The downside is that they don't always take much stuff and it's very subjective. (That said, I've often resubmitted items a week later and had them accepted by someone else.) You also don't get much money, as others have said. The upside is that the prices of the items are reasonable, too. If you (or your kids) like vintage shopping, it's worth dropping stuff off for the credit. Just be aware that they will dump it all at the end of the night -- bags and all -- so you have to pick up your stuff. If you would have dumped it anyways, then they'll keep the credit slip for you upfront. All in all, not a bad experience. read more

OK. The salesgirls are very snotty, but give them a break! I would have a cow if I had to sort through bags full of stinky clothes, too. Fleas! Bed bugs! Mold! Dust! I always bring Purell with me. Anyway, I think that how much they buy really depends on what you're wearing that day. Which sucks. I've sold $150 worth of stuff, and brought in the same amount and sold only $15. So maybe it depends on the salesgirl too? Also, their "vintage" is nasty polyester dresses, and moth-eaten 80s sweaters that smell like the hipsters who wore them and outgrew them. I have found, for less than $30 a pop: - Cheap Mondays, J Brand 910s, and Goldsign denim trousers.. all BRAND NEW! - a pretty Chrissa top - an INHABIT tank top - a Miss Sixty leather jacket - black Camper pumps !!! - a slinky Moschino Cheap&Chic LBD (there were two tiny holes in it tho) - high waisted Escada trousers that taper at the ankle - an H&M circle skirt **(BUT ON MY FIRST DAY OF WEARING IT I FOUND ALL THESE NASTY CHEESY STREAKS IN IT, AND THEY WEREN'T MINE COZ I WAS WEARING THREE PAIRS OF TIGHTS) - a cool Diesel hooded sweatdress (in the men's section!) The new location is much bigger. I don't even remember the old location any more. The men's section is much bigger, but that still won't convince my boyfriend to step foot inside the place. I've been going to the Park Slope location for sometime now and have always been a huge fan. I have found amazing 30's, 40's and 50's dresses as well as fantasticly odd accessories! I go there because the prices are right, the staff is very nice and it is a pleasure to sell there. In this business it is tough to please everyone. Where to begin? In a time where penny pinching is becoming an understatement -it is more like dollar strangling-stores like Beacon's Closet is a shining light at the end of a dark tunnel. The Park Slope location has an affordable and decent selection of dresses (around $10-20) and tops ($8-15). Inventory is a mix of high/low. Some items look great but upon further inspection are a little worn out and need to be repaired. Be sure to check for rips and missing buttons before purchasing. Great place to sell costume jewelry and items from past seasons, but be prepared for the wait which tends to be an hour or so (and even longer on the weekends). Beacon's has a specific taste/demographic and tends to buy quirkier pieces. Decent amount back for fast fashion labels and vintage. read more

The Park Slope Beacon's is really just OK. The manager really runs the show like a military operation and has the biggest stick up her ass. She will not do you any favors so don't bother asking. The employees are hipsters who choose to buy what they would wear and can't seem to think outside of what is Wiliamsburg hip. Save your time if you think you just wanna dip in and out. It's really an annoying trip down what used to be thrift store shopping to high end vintage. read more

The one in Manhattan by the New School is SOO much better. Amazing, unique thrifted and vintage pieces and so many cute shoes and bags. This Beacons's Closet feels more like a Goodwill. DO NOT shop here. The staff are all horribly pretentious, rude, and biased, given how I was treated. I simply wanted to sell some items and the salesperson was sarcastic from the get-go, and then the manager refused to speak with me, instead just gesturing from her 'office'. It was shocking how little respect they displayed for customers. The staff need serious diversity training, or they should be fired and replaced with people who live in 2018. I felt like I was in the 1960s, not 2018 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I walked out without buying or selling a thing. I could not stand the staff's blind discourtesy, rudeness, and entitlement. Great place to sell and buy, and for find things to supplement your wardrobe. I love that they buy and sell vintage items and brands that other resale items don't. I find it a lot less painful to make a mistake on a full price purchase in a retail store because there is an option like this where I can recoup some of the cost or trade for something else. Came in with a bag of shoes. They were all flats. I browsed around the store and came across a cute vintage polka dot shirt and a skirt. Both pieces suited each other perfectly! It came out to around 25 dollars which wasn't bad. Judging from the prices of this place, I understand why people don't make much when they sell, these clothes are sold for cheap. I'm not into buying used goods (unless they're in mint condition) but Beacons closet is the best one I've been to so far - mostly because I love their selection of affordable sunglasses and jewelry. I went to this location while on a trip to the nyc area a few years ago. The time I went was a positive experience and I remember finding some great items. I left with a fred perry top, a tulle dress, and charlotte ronson dress all for under forty bucks. I thought the items I saw were great., and if I had more time to peruse I would have left with more stuff. I don't have any experience selling to this particular company, but after looking through all of the reviews I don't think I would bother trying. I'll still go next time I visit nyc but I'll probably be more aware of the staff after reading reviews on yelp. Again, everyone was nice when I went, but that was back in 2011. read more

Came across a fine and rare blazer by an amazing Scandinavian designer, and snapped it up immediately. Just another great Beacon's Closet find. With so many smart, savvy people shopping and selling via Beacon's it is pretty much inevitable that an item will come through here that is by an awesome designer and, more often than not, at an awesome price. I'd heard so much about Beacon's Closet even before I got to New York that this was a must-visit! The first time I went there, I couldn't find anything, much to my disappointment. So I made myself return once more over the course of my eight-day trip to see if any of the new arrivals caught my eye. I ended up buying what remains one of my favourite items of clothing till this day: a light pink Paul Frank Warhol hoodie for just $10. I may not have left with the armful of clothes I was hoping to, but that piece was totally worth the visit. read more

Beacon's in Park Slope is my favorite thrift shop in New York first because it's in my neighborhood and second because it's the most affordable with the best selection of all the thrift stores I have visited. I really hate over priced thrift shops. The store isn't too overwhelming, it's just big enough and I always find something good when I go. Considering the size of Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg and Greenwich Village, this should really be called Beacon's Junior. On the other hand, if I spend too much time pawing through clothes, stepping around other customers in the tiny aisles, I get cranky. I can't decide if I'm glad this location doesn't sort its clothing by color, like the other two Beacon's locations, but if that's your thing--it's not happening here. There just aren't enough racks to make that feasible. I wish this Beacon's devoted less of its space to new products, so it could expand its offering of secondhand clothing, because the neighborhood is very good at casting off its office-appropriate clothing. read more

Today was BC-Park Slope's first day at its new location at 92 5th Ave. The new corner space is a lot bigger and visiting during the week also helped me have more elbow room as I shopped. But try as I might to like BC, I admit secondhand clothes are not for me (even though I like sifting and digging!). I've been to BC 3x to try and find something I like, but inevitably I get turned off by the musty smell and the feeling that someone else has been in those clothes (hrm, maybe bc someone has). I'm a bargain hunter through and through, but I'd rather find a steal for something new than for something used. If it doesn't bug you though, there are plenty of diamonds to dig for at BC, I'm sure. read more

First time exploring the Park Slope area with my cousin, we decided to hit up cute, boutique-ish, vintage stores along 5th ave. This was our first stop and similar to other consignment stores, everything is pre-owned. You will find occasional brand names but the styles may be a bit awkward or strange. It's not a designer only consignment store so you will find a lot of no name brands too. Overall, a lot of the clothing and shoe items are pretty cheap. I do like perusing through the racks and see what people toss out but never really find anything I would buy. They also sell some cute (new) stationary items like journals, planners, and letter sets. In general, if you like cheap vintage stuff, then you should check this place out. read more

I've waited a while to review this place- this, along with two or three others, were where everyone told me to go as soon as I moved to Brooklyn. My first few visits resulted in empty handedness but once I consigned and realized what great deal they gave me (which seems uncommon?) I decided to start picking the racks apart a little more. Indeed, getting a great instore credit (either that or they give you cash for your clothes on the spot!) made me realize that there are some really great things here. Also, they seem to get new things in by the hour. In fact, if you are consigning, try to go in at a time of the day that you would imagine most people are at work because I once overheard them saying to "we won't get to your clothes for 2 hours so come back then" . The only negative thing is maybe the fact that sometimes the staff can come off as being slightly "snooty" and "snobby" with a general better than thou attitude. But honestly, you're there to shop and this should be easily overlooked. check it out read more

granted i have found some items here (an anna sui dress for example), but i dont see how this is so different from say a salvation army... except their price point is higher. (how is buying a used gap sweater here for $20 really saving you? especially when you can buy new stuff on sale for just about the same?) and, "we take your 'rejected' clothes and donate them to charity" my ass. like other reviewers have said - FREE INVENTORY. at least donate them yourself somewhere for the tax write off (remember, you'll actually need receipts next year). read more

The store is pretty huge but walking there from the subway was not fun and the prices are bit a high for what is there. Workers were not so nice and it was difficult to find anything worth spending on. I would suggest going to your local Buffalo Exchange if you want to shop consignment. I came here for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the size and setup of the store. It's just the right size for a thrift store, and everything's laid out so that you don't feel overwhelmed by the number of racks there. My boyfriend and I are both Asian, and we didn't experience any racism or pretentiousness here. I got a fairly priced black vest that I'm happy with, so I would come here again. read more

***If manager reads this, please find out who I am talking about. She was at buying section around 6pm on 9 Feb. She does not even realize what she is doing, and would do same thing to other sellers/customers. You see some comments on staffs are extremely good, and some are extremely bad here. In my case, some are actually really nice and pleasant, but it is always same staff who annoys me. Management should notice who I am talking about. When there is one extremely rude employee among nice staffs, it naturally ruins the review. I feel sorry for the rest of the nice staffs out there.. I was going to sell my Miu Miu heels on 9 Feb, but forgot my ID. But the girl who was at the buying section at that time nicely told me that she would take my heels with ID, so I came back same evening just to try to sell it again with my ID. I do not live in that neighbourhood.There was an another girl at buying section and told me she would not buy, I told her why I came back, but she did not take my heels. Miscommunication bet workers happens but What made me upset most was her attitude(second girl). Just rude and too blunt for the customer. She did not apologize for their miscommunication( or whatever the problems that caused this), did not even appreciate a customer for coming back. Their business is solely depending on sellers .I was poorly treated by a second girl. She should find another place to work, I went back to there just to feel bad. Really bad experience. I love this place! Its super cute and trendy. I got a few amazing piecies for close to nothing. If your patient and not in a rush you can find really nice brand named items. I found a Zara dress retailed at $80 for only $14.95! All the clothing are in good condition and well organized. The staff is very helpful and seem genuinely nice. It can get a little crowded and you may have to wait a few moments for the waiting room, but its still well worth it for the amazing finds. Only bad thing is that I was on vacation from Miami and I can't come back when I want but they do sell their clothing online as well! read more

Every time I visit a new place I love to go to recycled clothing stores and this one is great! They have an amazing selection of vintage priced reasonably. I found a great pair of vintage shoes from the 80's, a vintage Atari t-shirt, and some other amazing treasures. read more

Ugh, maybe a couple of months ago I WOULD have given this store anywhere from 3-4 stars because i LOVE shopping for a bargain, but the more, I went the more it turned into a LOVE/HATE relationship. Their inventory isn't nearly as stellar as it used to be, the people there (except for a selected 1-2) are SO insanely pretentious, over what? NO idea Great to go to find a quick deal for something specific here and there but DONT waste your time taking things there to sell--they buy nothing, make up terrible excuses and then you see something exactly like what you tried to sell on their shelves a week later. no idea- totally erratic inventory. I have started to frequent other second hand shops in the neighborhood and manhattan instead. read more

consistently full of interesting things and surprises. good turnaround of merchandise, so i think i could probably go there everyday and not get bored. i like that you can bring in your things and they give you the verdict asap so potentially you can bring the clothes you dont want (if they dont suck) you get store credit or cash, and can get newer better things within the hour without having to spend money. that is my kind of shopping i think they are moving. they definitely need more space. and as a bonus, the last time i was there a little boy walked into my dressing room when i was trying on a dress. good times. read more
