Not sure what the negative, or even 3 or 4 star reviews are about. I don't come here often, but always visit when I come into the city and visit Granville Island. I always score impressive pendants, findings, and sterling silver bails/findings at a great price. Great, friendly service too, at amazing prices, especially for Granville Island/Kitsilano. I was looking for blue fire/flame labradorite pendants, and I looked everywhere but couldn't find anything remotely suitable under $100. Upon walking into Beadworks, there was a display of crystal pendants, and they had a few Labradorites for $22! I quickly grabbed one, when a staff showed me a nearby dish on a display with more similar pendants. I found a gorgeous square briolette labradorite pendant for $32! There are tons of gorgeous, handmade pieces in their front window, I asked and was surprised at their reasonable prices. I asked the staff about silver bails, requesting sterling silver, and then showed me a square bin of many, for $4 each. I left with 2 stunning pendants and a couple of bails for $50, half the price of 1 single pendant in nearby shops. Service was helpful and friendly, despite being VERY busy on a sunny Sunday Labour Day weekend. I've since bought a raw ruby pendant, more findings, so this is now my go-to for new pendants and supplies from now. I cannot recommend their selection, prices or service levels, highly enough! read more

Today we decided to visit the market and seen this place randomly! I love the concept of this place because it's a perfect date to have with your partner and we did just that! You could do bracelets, necklaces, charm bracelets, phone straps, I think rings as well. They also have bulk stuff. Walking in, it was honestly overwhelming. There's just so much to choose from. The only reason we have 4 stars we because the service here could've been better. Me and my partner weren't greeted, we were left kind of confused and figured it out on our own. We finally asked for help and she explained it pretty well. Besides the okay service, the activity itself is actually so fun. I love the variety of beads they have and charms. There's gems, regular beads, all that you need. They all have different prices so watch for that. The prices around $16 each in US dollars. So it was actually pretty good for the fun you're having along with the cute bracelet you can make! read more

SO. MUCH. FUN!!! this store has selections for DAYS. every single bead, color, style, material you could think of. this store has it all. you can customize and make your own jewelry from bracelet earrings necklaces to a bookmark even. such a fun experience. my friend and I didn't even plan to come here yet ended up spending over 1.5hrs lol whoops. it was awesome though and everyone working there was super nice even though it was so busy. HIGHLY recommend as a cute date activity or just for fun :") all the prices vary per item. I made a bookmark and it cost around 12$ (even less in USD). I just selected a few larger beads. i'd estimate a bracelet to be more around 20$ (?) pricing was very fair overall though. read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon and man was this place busy! My partner and I had wanted to make bracelets. It was a simple process. You get a tray, pick out your design in beads, and then decide between stretchy cord or clasp and wire. Then you sit down, string it together, and then an associate will help you finish it up. Cost is based on the amount and type of beads you pick. Store was pretty crowded, and I found myself often waiting to get a look at some sections. We were lucky to snag some seats at a table to string our bracelets, but we definitely saw some people have to do it standing up. A fun little thing to do and I was happy with the finished results. read more

I needed to make a couple of simple necklaces to convert a broach. Not only did the women at Beadworks help me find a beautiful cotton cord and a gorgeous chain, they put the necessary hardware on to both, since I hadn't worked with either medium. This place has a fabulous selection of beads, jewelry making paraphernalia and all sorts of wonderful items at reasonable prices. Though unfortunately there are no longer classes due to Covid, you can reserve some one on one time and they'll help you with your project. I highly recommend and will be back! read more

This was one of the RUDEST establishments I have EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE. I walked into the store, and it was very busy. I went up to someone who was working and they said "I cant talk to you right now," and walked away from me. I was completely shocked. I then went up to ask another person a question and said "I am too busy to speak to you," and walked away and cut me off. I went up TO A THIRD employee, after becoming increasingly frustrated and started to ask them a question if I could have some assistance in how the process of the store works, when they walked away from me MID SENTENCE!! I cannot believe how rude they were to me. After seeing how visibly upset I was at their customer service, one of them tried to compliment me on my outfit to make me feel better!?!?! I was so frustrated, this was some of the RUDEST employees ever. read more

Wasn't impressed by the service the first time I came here. It was a busy weekend day and you had to fend for yourself. Beads can be overwhelming if you don't know what you're doing! The last time I came here, I received much more attention, but I'm not sure if it was because it was the end of the day and she needed to close shop. In any case, I don't find the selection to be that great. I don't know if there's such things as "trendy" beads, but I can never seem to find the ones that scream "buy me!" and when you're spending that much money, you want to be passionate about your beads. I can never find cool metal beads or a new button selection- they're always the same old. The entire store is filled with same type of beads, over and over, very pretty and colourful and good for camp crafts, but not that useful for making jewelry that your friends will be jealous of. I do like the store but what it is. The service is hit and miss like some people mentioned in their reviews. While one woman seemed pretty helpful, the other two weren't really. As for the selection, it's good. I would go back to purchase more stuff again. The beads are probably cheaper online as most things are but I like seeing the beads in person. I love jewelry and I'm a crafting sort of person so it's always been in the back of my mind that I should try to make jewelry, however it just seemed like too steep a learning curve to me. Also, most of the "beading people" I've met in my life have been kind of annoying so it's not the kind of thing I was going to learn through a regular social setting. That said, last month I was on Granville Island and popped into Beadworks for some inspiration. It's hard not to be drawn into a store with so many beautiful colours and shiny objects with un-tapped creative potential. Did I mention that I don't know ANYTHING about beading? So, I was looking around wandering aimlessly, found something that looked like a clasp and thought to myself I would buy it and figure out the string thing at home and make something with some random beads I had from various broken necklaces etc. As I was at the register I saw a beautiful knotted chain semi-precious stone necklace in the window and I love that style. I was looking at it when one of the women who works there asked if I found everything I needed and I sheepishly said, "yes I think so." But in my heart what I really wanted was to be able to make something that fancy, and I knew it was WAY outside my skill level. I asked though, "do you have a class or book about how to make something like that?" And she smiled and said cheerily, "it's not too hard, it just takes a bit of practice, I'll show you how right now!" Right there on the spot free of charge I got a whole tutorial on how to make the kind of project that is turning me into one of those annoying bead people. I didn't buy the stuff right then, but I did go back a week later and a whole different girl who was equally helpful gave me yet another (free) lesson, and set me up with all the tools and supplies I needed to get started. So far I have a a 6 inch chain of twisted copper wire and pearls (which I had purchased in New York but never got around to stringing). It's pretty! Really! And I made it myself! I'm 1/3 of the way to having an actual necklace I made myself. Beadworks offers classes too, for all ages, and based on my two experiences getting amazing customer service, and super dooper helpful advice, I bet the classes are fantastic. If you know some annoying bead people, don't let that stop you from exploring beadwork as a craft / hobby. I don't think the personality disorder is a cause of handling beads, but if it turns out it is, I guess I can live with that. read more

I don't know nothin' bout makin' no jewelry. But even still, this place is pretty cool. Lots of pretty baubles to look at. I went in with the boyfriend, who was looking for a metal Chinese dragon to replace one on a chain he has. This proved to be a pretty elusive dragon however, because no-where, including this place seemed to have it. In fact, their selection wasn't what I thought it might have been...and some of the prices were a wee bit steep it seemed to me. But what do I know, I'm not a beadie person. However, it is a cool place to look around and they definitely have some pretty things to purchase! If you're not in the market for a metal Chinese dragon, you might just be set. read more

Beadworks has been in the Netloft in Granville Island for a looooong time. Like since-I- was-a-shoplifting-teeenager long time (let the record show I never shoplifted here!) It was my pleasure to return there this week for a video shoot. If you like jewelry and have some creative juices, this place is a bargain! The staff can basically help you create anything you've seen but can't afford. Just want to be creative but don't know where to start? They can guide you through the process til you achieve bling! They have great chain selection. Beads are very expensive compared to other places ($30-50 per strand). However I found what I was looking for with embellishments and bead spacers. They are very friendly and readily available to help you with anything! Love that they have a reward system where you receive 10 off every $100 you spend. Yes, I can't believe I'm in a bead store, haven't been in years since my niece has grown up but I digress. I popped in because of a necklace in display, with turqoiuse stones plus the other 2 other types I couldn't remember.... pricey at $200, with matching earrings so probably reasonable considering the manager made it LOL. The course was only $25 & I ended buying supplies so I could work on my beads at home, the pieces looked very expensive but my bracelet only cost $6.00. This store is nice for a new beader. They have a little bit of everything... As someone who used to work for a bead store in another province many years ago, this store's selection is so so. I've had trouble finding basic products that I've found elsewhere. In addition, the beads are a bit on the cheap side and the semiprecious stone selection is small. It would also be nice to buy in larger quantities. With that being said, this store fills a need--just not my needs. Beading can be very expensive and this store is appropriate for those who wish to spend less money/buy smaller quantities. This is great because many a beader in stores everywhere has gone to check out and nearly fainted from the cost of such a small basket of items. Not bad for a small store and handy to pick up a last minute item, but it does not fit my overall beading needs. read more

I have been shopping at Beadworks, off and on, forever. They used to be very friendly and helpful, and I always enjoyed shopping and crafting there with friends and/or my daughter. Things have changed...their customer service has taken a turn for the worse, and the staff always make me feel unwelcome, bothersome, and like I'm trying to take advantage of them. My daughter and I visited recently, and they refused to show us how to finish off a very simple necklace...just a long leather cord that needed something on each end to weight if and stop it from fraying. The staff member and manager stood at the counter and discussed (loudly) that it isn't fair for people to expect their service for free...that people should take a class or pay a la carte if they want something done. We hadn't asked them to do it for us...I had just mentioned that I got something similar there a while back but wasn't sure if I remembered how to do it, and my daughter and I were discussing whether or not we should give it a try or do something else with the ends. They stood and watched us struggle with our jewellery before they finally came over and offered (in a rude, condescending way) to show us how to wrap one bead and attach it to the end for $5. They were reticent about showing us more beads or discussing other (easier) finishing options that we could probably handle on our own. We were made to feel extremely uncomfortable and it was a horrible experience. We had thought it would be fun to make a necklace and it ended up being anything but. I thought maybe it was just a bad day, and went back this week to pick up another piece of leather cord...the first piece snapped after several wearings...and was treated with the same cold service. The sales girl was unhelpful and acted like I had to ask the right questions if I wanted the right information. Plus, there are signs all over listing their "labour" prices now...i.e. $1.95 to tie a knot, etc. Just a gross way to treat your customers and to make them feel. I've spent a lot of money here over the years, but I won't be back again. read more

We were so disappointed by the service here last Saturday, went in with my mom to look at rose quartz beads, when asked for help from the gentleman from behind the desk to show us the difference between all the different strands he didn't even leave from behind his counter, continued looking at his computer and replied: they're all over the place, you have to look. Anyways, we helped ourselves and finally found a bracelet to purchase, when we went to purchase the item we asked for a pouch, he got the pouch, charged us for the bracelet and handed us the EMPTY pouch. We asked where the bracelet was that we paid for and he said we already had put it in our purse! Which we we hadn't! We had to open our purses and prove to him that we hadn't actually taken the bracelet, then he looked over the girl next to us in line and accused her of stealing the bracelet, of course she was offended too! He finally looked behind the counter and found it on his own chair! Unbelievable! If we hadn't already paid for the item we would of walked right out, unhelpful, mistrusting, and treats customers like they're all thieves! Will never step foot in there ever again, much better places our there with better prices! read more

If you are ever feeling creative and want to make your own jewelry, then Beadworks in Granville Island is the place to check out!! Be prepared to spend at least an hour in there because they have all these different beads, tools, parts for you to check out. They also have the more expensive beads/parts in display cases by the cashiers such as sterling silver parts and Swarovski crystals. Their prices is not the cheapest for sure; a detailed bigger glass bead can cost 20$ for one, but you can always mix and match and come up with your own creative one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. The staff there are very helpful and knows exactly what you are talking about if you ask them about certain parts etc. They also have paid classes at reasonable cost that you can attend such as wrap bracelets, wiring, beading etc. If you are interested, make sure to ask them for a copy of their course calender and register! read more
