So hit or miss. I have tried selling to this spot countless of times and they have never taken anything of mine. The inventory here is just not that good. You'll have much better luck at their Greenpoint location which routinely has good inventory and will actually have the space to maybe buy a few of your items. The Greenpoint location is also able to text you when they're done looking through your selection of items, this one doesn't. I've never had any problem with the staff. I like to do a nice search of their merchandise before selling my pieces, as I'm not dying to get a ton of $$ back, but curious to understand where their buying habits originate. The shop is not curated with high-end pieces, so I was shocked to see that they didn't accept quite a few of the ones I had in my bag. There is no rhyme or reason to what they chose, and in all honesty it shows in their racks. The shoe selection is extremely thin, they had an over abundance of tees, and the digging left me with little to understand as to why top designer pieces from my bag ended up coming back with me. The only bonus at this spot is that you can donate, which was the main reason I was there- but won't leave my bags there all day again (which is how long it took for them to go through things). read more

Scam. According to the check, the guys took the items worth more than $90, and offered me $20 with a couple of cents in return. There was an option to spend $45 in their store - which is not acceptable. The staff was blatantly rude, the girls at the "selling" counter openly treated me as a child, at some point even became defensive. Please, stay away from this place at all costs. read more

The manager was very rude towards me while I was asking to get a coat that was put on hold and the people stated they didn't want it and left the store . She refused to let me see the coat and refused to give her name . I'm very upset on how she was towards me and my daughter . Okay I'm not sure why this place has a lot of bad reviews lol and it made me extremely nervous . But I really loved it here . The space is very organized . I loved the selections I got two pieces . When coming in did the girl seem like it would hurt to say hello yes but I don't even bother with people in thrift stores . Especially beacons . Everywhere it has a certain attitude to it so I ignore them and shop . But I got a nice dressy top for 24 bucks and a sweater for 15 bucks . I have lived nearby for a long time and used to really enjoy this location, but something has gone seriously wrong. I'm a collector of designer secondhand and vintage who sells at a lot of places and can tell you that the buyers here either do not know what they're doing or, IDK, have a very unusual taste profile. OK, in the past even when I couldn't sell anything I could find something to buy. Yesterday it was just racks of tired old floral dresses, message Ts and sad sandals. And they weren't cheap. Maybe I am too old now for the Park Slope location but I always do well in hip Bushwick so it's baffling. If Bushwick weren't far I would never even try here. Never again. Waste of time. read more

So this was my first time at this establishment. I was there upon opening so it only took less than 20 minutes for them to rummage through my two bags. I wasn't told what they preferred and a lot of my items still had tags on them. I had brand new bras but it doesn't look like they resell them. It would have been nice to know that in advance. Seems they also don't take graphic tees which were brand new and I caught the staff actually making fun of my inventory, which I found very rude. They only took a few items from me but I can't complain about the price they refunded me. I was surprised most of my clothes were a no go because everything was in great condition, some never being worn. I find Beacon's Closet to be a mixed bag when it comes to thrifting. Loves: + My friend sells here often and is usually successful. + The random knick-knacks (e.g. candles, oven mitts, etc) at the front of the store are very cute. + Walk-in selling appts are allowed. Not so love: - Store is not as well organized as other thrift stores. They are organized by type of clothing but not by size. - I've been here a few times and I usually see older items, like the vintage throwbacks to your mom's closet. There is surely a crowd for this but it does not make the mark for me. Overall, I believe Beacon's can be good and is surely some people's cup of tea. For me personally I would rather hit up Buffalo and see their more modern and organized racks. read more

Yeah, I have to agree with the negative reviews on here. I just brought an an entire spring cleaning closet worth of clothes from my aunt in finance who gave me Burberry, Chanel, French designers, and more. Everything in this bag was from Saks, Neimans, cashmere, beautiful sweaters, etc! They did not take a single piece. I don't feel like driving all over the city so I just donated it, but I got the sneaky suspicion that they are going to pull everything out of that donation bag and sell it. Even the girl helping me put the clothes in the donation pile was taking a second look and said "I don't know who went through this"". I can safely say I won't be trying to sell again here, that's for sure. On my way out, all the clothes they were selling looked half as nice as as the stuff I just dropped off, so something is fishy. And I agree the store looks dirty and feels like a Salvation Army so I hope they go out of business. read more

ive been doing the resale routine in brooklyn for quite awhile and recently moved to this area and when i did my seasonal clean out though id try a new store. worst idea ever. i brought about ten items and was quoted a 45 minute wait time. in total i waited over 2 hours. the girls behind the buy counter were continuously on their phones playing jeopardy with each other and just generally standing around. the inventory on the store floor was awful from fast fashion to extremely damaged items. save yourself hours and go to a different location or a different reseller read more

Lol i never thought to look them up on Yelp for the purpose of reviews (i only checked today to confirm hours), and wowwww these are bad reviews. I live in the neighborhood and only buy clothes second hand (climate change loves a consumer of new goods, friends), so i shop primarily at the vintage spots in north slope regularly, beacons being one of my main haunts. These are my thoughts: - it's not true that it's only grandma vintage, or only paisley polyester. I haul. Every time. Work clothes, hang out clothes, girls night clothes, costume party clothes. Shoes & boots. There are some real vintage disco glam gems that would absolutely fail today's flammable garment safety requirements, but honestly, the entire middle and back sections have a higher proportion of known brands, like madewell, cos, Zara, jcrew, theory, steve Alan, banana republic, adidas, Patagonia, etc. Better designer labels are usually on the front circular rack. Jeans are always a mixed bag (but I've picked up rag & bone, helmut lang, superdry, and vintage Levi's denim). - Prices are higher than they are for equivalent goods in jersey city, Cleveland, Chicago, or Austin, but that's NYC ‍ - things are not sorted by size or color, that's true. The jeans/pants are loosely organized by size, but only very, very loosely. Everything else is really a crapshoot-- so it's one of those things that's best done on a day when you have time to poke around and enjoy doing so. - great for sizes 0-12ish in women's, with some 14s-16s; 24-36 in jeans/pants. Larger than that and the odds of finding things you actually like drop dramatically. - resale is ... best reserved for those who are ready to just let go. Advice: don't go in there if you remember what you paid for a given item. Don't go in there with attachment to the value of your things. Go in there when your body has changed and you have nice clothes you will never ever wear again. Go in there when you're downsizing your apt or moving in w someone and literally cannot fit your clothes in your home anymore. Go in when you can get to Beacon's but not Salvo's during open hours. Go in when you want to get $23 in store credit for clothes and shoes you paid $230 for but want them to handle the donation of whatever they don't take. Go in when you're ready to let go, but maybe want enough credit to buy one cute jacket and maybe a hair clip. If you do go in and don't like the vibe, there's another solid choice across the street and a truly great vintage shop a block north (and that one has a really great mission. They don't give store credit or cash for your things - just a tax donation form- but their mission really is awesome). There are several more shops worth checking out further south as well. But if you do go in and have time to spend hunting through racks, and aren't attached the idea of getting a high return on clothes you're selling, you might just score. I almost always do. read more

I find this place to be utterly ridiculous! And I have a tremendous amount of thrift shop experience... They are extremely full of themselves and obscenely overpriced. For example, a little button that you pin on your lapel was about $25 here where I have gotten multiple similar items for $.25! They are unbelievably choosy about what they take on Consignment. I know many many people that have tried, and their stuff is absolutely beautiful and these people at beacons turn them down but then when I look at what they do have, I just shake my head in disbelief because I really don't know what they think they have... But most of the stuff is basic And average... But again way way way way way overpriced... No one has been mean to me everyone has been respectful, but there are so many better thrift venues out there that I don't think anyone should even bother going through the doors... This place is for people who really don't know about vintage/used clothing and just want a quick purchase, but for the truly knowledgeable... It's just a laugh if it wasn't so sad. My last comment... I have seen things in there besides buttons that I have purchased for perhaps five bucks that is dozens of dollars more there again, I have nothing personal against beacons. Don't recommend selling to Beacon's Closet. I brought in 2 big bags full of clothes all it like new condition some still with tags. They only bought 6 items which is okay, I understand they're looking for certain items or styles. The 6 items they bought, I originally purchased for around $300+. The items were an Aritizia dress I only wore once (originally $110), an Abercrombie top (originally $65 and still with tags), a pleaded skirt from Express (originally 59.90 and still with tags), and English Factory sweater ($80 and only worn once). I don't remember the prices for the 2 items. For these items they estimated a total retail value of $60 and I could choose between $18 and change in cash or $30 in store credit. Really doesn't seem worth all the work it took to lug my stuff to the store and wait in line for them to appraise. I would've been better off posting items on Poshmark. I hope this review is helpful to anyone thinking of selling their items to Beacon's Closet. read more

Being aware of stealing is part of the gig in retail, great, here's a solution; get a detector for your door. Put security clips and tags on your clothes and accessories. The store is spacious and has a huge selection of clothes to go through. A lot of designer pieces. Get there early because there is fierce competition to get the good stuff. Only reason why I gave three stars was because of pricing. This was probably my 6th/7th time selling in Beacon. They've gotten from bad to worse and their idea of customer service is atrocious. Walked in to a pretty packed store yesterday. When is that not the case at this location? I had two items to trade, both brand new with tags. One was a beautiful print dress from Anthropologie and the other from Zara. Very trendy items that are currently in season. I was offered a measly $23. That's bad enough considering tag value for both equalled $215. Sigh I found two very boho skirts and didn't need to try them, it was love at first sight. One red with embroidery and front pockets will be perfect with a pair of Tom's or Converse for concerts and the other a royal blue pleated number from American Apparel. Total cost $21. I was scanning the place for some jewelry when I noticed this one worker was all on top of me asking a million and one questions that were completing unwarranted since there were other folks who actually needed her help. My voucher was gummy displayed so she knew I had sold items. I get it that they get quite a bit of shop lifters. Hence the camera shots displayed all over the store. However, that doesn't excuse them making me feel like that's my intent. I can't stop society from racially profiling me but I sure as shit don't have to patronize businesses that do it. Be prepared to not get your stuff back. Last week Thursday at noon, I came in to drop off items to see if they would be purchased by the buying team. When I returned, I was told that they didn't buy anything, but after 20 minutes they couldn't find my items and start looking at the camera footage. Turns out my items had been given away to a mother and daughter without my consent, by accident. It's now been over a week and I still don't have my items, And I'm really upset because the items did hold value, but they're not in season. Today I called and asked for the owners email, and they gave me the store email. Completely absurd and unprofessional, for an establishment who made a business from folks trusting them with their belongings for this to happen. And to be told that after a week and a half they hadn't had the time to contact the folks the items were given to. Please save yourself the trouble and DO NOT BUY AND SELL HERE. read more

I am in agreement with the majority of negative reviews left by others dropping off clothes. Something feels off about how they sternly reject a whole bag of clothes (mine included new zara with tags! Unworn steve madden boots!) but eagerly push you to donate... I read another review saying to go in with the mindset of getting nothing. So I was prepared but still let down. I ended up donating and having a strong suspicion that they will pull certain items back out to sell, especially after looking through their racks. But what gives me peace of mind is that they do *hopefully* donate to the quality charities on their website. The absolute worst. I'm doing another de-clutter and I took all my less valuable clothing to other places, but I figured I'd try *one* more time to get something for my valuable clothes and shoes. Once again, the entire experience was awful. I just feel abused and violated whenever I submit myself to their buying process. Never, never, never again. Oh, and I figured I'd buy some LPs with my meager credit and it was "sorry, that's the only thing excluded from store credit." So I took the measly (and I mean seriously measly) cash. Pretty disappointed. I had a number of items that were nicer and better condition than what I saw in the store and they barely took any of it and could not say why. They told me when I got there that they were buying for spring which was the majority of the items, so I expected to get a couple items back not almost all of them. After reading all the negative reviews about clothes being rejected I decided against lugging the summer clothes here I want to sell. But as I was going there anyway to look for clothes, I decided to bring two pairs of jeans cut-offs, both in really good condition and clean. I gave them to the lady who filled out a form and told me it would be a half an hour wait. So I looked around the store, but alas, everything was very garish and old-fashioned. Vintage, yes, but I don't want to look like Minnie Pearl. So at the end of the half hour wait I went to the window and was told it would be 20 more minutes! And this was when I was told before there was only one person ahead of me. Well, I don't have all day for, if I'm lucky, a few bucks, and figured at the end of the 20 minute wait they would tell me it would be more waiting, so I left. So thankful I didn't bring all my stuff. Extra star as the ladies were nice at least. And doing their best to keep everyone masked. (Even the moron who took off her mask, entirely, right next to the "Must Wear Your Mask At All Times" sign.) read more

I took two pairs into the fitting room, and didn't notice until I had already tried them on that one pair of black jeans had a white-ish stain in the crotch. Ladies know what I'm talking about. I am convinced that to work at every beacons closet you are required to have terrible customer service & be very rude. every time I come to this location the staff are so rude - especially when selling. I brought in sweaters, shoes & mens suit jackets & button ups. they didn't take anything & when I asked why they said clothes were out of style, fast fashion & in bad condition. very confused because some things hadn't even been worn. as I look around the store I see dingy clothes & stuff from SHEIN. this is like the 5th time I've tried to sell things here with no luck. maybe I'm just not fashionable. I don't really like thrift stores because they smell funny and I don't like hunting for gems. I wish I was cool with an eye for that kind of stuff, but it just isn't fun for me. I generally end up finding something I think may be ok and hating it later. I came here with three large bags of clothes to sell. The woman who took my ID and info was nice enough, but the others seemed disinterested and caddy. They did not accept one item. I am not personally offended, but I won't be trying this again. It was a nightmare to get the clothes together, keep them somewhere out of the way until I could sell them, strap them to a granny cart and lug them to the store over two subways and many stubbed toes and bruised legs, just to have them accept not one thing. I had leather boots and other things I thought were ok, but I guess I am a big, unstylish dud. For selling, they have very specific items in mind and I am not convinced they even look through everything. Unless you live very close, it isn't worth the hassle, just throw the clothes out or donate them to begin with. The staff is not super pleasant and they seem more concerned with inside jokes and closing early than helping. For buying, I saw a couple cute things but I would just rather shop online to be honest. For how picky they are to buy things, their selection isnt amazing. read more
