Complete insanity. Since at least Winter 2018, they've administrated the specialized health benefits of my otherwise-wonderful insurance company. The Beacon people I talk to on the phone have been great -- they are kind, want to be of help and know how to do their jobs. However, the referrals I've received are mostly non-responsive when I've left a message. There's got to be a reason for this, and after reading the reviews here, it seems to be that Beacon won't pay their contracted providers. So I can't quite blame the providers; no one wants to go unpaid or have to beg for their fees. Of other referrals I received, I learned (usually via the referral's outgoing voice mail message) were (1) retired; (2) on medical leave; (3) not accepting my insurance anymore; (4) not accepting new clients. One provider has a number that's "not accepting calls." It's over two months now, and I STILL haven't found a provider. read more

I spent four years trying to find a therapist who actually accepted this insurance. During that time, I made 25+ calls to the insurance company and contacted over 100 providers from their lists. Not a single one was accepting the insurance. Despite never successfully connecting with a provider, I was later hit with a $300 bill for a psychiatric evaluation. The insurance company said they would investigate and resolve it within 30 business days. It's now been months, and every representative I speak to has no updates or answers. After multiple claim denials, them asking me for minuscule invoice revisions from providers, and over 11 hrs on the phone with customer service, I'm losing my mind. I am currently a mental health provider and am phasing Beacon clients out of my practice. Customer service is less than abysmal. If I have any problems at all, no one can answer my question, I am constantly transferred, only to be told that I am, once again speaking to the wrong person. Unfortunately this has been a difficult decision as my practice was set up to treat those who are least able to afford mental health services. Shame on any state or local agency that contracts with them. We are in the midst of a mental health crisis, violence in our communities is on the rise, and NO ONE TALKS about how hard it is just to get paid so my practice can function. read more

This company needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau and be shut down. Seeking a referral, they looked at their out-of-date provider list, if it can even be called a provider list. My guess is, along with many other YELP reviewers, doctors stopped working with Beacon long ago due to not being paid at all or being paid slowly, yet Beacon continues to list these doctors on their "so called "provider list" to make their list look good. I don't happen to believe Beacon actually HAS a provider list. I've not yet successfully contacted a doctor referred to me by Beacon. Every doctor Beacon has referred to me either: 1) does not exist (at that number, anyway) 2) is retired 3) has never heard of Beacon 4) has never heard of the name of the doctor I'm asking for/calling for 5) was at a phone number that is disconnected/no longer in service For example, just last week, I requested and received 3 referrals of doctors to contact. I attempted to contact each one. One was a 75-year old doctor who retired 10+ years ago! One phone number was disconnected/no longer in service and the 3rd doctor never heard of Beacon and didn't perform the services Beacon said she did. I called back today to ask for *real* referrals, not shadows/ghosts/retired doctors. I was provided with a doctor referral that is a 3-hour drive from where I live. I live in a pretty large city, if you'll notice where I'm from. I'm pretty sure doctors work where I live. This company is a sham. A fraud. A scam. A joke. Don't waste your time. read more

Because zero stars are not an option, I have chosen 1 star. I am a BHO provider. Initially, it felt like a good fit because I wanted to provide behavioral health services to Spanish-speaking and low income populations. Don't do it! If you wish to work with those populations, you are far better off charging $5/session than dealing with this fraudulent company. I have had dozens of claims denied for no reason, then spend hours on the phone trying to talk to someone, getting transferred, waiting on hold, only to be told that I've contacted the wrong department. A family member was referred here for services. After not being contacted for two weeks, we called. They said they've been unable to reach us but now that we've made contact, they will start reaching out to therapists and we should be contacted in 3-5 days. They confirmed the numbers on file and we hung up. Three weeks later, we still haven't received any calls. I called today and was told they don't have any therapists available in the requested language and our referral was sent back to our insurance. I stated we never got calls or messages on any of the three numbers on file. The representative repeated one of the phone numbers on file and said, "I think we left a message on this number." You think? There are two other numbers in the chart and none of them were contacted. What horrible service and if anyone was in dire need of mental health services, this is not the place to get them. read more

They have so much paperwork to get in and see a Doctor took about 4 hours to complete. The staff is rude none caring.

They lie. They should be shut down for abuse. They do not support out of network providers and when I asked for in network options they sent me ten names and NOT A SINGLE ONE CALLED ME BACK. They also said, sorry it's hard to find services in your area: I LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY. So I went on the hunt for out of network coverage. I was told that my provider would be covered before I started services with her five months ago. I was told that they needed her to send them something. I got denied reimbursement. I called. They told me it was their error and checks would be sent shortly. I called ten days later and was told it was processing and there was nothing further I needed to do. I called today and was told my provider had an error in her claim. Really? I asked. Then I was told, actually I don't think we cover your provider. read more

I can't get past customer service technicians who are unable to resolve issues and will not give me contact info for anyone else in their system who can. I have been told my inquiry has been "escalated" six times during my past six phone calls over four weeks. Still no answer or resolution to my inquiry. A large national company that had Beacon Health Options as its employee assistance program (EAP) vendor through 12/31/2018 was recently moved to a new EAP vendor effective 1/1/2019. In a move that was an absolute exception to the rule in these types of situations, Beacon is now refusing to honor any of the EAP counseling sessions in 2019 that it had authorized for its former clients in 2018, leaving many employees in a lurch for these indispensable services, and when at their most vulnerable (i.e. in the middle of treatment with their behavioral health and/or substance abuse EAP provider). When a company's lost a portion of its business, and then reacts by punishing its former clients--especially in this context--is vindictive, gross and disgraceful. It should not go unnoticed, either by representatives of companies currently served by Beacon, nor any company representatives considering a bid by Beacon to provide EAP services to his or her company. read more

They have the most inadequate referral team. I can never trust them to known weather a provider is in network, taking new patients, or is for a type of care I requested. I assume that most of the people who work in this call center hate there job and don't care about medical care. Who ever is managing the updating referral website needs to be fired. read more

THEY ARE THE WORST INSURANCE COMPANY EVER. If you have them run. You're better off paying out of pocket then trying to get authorization's approved by them. It took over 5 months to get mental health therapy for my almost 3 year old autistic son. They denied authorization's that completely contradicted what they told me. They needed a diagnosis sign off by a specific doctor and when I got that to them, they still sent me a denial claim in the mail. When I asked what additional documentation they needed for authorization, they would not give me a clear list of all documents. Instead every time I gave them one document, they would review, and then again request for more the day before the 14 day period was up. It's like I asked them for a full list so I don't have to drag this out and wait 2 weeks for an additional denial because they request more information at the last hour. The authorization was a two part authorization both times they fought back and delayed my son's treatment. I advise you to get yourself a lawyer who practices in this so they don't prolong your process. In the current world we live in with a major mental health crisis, you would think it would be a little easier to get the care you need for your child in a timely manner. If I could give them zero stars I would. There was nothing acceptable about this company or their process. Speaking with the provider apparently this is typical of Beacon and they even stated they are the worst insurance to work with. read more

I wish I could rate this place 0 stars, because 1 star is still too much despite being the lowest rating. Incompetent and lazy are the two best words to describe Beacon Health. I've been trying my hardest since July to get referred to a psychiatrist and we are now in 2021 and I still have yet to find one because of the idiocy of the representatives here. The representatives are clearly very scripted, ask the most unhelpful and open-ended questions that are completely irrelevant to what you need and/or want, straight up and blatantly LIE to your face and tell you misinformation, which only confuses you, and make zero efforts to help you and are clearly NOT at all interested in helping. Every time you ask to speak to a specific department, they will always put you on hold and never fucking come back, or they will disconnect the call and not call back, or they will transfer you to a department you NEVER asked for (most of the time, they transfer you to the crisis hotline because they're treating you like you're crazy or stupid) and act like a clinician is going to help you solve your problems that these fucking idiots cause. Appointment Assistance is another thing. If they're not referring you to sub-par, low-end, bad therapists (I had to file a grievance against a therapist for misdiagnosing me and being extremely judgmental, disrespectful, dismissive, rude, unprofessional, and making extremely inappropriate comments and said grievance is taking ages to process), then they're recommending you to providers who aren't accepting new patients, aren't even active, don't accept your insurance, or simply DO NOT provide any services like Appointment Assistance falsely claims they do. Speaking of grievances, GOOD GOD, good luck when filing them as most of the time, the aforementioned abysmal representatives you reach over the phone, will ALWAYS make mistakes that you have to spend a significant amount of time correcting, ask for way too much documentation and information that you're most likely not going to remember since you don't have a mental file of every fucking incident, number, and name of whomever you interact with, and even after all of that, they can just deny your grievance like they did mine because the piece of shit provider whom I complained about lied acting as if none of what I'm stating ever happened when it did (if it didn't happen, I wouldn't be going through so much trouble with this dumpster fire of a company right now nor would I be writing this review either) and even if you appeal it, they can just uphold their decision because the bottom line is that they don't care about their members. You have to go through so many goddamn hoops just to get anywhere with these idiots, and even then, it's not very far. I swear to god, these are lawsuits just waiting to happen. Remember when I said earlier that they make a lot of mistakes that you then have to take time out of your day getting furious with them about and having to correct them? How do you do that? Guess what, you have to file ANOTHER FUCKING grievance where they will continue to make the same mistakes over and over again and then before you know it, you have several grievances that you have to now micromanage and none of them are ever taken seriously because of how horrid the grievance department, customer service and their representatives, and the entire process is. The Appointment Assistance staff is absolutely horrendous, Jean Perrone, as I've stated earlier, refers you to providers who are inactive, don't take your insurance, aren't acceptive new patients, or refers you to dead-end numbers where said services are not provided, and if you DO manage to get a hold of a provider who will take you, they're absolutely horrible and impossible to work with which then leads you to starting this process of filing grievances and looking for another provider. Jean even has the gall to tell me: "You shouldn't go by reviews on the Internet." after I bring up to her how bad the service is to others as well. Well, considering that EVERY provider I've been able to establish a connection with has been horrid and the other alternative is not reaching ANYONE or NO ONE who will take me period and the fact that NONE of you take the time to observe any of the referrals you give to members to see if they're able to accept anyone or not as well as the quality of said providers, I think the negative reviews of this horrible care management company speaks for itself on how absolutely disgusting Beacon is. How this company has been in business for over 30 years now is way beyond me as they have absolutely NO business in this industry whatsoever. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE FOR YOU!!!!!! 01/25/2021 - They rejected my grievance on the basis on not having any evidence. It is unfortunate that I am not able to give this company zero stars. For nearly a year, I have been forced to deal with their inept service representatives. Claims are not processed in anything resembling a timely manner. I sought reimbursement for $50,000 in treatment claims for partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment for my daughter for a period of nine months before I received payment. They lost claims, neglected to scan them, coded them incorrectly- you name it. Now I am dealing with her private therapy claims (submitted a month ago). Of course, these were never scanned either. It takes a minimum of 3 representatives before you can even talk to someone who knows even a fraction of what is going on. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. They should be permanently out of business. I am reporting them to the better business bureau. read more

Despite living in a city, Beacon Health offers very little access to in-network mental health providers. They claim that their list of providers is up to date, but none of them seem to be taking new patients, and those that are have a 1-2 month wait. Their customer service is horrific too. I asked for help trying to find a provider who is in network and taking new patients and spoke to Jean. Jean was reluctant to find more than one agency for me to call, telling me that it was taking up too much of her time. read more

Beacon employees are prolific liars. I'd finally found a fantastic therapist in Beacon's network. After several visits my provider was kicked out of network for no reason. So far they've said she withdrew herself voluntarily, (lie); then they said she lacked the credentials, (another lie); then they said they would work with her but refused to take any of her calls; then they said they do not know and have no way of knowing. They encouraged me to contact my provider and suggest she give me pro-bono treatment. By arbitrarily kicking my provider out of network they have caused my deductible to go from $3,600 to $7,200. This is a terrible insurance company. I have kaiser and kaiser referred me to beacon as outpatient for psychologist and psychiatrist. Not only there are millions of steps i have to do, also i have to wait between 30-45minutes on the phone every time I have to renew my "membership". For the past few times I called, there were always some issues that required me to call them back after few days because noone got back to me. again I have to wait between 30-45 minutes only for an agent to answer my question wrongly. I've been a "provider" for one of the companies Beacon now serves for about 30 years. Beacon has been on board for maybe 5 of those years. If you want to know why you cannot find a therapist on a Beacon plan who can see you, here is the answer - it is very hard and often impossible to get Beacon to pay "providers." This has become well known. In the case of some plans in NY, where I live, the plans paid much more efficiently before Beacon took over. I am sure other people feel as I do, we want to be available to new clients, but we can't afford to do so. It probably won't change until the large organizations who buy Beacon-administered mental health care policies start walking away. You might want to raise this with your employer or union. read more

I have been seen by a very gifted and experienced Therapist through Beacon for 2 years. I also interviewed a couple others who seemed pretty good. As my benefits are so good, he is totally affordable, but I would actually pay full-price for him if I had to. read more

If Beacon Heath is your mental health provider, you may as well have no coverage. They pay on almost nothing from my experience, and deny appeals with vague explanations. Their definitions of included services are extremely narrow, and their documentation on what is included is very hard to find. Can't find anyone decent in network. Found a psychiatric NP who I liked but of course after 8 months she announces she's no longer accepting Beacon. All the people I called on their list of providers either didn't call back or stated that they actually didn't take Beacon so they weren't sure why they were listed. Out of network reimbursement is a joke, you get like $25 back when you spend $300. The mental health (and physical health!) coverage is the US is a total dumpster fire. Freaking capitalism, what doesn't it pervert? And we wonder why there are so many people hurting themselves or others in this country. Shameful lack of social safety net here!!!!! Beacon Health has been absolutely horrible. Incredibly long wait times every time you try to call them. They finally acknowledged my daughter needed a single case agreement as none of the in network therapists are qualified. Why would any good therapist be in their network when they offer peanuts for their service? They offered the provider less than a third of what he generally gets and now they're saying - he won't negotiate. In reality, they don't stand by their patients and won't step up and pay a decent wage for qualified professionals. It is al about the bottom line - not the health of the patient! read more

This company has been horrible to deal with as a provider of mental healthy services. I have had to deal with them on several erroneously denied claims and it is a nightmare attempting to get their mistakes resolved. It is absolutely ridiculous that you can never speak with a supervisor, nor can you ever get claims paid without speaking with several client service representatives, who are obviously not trained consistently. I must say the client service representatives have always been very courteous and professional, and I do not believe they are to blame for lack of competence by supervisory personnel. As a provider Beacon had been doing an excellent job have an options for there insured members and in promptly paying the claims to myself as a provider. In the last Almost 3 months things have taken a terrible turn. I have not received a check from them I'm a very small provider, probably third of my clients have Beacon as their coverage and I have received no reimbursement. I have called, been told it was a mistake in the system, the bills were being resubmitted and nothing has happened. Today I spent 1 hour on the phone with a representative helping me I was probably on hold 55 minutes of the hour and did not get any answers. I was then told that he had reached the maximum amount of people and claims he could look up for me. They are the ones with the problem and would not even address half of the bills I have not received payment for. There's no excuse for this service. read more
