I would not recommended going to this location. I came to this store hoping to sell clothes. I left while they were going through the items (big mistake) and came back. They claimed that my items were not good enough to buy but noticed some clothes were missing from my bag. So they took some this but decided to not pay me or ask if I wanted to donate. If anyone continues to go this location of Beacons Closet, make sure to keep an eye on the staff and get paid what your owed. I hope no one else gets scammed like me. read more

Nope. I've bought a few rush accessories here and a skirt for a couple engagements. The staff is never pleasant but whatever. This last time I brought in a few items see if they were sellable before I donated them (to a better place where I know people in need will be helped) and the girl who looked at my items had the attitude of being above everyone, included a woman behind the counter helping. Her rudeness emanated before she even opened her mouth. She judged me before looking at my offerings. I never knew appraising people's used crap was the holy grail of jobs. Any how she mumbled a few things and offered to buy a couple items for an few bucks and donate the rest. From others experience with this place, they resell your items for hundreds of percent over what they pay you and whatever you leave behind doesn't always get donated. The employees will get first dibs. I guess they make money so who cares if they're a bunch of jerks. They'll never get a hint of my presence in that store ever again. read more

I've been coming here for at least a decade, back when it was at its original location. I've gotten everything from clothes, jewelry, and gifts. In addition to the seasonal items, they also carry outerwear, business wear, special occasion wear, long and short dresses, leather, men's fashion, just to name a few. Especially love their jewelry items. They've also got home goods, accessories, and a buy back section in the rear. Sometimes the clothes are a little too retro for my taste, but the collection is definitely unique and funky. Occasionally, will come across a high end fashion label. Never again will I come here. I've always donated clothes here. I walked in this time with my large bag, one woman answered and said sure and put the bag out, the other woman stopped her and said "I'm sorry we don't take donations" because it's "way too busy of a Saturday to be taking clothes in our basement" I told her I've always donated here and she said they probably "let you donate but told you not to come back," which is also completely false. I came in to sell some items (which were in great condition!), and I was asked to wait for 45 minutes so they can detect my clothing. I came back to the store and they haven't even begun working on it and asked me to wait an additional 10 minutes. No biggie, the store was busy and I understand having worked in retail previously. After 10 minutes, they basically denied almost everything I brought in to sell. Meanwhile you should see the DUSTY shoes they have. Yikes! On top of it, most of the staff members are extremely rude hipsters who think they're better than everyone else. Beacon's us great. But beware! If you sell here, STAY AND WAIT TO PICK UP YOUR MONEY THE SAME DAY. I've sold here quite a bit, and should have known better. But yesterday dropped a bag full of brand new stuff (tags still attached) by a desirable label. I asked if I could pick up the cash the next day and was told yes - anything not purchased would be donated. No problem. Went back today and was given $9 measly dollars. Of course the person behind the counter couldn't give me any information about what was bought and what was donated. Just told me that because I left everything that wasn't purchased was donated. It seems pretty clear that the people working there yesterday knew that I wasn't coming back the same day so they chose to 1) Not buy my stuff and 2) Help themselves to it after closing. Like I said, it was 90% tags-attached brand-new stuff by a desirable label. The kicker was they refused give me a copy of the receipt because they knew I felt like was ripped off and wanted to complain. Be careful. Virtually nothing plus size, a ridiculous selling experience (was told it would be "an hour" upon coming in and three hours later my things were "next up" - then they bought one bag and asked if I wanted to donate the rest), rude employees. This place SUCKS. I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology in 2013 and have advised en vogue celebrities on what to wear. I currently work in design and must stay on top of all trends. I am also a compulsive cleaner, with Virgo rising, paying GOOD attention to detail, including every thread in ANY garment. I throw away any clothes or bedding that pills or fades. Maybe that's my problem -- my clothes are too clean and in shape for this shabby place? From a customer perspective, I was concerned about a job posted a few years ago for someone to remove bedbugs from Beacon's Closet clothes in Park Slope. The few times I've walked in to shop, I've always been disappointed. I bought one NICE jacket there, but all of its buttons were missing Most of the clothes in Beacon's Closet in Park Slope look ratty and most shoes and jeans look crusty. The good stuff is usually damaged. For a wedding in England, I was hoping to find some stuff here, but ended up finding MUCH better things -- even TWO fashionable hats -- at The Cure in Manhattan near 12th Street. From a sellers perspective, they never take ANYTHING. I have clothes that have been in fashion between 1970 and today. I am practically a hoarder and take VERY good care of my clothes, even successfully sold many on ebay or just gave them away to happy friends. According to Beacon's Closet's Park Slope employees, over 500 of my items are unwearable EVER. This is all determined by employees in under 30 minutes. I suspect they don't go through everything. I reckon they see a few dresses in a bag and make the quick assumption everything in the bag is the same. The first time I went I figured it was an off day. My friends and neighbors who took some of the clothes -- I even saw a neighbor wearing one of my blouses out at Blue Print in Park Slope -- and were SHOCKED nothing was acceptable by Beacon's fashion *experts.* AVOID AT ALL COSTS, unless you had one too many drinks at brunch and want a good laugh. You really need a drink or four in you to deal with the stench of trying on some of the horrendous garments in here. read more

This review is for selling only, as I had such a bad experience, I decided not to look around and purchase anything. I usually sell my items out of town because as I'm sure most sellers have experienced, it's a little more difficult unloading pieces in NYC, so I already came to this location not expecting to sell a ton. I brought a large suitcase and an Ikea bag worth of clothing and shoes. Keep in mind, this is still much less than what is their "maximum", and most likely less than what the average person who sells often would bring. I was told to leave the items and my name, and to come back in twenty minutes to pick everything up. I've never had this happen before. At every other place, you're usually present while they're going over your clothing so you can see what they're taking and for how much, but I thought, ok, maybe they're busy. 20 minutes also doesn't seem like a lot of time for all I had, but I thought maybe they had several workers go through it at once to speed up the process. Sorting through clothing to bring, finding parking in this area, lugging all of these items - it's a process. Unfortunately, this establishment did not give any thought to that. They barely went through my items. They took about 5 things (I have no idea what they were), but while going through my items I noticed many like new designer pieces, many vintage Levi's in excellent condition, new dresses from Free People, etc. that were still perfectly folded and untouched as when I brought them in. It's almost as if they picked out 5 things and decided that was enough. How frustrating to go through the motions of bringing everything here, only for them to not even look through your items! I will never come back here to sell again - which also means, I won't come back here to buy. Don't waste your time and go somewhere else where they at least give you the respect of actually looking at the items you brought in. read more

It's been a long while since I came back here but a friend really wanted to go... ok this time you walk into a girl at the cash point just staring at you.. no greeting just a stare. The assortment is still mostly vintage which is great but I noticed nothing is over a size XL (and good luck finding that). So I asked a very drowsy looking employee "do you guys buy in plus size vintage or designer?" She said straight up said No unless it's "REALLLLY SPECIAL" ... so to my plus size girlies sorry but beacons must be out of touch. Overall customer service is judgmental as hell, assortment is boring (this location only) and they hate body types outside of a sample size. Incredibly rude employee that I had to deal with yesterday. She was dismissive, rolled her eyes at me when I asked for help, talked only to her coworker instead of doing her job. When I went to call today to speak to the manger about my experience she said out loud " it's the crazy lady from yesterday on the phone who got me fired" so many bad reviews about the ATTITUDE of the employees. I had no business coming to sell here after I 1. Witnessed the dinge that is this store with my own eyes earlier this week 2. Read the reviews on yelp. But I was already well on my way with a big bag of shoes, and genuinely just wanted to get rid of this stuff since it's been sitting in my room all year. ANYWAY -- I went to Beacon's closet with 5 pairs of unworn or worn once heels, 3 pairs of pants, 2 dresses, 1 shirt and 1 pair of brand new, with case Tory Burch sunglasses I left with: everything except the glasses and $8 cash to show for it. I don't even thrift but I wouldn't recommend here. The store smells like a 99 cent store. It looks like poverty and then they're choosey on top of it? There's a designer consignment shop 2 blocks away and a black owned one, same distance but on the other side of the street. I didn't bother going to sell to either of them because I'm just gonna donate everything, but just had to let you know don't even bother coming to sell or buy from this garbage bin on the corner. Love that they are strict about mask wearing! Their zero tolerance policy assures me that there is a place people can both work and shop safely. If you have the time to browse, try on, and then go home and write a three or four paragraph review where you take care to alllcaps words you wish to emphasize, then you have time to pause, think of others, and replace your mask to your nose and mouth. People lost their jobs, are being evicted from their homes, can't feed their children. Be grateful for your life, care about your neighbors and the young people who HAVE to go to work with the public, and wear a mask! No excuses! read more

They didn't take a single thing, and most of the items clearly hadn't even been unfolded or properly looked at. Many of the things on their rack were less valuable than what I had brought, and many things were listed for far too much for what they were. I wouldn't recommend selling your items here. read more

I used to think Buffalo Exchange was unreasonable but Beacon's topped the icing of the cake by far as an expensive thrift shop. I haven't been to the Williamsburg location yet but I thought this location would be the same, seeing as I've had Beacon's Closet in my bookmarked list for the looonggest time. The first rack I looked through, I was already disappointed. Nothing special about the tops; most of them were unreasonably charged for used clothes from H&M and typical brands you can find at Macy's and the stores around it. There wasn't a piece of clothing in there that made me fall head over heels. They were all basic pieces and even if you found something more intricate, it was not in a good sense. The boots section was a disappointment as well. They're mostly vintage pieces; I saw a pair of red go-go boots that immediately reminded me of a Charmed episode and that was the only thing I liked. Their accessories section is kind of ridiculous. They charge more than $10 for necklaces that are simple and nothing extraordinary. Lots of cute sunglasses on the side but you can definitely find them for cheaper at Forever 21. read more

I heard alot of hype about this place. So finally today, I was able to stop and check out the merchandise. This is a used/consignment store, so you will have to rummage around a bit to find what you like. Yes there will be grandma sweaters and things you won't ever wear, but if you keep looking, you will def find something to your liking. This place was quite packed today and it was a bit hard to maneuver around all the people. They have a big selection of women's shoes and also a few handbags. I also noticed that in the back you are able to sell your clothes. In the front of the store they sell little trinkets including tights, leg warmers, earrings, bracelets, notebooks, incense, and soaps. All for a reasonable price. Although I didn't want to fight the mob scene today and didn't buy anything, I think I will be back to shop when its less crowded ;-) read more

This place disgusts me. I am relocating to warm weather and wanted to sell my cold weather clothing to this store and what I found was very very disturbing. Enough so that I am writing this review so others can read this. If you are a seller, do yourself a favor and do it yourself via eBay or i-ella.com. Honestly this place sucks big time (and I never use such words, but in this case, this place is the worst of the worst of scum). I'll give you an idea. Example 1: Wanted to sell, barely used BEN SHERMAN 100% Wool Coat. They wanted to buy for $12. Yes, I said it $12. Me: HELL NO. I sold it on eBay for $30 plus shipping. Better deal, even though it's not much more, it's the principal. Example 2: Dropped off 3 pairs of Shoes/High Heels: Stuart Witezmen Grey Pumps, Michael by Michael KORS cream/black heels, and Prada-looking Nine West on a Saturday with an estimate wait time of 3 hours. I didn't bother coming back. Next day, I found out They took 2 pairs except the Stuart Witezmen (which were in far better condition and a premier brand). Unfortunately I dropped it off on a Saturday and never picked up. Next day I made a stink and was surprised they didn't purchase the SW. They said, sorry it wasn't up to par. Listen, I'm a shoe girl - I know what value it holds. I could have sold those on eBay. Anyways, moral of the story - SELLER BEWARE, they might steal your shit if you don't pick up. WARNING: sell your stuff on eBay, it's not worth dealing with them because you drop off and have to wait for hours for them to inspect your stuff. not only that they will give you pennies for it - you might as well donate to a friend! read more

I've been here a few times with a friend who lives in the area and inevitably shops here often. Whenever I go, I buy something. Whether it's a shirt I regret buying after one wear and realize "it isn't me" or a cute satin nighty I forget to wash before wearing (oh, shit! ew.) However, this place isn't a big deal- at least not for me, a person who lives on the UES and really doesn't feel like going out of her way to rummage through used clothes to find "diamond in the rough" pieces. Trust me, I can use the bargain but UGH. This definitely feels like a neighborhood bargain place. The "good" things are probably bought up by the time outside-of-Park Slope residents get there. There are usually people here who seem to do their daily/weekly/monthly/yearly clothing shopping here. Although this is hipster-heaven, the staff is usually quite friendly and approachable- quick to tell you "no, you can't purchase just $9 with your card." Somethings are over-priced here and I usually don't find awesome buys but go test out your luck (if thrift stores are your kind of thing). read more

The staff were very cooperative - there was one woman working the front desk with crazy cool makeup who I struck up a great convo with! Very friendly. Also, I sold a *ton* of stuff on my last trip, which is highly unusual compared to my other past Beacon's trips. If you are size 26-28 they are definitely looking to buy jeans, pants, and shorts. Just make sure everything is in extremely good condition - any loose strings or beading and they won't take it. Also, amazing clothing selection. I was impressed for park slope. read more

The wait to go in the physical stores can be kind of lengthy which is why I prefer the online store. The only thing is you obviously won't have as much selection as you would in-person, but the customer service and fast shipping makes it worth it IMO. read more

I love the items I've ordered online from here. They are unique pieces and I get so many compliments on them. I would suggest, though, that they add specific measurements of the clothing (bust, waist, hips) to the online listings, as it only has the label size (XS-XL) with a note that says "please see fit on size 25'' waist, 34'' bust mannequin". This usually seems to work for me since I have a size 25" waist and 30/32" bust, disregarding that for someone of much different size, this would not be enough to go off of to check if the item would fit correctly. Due to this, one of the crop tops I bought fit very snug and puts a lot of pressure on my chest. There was no way to tell that from the photo because the top sat differently on the mannequin. The top was also such a dark color that you could not tell it was slightly elasticated and stretched once it is on a dressform, but much much smaller and has a thick material which applies more pressure when it is on an actual body. I hope this can be updated soon, because I would definitely purchase more items if measurements were listed, or notes if the item has stretch or snugness to it. read more

My 2 fashionable millennial daughters & I like vintage stores but usually opt for other stores b/c the staff are nasty, the clothes smell like food, and the persistent recurring bedbug rumors. I made the mistake of buying a 12.99 handbag w/cash a week ago. The handle fell apart in hour 3 of (my) using it during rush hour, on the subway. I was lucky not to lose my wallet. I failed to retain the receipt. I brought the bag in at 12 today. 3 employees, one claiming to be the manager, examined it & smiled, saying "Awww." Manager said "I'm sorry. The girl behind the counter in the front was pretty grumpy but the girl working the fitting rooms was nice and sweet. I found some cool items here that were priced comparably to trendier thrift stores like Crossroads Trading Co. (so more expensive than Goodwill). I liked that they sold a lot of cool jewelry and giftable items up front. They sell stuff for both men and women. The store was super crowded and busy on a Sunday night. Their clothes varied in style and were appropriate for different age adults. All the brands they choose are more vintage/unique (so nothing like F21, Zara, H&M, Michael Kors, etc.). I think this place is great for shopping and buying unique gifts. Most of the negative reviews for here are due to people not getting their items purchased. This place is very selective. A pleated black skirt with little paisleys all over it and a long, 80's style pale yellow maxi skirt with little flowers all over it and buttons all down the front. They both look like something Molly Ringwald would wear in 16 Candles or Pretty in Pink. The look is very feminine and vintage. I don't normally have the patience to scrummage through consignment shops to purchase what I like. Personally, I prefer to pick something off a rack in my size but the few times I've been here I've been able to find unique and interesting pieces to blend into my otherwise tailored wardrobe. Beacons closet is by far my favorite place to shop for clothing. You are almost always guaranteed to find some nice vintage threads. It is almost impossible for me to shop anywhere else because I love "Hard to find" vintage clothing. Most of this store is catered to women's clothing, the men's section is pretty small, and it's actually shrinking day by day, but regardless, you can always find some nice seasonal vintage apparel. Their prices are good, but I've noticed lately that their prices are going up slightly, but maybe this is due to the scarcity of rare vintage clothing, or the fact that there is plenty of competition in the neighborhood (Park Slope). Beacons closet were the first among many "Vintage thrift" stores that popped up in Park slope, but now more and more Vintage style thrift store are popping up more and more on every corner. I recommend you stop in and visit Beacons Closet if you are in the Park Slope area , always good finds, it's like going apple picking in the 70's and 80's. read more

**BEWARE** **SHADY PEOPLE "SHOP" HERE** I was pickpocketed at Beacon's Park Slope this past Saturday. It becomes so crowded on weekends and bumping into one another is unavoidable so its quite easy to become a victim of theft if you are not on your guard. I spoke with the employees to see if they could review security footage and nearly nothing was done. They seem familiar with this as a common occurrence and remarked that I was the 2nd person that weekend that this happened to. Beacons is DEFINITELY a target for pick pocketing so be aware. The a$$holes that stole my wallet began racking up charges at Atlantic Terminal (practically next door) not even 20 minutes after I noticed it was missing so cancel ASAP. read more

My friend and I were looking for a red long sequin dress for a Halloween costume. She recommend that we go here because a thrift store would have it. The business hours were posted outside and it read store closes at 9pm. We went in at 8:50pm just to ask a simple question. We said nicely, "Hello, how are you, "do you have a red sequin dress?" We asked a girl and she replied. WE'RE CLOSED! (Rolls her eyes) And I know for sure we don't have a dress like that. Then she says again, WE'RE CLOSED! First off the sign outside say 9PM it's 8:50pm. If you're "CLOSED", why isn't the door locked? When I went inside customers were still in there and all the staff were by the register. I could see if she was near the door about to lock it. Her tone was very loud and I was embarrassed. My friend and I just walked out the store didn't say a thing. She could have said nicely, "we don't have any red sequin dresses and unfortunately we're closed but you can try our other locations." Customer service is key now a days! This is why stores are closing down and online shopping is taking OVER! No one wants to deal with rude employees. Anywho, in general I hate thrift stores most of the staff (not all I met some nice ones)act like they work in Prada or Gucci! Not sure what all of the gripe is about! Staff were friendly enough. Even though they didn't take ANY of my things (2 full bags full!) I was handled with courtesy. They even explained why my items weren't bought (ie: don't purchase certain labels etc.) As an aside, it is really pretty clean for consignment. read more
