nutritional food for them to eat (they have multiple food groups like fruits, veggies, calcium, proteins, etc. that they need to eat to stay healthy and survive), barely any water in their dish, plus the water dishes were dirty. They are literally are just climbing on each other and are terrified. They are basically starving and suffocating to death. These beach souvenir shops seriously need to stop selling and mistreating these wild animals for such a small profit. Not only that, but they mislead and miseducate people about how to properly care for hermies, knowing they will die soon after purchasing, when they could live to be 20-40 years old with the proper care. As a hermit crab owner who does extensive research and is part of many hermit crab owner groups, I know these living conditions are uninhabitable for the herms. So shameful. You'd think the owners would do take the time to research the conditions needed to provide a healthy life for the wild creatures they are exploiting! read more

Please do not support this shop, they have the worst animal welfare I have ever seen! The hermit crabs are kept in such poor conditions, that they are literally dying whilst on display. Hermit crabs have complex needs e.g. a sealed, humid tank so that they can breathe (they cannot breathe in this open enclosure and are likely suffocating). At least 6-8 inches of substrate so they can moult, de-stress and feel secure. Two water pools big enough for them to fully submerge in (shell and all) - one salt water and one normal water, both prime. A varied diet including protein and many other components - not pellets! Adequately sized NON painted shells and at least 10 options each to change into. The shells in this shop are painted and toxic to the crabs. These animals are suffering and I urge you not to support this business, the more you buy - the more crabs are taken from the wild and forced to live in this hell hole. read more

Whenever I'm in town this is my beachzone store. Reasonable prices in their staff is always friendly.

I wandered in the store looking for souvenirs for my daughters. I overheard the, what I am assuming to be, the manager belittling his employees. The entire 15 minutes I was in the store he was yelling at employees, talking down to them, telling them to sweep the floors faster, and very rude. It had me questioning if the employees were being forced to work there (maybe authorities could look into that) because if anyone talked to me, my daughters, or even my dogs in that way I would have left the store. So that's what I did and I will never be back. read more

In need of beach outfitting? This is the place. I think Beach Zone Destin is one of the more "serious" of the towel-and-skim board stores in the area. They have a little more self-respect than to constantly keep a banner proclaiming that they're going out of business on the window just so you'll come in for great deals. Inside, you'll find things that you find in all the beach stores. Beach towels. Bodyboards. Key chains with your name and everyone else's name on them. Things made of wicker. But you'll also find tons of rash guards, swim suits, an airbrush artist to make whatever you buy..."memorable"...as well as some of the finer things in beach life that aren't so easy to find. They carry a great selection of footwear, like Rainbow and Sanuk. They have tons of great sports sunglasses, like Costa del Mar, Spy and Kaenon. And for those of you trying to gauge your parents' reaction to nonconformity and rebellion, they also do henna ink tattooing here. I don't know if you'll get a free hermit crab painted up like a stock car for purchasing something here, but I do know that they sell a little better quality product than some of the other places in Destin. Steer clear. I've spent a ton of money in this store. Today I picked out a number of items, went to pay and apparently many of the items were "mis-tagged". The manager claimed "her employees didn't do it". Which left me confused as to who did. The prices looked like they were fully adhered from a pricing gun and not peeled off. And of course. All that I had picked out that was incorrect would have been significantly more. Pretty sure this is a bait and switch scenario. Taking advantage of tourists with items that are priced one way then adjusting upward at the register. read more

Need something for the beach? They've got it. The place is packed full of stuff, it's like a maze. Grabbed ourselves a little of everything. There are complaints that this place is a rip off and over priced. 2 for $18 tees. $15 - $45 swim shorts. Sounds more than reasonable to me. They had some higher priced name brand product in there, when do you not pay a higher price for that? We did have to ask 3 different associates where the boys tees were, the first two associates just said over there, couldn't even be bothered to point never mind actually show us. Luckily the 3rd associate helped us out. read more

The prices are way over the top for swimwear like a Hollister with fewer cute selections. Not impressed there but did like the 3/$10 tee deal. However I had to dig through 4 racks of clearance clothing in order to find 5 potential shirts. Better deals than Alvin's though. The clearance size options were: - Small (good selections) - Medium (horrible sleeveless tanks) - Large (only like 3 or 4 items total) - XL-XXL (4-8 really cute shirts and sweaters/ worth it if you fit) I also found a $3.50 ring carved from a shell which was awesome! This shop has a little bit of everything for the beach goer! I came in looking for a swimsuit and a sun hat and left with that plus a cover up, a beach mat and sunscreen. The swimsuit selection was great with some tops sized for the bustier women with bra sizes going up to DD. They also had the selection of skimpy bikinis in every color and design for the young or young at heart. Boogie boards, flip flops, bikini bottoms, beach towels, goggles, snap backs, footballs, cover ups, shorts and shirts, kitschy souvenirs and country music blaring in the radio.....a lil something for everyone. I can only speak to their chairs and umbrellas. The umbrellas were overpriced. One of them broke and fell apart the first time we set it up. The chairs are okay but also overpriced. The store doesn't accept returns; fair enough, since you deal mostly with tourists. But tourists can just as easily take their business a couple miles down the road to Alvin's Island or Sunsations which is exactly what I recommend. read more

I had a coupon for a free hat with the purchase of costa del sol item. That's exactly what the coupon said. I had to ask 4 employees what the costa items were that were included and what the free hat was to see if it was worth it. None of them had any idea what it was talking about, said they had never seen the coupon before. Finally a lady said it was for the costa sunglasses and you get a free destin visor. Nowhere on that coupon did it say a word about sunglasses or a visor. There were plenty of costa t shirts I would happily have purchased. The costa sunglasses were locked up in a display case so I'm sure they were pretty pricey. Needless to say we walked out. No way was she roping me into buying an overpriced pair of sunglasses to get a $5 visor free. There are plenty of places to shop with the same merchandise, so one would think they would be more customer service inclined. We won't ever go back to beach zone. read more

This place is just as I would expect. They have some pricier, name brand things, but also some reasonably priced generic "Destin" gear. We were able to find some pool/beach toys for the kids and they have a great selection of sun protection wear. They staff was friendly. read more

Bought towels that fell apart in wash. Would not return. Owner told me that all towels need to be washed with the exact same towel. I have never had towels that have done this. Don't purchase towels from this place!!! Owner was very rude. Another customer was behind me listening and told me that she couldn't believe that she wouldn't return them. read more

I would not shop here. We bought a necklace and it broke and the store wouldn't exchange it or return. We had bought it the day before we were trying to exchange it. The exchange and return policy on the register said within 7 days. The manager said it had to be same day to return or exchange bc it was broke. They both stopped their conversation, turned and looked at me, turned back to continue their conversation, then screeched in excitement when their friend entered the store behind me. First off i want to say every employee including the owner is VERY RUDE and nasty to their customers. They had their kids there running around bumping into other customers including us and acting out of hand while the employees were behind the counter just talking not having a care in the world if we were being helped mind you there was a big group of us. When we tried to make eye contact to ask a question the snooty brain dead heffers behind the counter looked at us then turned back to each other and finished their conversation. We all walked out and went to Alvin's Island and told him our bad experience their and who would of imagined the employees said it happens everyday that they get customers who go there and get the same service then go to his store and hears the horrible stories. if i could give this place zero stars, i would. earlier today, my grandmom brought my cousin and i to find a specific style of swimsuit. while we were shopping in that area, she was looking for some costa sunglasses to buy. after not finding the style of swimsuit we came for, my cousin picked up a bikini top and wanted me to guess the price. shortly after she picked it up, an older lady who works there walked up and asked how we are doing. we both responded that we are good and that we are just looking. she quickly told us that this swimsuit set was 200 dollars and grabbed it from my cousin and put it back on the rack. she then directed us to the sales rack where she said we should look. shortly after this happened, we saw my grandmom at the counter trying to pick sunglasses. she asked for help and the lady made eye contact and then walked away. four other women who worked there stood behind the counter and didn't offer help for the sunglasses she wanted to try on. once she was helped, the lady proceeded to tell her that she can't try on the sunglasses. overall the service was terrible with rude staff read more
